Gracie's, to me, was just mediocre. I went for lunch a while back and I liked the strawberry lemonade, the service, and the atmosphere sitting outside, but it was way too expensive for what you get. The bbq was dry and wasn't very flavorful. I definitely needed to add more of their bbq sauce. I guess I would try it again if I REALLY felt like eating bbq and was not in the mood for cooking it myself. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I saw a drug deal taking place in the private parking lot. My husband and I catered Gracie's for a large 30+ family BBQ. The customer service and food were amazing. We ordered two family feasts and an extra 1/2 pan of hot links. When I got on to review this place I had to scroll down to see why on earth someone would give it fewer than 5 stars. Everything I read has led me to believe that the majority of people who don't think this place is awesome shouldn't be reviewing (vegan) or are not reviewing the food or the place (minus one star for being out of the lemonade? come on...) Chicken and ribs fell of the bone---delicious! The potato sald was sort of a German style and had an interesting flavor that grew on you. The cornbread was o.k., and a bit dry. If only they would offer soft breadrolls...Overall, though I loved the BBQ sauce---it was perfectly balanced without too much vinegar or too much sweet stuff. The meat didn't have an overbearing smokiness, nor were there "dirty grill" remnants. You know what I'm talking about! Other than the occassional prostitute strolling by, the ambiance was pretty nice here. Loved all the vintage Texan decor inside. My favorite thing on the menu is the Arnold Palmer (fresh ice tea and lemonade). Not to shade the food, because the food is amazingly fresh. I've had lunch and dinner on two other occasions. My favorite is the Tri-Tip sandwich. On this past visit over all experience was good. I had dinner there on a Thursday night, it was pretty steady for just one gall seating you and serving you, she was great! I didn't catch her name, but she was very polite. Gracie's is A-OK, especially considering the limited number of choices for barbecue in Vallejo. I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. Their ribs and brisket are okay. I loved their links, cornbread, and sides. Also, I was sorely disappointed to find out that they did not have a hot version of their barbecue sauce. The service is also very good and they keep the place very clean. The restaurant is spacious and has a fairly roomy outdoor seating area. Again, the most important factor - the quality and taste of their barbecue - just did not knock my socks off. If you're craving for regular barbecue (and you don't insist on hot barbecue sauce) Gracie's should do just fine. But if you are a BBQ snob who will only eat great BBQ, you might want to keep looking (and you must go outside of Vallejo). read more

Just visited this place back for a second time since we first moved to Vallejo. I have to say, for some reason our server kept giving us the cold shoulder and never smiled, even though we were being very polite. We had just asked for some suggestions on what was really good and it just seemed like this person was a bit annoyed to give us help. Through out our dining in fact, any attempt we made to be polite or friendly, we couldn't get a simple smile or a few words to make us feel welcome. We still left a 15% tip and even after getting our check back, there was no thank you for coming in. We finally said good night when we left, and that waiter only said goodbye back, again not smiling or looking our way. The food we got BTW was the Louisiana Hot link which was only mildly spicy but still good and hubby's tri tip which was unfortunately, very dry and lacked any flavor. The potato salad that we had gotten before was still pretty good and I recommend that as a side. I was just overall, sadly disappointed that we ended up getting such a cold server, and we're extremely friendly people. The service could really use some improvement as could them posting up accurate hours. We found out that they ARE in fact OPEN on Sundays. Whoever wrote that needs to UPDATE the hours and days. The restaurant does have a yelp sticker so I'm sure their aware that people are likely to go to this site to find restaurants, and unless they make sure their hours and info are listed CORRECTLY here, they will not get as much business as they should. read more

