While breakfast is the most important meal, our household likes to flip the script and start our day with dessert. Our sweet tooth has never been disappointed by the taste or texture of Catania's baked goods. Please read to the end. One of the counter girls there made fun of my disabled friend. Even though, they made a mistake with my order and wouldn't give me my money back. My friend lives near by this bakery and I asked her to call and get prices for me. She was quoted $15 for 12 mini chocolate cannoli and $6 for 2 cheese loaves of bread. I agreed and she went to pay for it. Two days later, she gets a call saying the price is wrong and the cannoli will be $15 more. I called and told them I had already paid because the price made sense to me but I was not going to add $15. I could bake and was trying to save time but for $30, I could make my own. The counter girl told me I would not get a refund because they don't do that. I made it very clear that "they" made the mistake and I had a "paid" receipt which they should honor. She said she was going to speak to the manager. Since I didn't get a call back, my fried stopped by to get my money back. The counter girl was extremely rude to my friend and said the manager wasn't around or answering the phone. My friend waited and as she was waiting, the counter girl became annoyed and made fun of my friend calling her "crossed eye". How dare she made fun of someone's disability??? My friend was very upset and told her " I rather by crossed eye than a bitch!" Also, that she was going to write a bad review. The counter girl once again made a remark asking my friend if she even knew how to write. Unbelievable! What kind of person is this? No one should be made fun off or put down because they have a disability. All we wanted was our money back since they made a mistake and would not honor what I originally was quoted and already paid for. I called to speak to the owner but he's apparently never there. I thought maybe he wasn't aware of his employees treatment of customers. But my friend went back to speak to him and the same girl told her the owner didn't want her coming back to the bakery. Mind you, she has spent years going there. At the end, I got my money back but the way my friend was treated was extremely disrespectful. Family been going to this place for 25 years but the service is horrible now and they don't care about how much money you've spent there in the past. Ordered a cake for my girlfriend's bday for the 25th on the 24th. I was surprised they were going to be open so I requested a chocolate mousse and said I'll be back tomorrow to buy a new cake. The lady told me no bakers will be there tomorrow so whatever is on the display is what they will have. I didn't know what that meant because then why be open on the 25th. So I just said I'll take one and if they can write something on cake. I paid cash and said I'll be back tomorrow to pick it up. They took my money and didn't mention the hours of operation or took my info to call. I arrived at 2:30 pm and place was closed. Apparently they closed at 2 and was never informed. Thankfully Russo's bakery which is in the neighborhood was opened. Went back to Catania on the 27th to explain to them and they didn't want to give me a refund or a replacement cake. They offered me the old cake that was supposed to be mine. Such a disrespect after giving this place so much of my money for many years. Never again read more

4 Days Later after reaching out!! Catania Bakery is known as one of the top bakeries in Ridgewood that's why I trusted them and have been a loyal customer for years. But after this experience, I'm deeply disappointed and concerned. I ordered a simple vanilla cake with French cream and banana filling for my baby's first birthday smash cake. I clearly stated it was for a 1-year-old, and I asked for something basic and safe for a child. At the party, the cake looked nice, and my son enjoyed it. But the next day, my husband tasted it and immediately noticed a strong rum flavor. I was shocked no one told me rum extract or any alcohol flavoring would be used. If I had known, I would never have given it to my baby. There was no ingredient list, no allergy info, no disclosure nothing. This isn't just a miscommunication this is a food safety issue, especially for an infant. Rum extract can be dangerous for a child. This should have never happened. I called immediately and was told a manager would call me back. Days passed no response. On the fourth day, I called again and was told both the manager and the boss are out of the country. That feels like a convenient excuse to avoid the issue. Now, they've sent a message through an employee saying there are "no refunds or exchanges" but they'll offer a discount on my next order. Why would I go back after you put my child at risk? I originally asked for a partial refund, but after this complete lack of accountability, I believe a full refund is the minimum. This goes beyond a business mistake this is about trust, safety, and responsibility. When you're known as one of the top bakeries in the area, people expect better. I expected better. Hey boss, haayoodooin? I cames here by 9:30am and ordered 24 pastries. Everyding was already fully stocked. Whaat? They open at 6:00am! Dat ain't no fugazy! Being in Ridgewood on Monday, with some friends, who had not been in the neighborhood, we grew up in 30 years. I thought it would be appropriate, to take them to Catania Bakery, on Fresh Pond Road. Which is probably one of the best bakeries in the city. Walking in, the aroma of the fresh-baked breads, cakes and pastries. The crystal clean display case, with what those, lobster tails, éclairs, cookies and cakes, a feast for the eyes And senses. We picked up, lobster tails and cheesecake. We resisted eating them on the spot, so we can go to my house, and try a new cappuccino machine. I had never had a lobster tail, quite that good, they slice them in half, then stuff them with a pure white cream, that is not overly sweet, incredibly delicious, and the lobster tail, has an incredible crunch, none like I've ever had. I'm going back next week pickup some more lobster tails. The cheesecake, was very good as well, but that lobster tail, was INCREDIBLE. read more

Customer service in Catania bakery on Fresh Pond Rd does NOT exits. I ordered and PAID for 2 olive loaves on Thursday, when I was told they would make the bread. I was told they have delicious cream puffs. When already in Queens, I'll make that drive through confusing local streets and find my way to supposed cream puff perfection. They have two kinds of filling for their cream puffs, custard and cannoli. I bought a dozen of them, half of each. Both were delicious and it depends on preference as to which one is better. The pastry part of it was pretty good, but not as good as other places I've tried. The cannoli cream was really good. If you like slightly heavier and sweeter, go with the cannoli. The custard was lighter and less sweet, but the best part was how they got the consistency just right. I wouldn't make the trip into Queens just for them.
