On January 23rd, I ordered several Too Good To Go bags to help provide food for those in need. I've been without food before, so I understand how hard it can be. Even though I live on a small income, I still try to do the right thing, especially as life in New York City keeps getting harder. I picked up baked goods from Settepani Bakery to donate to the community fridge on Scholes Street. This was my first time visiting the bakery, and my overall impression was good. The shop was clean, the food was displayed nicely behind glass, and the staff was polite. I was given a bag with bread and other baked goods. I didn't get the chance to try anything myself, but I hope to in the future. Unfortunately, I can't eat butter or dairy products. I would visit again to pick up more items to donate to the community. read more

Was in a rush but craving a chocolate crossiant (as always). It's very hard to find a place still opened at 7:30pm that serves pastries or so I've found. So I was happy they were still open. When I walked in i was greeted by a group of older men not sure if this is a family opened place or not but it felt that way. The shop had quite the variety of pastries, categorized by treats. My eyes locked in on the morning pastries that consisted of a corn bread muffin, a scone, a hot cross bun, and more. I asked the staff: Me: "what do you recommend? Staff: "either the corn bread muffin or the scone." Me: "well I came here for a chocolate croissant so what would you suggest instead?"" Staff: "we may have some more chocolate croissants in the back" Me: (I saw a line had built up behind me) "no need, you don't have to do that" Staff: "so would you like the scone or corn bread muffin?" Me: "surprise me" Staff: "okay would you like it warmed up?" Me: "yes please" He went in the back to do that it seemed and when he came back with the bag he said: Staff: "I found a chocolate crossiant so I warmed it up for you" Me: "oh great thank you so much". The croissant was only $3 which I feel like is a decent deal and it was warmed up in less than 1 or 2 mins. As I left the gentlemen who had greeted me said goodbye. As for the croissant itself, it was okay. It was lacking a lot of the "chocolate" aspect that I long for when ordering this pastry. The location is less than a 3 min walk from the Lorimer L stop which is convenient, so if you're just in a quick rush this place would do. read more

I stumbled upon this bakery and had to go in--so glad I did. They have a nice selection of pastries and cookies. I got to meet the lovely baker and chatted with her about the famous panettone and the beautiful land of Sicily, which made the visit even more special. I was sucked in by social media and my love of Italian rainbow cookies, unfortunately I was disappointed. I finally procured the viral rainbow cookie pannetone. It comes in a truly beautiful blue box with Velcro and gold ribbon, and the cookies decorating the top were not stale and exactly what I was hoping for but the pannetone bread itself was a bit dry and I was not a fan of their inside glops of jam in the middle - it would be better mixed in with the layers of bread imo if possible more in mirroring the cookie layers. For the price I would never again, and I ended up taking it into work to let my frat bro work crew who will eat anything finish it off because it didn't hit at my house at all unfortunately. read more

Absolutely not what I expected or wanted to happen, but what I paid for and what I received was sadly not worth it. The service I received was lovely and it's clearly a very efficiently run bakery, but my cake was just not good. I finally decided to order their famous rainbow panettone, that I've been wanting to try after especially since it has been all over Instagram the last couple years. I love panettone, and rainbow cookies are my favorite cookies, so clearly a match made in heaven? The rainbow panettone tasted like neither rainbow cookies nor like panettone and I've had more than my fair share of both desserts. It was more of a fluffy bland cake with old rainbow cookies stuck on top. I appreciate that they tried to incorporate the jam that is in rainbow cookies into the panettone. For fifty dollars it should be significantly better quality. The presentation of the rainbow panettone was beautiful. The box it comes is great quality and the cake does look appetizing. It's just a shame that something so expensive doesn't taste good. read more

It's Panettone time! In my home, Panettone season starts after Thanksgiving. That weekend while we put up the Christmas tree, I'll make a pot of coffee and tear into a Panettone. Last year I bought one from Italy, it was over one hundred bucks after shipping. I can see my grandfather laughing at me: look at Mr big shot! It's time to make a change this year. There has to be a New York bakery that makes some outrageous Panettone. I start searching and all roads lead to Settepani Bakery. I'm reading online, Settepani bakery has been a staple in Williamsburg for over 30 years. A family business that has their children involved. Speaking from experience, Italians in business view their children as built in employees. My dad had me working in his supermarket at 15. Summer break? Ha! Now you're reading this and probably saying: Bill S, just go to any Uncle Giuseppe's on Long Island and pick up a Panettone? Why all the fuss? Because those "walls" of boxed Panettone on display aren't freshly baked! Just like wonder bread in the bag, it's not what I grew up with as a kid. I want fresh Panettone, it's my grown up Christmas wish. Walking into Settepani Bakery, I see three people to the far left boxing up fresh Panettone. Looking around there are lots of panettone holiday flavors like pumpkin and pistachio. Settepani bakery is famous for their Nutella panettone, mmm mm! I'm all set to order a classic panettone but I see a Chocolate panettone?! A thick layer of chocolate with chocolate cake. Did I just describe heaven? I also grabbed a small pistachio panettone. Silky pistachio cream in a panettone, I never had this flavor in Panettone. Wow! Right now I'm watching the Thanksgiving day parade, drinking a cuppa coffee and enjoying delicious chocolate panettone from Settepani Bakery. I can't wait to return! read more

