Parking is normally a convenient matter in the parking garage next door by Char Bar. On this January evening though, it was bitterly cold and the walk over was not short, so our group nearly froze in the process. OffKey itself is a fun karaoke bar with private rooms for groups. Our group had a great time going through various songs in the catalogue and enjoying a few drinks. We didn't spend much time at the actual bar out in the main area, but it looked snazzy and our waitress was on the ball with drinks to our private room. My minor quibbles are that several of the songs...the lyrics weren't actually right? And it didn't seem like the mics worked particularly well. But it was good enough for friends just having drinks blasting out well known tunes together. Overall it was a good time. Just dress appropriately for the walk over, make sure you've got your ID (they card), and try not to sing too far...off key. read more

Love having private parties here! Came here last weekend for my birthday and we had the VIP room, which is the biggest room, and we had a great time! The service can be slow with coming back for more orders. The normal rooms say they can fit up to 20 but even with 15 they're very crammed because the benches are small. It could be updated/renovated but it's still a great time! read more

We had a decent-sized groups in one of the rooms. We had a really good time, so although I'm going to make some suggestions here that might seem like it was lacking, overall I would say it was a lot of fun and I wouldn't hesitate to go back. The room was reasonably comfortable, though maybe could have used one or two more TVs to reduce neck strain for all the seating. The person taking orders for our room was friendly but slow to bring orders or circle back for new orders. We appreciated having some cups and water left for us to fill the gap between drinks. The sound system or the platform they use at times was difficult to hear the music prompts to follow along. The music seemed a bit too stripped down to pick up at times especially when several people were singing along. The system would add it's own song suggestions, which I can understand the reasoning for that, but it ended up kind of overwhelming our list of preferred songs and we ended up having to frequently skip several songs in a row that had been added "for us". The "disco lights" in the room added a fun touch but there were a couple that were like red laser lights that ended up being a bit too much as they'd zap you in the eyes while trying to watch the screen. I did leave with a stiff neck and a bit of a headache from the lights, but it had already been a long day at the office so that likely added to it. read more

You know, it's always a good time when it's a karaoke bar especially with the right crowd. Staff are good here with the service. They can surely take care a large group of people who been drinking a lot. I love how they have the oldies, new stuff and even some vpop and kpop songs here. Anything and everything for anyone. The ultra VIP room is my favorite, a big roomy room with a stage inside. This is a 21 and up crowd. This is my favorite karaoke spot in KC. I love the energy here. I feel like I belong here even if I don't really have the desire to sing. The folks that frequent here are always friendly and energetic. The drinks are great. They always have a special going on. I like that it's attached to the club Throwback. The staff is cool. The private rooms are nice & they have always come back frequently to check on us but not so much that it's annoying. I dig it. Tip: Check their website for songs because I think it's updated more frequently than the books. I find songs on there that are more current. read more

So many different people with different music preferences make the atmosphere constantly engaging. The service was decent. Though one of the DJs wasn't great and was very difficult to work with, but on the whole, very happy with it. The drinks were good, a little strong, but that wasn't the point. The best karaoke lounge in Kansas City! I've been here a few times, and I will start by saying that the drinks are STRONG. I haven't had them in quite some time, but my friends definitely go from 0 to 100 after just a couple, so it's safe to say they're still just as strong. Prices have also been extremely reasonable. I really like the chill vibe in the main area. Unlike many other lounges, OffKey attracts both good and bad singers, and everyone gets supported no matter what. If you love singing but are a little insecure, this is the place for you. The private rooms, however, are definitely my favorite. As the main area can get busy, the private rooms allow you to get all your songs in. The best part is that they also have songs from other languages. As a bilingual, it was really fun having an even greater variety to choose from. It is a bit like a dive bar, so don't expect it to be all that clean. However, if you can overlook it, you'll have a blast. I absolutely love coming here and will be back! read more

I've been here many times and we love the private rooms and the input system and always have a good time. Their reservation system is archaic. I filled out the form on the website, then got an email back telling me to call their number to reserve, then I call three different times on 3 different dates when they claim to be open, to get sent to a voicemail that isn't even set up to say that it's OffKey that you're calling- it's somebody's cell phone. And they don't return the calls. So I guess we will do karaoke somewhere else! read more