I ordered the pit masters plate for 30 bucks it was probably some of the worst bbq I've ever tried. The tri tip was dry as hell, the ribs tastes like fish as if they were expired or some s***, the chicken didn't have no flavor and the brisket was dry also had to drench in bbq sauce. I would say the only reason I'm giving it one star is because the scallops were alright and the corn bread was alright. A bit more expensive then other breakfast places in town but the place is nice (despite the menus being a bit ragged around the edges) and the waitress was friendly. The 10% discount for yelpers helped get me in the door and once in the smells from the kitchen kept me glued to my seat. The walls inside are painted a sunny color that my wife the painter informs me is called 'Goldenrod or Marigold.' In any case it works with the nuetral grey flooring and white trim. it's well lit but not overly bright. I ordered the special for the day, a roasted chicken omelet with spinach and fresh tomato, and the lady ordered biscuits and gravy and a side of sweet potato fries. I substituted fench toast instead of regular toast which added $2.50 to my plate. The food arrived surprisingly fast and was really really good. The hashbrowns were light and perfectly cooked, the french toast was exactly what I'd been after, and my omelet was dead on amazing. The sweet potato fries were also really good - light and crisp on the edges but soft and sweet inside. I didn't try the lady's biscuits and gravy but she said those were great too. I just found this hidden Vallejo BBQ joint. Overall not bad. The red beans and rice was excellent, the corn was too buttery for my taste. The corn bread really needs improvement, as it was pretty bland and a little dry. The chicken was fine, all dark meat which I really prefer anyway. I think that they need to hand out some kind of wet wipe since this type of food is messy. The portions were generous. I would really give this place 3 stars for the food, however the server (Samantha), makes me give an extra star for her top-notch service. She was very accomodating, friendly and fast. I watched as she even helped an old lady, who was using a walker and was taking her food to go, out to her car. People like this really help bring customers back, and I hope that businesses appreciate them and reward them accordingly. read more

I heard about this place years ago but recently visited the place and was pretty impressed by the food. I've lived in Vallejo most of my life and to be honest, there's not many good places to eat around there. Gracies is a pleasant surprise that serves good food and good dessert. I admit it was a lil pricey but I think the food was definitely worth it. My half order of tri tip, beans and corn bread was delish and just the right portion. For dessert my bf and I split their apple pie with brown sugar crumblings, drizzled with caramel and it was oh-so-very tasty. For the price ( 3.95 i think) you get a mini pie and had so much left over we were able to take it home They also serve their drinks in mason jars which is pretty cool. The location sucks, as there is always some kind of construction. The parking is limited, if not closed off, so be prepared to walk. Overall, the restaurant was clean, quirky, and has a nice outdoor patio. I gave 4 stars considering it's in Vallejo and one of the few good places the city has to offer to eat. read more

