They're known for: Wings. Self-serve beer taps. Lots and lots and lots of screens for sportsball. What else would you need to know? Take the KC Streetcar if urban parking is not your thing. The nearest streetcar stop is the Crossroads, so it's only a couple of blocks to walk, eezy peezy. Service is friendly and timely, you can cheer for the locals or whatever else might be on a screen at that time, and enjoy one of dozens of self-service taps. Get a beer card from the bar or your server, grab a glass from the rack to the left of the taps, put your card on the reader, pull the tap, and ZAM! Bob's your uncle. Pull for just a pint or sample up & down the line and just know you're paying by the ounce. What's not to like? Taps on Main has a strong wing game and they're serious about keeping it that way. There are almost a dozen sauces or rubs that you can get, and order your wings by 10 or 20. I'm one for sweet heat, so the Korean Gochujang is my target. Wings are sauced nicely, not smothered, and a basket of 10 wings is gracious plenty for a 'serving'. Pick a dipper if you need one, or add a buck for more than one, but the wings are very well executed and arguably should be talked about more in KC wing convos. Great wings, great beer selection, and great location. Winning all the way around. read more

We went here with a few friends to try out the Beer Wall and grab some food. While I have had flights of beer in other places, I truly appreciated the ability to try as much (or little) of each beer/cider on the wall. I am pretty picky when it comes to beer (being more of a wine or bourbon drinker), and I still had many options to choose from. I also ordered the Korean Gochujang wings with tots. The wings were great - very flavorful. And I would order them again. The tots were just tots. I wasn't in the mood for fully-loaded tots. My vegetarian friend ordered the Black Bean Burger, and she said it was a burger coming back for. And that's high praise from her. We will go back next year - for the beer wall and the relaxed ambience. read more

Our second stop on our KC beer tour. This is a great place that has a full bar, serves food, and has a self-pour beer wall. You get a card and pay based on how much beer you pour in your glass. This is a great way you can try samples of many beers. The wall had a great variety of choices. We enjoyed a lot of their beers. They had a great pumpkin beer on tap. The milk stout was also tasty. Great service! read more

The wings were thick, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The ranch was amazing. The pretzel sticks were so soft and fresh and the queso was yummy. The bar was not busy and we got to sit right by the outdoor seating but not be in the rain. Loved the wings and will come back again read more

This is a fun concept and a good place to watch a game however, when it comes to food the prices don't quite justify the quality. I come here because it is convenient, always has been for me and now even more so because of the streetcar and because of the self serve beer wall. If that intimidates you don't fret because there is a full bar and some taps behind the bar the bartenders can serve you from. Sometimes I choose to do this because the beer wall can get pricey quickly but, it's a novel and fun concept that works for downtown. The food though I feel is overpriced, like why am I paying $15 for tots that are barely topped with toppings and really aren't even a sizable portion? Last time I was here to watch the Chiefs game I ordered the Rueben Tots expecting a fun pile of classic Rueben sandwich components on top of hot crispy greasy tots instead what I received was a small mound of stringy corned beef and a slice of melted Swiss cheese and a dismal drizzle of thousand island. I had to ask for more sauce on the side because it just wasn't enough for the amount of tots. If these would have been between $10-$12 maybe I would have let it slide and this review would have been different but for $15 I just wasn't too happy. Also, another note the menu online has absolutely no descriptions whatsoever so, if you're trying to place a pickup order good luck knowing what you're actually ordering. This could be an easy fix. The service is okay but sometimes it feels like you have to chase down the wait staff or just walk up to the bar to get another drink or ask for a menu. I'm sure happy hour is fine here but I haven't been for years so, I'm not sure if the prices have gone up for that too. Will I be back? Well yes but, I'll definitely order something different from the menu then the last time around. Maybe 4 sliders for $15 is a better way to go? Because I've also gotten the Rueben sandwich here before for $15 and I felt like it was sparse and the meat was lacking. I do believe they have a pretty good burger deal on Monday unless that has changed. read more

Love the whole vibe of this place! Right in the heart of downtown it has a cool sports bar feel. Don't let that deter you away from the food because it's not your average sports bar fare! It's all delicious. They have an amazing selection of local and non local brews obviously! The service is top notch they make sure you are taken care of and they explain how all the taps work. It's a great place to catch a game and get some food and drinks! read more

What a great concept and amazing service. We came in as a large, dynamic group for our work conference ice breaker. The gentleman who served us kept track of each of our order and was able to close us out later without any issues. The HH menu is great! The food tastes great! And, if you want to try a lot of different beers, their self-pour concept is just what you are looking for. read more

