Found this place through Pub Pass and decided to ride the streetcar to check it out. It's pretty easy to access and is Union Hill/Midtown. There are also a few other bars and restaurants close by and I often forget about that area as being a destination so, I'll have to go out there more often. It has a nice laid back feel. The inside of the restaurant is clean and the bar area is spacious, it wasn't crowded so I had plenty of space to sit solo for a late lunch. The menu isn't the most inventive, just good old fashioned bar food. However, to me that really hits the spot a lot of the time, I don't need all the frills all the time. They had a good selection of appetizers as well as sandwiches, burgers, pizzas and daily specials. I was craving a BLT. Usually the Peanut is my go-to but I must say Tower Tavern may now take top spot. Especially for the price...$10?! Yes please. Also, I am a sucker for homemade potato chips so I loved to see that as the side option. The bacon was crispy not flabby and sad, it had the perfect salty bite. The shredded cheese made me so happy because it was generously piled on the texture is just nostalgic to me. The tomato was overpowering, sometimes a soggy thick slice of tomato can ruin a BLT for me. I will definitely be back to Tower Tavern to use my Pub Pass and to try some more food. If you're looking for a very solid bar with very solid bar food I would say give it a try! The prices are right, the beer was flowing, and the food was tasty and executed right. read more

Amazing food and fantastic service! But if you aren't a regular, they have assigned seating and you are not welcome at the bar until you've been going there for 15 years. The patrons don't allow newcomers at the bar until you have 15 years of visitation. I find myself at Tower Tavern for breakfast/brunch and dinner a couple times a month. The weekend brunch menu is small but I've had everything on the menu and it's all good. Then for dinner/lunch during the week - between the sandwiches, wings, and pizza - they do it just as good as anyone in KC if not better. There's almost always an open table where you can depend on quick service. My friends have an ongoing argument about who has the best wings in town. We stopped in here on a Friday evening. We were easily able to procure a table for a group of 6. The server was very attentive and came to get our drink orders. There are a few vegetarian items on the menu (spinach artichoke dip, baked pretzels, salads, pizzas and Stromboli). I opted for the veggie Stromboli with a side salad. The Stromboli itself was good, but what I didn't realize is that the side salad contains pepperoni. I definitely accidentally ingested a piece of it before I realized this. I'm not a fan of the flavor and I'm definitely not a meat eater, so I was kinda irked. I mean, who puts pepperoni in a side salad? That's a first for me. After reviewing the menu later, it became apparent to me that said side salad is a small version of their "mixed greens" which does contain pepperoni. Other than the random pepperoni incident, I would recommend Tower Tavern. I've also had their breakfast pizza (which has a veggie option). It's a no nonsense kind of place with a laid back atmosphere. Just be cognizant that if you're kosher or a non-meat eater, you should probably check your salads for any bits of meat (or make sure you ask them not to put it in)! read more

Last weekend the server at Caddy Shack told us the Tower Tavern had the city's best wings. She said the difference was the wings were charred. So we took her recommendation and headed to the Tower Tavern for a first visit. Tower Tavern is a classic sports bar located in Martini Corner in the Union Hill neighborhood. We arrived early on Friday to find plenty of open seating where the locals hang out. We started with two House Baked Pretzels. We loved the house made beer cheese for dipplng. For entrees we ordered the Greek Strombolis, which is pizza dough stuffed with Mozzarella & Feta cheese, marinated chicken, spinach, Kalamata olive, red onion and marinated tomatoes. It was my first time trying it and I'm a fan! And of course we had to try the charred wings. The charring seems to overwhelm the taste of the classic wings. Maybe it's something that grows on you. We were somewhat disappointed, given the recommendation we had received. Probably the best part of the evening was the delightful server who welcomed us and guided us thru the menu. "How about helping my friend here?" When you here that, you know that service is going to be questionable. Luckily my bar mate, on his second or third drink whom I just met, had looked out for me and sort of scolded the bartender her poor service. It took about 5 minutes before the bartender even recognized me. The bar was three quarters full (10 or 13 people), and there was one bartender there and not only was she responsible for everyone's drinks, but also cleaning the glasses and making drinks for everyone else in the bar. I suppose there was a bar-back somewhere, but I didn't see them until I was getting close to leaving. I'm not sure how the rest of the establishment was being served, but service was not only slow, it was uninterested and to be honest, a bit frazzled. To be honest, that was not the problem of the bartender, how can a place whose main business is to serve drinks have only one person working the bar? I ordered a BLT sandwich and it had the same problem as the Peanut I went to a couple of months earlier. It was a sandwich that I could make at home for a couple of dollars. Two pieces of supermarket quality wheat toast, supermarket quality bacon, supermarket quality tomatoes and lettuce. What was worse was that of the kettle style chips I ordered, about half of them were crisp and proper and the other half was soggy, as if they came in contact with water or maybe they were just old and stored in a humid place. I don't have much more to say about this place. When your main experience is wanting to leave, it was not going to be a good experience. BTW: my sandwich and Miller High Life (the best part of my meal) cost me $20 with tax and sympathy tip. read more

