I am in the neighborhood and passed by at this bakery. My eyes caught their special turnover on the display cabinet. I picked apple turnover, options are baked in three different ways. I got it all. I myself picked a scone. Lived it. Pricing is standard. The place has a small dining spot. It looks like a historic bakery that could be a staple in the town. I brought it home for hubby. My hubby enjoyed each piece.

    old Crumb Cake

old crumb cake, tastes days old. The cake portion is dry stale and flavorless. Gotta do better Joe, seems to be too worried about profits and cutting corners than a good product, that's clear as day. Disappointing, place was been on a decline since covid. Really sad to see an owner who doesn't recognize retirement.

I really wanted to give this place a better review but my crumb cake was stale and not the first time. This last time was worst than the others. It is a local shop, where people from the neighborhood come and have breakfast and sit at one of the small tables they have off to the back and side wall. It has the mom & pop feel and the prices are really good but a quality check needs to be done. Toss the old stuff and give us a taste of fresh baked goods. Stale and old pastries are a bad sign for a business and make people turn away and go elsewhere.

This is a solid, old school, neighborhood bakery. Do yourself a favor and go here over the DD across the street. Great breakfast, don't count on getting a table in here. Grab your food on the way to work, egg sandwiches and bagels are phenomenal here. What a selection! Freshly made in house bagels with their own cream cheeses and unique spreads, breakfast here is always a treat. Top it off with fresh amazing coffee and you're sure to have a great start to your day. Staff is always happy and helpful. Its not all about breakfast sandwich and bagels here .They also provides cakes and baked goods with awesome service. This place does become somewhat crowded sometimes, so be prepared to either wait for a table or eat while standing. My go-to bakery when i'm in this part of queens. Bagels are always fresh, always delicious, and never fails or disappoints. All around solid bakery in Maspeth.

    Blackout Cake

Walked in here to see the display, and instantly had to buy my favorite cake of all time. Blackout cake isn't very common nowadays, so it's nice to see this long-standing bakery have an old Brooklyn classic on the menu. I will say, it's not the best blackout cake I've ever had (there's an odd taste at first bite), but it's still decadent and satisfying. They should just edit the recipe a little bit to make it have a more chocolatey flavor.

Disgusting chocolate cake that smelled and tasted like nail polish.

Stay away! My boyfriend was in the neighborhood and decided to buy some treats to surprise me. He told me that upon entering, the bakery didn't look that good, but he decided to still give it a shot. He should have listened to his gut! He got a slice of coffee crumb cake, which was dry and stale. He also got a chocolate muffin, which he said was just okay and nothing special. And worst of all was the individual-sized chocolate cake. After one bite, my daughter asked if there was nail polish in the cake and asked me to try some. I took a whiff and it smelled like nail polish! Gross!!! I reluctantly took one bite and it tasted like nail polish too. It went right in the trash after that. I hope we don't get sick now!

My family from all over has been coming here for years for their Pretzel Rolls! They are truly to die for! They are located on a main road in Maspeth/Glendale. They have amazing prices and have so many other options besides their delicious pretzel rolls! They have mini cakes, big cakes, cookies, tarts! Not only that they make breakfast and have coffee! Plus they have boars head meats here too! Very cute! Very old school! Everything here is fresh and the staff is very attentive and nice!

We came by the day before Mother's Day, so they had pre decorated Mother's Day cakes. You can also place an order. Service is quick and friendly. We initially planned on getting a Strawberry Shortcake, as that seemed to be the cake to get. However, we opted for the Cheesecake, because we were able to add fresh strawberries (and whipped cream) on top! I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so I avoided that, but everyone seemed to enjoy. It had a good creamy texture and was not too sweet. The strawberries were indeed fresh. The pound cake was soft and airy. The vanilla flavor comes through. I will have to try the Marbled version next time! Note: Cash Only! A regular customer ordered the tiramisu cake; said it was the best cake ever, so will have to try that next time!

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!

Our dinner there tonight was perfect! We ordered chicken wings, french fries, and pork soup dumplings for our kids. For my husband and me, we enjoyed the pork combo, the crispy watercress salad and Batagor (fried fish cake, fried tofu, fried wontons and fried potato with peanut sauce on the side in case our kids wanted any). Our most memorable and refreshing dish was the Crispy Watercress Salad. Who knew watercress could be fried!?! lol We will definitely be ordering again next time as well as recommending to others. This dish was refreshing and light. Loved every bite! The pork combo was a combination of roast pig, sausage slices, fried slices of fish cake, etc. with rice and soup on the side. Easily the ideal lunch for one person or to share with someone! The Batagor was very fun to eat because it reminded me of fondue but with peanut sauce. I loved dipping the fried fish cake, fried tofu, fried wonton and fried potato in the yummy peanut sauce. This night was delicious and the perfect family dinner for us. With tax and 20% tip, total was about $145 and change. A little steep for family dinner but it was about right considering the raising cost of groceries. We considered it our New Year dinner. Eaton Cafe definitely gets two thumbs up from me and my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! Happy New Year everyone!

As far as the dining area- The restaurant was spacious, composed of neatly lined tables and chairs with their centerpiece luncheonette bar gracing the room. Their al fresco arrangement was remarkable- with their lighter hued blue and green colored metallic seats and tables quietly lining the corner of Menahan street. A softboi haven. I imagined this to be a type of restaurant where a newlywed Mormon couple in the Great Plains would run. A place where pleasantries and support for one's neighbor is what mattered. "Another delicious sandwich, Hezekiah. See you guys in church." but truthfully, I felt a bit sour overriding my preference for the reliable in favor for the novel. A half chicken over yellow rice with plantains might have been the better option for my pocket, palate, and my need to protein max. But woe is me. Regardless, I'll have to respectfully pass on seconds at the Salty Lunch Lady's.
