the outside of a restaurant
Denise G.

This is a bar with bar food and a few pizza items. When I walked in, I was met with the eyes of frequent visitors. Seemed like a fun atmosphere however, it is a true bar setting and not a restaurant style pizza place. Workers inside were very friendly, and the place seemed clean. I ordered a house salad and a veggie pizza where I picked the four vegetables allowed. The salad had way too many olives in it but their ranch dressing is homemade and pretty great. The vegetables on the pizza are from jars and cans. They are not fresh. I was told it would be 15 minutes and since I didn't want to sit at the bar by myself, I left and came back. The low rating is because of the misrepresentation that this is a pizza place versus a bar and also that none of the ingredients were fresh.

Cauliflower Thin Crust Pizza 10" with Canadian bacon

Definitely glad we tried this place! They have a nice style pizza. We got a one topping with sausage and a cauliflower crust with Canadian bacon. The flavor is great, it's close to home. I wouldn't get the cauliflower crust again though- not a huge fan. Their crust made in house is great! I think we will be back. We definitely enjoy Leo's just a bit better for their unique crust and cheese- so that's why it didn't get the full 5 We are happy customers

So, I've heard and read a few things about a Pizza Parlor that opened over on NE Vivion Rd. a while back. So, tonight I paid a visit to Zio's Pizza. They serve a thin crust Sicilian style of pizza cut party style. They also offer a cauliflower type for the gluten free/keto folks out there. I made a choice and ordered cold beer and a 14" "All Meat" Pie, after all I am a carnivore and no vegetables are needed. The pie came out piping hot with a golden brown and crispy crust. Sitting on top of a layer of delicious red sauce were generous portions of pepperoni, hamburger, Italian Sausage, Canadian Bacon all covered with an ooey gooey layer of cheese. With cheese and pepper shaker in hand, I doctored it up and dug in! I'll let the picture do the talking! This is a good pie! Well done Zio's Pizza! Well Done Indeed!

I was craving pizza, but since I was dining solo and Zio's doesn't offer slices I ordered from the sandwich menu. The Chicken Spiedini was calling my name as soon as I saw it listed. I started with a $3 house salad - iceberg, a little mozzarella, olives and a couple of pepperoni slices -meh. The $9 sandwich more than made up for the boring salad. Multiple slices of the breaded chicken, covered in melted cheese on a warm soft bun. A thick flavorful red sauce and a delicious cup of amogio for dipping made for a wonderful sandwich experience. The hand cut chips were not overcooked as most places seem to do and were liberally salted. A repeat visit for the Chicken Spiedini pizza is coming soon!

Pepperoni, black olives, green bell pepper pizza

First time ordering Zio's Pizza and it was delicious! Loved the thin and slightly crispy crust. The cheese to sauce ratio was perfect. Not too much, not too little. Had pepperoni, black olives, and green bell pepper. Was the perfect cheat meal!

This pizza place is amazing! We had the Hawaiian pizza And it was great! Sweet with a little bit of kick and a lot of cheese! Everyone was super nice, and we got a free toasted ravioli with our specialty pizza which was very good too! Normal priced and you get the best pizza! This is a hidden gem and will now be our favorite pizza spot!

Excellent. East coast, thin crust, bar style pizza. Sauce has a some spice to it. Maybe oregano. Cool little bar and friendly service.