OffKey is always a fun time. Great place to go with friends for a night out. If you go earlier enough you wont have any trouble getting your song on the list and performing. The later in the night the longer the wait. I do wish they would get better mics . My suggestion would be to rent one of the private rooms for a couple hours to get the best experience. But, if you get a lot of people in there, there's not a lot of room. We had a big group. We managed, but it was tight. The song selections were fantastic. Anything you could want to sing, basically. If I could give no stars, I would. DO NOT OPEN A TAB HERE and read other reviews. Went for a friend's bday party in a private room. Waitress over charged my card after I left by several hundred dollars of drinks I did not order and almost $150 in tips to herself. The manager would not respond when I showed proof the charge was wrong. When asked about multiple additional charges for "tips", the manager stopped responding to my emails. I had to call the cc company and open a dispute. Rather than lie to the cc co, I spent 3 months explaining that I wanted to pay for the drinks I absolutely purchased and, finally, my cc co refunded the almost $300 I was overcharged. In hindsight, if I were a liar, it would have been easier to say the full charge was fraudulent and get the full refund. read more

So couple things: 1) you charge cover for volunteer singers 2) you hire professional singers to come in and dominate the majority of the open slots 3) you expect people to pay the same west port prices for something they can get at literally any bar. Service is fine. Karaoke is fine. Drinks are fine. The people that run this place are the worst. The dress code is OVERTLY racist, and I have seen on multiple occasions - bouncers pat down and search people of color while white people roll right on by. I asked the bouncer why he was doing that last time I was there and he said he pats down all men. I asked all my white, male friends there that night if they were patted down and it was a resounding "Nope, why?" There's clearly a certain kind of person that Off Key doesn't want in their establishment. Until all people are welcome regardless of outward appearances, I won't be going back. I have also emailed Off Key more than once asking further questions about their dress code and policies with no response. read more

I've been slacking a bit on doing cool things for my partner for his birthday, so this year I decided to book a suite at Offkey and secretly invite all of his friends to have one big karaoke rager. I am happy to say that it went off without a hitch! It's easy to book. You can go online and look at rates and such, but I highly recommend calling during the day, they open at about 3 or so. They are very knowledgeable and efficient. I booked a room for 20 in about 2 minutes. On the night of the surprise party, our server swiftly checked us in and even let us into our room early to set up! He was even awesome enough to help with the surprise, he played the roll perfectly! I booked the room for 3 hours and also bought a bottle of vodka. It comes on a tray with an ice bowl and several mixers and fruit. After everything was said and done, it ran about $350 for the room and liquor. Definitely prepare yourself for that when booking for a large group. I will note that this was at the weekend rate, the rooms are cheaper during the week. Everyone who came was so impressed by the service and atmosphere, as well as the selection of songs available and how easy the system was to use. All in all it was a fabulous night and, to quote Golden Girls, "It was a humdinger, Rose, we closed the place!" read more

For my sister's 21st birthday celebration, we decided on a whim to take her here, making this my second (private room) visit to OffKey. I called a couple of hours ahead of time (on a Friday) to see if they had a room available, and to my surprise, they did. The lady on the phone was nice, and the call was kept short. Once we arrived, we were shown quickly to our room without having to pay the cover charge. There was plenty of space for our group of 10 (could probably add at least 2 more comfortably). We sang at the top of our lungs, enjoying every minute of it. One of the mics needed to be replaced about halfway in, but our server took care of it quickly. Wish I can remember her name. She did an awesome job staying on top of our drink orders. After 2 hours, we hit their dance floor for a little bit. Overall, the night was a hit, and birthday girl had a memorable time. (On a side note, I truly hope OffKey treats every patron with the same care and respect that I have received during my visits.) read more

Really great location. It's in Westport so you can pop in to sing a song and then head down the road. Their song selection program is really neat, it allows you to choose songs from your phone, so no karaoke book needed! There are private rooms for parties so that you don't have to embarrass yourself in front of strangers if you sing "off key". I would recommend if you are tired of the club scene and p&l. Unfortunately, I may never go back again. I'd had many great experiences here in the past, and honestly our night in our private room was a blast. But someone working there ruined my ability to trust them. I used my credit card to reserve a private room per their policy. I didn't bring said card with me that night because my husband was putting his card down for the tab. Night went well. Whatever. Fast forward to me getting my credit card statement. Well over a hundred dollars had been charged to my card! The one that had never been on the premises. It took me several days to get someone on the phone to talk to me about it. Poor kid was so nice, but he said too much. Some server (not even OUR sever) that night had charged someone else's tab on my card. This was not a case of grabbing the wrong card or switching them by mistake. This was some arrogant piece of crap going into our reservation file, pulling my card info, and using it to pay someone else's bill. Straight up fraud. I'm now a week past being assured that it would be handled swiftly but the charge is still there and NO ONE bothered to call and let me know when I can expect to get my money back!! I don't know if they think everyone who can reserve a room is loaded and won't notice a charge over a hundred dollars or what, but whoever did that to me should be fired! Some of us save up for a night out and we don't need our good time ruined by some piece of crap server without a moral compass!! I just can't give them my card anymore. I can no longer trust that I won't be used. It's pathetic. read more

