Decided on Better Half Kitchen to start the day and get some work done. The space is quite small, with just three tables outside and a few seats by the window indoors. Their drink menu is especially distinctive, with an impressive range of options like an ube matcha latte with coconut cloud, guava matcha latte, ube hojicha latte with mocha, and even a red bean matcha latte. There is definitely no shortage of creativity here - love to see that!! I ordered the iced ube hojicha for $9 (a bit pricey but I was willing), and my sister and I both agreed that it tasted like cereal milk. I wish the ube or even the hojicha element was stronger, since it did come across a bit bland. Not my favorite drink, but I could still appreciate the care behind it. The preparation felt very deliberate, and it was clear the staff takes pride in creating a thoughtful experience. They sift + hand-mix the hojicha, top it off with freshly whipped cream, and do a cool patterned design on the foam cap, which made the whole process feel especially meticulous. Overall, 3.8/5. Maybe I chose the wrong drink this time around. I also wish their ube latte is just pure ube and no coffee - it's kind of rare to see that type of mix in the city.
We were in Elmhurst killing time before lunch and decided to get coffee. Small spot. Busy inside as well. I got a cold brew which was strong and black. My Daughters got an Ube latte and an Ube matcha with coconut cloud. Both drinks were tasty. If I was in the area this place was worth a repeat visit. Out door seating available as inside has none other than a shelf/counter with stools.
Cute, lowkey coffee shop with some indoor seats & plenty of outdoor seating. Ordered the chopped cheese sandwich & it was incredible! It was a really good size & I didnt feel guilty eating it afterwards. Will definitely be coming back & aiming to try everything on their menu! Staff was really warm and welcoming!
The brown sugar latte here was kinda mid, could barely taste the brown sugar. However, their guava matcha tasted phenomenal, was just pretty expensive for matcha, around $10. Service is quick. There are only a few bar seats available inside and maybe some seating outside if the weather is nice. Otherwise, more of a grab and go cafe.
Cute little coffee shop. Read about their "BEC". Thought it was all hype bc let's face it, NYerd have their bias. But this did not disappoint. The eggs was stacked full of flavor. The brioche offered the perfect sweetness and salt. Will come back.
Really cute cafe in the neighborhood! I like how they have seasonal drinks and their matcha is delicious. Service was quick and I would come back to try more of their items.
Food: Food and drinks are excellent here! We tried the ube coconut latte, chopped cheese, and jerk chicken quesadilla. The ube coconut latte was so good and not sweet at all. I am looking forward to trying other drinks from there. They have a variety of lattes and refreshers on their menu. The chopped cheese was excellent quality and something I would order again. It was tasty and moist. The jerk chicken quesadilla wasn't anything special and a bit underwhelming. I wouldn't order this one again. I wish the cheese was a bit more melted and served hotter. Service: Staff were amazing and super friendly. Lovely staff! Ambiance: The cafe is very small, but there are about four counter seats along the window, a little bench inside in the cafe, and two tables with chairs outside in front of the cafe. It's a nice cafe to do some work in and enjoy your drink. Overall, I would highly recommend this cafe!
Wanted to get their avocado toast but at 4pm, kitchen was already closed! Wondering why so early when they close at 6pm. Too bad. Tried their Ube coconut cloud, iced (addtl $1) so around $9, kind of pricey. I did enjoy it- like a thin milkshake consistency; and the cloud was the best part for me. Caffe latte was ok. Staff was nice although made an error when charging us, good thing my husband was paying attention (more than I was), and was corrected. Small area indoors, nice and clean decor. Some seating indoors by the window, and outdoors - covered with umbrella. No restroom. Street parking - metered and around the residential areas.
This cute little shop is definitely worth the visit if you are around this area. The staff are nice and friendly and are accommodating as well. I currently am not having caffeine and they were very nice to direct me to how they can make my drink caffeine free. I got the ube latte which I really liked. It wasn't too sweet but also I understand why they put a shot of espresso inside, I just wish they had a decaf option. I also got the apple turnover (not pictured) but this I actually did not enjoy. Maybe I need to try some of their other parties but the apple filling was a little sour which was off putting and there were no chucks of apple. It felt like a pastry filled with sour apple sauce. I will be back to have more of their drinks and maybe give their pastries another chance.

Adorable spot! It is small and cozy with about 4 seats and a long counter, no bathroom, and a few staff members working. The food is worth though. I had their doughnuts, their avocado toast, their bacon egg and cheese brioche, and also their lattes. All of the items that I ever ordered were delicious. The ladies who work here are kind as well.
Truly the most incredible and delicious ube latte I've ever had. My local friend told me to stop here as I am an ube fiend, and it was my first destination when I got to the city. I am craving another one already!