Bay Boy is THAT Boy! I'm thrilled to have another location of Bay Boy in the Northland, which is…read moresuch an up and coming neighborhood. This Bay Boy is a small window located inside The Commons which is connected to Cinderblock Brewery but, don't be fooled by its small stature it still carries the full menu of the West Plaza location. The one thing it boasts is you can grab a brew from with The Commons bar or from Cinderblock while your sandwich is crafted. And don't fret because these sandwiches are well worth any wait they may take! What makes Bay Boy utterly unforgettable is the Dutch crunch bread. This unique crackly slightly crunchy but still, oh so pillowy soft bread is the perfect vessel to hold all the fillings of any of the sandwiches on the extensive menu. My number one recommendation sadly is not always on the menu but if you catch it you better order it! It is called The Blue Blaze and it consists of juicy white meat turkey, peppery arugula, melty mild white cheddar and locally sourced spicy blueberry jam. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory with a kick. Another winner is the Wagyu Nebraskan if you want a bougie take on a Rueben. The Wagyu corned beef is locally sourced and is melt in your mouth paired with a slightly sweet kraut, nutty Swiss cheese and the tangy thousand island this sandwich is an elevated take on a classic. Another winner, well let's just face it any sandwich at Bay Boy is a winner winner chicken dinner (in the words of the iconic Guy Fieri), but let's focus on another rift of a classic sandwich the El Jefe. This is Bay Boy's take on a Cubano but unlike its predecessor the bread isn't flat or pressed it's on a Dutch crunch roll like every sandwich on the menu. The mojo pork is buttery and fatty- in a good way- making the meat so moist that combined with salty ham, melted Swiss and zingy briny pickles makes for a killer combination. Don't forget the mustard! And how Bay Boy makes it there own is with an addition of a zesty vibrant red pepper sauce. You can't help but to love El Jefe. I could go on and on about how each sandwich is unparalleled but, I'll just bore you with one more...The Bay Boy, I couldn't cover Bay Boy's without mentioning the sandwich that the restaurant was named after (or was it the other way around) anyways it doesn't matter. The Bay Boy is a cold sandwich (unlike the other ones I mentioned which are all toasty) which may sound simple but, the medley of flavors is paired down perfection. No pile of meats just stand alone Soppressata which shouldn't need any introduction because it's the superior salami. This sandwich gets sauced down with not one, not two but four sauces that make the sandwich anything but dry. Classic mayo and mustard are alongside a creamy pungent garlic sauce and a red pepper sauce, which is a mix of cherry and banana peppers. Then produce is added for freshness, think lettuce, tomato and zippy raw red onions (my personal favorite) with pickles of course! This truly is a sandwich masterpiece.

Finally made it over to Bay Boy in North Kansas City inside the Commons and yeah... I get why…read morepeople keep talking about it. It's a walk-up window, super lowkey, but the food is not playing. I got a turkey sandwich with gouda and peppers, added blueberry jam, and grabbed a bag of chips on the side. The bread is really what sets it off. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and it actually holds everything together. The turkey and gouda were solid, peppers gave it a little bite, and that blueberry jam added just enough sweetness to balance everything out without being weird about it. I paused after the first bite because it caught me off guard in a good way. Finished the whole thing, chips and all. Simple setup, really good food, and I'll absolutely be back.

Trying to capture how delicious everything was in one review is tough, but I'll give it my best. First off, customer service was outstanding--Lyssa truly knocked it out of the park. She was so delightful, and I couldn't help but laugh when we both got excited about my sandwich choice. These folks really know their stuff. They treat their animals with care and expertise, and it shows. Having been to many fine dining spots, I can honestly say the quality of meat here at The Upper Cut KC surpasses them all. I'm picky about my food and can tell great quality when I see it & taste it. The Upper Cut KC deserves way more than five stars--seriously, I mean it! I also tasted my daughter's brisket sandwich--absolutely tender beyond words. And don't miss their Mac & Cheese; it's worth a standing ovation! Do yourself a favor: just go and experience it! P.S.--The Butcher Shop inside brings back so many nostalgic memories.

4 star food, 3 star pricing and wait time…read more I'm not one to complian about pricing much but $31 for just this sandwich and small side is discouraging when compared to available options in the city. I thought the brisket sandwich was fairly tasty, but it wasn't huge, the onions weren't carmelized they were grilled, and the brisket wasn't smokey. The Mac and cheese was fine and good but not great. If I lived closer and I could get the above with a soda for $20-23, I would give it 4 stars. There's nothing amazing about it to earn 5 stars even if it were priced like I wish. The place wasn't that busy, but with one register running, 4 people in line, and ringing up 2 butcher orders that came in after I was there, it took me about 12 minutes to place the order and another 20 to have my sandwich and side.
