I'm actually quite a big fan of Rainbow Bakery and visit their Flushing locations quite often. It's definitely one of my favorite Chinese bakeries simply for the variety. They have a lot of variety, y'all (even cream puffs!). Imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a Rainbow Bakery in Elmhurst, which is way closer to me. How ironic that I didn't realize this gem was practically in my backyard all along! Now, this Elmhurst location is definitely smaller than their Flushing spot and doesn't have the same wide array of goodies. But hey, the prices are fantastic, so you can't really complain. A fun fact for you: Johnny Lo, the owner of Rainbow Bakery, specifically chose to open his stores in areas with a high immigrant population to create a sense of community. So not only are you getting delicious baked goods, but you're also supporting a place that aims to bring people together. This is far from a Cannelle Patisserie or a Radio Bakery but if you're ever in Elmhurst and craving some tasty Chinese bakery treats, give this Rainbow Bakery a visit. It may be smaller, but it's got a big heart and some seriously delicious options.

I am so happy to have discovered this gem of a bakery on the outskirts of Elmhurst, just a short walk from Queens Center Mall. Today was my second time visiting and I got the dried shrimp rice noodle with an iced honey lemon beverage, and some bakery goods to go (those sponge cakes were so big and fluffy, I could not resist!). This place has all the hallmarks of an authentic Chinese bakery. Let me list them. 1. Contemporary Chinese pop music playing. Music needs to not be too old, but not too new. Mid-last 2000s is the sweet spot. 2. Possibly cash only? (I saw a sign that they take card, but most customers seem to pay in cash) 3. They had rice noodle rolls with mixed sauce on the menu, which I was really excited for but unfortunately was sold out by the time I got there, so I got the dried shrimp one instead. 4. Great selection of baked goods but also so many "dimsum-adjacent" dishes. I am not sure how to explain this, things like steamed buns, dumplings, a small portion of rice topped with spare rib, etc. They make for good lunches when you just need something hot, but don't want to commit to a whole meal. The rice noodle was perfectly steamed, generous amount of dried shrimp, and was smooth and bouncy. The only thing missing was a good sprinkle of scallion, but I wonder if that is something I can ask for next time? Lastly, I was surprisingly happy with the iced honey lemon drink. Oftentimes, this drink tastes too bland (not enough honey), or comes out borderline lukewarm (not enough ice), but they made it perfect. That rounds out the 5/5 review.

A lot to choose from for sweet baked items; not too much savory options at the time I went, and there are other desserts I would like to try so will return. Prices are good. 3.5 I tried the mango roll slice but not much mango flavor. My son had the blueberry pineapple bread but he said blueberry is only the little topping and he couldn't tell the pineapple. The chocolate cake with cream cheese is shareable, and cream cheese part is not very sweet. Was satisfied with the HK iced milk tea with bubbles. Place is still new, a lot of seating. Area is off of Queens Blvd and is near the subway station.

One of my new addictions. Topped with a yummy cinnamon cookie. Filled with a coffee flavor filling in a crunchy rolled croissant.

Forget the tea and coffee. I only come here for their Croissant Croon. I absolutely can't walk by this place without picking one up. You can buy two and get one free but that sounds like a trap to me. I would definitely eat all three so I completely only limit myself to one. It is a round donut shaped flakey croissant filled with flavors of cream like chocolate, matcha, strawberry, etc. Then dipped with like a frosting. My favorite flavor is their coffee one topped with a cinnamon cookie. That is my go to flavor but I have tried their other flavors. Sadly because they ran out of the coffee flavor. They do offer other types of pastries like mochi donuts, cream filled cakes plus more but I always say to myself, next time I'll try them. I have tried some of their steamed dim sum but it's ok for a quick dim sum fix. As always it's better to try and get here early so that there is more to choose from and everything is fresher.

Always a good option to come in for dim sum to go at a good price. You can sit here for a bit also if you are trying to eat a quick bite. They got rid a bunch of menu options lately unfortunately. Overall a good option for your basic Chinese dim sum staples!

A neighborhood gem of a bakery! Very Hong Kong/Cantonese style fare. The limited dim sum choices make it that much more inviting than a regular Chinese bakery. It's not the same level of dim sum from a full scale restaurant but it is very close to. Price wise, it totally makes up for that. And the convenience of not having to run to a restaurant makes this spot a great pit stop for both things. A full drink menu if you're into the Chinese tea varieties and coffee. My Yelp Bestie Jo I. brought me here for a quick dim sum run and it was so worth the trip to Elmhurst. Would totally return to try more stuff. This visit I had picked up $50 worth of dim sum and $15 worth of buns for the family and a little extra. The variety was just like the typical Chinese bakeries - fresh baked butter buns, white bread by the loaf, roast pork buns, corn buns, hot dog buns, etc. There were a bunch of sweets available as well - sweet red bean paste, cookies, and sponge cakes. Dim sum highlights: shrimp rice crepes, beef rice crepes, or spare rib rice crepes. They also sell shrimp dumplings (har kow), pork and shrimp siu mai, bean curd rolls, veggie dumplings, pan fried turnip cakes, steamed pork and veggie buns, etc. Lots to choose from... Just check out my pics. Bring cash!! No credit cards accepted here.

Huge choice for bakery, grapped a bruch of it to go. Sadly I came here for dim sum but it didn't seem they have it or maybe they served it only in the morning.

