Half the reason I go there is the enjoyable banter I have with one of the employees. She's a native New Yorker with the wonderful attitude that goes with it and I always take my out of town (Southern) guests for a morning cup of coffee and a little Brooklyn/Queens rough and tumble. She's got a great attitude under a tough demeanor. A true optimist who never fails to cheer me up. I've seen employees come and go over the years and its been good to have some consistency. So I guess I like that Grimaldi keeps it local and manages to keep a strong neighborhood identity. read more

While I was shopping this morning, I had the Fairway French Bread (baked on their premises, with all-natural ingredients) in my hand but I ditched it in favor of your Italian bread. Even though it was a little more expensive, my hometown pride and Sicilian heritage made me a customer of Grimaldi's. But when I got home, I read the ingredients in your Italian bread. Italian bread only needs 4 or 5 ingredients to be baked correctly. Your bread, however, has a dozen strange-sounding ingredients, including hydrogenated oil, which is so bad NYC bans it in restaurants; and bleached flour, which is unnatural and unhealthy. I was really disappointed that your bread has these ingredients, so I won't buy it anymore. If Vito Grimaldi in fact used these ingredients in his original bread (which I doubt), then it was because he lacked knowledge and choice. But surely you and everyone else knows that hydrogenated oils and bleached flour are bad, and completely unnecessary when making bread, and there are now many natural alternatives available. I just took a bite of your bread and it is very good. Imagine how much better it would be if Grimaldi's used whole, unbleached grains and natural, organic ingredients. If you want to have a really good European bread you will love the Yugo bread here. It's a bit pricey as most of the pastries. However I won't buy cakes here anymore as I got some weird aftertastes with the chocolate cake, I think it wasn't fresh. read more

I am so disappointed with this bakery in my neighborhood which is why I am writing this review and would like to share it with you. I stopped going to Grimaldi's over a year ago after experiencing cold coffee and old muffins each time I'd purchase it for my wife. I mentioned it to the old Asian lady whom appears to be the Manager and she had no clear acceptable explanation nor did she even seem to care.. So a year or more has gone by and we decided to give them a try again. The coffee is self service and after making a cup, I was surprised that it was barely even warm, but more surprised that nothing has been done about it. I am almost certain that the simplest solution is to get new coffee urns since the ones they have no longer seal the heat in and allows for the hot brewed coffee to no longer remain hot, but rather barely even warm. I mentioned it to the counter girl and her reply was maybe you put too much milk. Really?.. that's your poor excuse for serving cold coffee? I then said, I didn't and regardless your coffee should be hot, but no problem, I will take it home and microwave it since they didn't have one. I then ordered a banana walnut muffin and asked if it was fresh. The counter girl replied of course it is. I let her know that the last few times I purchased one, it clearly was cold as if it was refrigerated and not the freshest. She then tells me that they keep their muffins for a couple of days and sell them fresh. I looked at her as if "are you kidding me?" A muffin that is a couple of days old, can not possibly be sold as fresh, especially since you guys are a bakery. She was ready to ring me up and I walked away leaving her with the product in her hands. She suggested I call the management's office to complain. I walked away in disgust, expressing how I can not believe nothing has changed. We will not be supporting this establishment ever again. Mainly because the owner does not seem to care too much because if she did, she would be on top of her game instead of dissaapointing and losing customers. read more

Bagels were la gross, fluffy and insubstantial, the likely result of using poor quality flour. Croissants were decent, a tad greasy. Ambiance was clean and gringo friendly. Air-conditioning was grand. Recommend for its wide selection of Italian treats and maybe the bread, but not for bagels and breakfasty things. read more

This is the retail outlet of a large wholesale bakery that occupies the same building. They have everything from A to Z. Quality is uneven (I am talking about authenticity here, if the owners would sample a real bagel or real loaf of french bread they would fire their own baker instantly or reeducate him)The goods are always fresh but their pastry is drenched in sugar. Coffee, three different brews, is excellent. The store is nicely designed and spotless, the help is efficient and friendly enough. Prices are neither high or low. There is a soundtrack that the younger employees sometimes turn up to unpleasant levels. Their hours are great. This could be a great place if they had a smaller more authentic selection and played Donizetti rather then Michael Jackson:). Still it is good to have them in the neighborhood. read more