I've only been for drinks and apps, but I really liked Tower Tavern. With TVs on every wall, I think it would be a great spot to watch games. They had a very strong selection of local and regional beers on tap. The pretzels were very good. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. read more

My first impression is that the service here is terrible. My friend and I asked the waitress for cups of water on 2 separate occasions and she rolled her eyes and huffed at both of us. I understand having a bad day but we didn't do it. She acted her way out of a good tip. Someone else brought our food and we had to go to the bar to get our checks. I didn't try the food but my friends had the wings, they enjoyed them and there was plenty to go around. I don't think I'll be returning. I can't stand bad customer service. read more

Stopped in here on a Wednesday with a few friends, really wanted to sit outside under the covered patio to enjoy being outside but there was someone blowing cigarette smoke everywhere. Ended up getting a table inside next to a window. Our sever came over quickly to take our order but we didn't even have menus, or a chance to scan the qr code. The server was kind of soft spoken and we couldn't really hear her through her mask. She wasn't really friendly but took our orders and the came out correct. We received plates for the chicken tenders we ordered and they were all dirty, all 3 of them. I wanted to say something but my friends said it was fine and we would just eat off the plates the food came on. The food was hot and really fresh. The fries were seasoned well and the chicken tenders were OK but with the variety of sauces they were much better. I give a 3 cause food was pretty good but other then they nothing spectacular just your average place but the dirty plates were definitely a put off for me. read more

Stopped in with a buddy to have a beer as we were doing a midday pub crawl. Had no idea this location has been open since 2004. Located just down the street from channel 19 local local PBS station I became jealous that this was not located in my hometown of Lee Summit. The management team has done it right here with good bar food great selection and fantastic bar staff. They really not that far from my downtown Kansas City office. And it's a perfect location for all the folks living in the new apartments on Troost and the general vicinity. If you work at children's Mercy and I haven't tried this place for lunch missing out. Neat location in Martini Corner. But for me, that's really the only redeeming thing about Tower Tavern that I have seen so far. First off, our waitress wasn't the most kind. Seemed irritated. That doesn't upset me, but my overall experience just wasn't the most positive. I know this might sound stupid, but I really thought that Martini Corner would live up to it's name...and have martinis offered at the bars. I asked the waitress about this and she could not have been more confused. Which really confused me...because she works in MARTINI CORNER? I ordered a mediocre cosmo because I felt like I should achieve the goal I wanted to achieve which was to get a martini but it was kind of a waste of time. I once worked very close to Tower Tavern, but honestly didn't realize it was there. This saddens me because the Happy Hour here is one I could have enjoyed on my teacher salary for the years I was there. Anyway, I have now discovered the goodness of said Happy Hour and can not wait to go back. The atmosphere is divey and welcoming. If you are looking for a local sports bar to chill or watch a game, Tower Tavern is a solid option. There is a full bar here with a wide selection of beers, and the food is pretty decent. The happy hour deals are amazing, because unlike other bars where happy hour is only an hour or two long, happy hour from Monday through Friday is 3 P.M.-7 P.M. while Sunday is all day. You can walk out after having a good time and end up spending relatively little in comparison to other bars. The food menu consists of starters, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and strombolis. All of the starters and pizzas except the shrimp options are discounted during happy hour, and the portion sizes are pretty generous and made to be shared. The sliders are a starter but can serve as an entree. The pizza comes out to only $11 with the discount. What I like about the pizza is that it is not super greasy and that the kitchen does not skimp on the toppings. Try the bacon cheeseburger pizza. The load of toppings combined with the ketchup and secret sauce make it delicious. The prices cannot be beat here, and this is a great neighborhood spot to chill and hang out. However, expect to spend a bit of time here. The staff is super friendly and will take good care of you, but the service can be a bit slow. Like I said, this is the spot to chill and hang out. I've only been here for happy hour and they serve up a good happy hour. $1 off of drafts, $3 wells, $11 pizzas and $3 off of appetizers. There, now you don't have to read any more, but since you're here, the apps and pizzas are good and the venue offers a decent beer list. They also have a wall and bar full of flatscreen tvs so you can watch your team without any issues. Service can spotty. There have been times where it's taken a bit for somebody to take my order and for the food to come out. I understand, things happen, but I do think they could tighten it up a little bit. read more