Wow on so many levels. Wow on the portions, they were large -- even the drinks. Wow on the prices -- they were inexpensive, at least relatively to some other top-notch BBQ places. And wow on the food, it was fantastic. We had: - Smoked chicken legs and tri-tip combination plate, with cornbread, rice/beans and coleslaw ($15.95) - Mini Cobb Salad ($4.95) - Sweet Tea ($2.50) All of them were awesome, and plenty to split with two people (we had leftovers). The chicken was red in the middle. Tasted fine and no stomach problems later, but I would have felt better had it been cooked through. The ribs that came with the dinner tasted delicious and the portions were more than fair, but they also seemed a bit rare. It didn't affect the taste and dinner was good, but I came away thinking that this is a good place to go if I don't feel like driving to a good BBQ place. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, but she wasn't overly concerned about us having a great dining experience. I am still a big fan and love the food but I cannot stand behind a 5 star review at this point. The taste is great and I still encourage people to go but lately (more than a handful of occasions) I have noticed some issues. The weekend service (Sundays more specifically) is really falling short. Waiting or not receiving refills, having to ask for most or all condiments and then waiting yet again for the bill, or just giving up and walking right the the register. Another issue that is becoming more consistent is how UN-consistent the portion sizes are. One day you will receive a huge order. Next time when you are super hungry it will be 2/3 or less the size. Been eating at Gracie's Family BBQ for a while. My recent visit was with a few friends after playing a music job at the local high school. Location: Parking on the side of the restaurant or on the street if you can find it. I prefer the street parking. In an older neighborhood and in general things are safe. Service: Good service when we came. You can see the kitchen in plain view from the cashiers area as soon as you walk in. Wait staff is friendly, seat you as soon as possible (usually within a few minutes if seats are availabe) or they will point you to sections of places to take your own seat. Menus come out and a few minutes later you place your order. Note -- many people place orders to go, pick up and leave. Many phone orders as well. Food: I keep coming back for food for friends, out of towners, with family...it's pretty good. The meat (ribs, brisket and chicken) usually are falling off the bone and have good flavor. Sometimes the chicken can be dry -- other times...nice and moist. The hotlinks are super -- love those. They have separate bottles of BBQ sauce that I add onto the meat. They also have a great corn bread that I love to spread butter and the bottled honey on. I'd just come for the cornbread at times! There is a compliment of red beans and rice, green beans and other "extras" that make it worthwhile. All tasty. Price is about right for what we usually get which is a lot of meat and a lot of sides. Came here last night to celebrate my boyfriend getting a new job. This place never fails to keep me happy! We both got their trip tip sandwich. SO GOOD. And their BBQ sauce is to die for! Also got sides of corn chowder and mac n cheese. I probably could've drank a whole bowl of that soup.. Can't wait to go back and get more. BF thought his mac n cheese was decent. So this was my first trip to Gracies and we went at 8pm on a Saturday night. There were 2 other tables occupied so kinda slow. They were out of tri-tip, darn, wanted that. So had baby back ribs & chicken. The chicken was phenomenal, I am talking near perfect. The ribs were dry-rubbed but just slightly overcooked. I don't like the rub burnt but it peeled off easily enough. The flavor rocked. The sauce they put in the bottle on the table made the dinner. It's a sweet/tangy BBQ sauce with no bite but oh so addicting. I had to have it on every bite. The sides were a different story. Who puts raisins in coleslaw? It was also dry and I really prefer a coleslaw with more juice in it. Let's face it, does anyone do coleslaw better than KFC? (can't believe I said that) The potato salad was eh, ok. Nothing to write home about. RE: the sweet tea, the first glass was almost too sweet. The 2nd was about right. Maybe I got the bottom of a pitcher for the 1st glass. I suspect had I had the tri-tip I'd have been on cloud 9; next time. The restaurant was very clean and the staff very friendly. I'll be back. Oh, and open till 11pm with takeout. We were out shopping in Vallejo, and my bf heard lots of good things about this place. It was his second time, and my first. His first time there he tried the tri tip sandwich which he said was tasty. We ordered the sampler platter which includes, ribs, chicken, hot links, corn bread, and all the sides, mac salad, potato salad, green beans, cole slaw, and red beans and rice. The ribs were tasty and fall of the bone just like we like them. The bbq sauce which is located on the table was yummy. The chicken was juicy, but a little red in the middle as others have mentioned. The hot links weren't great, they were just mediocre.They weren't very spicy, nor very flavorful. Corn bread was just corn bread to me. The platter was $34 and it was well worth the money for what you get. It feeds 2-3 people maybe even 4 if they're not big eaters. After a long days spent at Six Flags with no food, we went here to satisfy our BBQ craving. It's located on a corner and looks as if it were built from a house. The dining area is very homey, yet still resembling a restaurant. There were two compartments one the inside of the home itself turned into a restaurant, the other, the backyard. The food was wonderful, very tender meats & the teas are excellent. I recommend the ribs definitely. The crossiant sandwiches were also on point! I shared two entrees btwn two people and was stuffed! And we had leftovers! And I usually eat a lot! So for sure one entree will fill you up. Each entree comes with two sides and there are a large variety of sides available - the green beans, thumbs up. Last but not least the service was extremely friendly. The waiter helped us choose our sides and explained each order very specifically and was very patient. Overall a very nice restaurant. If you've got a craving for good tasting BBQ flavor when you're in Vallejo, then this is the spot. Been here a few times and have tried the tri-tip sandwich, the rib and chicken combo, and also the hot link and chicken combo. The tri tip sandwich is very good. The rib combo is pricey and the rib portion is kind of small. The hot links and chicken combo is a great value - I had the full order and had to take it home due to the large portions. The link and chicken combo gets you two leg quarters and two or three links and comes with your choice of two sides, and a slice of cornbread. Price is $13.95. Also, if you're not aware... smoked meats should have a "smoke ring". This causes a bright pink color in chicken, pork and turkey. You can also see a smoke ring in beef. Three large pieces of falling-off-the-bone-it's-so-tender chicken with sweet tangy sauce on the side, 2 large sides (except if you're getting takeout, then they shrink to fit the wells in the styro container) and cornbread with chunks of corn falling out of it... The coleslaw is magical - someone earlier chastised them for putting raisins in it, which may be a mistake, they usually use dried cranberries and chunks of apple. The red beans and rice are also sublime - rich, juicy, stick to your ribs....the bomb! My only complaint is their water - use a filter, please, it and the ice in beverages taste like chlorox bleach! read more

Oh My Goodness! This place was GREAT! My family and I just moved to the Vallejo area about six months ago and we were looking for a good meal tonight. We were originally going to get Chinese food, but this place caught my eye on Yelp. When we checked the menu, it looked better so we went there. NOT DISAPPOINTED! My husband got the hot link and baby back rib combo platter with Green beans, corn bread and beans and rice. I got the Baby back ribs and chicken combo platter with mac and cheese, corn bread and macaroni salad. We both got their sweet tea in mason jars. The meat was all so juicy and tender. There was not much sauce, but we poured some from the bottle on the table onto out meat and it was delicious. I have not had ribs that good in a long time!