Yesterday my order consisted of: egg tart, red bean pastry, garlic bread, milk tea, and coffee with tea. This place has been my go-to for the past two years for a light, simple, and affordable breakfast. The service is a no-frills place, and there's tables to eat at (without chairs) for a quick meal. The drinks are whatever, but I'm not sure why I always get a drink here anyways lol. It's cheap and just ok :) I love taking the bakery out to Elmhurst park across the street and people-watch. This bakery holds a lot of memories for me, and I like it here!

The have my favorite items here in one place in a convient to go store front with a little countertop for days where you want to just slowdown and take in the hustle and bustle queens Boulevard. Dim sum, breads, coffees teas, Bubble teas all of it is here in one convienient spot for you to grab and go! The quality is decent for all the items I've tried here, add that with a convienience as a factor this space could easily be a go to if I were more convieniently located

Rainbow Bakery was clean and the workers were nice. The baked goods are all really delicious and affordable. You can get a bun at like $1 something and even a sandwich for $3. We got a ton of baos like the classic pineapple bun and the other new ones that I haven't seen before. It's a classic Hong Kong style bakery delivery delicious food at a great value to the community. Make sure you come and support!

A total of 4.5/5 for me so far. I've been meaning to try some of their dim sum but ended up grabbing a ham and egg bun and sugar donut twist. It interesting that they had nutrition facts on the fact of their wrappings, I don't recall seeing many other bakeries (or may not have noticed). The quality of the food seemed fairly standard, although the bread for the bun seemed slightly sweeter and a tad different to other places. The prices here seem to be slightly higher than some other Chinese bakeries in the area just slightly. However, while I have not had the chance to try many items (I'll be back!!) the vast variety of desserts (they have somewhat unique cakes, cream puffs, cheesecakes), breads, and dim sum really make this a more expansive one-in-all stop. The interior feels quite modern and minimal feel (don't get me wrong-I still love the old school bakeries!). My only wish is that they would stay open later since I personally get off work quite late to catch them on a weekday. Will update once I get to try more items!

I hadn't really visited this block since the great Pacific restaurant closed (two lobsters cooked Cantonese style for $19.99!!), but a friend brought me shu mai from here and well, now I'm a regular on this block again! I had no idea that the best dim sum was right here in Elmhurst!! And that it took form in such a cute bakery. To get this amazing dim sum, just go to the back of the bakery and you'll see the full dim sum menu. While their offering is limited than the big dim sum dining halls in Flushing or Chinatown, this Rainbow Bakery has the best of the best. And I say this Rainbow Bakery because there are chains of this bakery and they all offer different items. Which I'll go into later! This branch's dim sum menu has: (my favorites are starred!) 1. Shrimp Har Gow ($3.50) * 2. Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai ($3.25) * 3. Steamed Beef Ball ($3.25) 4. Bean Curd Skin Sheet Roll ($3.25) * 5. Pan Fried Turnip Cake ($3.25) * 6. Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf ($2.50) 7. Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce ($3.25) 8. Spare Ribs with Rice Noodle Roll ($3.75) 9. Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll ($3.50) * 10. Beef Rice Noodle Roll ($3.50) * (11 and 12 are no longer available) 13. Salted Fish with Pork over Rice ($3.95) 14. Spare Ribs over Rice ($3.95) 15. Shredded Pork and Preserved Egg Congee (L: $3.50, S: $2.00) * 16. Fried Rice Noodles with Shredded Egg and Vegetables ($2.50) Listed separately: Pan Fried Shrimp and Chive Dumpling (N/A) * Steamed Buns: - Plain ($1.20) - Vegetable with pork ($1.50) - Chicken ($1.50) - Roast pork ($1.50) - Combination (Pork, Chicken, Egg, Sausage) ($2.25) When ordering, for non-native Cantonese speakers, just tell them the number that you want--it's easier for them to grab rather than saying the full English name. This place is amazing. And their prices? Unbeatable! The quality is just like ones you get at the dim sum dining halls--just without the rolling carts (which I know, are the best part, but COVID-19, so). The only thing is that their congee is always sold out past 9AM, so just be wary of that. As I mentioned before, this branch is 1 out of 4. Another branch isn't too far away from this one, which is the Rainbow Dim Sum (82-53 Broadway). Their menu is a bit bigger (like they offer 10 different types of congee!!), but the style of food is also different. For example, their steamed rolls are cooked differently than this Queens Blvd one, and I prefer this branch's. But that branch has chicken feet... So long story short, I go to both branches for different menu items! Get the best of both worlds. But back to this branch: not only is their dim sum delicious--so are their baked goods! Similar to Chinese bakeries, you pick and grab whichever baked goods you want AND they list the time they were last baked at. I got a turkey and egg sandwich and it was good! They also have some more dim sum goodies there, like roast pork puffs, so be sure to check there before you check out! Basically, while this store is small, do not miss out on it!! What a gem, Elmhurst!

That is one tasty har gow.

The birthday girl was so happy with the design. I ordered a 20 person cake. There were 2 choices-round or sheet cake. Round is $60 which is what I opted for since I thought it looked prettier and the sheet cake is $50. The round cake actually came out very tall but gorgeous. Harder to cut too since it was taller. The owner was so nice. He custom made the top of the cake box to make sure the cake fit and doesn't get damaged. The fresh cream on the cake is so good. Not too sweet and very light. Perfect with the strawberries. The cake part was moist and yummy. I forgot how much I love this cake. All the nostalgic memories of eating it when I was younger came back. Honestly, I think it's even better than I remember. And the price was so reasonable for such a beautifully decorated cake.