I have the same criticism as others here. This place only uses one kind of dough as far as I can tell, so the bagels have an extremely forgettable white bread texture and flavor. Don't go expecting to be able to get baguettes and boules here. I haven't tried their pastries but I believe they have italian cookies and cakes here. read more

I have literally grown up eating the Italian Semolina Bread from here. My grandma lives across the street, so every time she comes to visit us, she brings bags full of the sliced Semolina Bread. Now that I live in Queens, she brings me my own bag for my freezer. I honestly have never had any other Semolina Bread that can compare. This golden yellow amazingly sweet soft bread is to die for. It's what we look forward to when Grandma arrives! We all take a slice out and eat it plain before dinner, that's how delicious it is. Tip: you have to get there early, because their Semolina Bread sells out. read more

location is cute and inside smells really yummy..lots of yummy goodies on display..I found it disorganized though..things were kinda like everywhere and it was really overwhelming choosing & looking for that treat you want to buy..like the cakes were in one corner.._and then another cake way out in the corner..the customer service was meh...I asked one of the employees behind the counter what that pastry was called and she gave me one of the nastiest attitude/look ever! All I wanted to know what it was called/what it consisted off! She just gave me a nasty look and said go ask the other employee & turned her back on me! well you work there too!! Clean, pleasant Italian bakery with a large selection of cookies, pastries, and various other sweet treats as well as bread and bagels. Again, I'd have to do a taste test of similar items side-by-side to really rate the baked goods here versus the various other bakeries around, but Grimaldi's is at least on par with anyone else in Ridgewood. read more

I dont give 5 stars unless you are totally deserving. This place is tops in my book. From the fresh egg rolls, kaiser rolls, loaves of bread, butter cookies and the best rainbow marzipan cookies. It is a little off the beaten path, which is fine to me. Because this is not a tourist trap like all the joints in NYC. They also have birthday, wedding or any occasion cakes which you can order in advance. Check out the almond horse shoe cookie covered in pecans, hmmmmmmm. This is a wonderful bakery with excellent service, delicious baked goods (fresh flaky croissants) and extremely reasonable prices. Their cakes are gorgeous, especially the black forest which I just purchased as a birthday cake; it was a big hit with everyone at the party. Perfect with champagne. This is the only bakery in Ridgewood I will go to from now on when buying a cake for a special occasion: the price, variety, taste, and quality simply can't be beat. read more

I started going back to this bakery because I pass by every morning when I go to work.I love the coffee, the apple turnover and donuts are fantastic. First week it was awesome the young Spanish girl was so sweet and had a great attitude early in the morning which is a good way to receive the customers.But I am confused i don't know if customers have to take the exact cash, everyday I get asked if I have the exact cash by another of your employee, she was a little bit loud and had a attitude when I was ordering my donuts. Cookies are delicious... Coffee is "ok" but decent. So many goodies! The bagels are light and fresh, not firm. I love them though!

I can't give it 5 stars yet, only because I haven't had enough things from here. However, their rolls are RIDICULOUS. They are so DAMN good my family has been buying them from here since before I was born. They also make deliveries of their roles to other bakeries and deli's so it is nice and convenient for my family to run in somewhere else and get our favorite rolls. The rice pudding and cheese cake are amazing. This place is one of the best in Queens/Brooklyn.

If you do't get there early on a weekend the Semolina loaf sells out fast. Their cheesecake is really delicious.

I've been going to Grimaldi's Bakery for over 15 years. As a former Ridgewood resident, it was one of my "go to bakeries" for cakes & cookies whenever asked to bring dessert to a special event. Recently, I tried the coconut donut...it is simply divine. The cinnamon rolls are big enough for a family of 4 and the bread is always fresh and available. I highly recommend Grimaldi's Bakery to anyone looking for great quality and value...you will not be disappointed. read more