We had a blast! My sister reserved their private suite for 2 hours. There were 7 of us and we were comfortable. Now, although the private doesn't come with much such as napkins (insert blank stare) I enjoyed be able to sing my little heart out without feeling embarrassed in front of a crowd lol. The waitress was great. We had a little issue with our mics when we first arrived but, it was sorted out fairly quick. Overall, great way to get out and have some wholesome fun. I will definitely be back! Ask about their drink specials and line up the songs in your queue using their website. Went here with a group of friends at 11:30 because it said online that they were open until 3am. We got there, had to pay the cover, and 20 minutes later they announced last call and were closed by 12:20. On top of this, it took 15 minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge us to get a drink when there were only a few people in the entire place. When we finally got our drinks they turned on the lights and told us we had to leave. The bouncers and staff were extremely rude and unfriendly. Save your money and go somewhere else. There's plenty of other bars in the area with friendlier staff that won't make you wait for a drink or rush you out the door. read more

A great place to spend a Friday night or celebrate NYE w/ friends! My friends and I booked a suite to ring in the new year! While the price was a bit steeper than usual ($60 per hour instead of $20 per hour), we got enough people to lower the price we had to pay per person. Walking in, I did not know what to expect, but the room was pleasantly spacious. Couches lined the walls with a big table that had water pitchers and cups. The waitress took our order and brought our drinks very quickly. She also checked on us periodically, refilled our drinks consistently, and brought NYE hats and party favors. The karaoke itself was the best part of the night! The system had a fairly large selection of songs with the exception of very new songs. It was also fairly easy to control as well. Each person could add songs from their phone onto the queue and change the order the songs were in as well. Offkey is a fun place to let loose and let your inner star shine! I had so much fun here! First of all, I'm old. I can't speak to the bar and "club" situation going on in the main areas. I walked right on past it because I'm just too old for that. But a group of friends of mine rented out a room for a few hours on a Saturday night and it was a blast. My favorite parts of the experience-- *Pretty extensive song list *Being able to type messages from the website and make text appear on the screen. It was fun to tease and joke and try to make people mess up. *Drinks and getting checked in on to make the experience nice for us My least favorite parts-- *The room was really warm *The screen was a little glitchy *The version of "livin' on a prayer" was all messed up . . . I would give this place 0 stars if I could. First off, my friend PAID for a private room for a few hours in this place and our server Jordan was amazing. She was super attentive to everyone and very willing to help everyone. However, every single other worker we ran into was horribly rude. We saw workers in the hallway who yelled at us, told us we couldn't have the right number of microphones we ordered, and were just rude in general to everyone. It was pouring rain and storming outside and the guy at the door did not allow us to stay inside. We had to stand outside for at least 10 minutes in lightning and rain because he wouldn't allow us to stay inside. Our server was awesome, the room was good, but the staff was absolutely horrible and I would not go back or ever recommend to anyone. read more

Really, $3 cover for a karaoke? It has a good screen distribution for those singing and the wireless microphones are a nice touch. The sound is not clean so you can not hear very well what people are singing, I would consider it as been worst then the average karaoke place. Drinks are in the acceptable range for Westport area, 3~5 wells and 8 for cocktails. Botton line: it has everything to be a great place but it is missing something. My friends and I had SO much fun here. We were in town for a conference and are huge karaoke fans/goers, so obviously we needed to check this place out. We came on a Thursday night at around 10:30 and there was a $5 cover. We originally scoffed at that and looked around for other places, but eventually just gave up and ended back there--$5 isn't too bad if we were going to stay there all night. I'm so glad we decided to stay. I can imagine that it would get kind of crazy on weekend nights (especially seeing the other reviews), so I was pretty glad we went with a Thursday. It seems like the perfect time to go. There was a good number of people, but not nearly enough to make it feel too crowded. One of the cool things about this place is there isn't a stage. If you're normally someone who gets kind of nervous about standing up in front of a crowd and singing, you don't have to do that here! You get a mic, but you can sing from wherever you want--the bar, a table, walking around...anywhere. Just make sure you watch the screen with who's up next or really listen to hear your name being called so you can go up to get your mic. Another great thing is how supportive the crowd is! Everyone is so excited for every song, and people will sing along with you. It made it so much more fun. A potential issue, though, is they will skip over you if they don't like your song, think your song is too long, think you're the worst, etc. We noticed this happening. However, if you have good taste in songs that are short-ish (like us!), I don't think you have anything to worry about. If you have a while to wait for your song, there's another space right next to the karaoke location for dancing! The floor's a little sticky, but sometimes that's just how it is.
