Whenever I don't feel like frying fish at home, I come here. I enjoy the quick service and the fish selection. I usually order the large snapper, whiting combo that comes with delicious fries. When you order, make sure that you request how firm you want your fish fried. Otherwise, you end up with hard fried. I always request my fish to be fried medium.

Catfish was so delicious, fries too. Chicken wings didn't taste fresh. Would order catfish and fries again.

They've revamped the place since I've last been here. Looking much newer inside but the food is still the same and good as it was. Some great seafood at this place and the chicken is good as well. I've tried different sides every time I've gone and those desserts... don't get me started now. Ive tried almost all of it and I can't choose a favorite. Catfish nuggets, fillets, shrimp, crab cakes, wings, livers and gizzards, you want it, they'll fry it. Just a tip if you're ordering it to go, ask for them not to wrap it in the paper bag and poke some holes on the top of the boxes. Food comes fresh from the fryer so if you want everything to stay crispy til you get home, poke holes to let that steam out so your food doesn't get soggy. A tip for all places but here especially.

    Fried Oyster

My first time here and I called to place an order. I asked how many pieces the deep fried oyster comes with and I was told the large order comes with 7 pieces. When I came home and opened the to go box, there was only 6 pieces and wasn't sure if they misinformed me. I basically paid $19.06 for 6 pieces of oyster and it wasn't worth the price. The deep fried oyster had too much batter but it was crunchy and flavorful. Other than that, it was just ok.

    Overcooked party wings.

Every time I come here, they overcook my food. I always tell them to please don't overcook my chicken, and when I get home, I'm always disappointed to the point I through my food away. I won't be going there anymore.

Strawberries and cream cake which was dry AF. U see how the outer part is A different color from the inside of the cake.

Jjs is pretty good. They give you huge plates and portions. Extra fish and fries. Desserts are good too. Just wish it was in a better area.

Fish orders were good but the chicken gizzards were over-cooked and tough and we couldn't eat them, so that was disappointing.

Whenever we want to treat ourselves, this is where we go. Our go-to favorites are the oyster po' boy, brisket po' boy, gumbo, jambalaya, and the seafood platter--but honestly, everything is good, trust me. I've tried almost everything on their menu. Owners, Danny and Naomi, are doing it right! Danny works his magic in the kitchen while Naomi welcomes everyone with a smile at the window. Great food is one thing, but it's the combination of incredible flavors and genuine hospitality that keeps us coming back. We've recommended The Workshop to just about everyone we know. Today we brought my Auntie and Uncle and my uncle originally from New Orleans was impressed! I sat there excited to see his reaction to every bite! Well, they ordered more food to take home with them for dinner and Danny and Naomi were so kind to gift them their homemade cajun seasoning blend! And what I learned, there is a tradition in New Orleans to "give something extra" at no charge as a gesture of generosity and appreciation- well, there you have it, we just got lagniapped!! I love them even more!!! If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and go. This is one of Benicia's true gems.

No complaints though--it made for a relaxed meal and the service was attentive. I ordered the fried chicken and beignets with gravy, and it was excellent. I'm usually someone who prefers bone-in fried chicken, but this version won me over. The chicken was juicy with perfectly seasoned, crispy breading, and the savory gravy paired surprisingly well with the beignets. Everything on the plate complemented each other without feeling too heavy. The only miss for me was the orange juice--it was pretty forgettable. But honestly, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. I'd happily come back for the fried chicken.

I love the New Orleans food scene and therefore had a pretty high bar for Cajun food outside of Louisiana. I came in a little hesitant because I've been disappointed too many times by the options we have in the bay for Cajun food. But after I opened the box and took my first bite of that blackened shrimp Po Boy I could've sworn I thought I was sitting in the French Quarter again. The nice young lady that took my order recommended the blackened shrimp as an underrated choice on the po boys so I had to try it out. I came stuffed with a Red wine coleslaw, tomatoes, pickle slices and a drizzle of their special sauce (that I can only describe as spicy cajun mayo). 12/10 and I'm not exaggerating I also had a side (and when I say side take it with a grain of salt cause this feeds like 3 people for being a side) of the fresh Crab fries. Not overdone with the ingredients yet what a powerful hit of flavor, the Cajun seasoning usually comes out a bit salty on fries but these guys figured out how to balance it with the fresh shredded crab on top, garnished off with some green onion and more special sauce, this thing made me look around the room to see if anyone else was reacting like this over the food. (And they were! People were sitting there talking about "last time I tried ___ and ___ and it was fire") In the end I saw a guy that looked very proud to be there and was helping around the place while running back to his computer, that was Brett, the owner. I had to go and shake the man's hand and pick his mind a bit. He's a born and raised in New Orleans guy and you could tell by his kindness and southern hospitality. (Dude gave me a delicious carrot cake to go) Unfortunately in the end I had to walk back out into the reminder that I was in Castro valley and not New Orleans but for minute I was able to remember everything that had previously experienced from my trips there and that's what a great meal should do for you. His city should be proud of what he created here. I will absolutely be back to work my way through the full menu and add more pics to this review.

We ordered the Cajun crab fries and the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was the standout. It was crispy, well-seasoned, juicy, and full of flavor. I'd happily order it again. The Cajun crab fries started off really good, but as we dug deeper, they became overwhelmingly salty. It seemed like the Cajun seasoning was layered heavily throughout, and unfortunately I couldn't finish them because of it. I'm leaving one star off for the fries, but overall I enjoyed the experience and would definitely come back to try more of the menu.

I know that a lot of people reading this review are looking for a comparison between the restaurants. Usually, others are split on this opinion when I mention it. So here's my why. The seafood menu selection is the same as most crab boil spots. I ordered the deveined/headless shrimp on my last visit. The spicy sauce was def spicy! Shrimp was cooked perfectly, not overcooked like I've had at other places. They give a generous portion of sauce, which is necessary to pour over some white rice! The appetizer selection at Cajun Crack'n is elite! The fried oysters are my favorite! I've also had the wings, fried mozzarella and Crawfish fried rice. All delicious choices! The combo had a nice variety with shrimp, crab legs, sausage, corn, potatoes, and egg, and everything was cooked well. The house special sauce was buttery, garlicky, flavorful, and the medium spice level had just the right amount of heat without being too much. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the sauce was a little on the salty side. It was still delicious, but after a while the saltiness started to stand out. If they dialed that back just a bit, it'd be even better. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Good portions, great flavor, and a solid spot when you're craving a seafood boil.

After the food came I decided to try the watermelon lemonade and that was a solid decision. Not too sweet, really refreshing. For dessert we grabbed the Peach Cobbler out of the display case.
