A very good Italian bakery in Ridgewood that has a good variety of sweets , breads and really good cappuccino that I enjoyed with my apple turnover.All the pastries , cookies , pies , cakes , breads ,cetc, are displayed in plain sight and the smell is addictive to a point that you want to order many things . Don't order cakes from this bakery. For the 2nd time, they forgot to make my cake. I ordered my mother's 70th birthday cake 2 days ago (and paid completely for the cake) and when I went to pick it up today, they told me that they forgot to make it. Upon opening the items at home I noticed that they were from yesterday but I sacrificed so much and decided to eat it anyway and the cannoli cream was delicious unfortunately the crust was soggy. Overall, a great place for baked goods and bread. They're my go-to for Italian bread and make a great cannoli; I wish they had the cannoli more often when I've gone but I usually get a couple when I see them. The eclairs are also very good. The only downside is when I've gone on some weekday afternoons & seen displays of cakes that didn't look appetizing. One day there was a cake w/strawberries on it & one of the strawberries looked visibly rotten. Don't let displays like that fool you; if what I've had is any indication, I can't see their cakes being anything less than superb. The staff is also friendly and helpful. read more

Good bakeries are hard to find! They have fresh, delicious pastries, cookies, cakes, etc. My favorite treat to get are the fruit tarts. They use REAL pastry cream, unlike some bakeries that take a short cut. It's magical - biting into the little tart and getting a perfect amount of fresh fruits (kiwi, strawberries, blueberries) and that decadent pastry cream. Another great fact about this bakery is that they sell everything by the pound. You get a great deal for their products. I used to pay upwards to $4.00 for those little tarts (in Astoria). read more

Very good breads. I've tried some of their pastry...the eclairs were good...I think their mini cheesecakes were also ok. I'm not big on Italian pasty overall though....more on the simple cookies like anisette etc. But their breads are great. I have never written a review but felt this was a must....the girl on the front was nice but the man who i think is the owner needs to re-evaluate his manners. I went in ordered a coffee was debating which pastries to purchase when my two year old daughter needed to use the restroom. I asked the girl who proceeded to tell the owner in front of me if i could please take my daughter to the restroom. I could see a couple of man working on pastries towards the back room. He told me the only way he would let me thru is if the girl took my two year old daughter to the restroom which i didnt even have an eye view of where it was located from where i was standing. I would had prefer for him to tell me the restroom wasnt available to the public instead of him assuming i would just let my two year old daughter (who barely knows how to flush) go to the restroom with a complete stranger where i could see plenty of man working. So to you sir, I only pray for you and for your love ones never to experience such ignorance. read more

This bakery is great, mainly for their selection of homemade chocolates and sweets. I had a marzipan cigar and a white chocolate peanut butter cup, both of which were rich and delicious. Me and my family have a long time buying cakes and pastries from Monreale, usually they've always been good. Yesterday we bought a cannoli cake for a birthday and as per usual, we had some left overs for breakfast this morning. While the cake was good and fresh, in this slice of cake was a piece of chicken skin. Like as if someone had been eating chicken while baking our cake. It's disgusting, we have no idea if that chicken was in someone's mouth or just fell off their plate while making our cake. There should be no reason at all as to why there's chicken in our cake. We've bought cakes from here plenty of times and this is the first time it happened. i called the owner this morning to let him know and he said he didn't even believe me, that there couldn't have been chicken in our cake, that it was fresh. And while I did say it was fresh which it was, I simply told him to speak to the baker because there was a strip of chicken in our cake. The owner offered me a discount for the next time we buy a cake, but needless to say, we won't ever buy our cakes from Monreale ever again. read more