Ordered this for pick up because i didn't feel like dining in. The Mac & Cheese is delicious, I just did not prefer the pickles that came on top of it. Was also a huge fan of the sweet potato fries, even though they were sweeter than most and they came with some type of chipotle ranch that paired so well with it! Ordering online was simple and easy and when I picked up my order the staff was nice and easy going. read more

Stopped in for a beer before heading to dinner down the street. We did not eat here. Ambiance is sports bar. There is a unique set up with many taps ready for customer pouring and glasses of all types for use. We sat at a high top and got a couple of beers. I had not seen this type of set up before. Service was a bit off. I asked about lagers and ordered a Boulevard lager. I was brought a wheat beer with fruit. I explained that I did not order this and was told that I did. I never drink wheat beer and do not like it and a piece of fruit in my beer is not for me. Anyway after some discussion I was brought what I ordered. The beer was good. There are hundreds of places like this. The tap set up was unique. Service could use some work. Mark. read more

I came here for lunch on a Thursday. Super quiet, and a few other customers around. I was amazed at their beers on tap! It was so cool to see a self serve machine. Secondly, their food was pretty good for bar food. It's your usual wings, Philly cheesesteak and cheese curds. But it's definitely a friendly place. And our server Hailey was amazing. Would definitely come back! read more

We stopped in during a weekend afternoon. There are a lot of TVs and I would love to come back for a Chiefs game. We shared an order of friend pickles and really enjoyed them. Came in for beverage. Waitress forces the "pour yourself" card on me. I tell her I'd rather her pour. Hard sell on do it yourself. I get my card. Haven't done it. First try 0. Second try $8.75 most of which misses my glass. I go back and say that I'm being charged $8.75 for foam. She says, "Operator error". No remedy, no apology. I say you're charging me more than a full beer price for less than half. She says the "system " is, not her. Had she made it right, probably would have made it up in tip. If humans can't reason, just go all AI. I come in town four times a year and never have been so rudely blown off. Guess what I can scratch off now? Went to Taps on Main for a work lunch, got the BLEAT sandwich which was bacon, lettuce, egg, avocado, tomato . Large sandwich lots of bacon which is never a bad thing. Does not come with a side, so with a side it is over $20 which I thought was a little steep. read more

This was a great sports bar near our hotel that offers self-pour taps but also a full bar with a variety of drafts behind the bar as well. We came to watch the ND game and they accommodated us even though there were some local teams playing as well. The self pour taps had a large variety of styles- something for everyone. Had quite a few hazy IPAs on tap which is my preference. Food wise: we only ordered an appetizer because we were full from a large brunch, but the cheese curds were phenomenal. Cooked perfectly with light breading. The cheese was melty and pulled apart easily. They were better than cheese curds I had in Green Bay. The breading had a peppery test to it which offered a little kick. I would definitely come back here to watch some sports and try other menu items. We saw a lot coming out that looked appetizing. Our server (Seth) was attentive and super friendly. Gave us a lot of suggestions of where to go in the area read more

Went here after work for some snacks and drinks. As the warmer weather sets in, it's a perfect time to checked this place out. Love the beer/cider selections here. You just ask the bartender for the tap card and you filled out your glass of choice and enjoy. Prices are fair too. Oh can't forget the food, had the housemade tenders, fried pickles, nachos, and soft pretzels. Everything was good, but I love the tenders here. They're huge and tasty. read more

Nice place to sample beers at your leisure. Get a card pick a glass and go to town. You can do a flight for yourself or pour whole glass. They have a great selection super easy to self serve. They also have a full bar if you'd like something other than beer. They have a traditional bar food menu. My friends and I ordered the cheese curds, towanda wings, tater tots, chicken tenders, classic sliders and a classic burger. Food was good, I did not try the wings as I wasn't too sure about the sauce being spicy or not. I do. ot handle spice well. But the rest of the food was good. They have music playing and we were there on a Friday night and live music started after we had been there in the late evening. This was our 3rd time coming to Taps on Main and we were really looking forward to eating here again. However, the menu has changed and they removed our favorite items. When you order, make sure you read the fine print - use your flashlight. We ordered the Philly sandwiches and the waitress asked if we wanted all the veggies and we said yes. We didn't realize the veggies were a $2 up charge. The menu noted the veggies, but the print blended into the menu background & they dimmed the lights in the place when we sat down. We also ordered the sweet potato fries at $4.00 but were charged $5.00, so make sure to check your tickets. The last thing we were charged for was a small cup of ranch dressing to dip the fries in, no up charge was mentioned. Lastly, the beer selection has gone downhill. We were here in January and it had a lot of craft beers. Now it was mainly domestic/common beers like Budweiser. If I come to a place like this, I'm expecting a lot of craft beers to try. I really wanted to enjoy this place again, but all the changes and up charges will ensure we never return. I've sent quite a few people to eat here on their visits to KC, but I will no longer do so. read more

