Got here just as they opened on a Saturday. The service was friendly and efficient as always. The food here is always good. I ordered my usual Chicago Dog plus an Italian Beef sandwich. The food and service here rate high, but the booths could use an update. In each booth I have sat in, the seat cushions are so worn and broke down that one is sitting on the wood frame. I have been to the Pizza Man three times now. I've only successfully eaten there once. The first time, I arrived around 5:45p, not realizing that they were only open 11a-6p most days. After some discussion with the cashier and someone in the back, it was decided it was too late for us to order. The second time, I got there right at noon for lunch. I had the Italian beef sandwich. It was incredible, and definitely reminded me of the ones I've had in Chicago. They have bagged chips and cans of soda to go along with the sandwiches. There were a lot of regulars coming in, and the place was decorated with Chicago memorabilia and murals. The restaurant is clean, although dated. Last night I got the craving for an Italian beef sandwich. Not wanting to repeat my mistake from before, I arrived at 4:45p. This time a sign in the door told me they were closed from 4/13 to 4/21. It is somewhat frustrating to want to support a local business that has such limited hours and then randomly closes for a week. They've been open for a long time and seem to have a loyal following of regulars, so it must work for them. read more

The Pizza Man does a good version of thin crust and you can get it with Italian beef and giardiniera. They have leaned into the idea of an Italian beef, even with serving the pizza with a side of aus jus. There hours are limited on weekends. They close at 6 on Friday and Saturday. Any place named 'Pizza Man' better have very good pizza, and this place certainly delivered. My large pepperoni slice with side salad and can weekday special ($6.99) was ready just a few minutes after I ordered at the counter, where the service from one of the owners was friendly and helpful. The slice measured 8" x 8", with a thin, crunchy, chewy crust, a flavorful sauce, tasty (but not plentiful) toppings and delicious cheese. The pizza was tasty without being greasy. I also liked the side salad, which measured 4" x 4" x 1-1/2" with fresh mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, carrots, cabbage, etc. The dining area was clean, spacious and somewhat dated with four video games, but without background music. FPO and I took another break in our KC BBQ tour to try Pizza Man. My favorite sister likes this place for their Chicago Dog. She picked up lunch for us here once before my downward spiral towards a plant based diet began (and that's still a work in progress) and I thought the dog was okay. When FPO came to town we went back. I got a small veggie pizza and on that first visit FPO got an Italian Beef sandwich with g-named Italian pickled vegetables, the name of which I never remember and that I wouldn't be able to spell in any case. It was love at first bite. The meat was hot and tender, the au jus was flavorful, and the g-named pickled vegetables were just the right amount of crunch and tang to offset too much of a good thing ... so I heard. I really liked the veggie pizza too. I've only heard of Chicago deep dish and the pizzas here are thin crust, which I like. The veggie has two kinds of olives, peppers, onions, and mushrooms. Crunchy, salty, sweet, perfect with the gooey cheese (that I know isn't plant based) and crispy crust. The second time we went FPO tried the Polish dog with Krauts which was unsuccessful in de-throning the Italian Beef Sandwich. I stuck with the veggie pizza in part because I really, really like it and in part because it's the only thing I can eat. Which is just fine with me. FPO has plans to further explore the menu, which is also just fine with me because I know I'm going to get a good pizza pie. read more

I have known of this place a long time but never eaten here until recently and boy and I am glad I gave it a try! The shaved beef sandwich with cheese is truly remarkable. Today I decided to try the meatball sub and a polish dog. I think the shaved beef with cheese is a better sandwich but the meatball sub was great. The polish dog also really got the mark. It was one of the best pizza's I've ever had. A thin cracker crust just like i like. I ate the leftovers cold today for lunch, still amazing.