This was our second time visiting this week. We are from Wisconsin visiting my brother who is a regular. We had Hayley or Haley as our server (sorry if I spelled your name wrong!) She was excellent both times. It was fun relaxing and watching the Olympics while catching up. I highly recommend the BBQ Chicken pizza! It is amazing! This is a nice space, open & airy with lots of TVs. Service was just fine for me!! The food... Maybe I was just ordering the wrong things. The bean dip app was just 'ok' there were two scoops, a red bean dip and a green edamame dip. I've been on an edamame kick lately but that green dip wasn't good. The red was better but overall the dish wasn't impressive. Boring as hell. Then bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer. For me, again not very good because the bacon was jiggly. I like my bacon crunchy. It has a better flavor and texture when crisp, in my humble opinion. Lastly, the chili. We'll problem #1 it was cold!!! Chili should be served steamy! I think that ruined my ability to explain it any further. Chili should be hot, stewing all day, releasing spice and flavor. If it's not hot - I am rendered speechless. Still thought the bar was cool. Surely there have got to be some great things on the menu if I had enough stomachs to try everything! It's nice that it's not your typical bar food and is an upgrade. Wow............terrible experience at this establishment. We were super excited to try this place since we just moved in a block away. The staff here was incredibly judgmental, the racist staff cut ONE person (the only Non white) in our group off after walking in the door. Our friend originally was entertained on his order of MacAllan 12, when he switched to another option he was immediately cut off. I live near the Martini Corner area and didn't realize Tower Tavern existed until recently. Glad I found it. Food: As for the menu, I will say that there are (2) specific menu items that are very good and highly recommended: Pizza and Hot Wings. Pizza: The pizzas are 10-12" in size and intended for 1 or 2 people. They are very good - especially from a sports bar. Wings: The hot wings are some of the best in KC MO - Right up there with the Peanut in my expert opinion. The wings are cooked, then dipped into their house sauce, and then optionally can be cooked and dipped again ("charred"). The Tower Tavern's wing sauce is excellent. It the perfect combination of spicy, sweet and smokey. I always request a side of the sauce for fries and pizza crust dipping. Drinks: I prefer tequila-based drinks and have enjoyed their options thus far. They make a pretty good 'Juarez Mule'. Mood: Typically Im not a big fan of sports bars (Not a fan of baseball, basketball or football), but Tower Tavern will show NHL hockey games - which is a huge factor for me. Such a good feeling to see a St Louis Blues game on when I walk into Tower Tavern. I hate asking to turn on a game as most KC sports fans have not evolved to appreciate a true sport such as professional ice hockey - but that's ANOTHER conversation altogether. Design: While I define the Tower Tavern as a 'sports bar' - it isnt covered in gaudy sports memoribellia. Not tacky at all. The decor is fairly basic and low-key aesthetically. A single level with cement floors. Old-school tin ceiling with large ceiling fans. Rather dark inside with a large bar area and large, open rooms with mostly high-top tables. Patio seating out back - most likely for smoking (unfortunately). A tad 'urban rustic' perhaps (Is that a thing?). Not a dive-bar, but certainly not fancy or pretentious. The bottom line: If you are near downtown/Crown Center/Midtown/Westport - check out The Tower Tavern - especially if you are in the mood for wings and pizza. Our favorites are the wing with their homemade blud cheese dressing that is reslly good. We also lime the tower tavern pizza. It never disappoints. It can get prety crowded on the weekends especially if there is a game on. This is a great place to bring a group of friends to watch the game and the food won't disappoint.