I admit, I was intrigued with this place due to the self serve beer station. I had first experienced this back in San Diego years ago. However, I'm not sure how they offer it, or if they ever were offering the station as no one used it once while I was there on a packed Saturday night, so I ordered two domestics from the bar. This place is definitely raucous, like many sports themed bars in KC. It doesn't really offer a vibe I can't get at one of a dozen spots in KC, but it did have a good atmosphere. The reason I gave this place two stars is because the service is substandard and the food was not good and overpriced. First the bartenders was much more interested in what was happening on his phone than serving customer, to the point another server had to serve me. Once he realized he wasn't doing his job, he started caring more. Secondly, the food was mediocre and way overpriced. I ordered a Cubano and it was overly dry and was definitely not scratch made. The ham felt like it came from a supermarket and the pulled pork was very dry. It was also tiny, the equivalent to a 6 inch sub. The sides don't come with the meal and I got about 12 tots for $3. They were okay, but nothing special. Price wise, they are similar to my neighborhood bar, Barley's, but they are a made from scratch bar and their food is leagues better in quality and taste. For a Cubano, side and two beers and tip, it came to a total $38. I suggest coming here to watch the game with friends and maybe share an app or two, but as a meal, it was definitely lacking. read more

What a great place to hang with friends! I love the multiple taste/drink options where you get charged per ounce of whatever you choose to drink. Makes it fun to try many different beer or cider options. There is a wall of multiple options to choose from and you can grab a glass, place your "beer card" the waitress provides to you and pour your own brew. Our group went for lunch ahead of activities at PL district. It is nice having this option downtown! Most of us ordered the Nashville chicken sandwiches and I had the sliders. They were delicious! We also had a loaded tater tots appetizer that was pretty good. We will definitely be back to enjoy the beers and food on a game day! read more

Fun place! I like how you can sample different beers. The food was surprisingly good. I wasn't expecting much from a bar atmosphere. We ordered the sweet potato fries and the Cobb salad. The salad actually had a beautiful presentation. The fries were crispy and delicious. Great place to watch any sporting event. Service was okay but it was a busy night so it might be better when they aren't slammed. Will definitely be back. read more

Not bad but I guess that I had higher expectations...very cool concept though as you purchase a card and pour your own beers from a large variety of taps adjacent to the bar area...wasn't impressed with the IPA selection which I found disappointing...didn't try the food so cannot comment on that...the service was fine, waitress brings you the card and you place it next to the tap you choose, you then pour your own beer, a few ounces to a pint depending on whether you're a big fan of it or not...the prices per ounce vary depending on the selection and a running tab, that you can see, is kept every time you do a new pour..if they had more or better IPA's it would have been a 4 so maybe I'm being a bit too harsh in that regard so I'll say more of a 3.5 kind of place...location is great, right down the street from the trolley car stop so it's a short walk from the bar...kid friendly as well...RECOMMEND read more

When we arrived we saw a sign to seat our sleeves but then were asked to not sit at the table we were going to sit at and rather to wait for another table to get up and sit there (the restaurant was about half full, but we did have a party of 7 and not many table options). Chicken strips did not come with fries and is a separate up charge :/ this is how many fries it came with (+2 that I ate prior to picture). Waiter only came to table ~2 times and very far apart so we just sat waiting. Overall wouldn't come back for food and would just come back if friends really wanted to go here to watch a game and just get drinks. (Patio is bomb though so my opinion will likely change once it's nice enough to sit outside and have a drink) read more