I really don't like writing reviews like this but I spent $20 on 3 desserts and they were not good. The chocolate cookies and crème cake and the vanilla Swiss roll were so dry. The sponge was dry and something about it tasted like freezer burn. The icing wasn't too sweet which was nice but overall I was unimpressed. The pistachio cake was a little better but I can't tell if the pistachio flavor is just from the ground nuts or if there's an extract cause it tastes a little over powering. All in all I honestly have never really seen the appeal of some Italian bakery goods. The sponge to me is usually fairly bland and the cookies a bit on the dry side but outside of that, this did not taste good. They looked pretty but that was it. I really hope they put more time and care into their sponges as they do the nice fillings and pretty icing and toppings. read more

First went to the Settepani at the Time Out Market, then the Williamsburg location. Both times in search of the viral rainbow cookie croissant! Successfully snagged it at the Time Out Market, but unfortunately there weren't any when I stopped into the Williamsburg location on my second visit. Scratched the itch with rainbow cookies which were delicious. Bilena and her father were so personable and friendly! You could tell this is a family business that really cares about their customers. On my second visit to the Williamsburg location, I got my rainbow cookie croissant once again. Now I'm planning on trying their rainbow cookie panettone. Cute little bakery close to the Metropolitan stop. Came by on a Saturday morning to try their Cookie Croissant. It was delicious and huge! The edges of the cookie were crispy but the inside of the pastry was gooey. The lady who helped me was super kind and it was a quick in and out of the shop. Contacted Goldbelly for help but still waiting on resolution. Beware the brownies! They are dry! There are zero nuts, unless you consider a sprinkling of powdered nuts on top. There is a thick layer of goo (fudge?) on the top! They are advertised as 8x8x3, reality 4x2x1. You've been warned..goodbye & good luck should you choose to try them. read more

service: 5/5 food: 1/5 i'm so disappointed! i was walking across the street on lorimer on a cold cold 17degree evening when i spotted the brightly lit settpani! for some reason i was so compelled to stop in - what a mistake that was. as soon as i walked in i spotted these cute little individual cakes on display and after a quick look, with the help of the cashier, debating between the hazelnut mousse and chocolate fudge, i purchased the chocolate fudge and carrot cake. i was so excited to get home and dig in! the carrot cake was for my bf and the chocolate fudge for me, a yugggeee chocolate fan. i took one bite and wow, i have never been more disgusted with a chocolate cake in my whole entire life. the "sponge" cake was dry af, as if it'd been sitting out, uncovered for a minimum of 3 days. the frosting tasted like it was fresh out of a pillsbury supermarket frosting container - thick and waaay too sweet. Loveeeeee this place! From the first time I went, Bilena was so sweet and helpful with her service and I've been going back at least once a week since. They have so many fresh baked options but their specialty, the panettones, is the best part. I also had a cake made for a birthday and it was exactly what I wanted. After seeing their rainbow panettone on social media I convinced my husband to go to Brooklyn to pick one up and some cookies for our families Thanksgiving celebration. And needless to say it was a HIT! Everyone wanted more after trying a small slice. Layer of rainbow cookies on top coated with chocolate with jelly inside, each bite was so fresh and scrumptious! We went back this wkend to pick up four for the holiday. There was a mix up and my order wasn't ready when I arrived, so I had an opportunity to chat with the people working there and they were beyond nice! So happy to support their business. Came here for the rainbow cookie croissant and it simply blew me and my fiancée away. Was worried that it was going to be extremely sweet but it was the furthest thing from that. The balance of flavors is something only a professional pastry chef could do. The chocolate was so rich and of high quality. And the jam inside was delicious. Being first generation Sicilians and already having beloved bakeries of ours we're extremely critical on trying new places but I can't wait to come back and try more stuff. $25 for a last minute birthday chocolate mousse cake for our coworker. My coworker went inside, and said there was no ventilation, never mind AC on at all. That was a little concerning to me since it's the end of July, and we're buying a refrigerated food item. You get what you pay for, I guess? The cake was very tasty and moist. They wrote our coworker's name on the cake beautifully. It was good, but I don't think this would be a place i would RAN too, especially if it was a family member or someone special. I ordered their Nutella Panettone from Goldbelly. I was planning to use it as one of he desserts on Christmas Eve. I am glad I decide to try it ahead of time. I can't believe that this was rated as highly as it was. What I received is nothing like what a traditional panettone should be which is moist and light. It was very dry and had no taste. Even the Nutella was not very creamy. I would have reviewed it on Goldbelly but could not find a way to do so. I think I now know why. Not recommended at all for $69.