Finally a spot with a solid ube latte! It's not too sweet, and the ube flavor definitely pulls through. It would be great to have the espresso taste come through more, but I may just have to add another shot of espresso. The jerk chicken quesadilla was great as well! It's well spiced and a good size to share with a friend. I highly recommend and would def get it again. It's a small spot with bar seats inside, and a few outside tables which would be nice in the summer. The staff was super friendly and let us know that they'll be having a pandan latte in the summer, so I'll be back for that! read more

Ate here today for lunch by myself while working as a paraprofessional at P.S. 12 Q. I had brought and ate the avocado toast with egg and bacon with a side of strawberry iced tea that it tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and super fast. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time. read more
Love this cozy little spot in Woodside. We had to try the ube drink, and it did not disappoint rich, vibrant, and perfectly sweet. I also ended up getting the avocado toast with egg, which was super delicious and really well seasoned. The atmosphere is relaxing, the decor is charming, and it's the kind of place where you can linger and enjoy your food. The staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely helpful, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a place I'd come back to. read more

I visited Better Half and I'm in love with the drinks. I got earl grey yuzu lemonade which was refreshing. The Ube latte was sweet, it tasted like a dessert. The sandwiches were yummy. The only thing I wish is that the sandwiches would be bigger. The cafe itself is small, maybe 4-5 people fit for seating. They do have one table for outdoor seating if that is your vibe. read more

I had to come right to Yelp to write about the excellent and humbling experience I had grabbing a quick snack here. I stood behind a gentleman picking up and order and the gentleman behind the counter thanked me for waiting. It was a nice gesture that complimented the delicous jerk chicken quesadilla I had there. Excellent hospitality on the part of this cool little cafe. I washed it down with a tasy passionfruit refresher that hit the spot. It's a tiny, cool cafe and a great addition to the neighborhood. Great to see Elmhurst hosting cool spots like Better Half. I wish them all the success in the world. This is the type of establishment that reminds me that Elmhurst is one of the truly great neighborhoods in the world, not just New York City. read more

August 2025: As I entered this quaint new cafe, intrigued by their seasonal pandan latte advertised on their window, I was greeted by one of the two staff working on a hot summer weekend. Growing up with pandan drinks and food as a Southeast Asian, I definitely have high expectations. The price point listed was $6-$8 so I was quite confused why I ended up paying $8 over $6. I didn't question the price from the barista as she asked me what type of milk I would like. The final product looked amazingly green which I'm ok with since I've seen pandan in all crazy shades of green. I am guessing there's a bit of espresso (or lack of it), but it looked and tasted more like a simple pandan milk drink which I did like but nothing more complex than that. The price was what had me questioning based on the price list; there are several surrounding Thai restaurants and cafes in the area that make pandan drinks but not at this price point. I just wish the price matched the listing on their seasonal specials menu, creating a questionable experience. I even asked for regular milk thinking a different option (ex oat milk) would bounce the price to $8 from $6...? The service was good but not amazing mostly because the barista just asked what type of milk and not the size or temperature of the drink like other shops usually do. Ambience is small and possibly the AC was broken as it was not comfortable being inside as I saw customers sitting outside instead. The front table was dirty with crumbs and the counter seemed a bit disheveled with other to-go drinks and an overflowing garbage. I think this coffee shop is more of a takeout or to-go shop. They do use Partner's coffee beans. Accepts cash, card and Applepay. No bathroom. Small space with no music. Indoor/outdoor, take out and delivery available. read more

The staff members are amazing so nice and courteous I must say The Customer service was phenomenal , so let's get into the food I had the chop cheese with cheddar cheese and one with American cheese chefs kisses also the jerk chicken quesadilla next level the best quesadilla I've ever had to this day, I had 2 refresher passion fruit and peach they were really good the star of the drinks was the Coquito drink I fell In love immediately so so amazing I'll be back again . Finally a local coffee shop that actually cares about the quality and flavor profile of what espresso should taste like. Normally I have to wait to get Partners coffee (one of the top flavor profile imo) a place in Queens that finally carries this deliciousness. So I've gone back many times in the last few weeks. Highlights- Iced americano black for obvious reasons, ube latte was quite decadent but a wonderful treat, and their iced matcha really surprised me too. Prices are great, I work in the city so I go out of my way to grab a drink before I end up spending $10 for the same thing in the city. Everyone working there seems pleasant, will continue to support this small biz! read more

I ordered a strawberry matcha Latte it was okay. $11 for a regular sized strawberry matcha is pretty pricey my go to spot is in Brooklyn and one in the city and even then the most I ever paid is $8 with strawberry included but $11 for this drink wasn't the best especially that it didn't taste like strawberry so much more like regular matcha. read more