Stopped at Taps On Main, walking from the Netherlands March, around 12:15 today (June 25th). They were about half full at the time, and I went out onto the deck and grabbed a table for 2. There was a foursome there, who had been waiting a bit, as one guy looked at me and said, "good luck". Sat there for a good 10 minutes before a waitress came out and asked me what I wanted....."COORS Light can". She walked over to the other table and said she'd be back. Mind you, the establishment wasn't full at this time, by any means. After about another 15 minutes the foursome got up and left, clearly agitated. In that time, she had come back out and waited on another table, so I saw their point. After waiting on them, she looked at me and said, "COORS Light, right?". I shook my head yes and off she went. Rack up another 5 minutes and she came back with a glass of beer. I said, "I ordered a COORS Light can" and she walked off. Came back, waited on some other folks and walked over to me....."we don't have COORS Light cans"....uh, OK....Bud Light...."we don't have Bud Light either". OK, then what do you have ? "Modelo, Ultra ?". Fine, a Modelo. 5 minutes later (I kid you not) she came back with a Modelo. In the time of 35+ minutes I got a single beer and shit service. I drank about half of it and held up my card to pay. she brought over her hand held scanner and said, "there's a 20% gratuity as well". I said, "after all that?". she said it's standard for the World Cup. I was well aware that some establishments were doing that, so I wasn't blindsided . It was just a beer. That said, in the case of Taps On Main, it was a pure money grab to prey on foreigners, as the buzz was they don't tip. After my experience, the 20% was a slap in the face to a local. I have been to Taps multiple times and never had a stellar experience, so you'd think I would learn my lesson. Well, this time I did. Taps is permanently out for myself, family and anyone else who cares to listen. Had they been swamped at the time would have been a different story. But the 20% attitude and terrible service sold me on not going back. Will it hurt Taps On Main ? Nope. Will I feel better walking right past to go to UpDown or North to The Quaff or Blueline ? Absolutely. See ya' Taps. I'd say "do better", but it would probably fall on deaf ears. read more

Chicken wings - left to be desired. It was $15 for 11 wings and 50 cents for my extra side of ranch. So prices are not too far off, but the secret sauce that is 10 plus years in the making didn't taste much like anything beyond basic Buffalo sauce. Wings are average size & served with celery. I visited Taps on Main with a group while visiting the area. It's a cool place with a whole wall of taps that you can pour yourself using a card linked to your credit card. You pay by the ounce for the beers you pour, which is fun for tasting a little bit of a few different beers! There are glasses to the side which you can pick up when going to the tap wall and pour as much as you'd like. It was a fun place to visit with a group. There are a few TVs if you're looking for a place to watch sports. They have a full bar too if beer isn't your thing. There's a food menu, and it seemed like mostly bar/American food. There were a few taps that were out/weren't working when I visited which was a bit disappointing. Overall I liked the options available, though most of the options were IPAs and it would have been nice to have a few more options available for other tastes. read more

This was a tough one to rate. I give the atmosphere and concept 5 stars. However I'd give the food 4 stars. First things first: I came here for dinner at 8 pm. It is not a place for the family. Pretty noisy. Most folks are drinking, not eating. The beer is pour your own. You trade a credit card for a beer card. Place the card on the tap and you get charged by the ounce. Lots of choices! Now, the food. I had the BLEAT (bacon, lettuce, egg, avocado and tomato). It was pretty darn good. There was a lot of bacon on it and it was cooked well. The bread was good too. Only disappointing thing was the egg. I wanted it over easy. It was not runny at all. The biggest detractor is the fries. Way overcooked. Without ketchup or some dipping sauce they'd be pretty tough to eat. Overall it's a fun place. Lots of groups of people of all ages enjoying themselves here. read more

We had a great time during a short stop in at Taps on Main. We had just arrived to our hotel after a drive from St. Louis and were HUNGRY (and thirsty). Fortunately, we were quickly able to locate this place and it looked like a fun place to stop in for a bite and a beer. It was pretty crowded upon our arrival but fortunately we were able to snag the literal last table available along the back wall next to the bar. They have a MILLION beers available, divided into "from the bar" and "self serve". It was never explained how the self serve part works as I see it was for some other people so I made things easier and ordered something from the bar tap. They also have many tempting options including vegetarian alternatives like fried pickles, zucchini chips, fried brussels sprouts. We were just there for a quick snack so we went with the spicy battered cauliflower which was AMAZING. It had a crispy breading and the flavor was incredible. It definitely was spicy but the paired dipping sauce cooled the fire off in my mouth. There were a thousand TVs so you can catch your game while you eat and drink. We decided to leave to get my GF some BBQ while we were in KC but I wish we had an opportunity to try more of their food. read more

It's not a place I would go out of my way to go back to, but it wasn't so bad that I'd refuse to go back. I ordered the Nashville Hot (chicken) sandwich and a side of Brussels sprouts. I DON'T recommend the sandwich. I felt that the chicken's breading left a lot to be desired. It wasn't flavorful like the chicken I've had in Nashville, TN. It also tasted a bit burnt. I think my biggest gripe was that it wasn't spicy at all, and it was rather oily. On the menu, it mentions that it comes with Nashville hot sauce on it, but I didn't see it or taste it on my sandwich. The Brussels sprouts were okay, but they were supposed to have bacon in them. I didn't see any bacon! Did they forget to add it? Service was good, but overall, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
