It had been like a decade since the last time I was here. I was looking for fish in a non meat Friday and when this popped up, I remember coming here a lot back in the day. Great service and lots of to go orders. Very large portions and everything cooked to order when you get there and fish comes out pipping hot. I ordered a small fish plate and they have a lot of different options of the type of fish. Usually you just get whatever fish they have and then other seafood options like oysters, shrimp or whatever. They had snapper, tilapia, catfish and other fish. I like the taste of catfish but some people don't the guy at counter said that they have regular catfish or a variety called Saba which is a type of catfish just not as "muddy", it is that earthly taste that some people don't like with catfish. I ordered the Saba and wow!!that was buttery and soft, perfectly cooked inside, he was right about that type of catfish. I prefer my fried fish with a crispier crust but I will definitely come back here, the fries where good and service was excellent. read more

Jjs is pretty good. They give you huge plates and portions. Extra fish and fries. Desserts are good too. Just wish it was in a better area.

Whenever I don't feel like frying fish at home, I come here. I enjoy the quick service and the fish selection. I usually order the large snapper,whiting combo that comes with delicious fries. When you order, make sure that you request how firm you want your fish fried. Otherwise, you end up with hard fried. I always request my fish to be fried medium. read more

Visiting home turf for the weekend had to stop into a bay area staple these last umpteenth years. Don't think many chose to eat inside restaurant due to maybe sometime sketchy area and usually order to go. Service was good and on point .Ordered simple didn't think I was hungry (later regret). 10 chicken n fries oh boy was it fried to perfection seasoned on point. I've been to another JJ fish and chicken in the past and wasn't impressed. But this one in Vallejo is great! It's quite pricey but the fish was well done and the garlic crab was delicious. We had to wait for 30 mins as they cook everything fresh but the wait was all worth it. I enjoyed the catfish in the Bas-a They fry it on the spot pretty fresh. I haven't had a bad meal there if I get takeout, this is one of my go to spots. Customer service is good. I personally would not sit and eat inside of there, but it appears to be clean. read more

On 7/28 I ordered a 50 piece chicken wings for my husband's 70th surprise birthday to be picked up on 7/30. I forgot to pick them up. JJ's didn't call me or anything, my fault. I hadn't been to JJ's in many years. Went by the other night. Ordered catfish and fries. Cook on the catfish was good. Golden outside while moist inside. Fries were where I like my fries, a little crunchy. The ONE thing I did not like was there was WAY to MUCH SALT on everything. I ate 1 piece of the 3 in the order and a few fries. Couldn't eat any more salt. I will try again and ask for not extra salt sprinkles. I think there is plenty in the corn meal coating. read more

They've revamped the place since I've last been here. Looking much newer inside but the food is still the same and good as it was. Some great seafood at this place and the chicken is good as well. I've tried different sides every time I've gone and those desserts... don't get me started now. Ive tried almost all of it and I can't choose a favorite. Catfish nuggets, fillets, shrimp, crab cakes, wings, livers and gizzards, you want it, they'll fry it. Just a tip if you're ordering it to go, ask for them not to wrap it in the paper bag and poke some holes on the top of the boxes. Food comes fresh from the fryer so if you want everything to stay crispy til you get home, poke holes to let that steam out so your food doesn't get soggy. My first time here and I called to place an order. I asked how many pieces the deep fried oyster comes with and I was told the large order comes with 7 pieces. When I came home and opened the to go box, there was only 6 pieces and wasn't sure if they misinformed me. I basically paid $19.06 for 6 pieces of oyster and it wasn't worth the price. Every time I order food from their food is amazing but desert..... Gross and rudely AF. Like idk if they giving me the old cake but I got the strawberries and cream cake from there just tonight a few minutes ago and it is super dry and the outside cake is a different color pink from the inside cake which obviously shows that it's probably an old cake and not fresh. I would say yes food is good but dessert is a fail unless you ask for a fresh one which is what I would do in the next time. I would ask for a desert more closer to the glass verses closes to what the worker grabs. FYI read more

Fish orders were good but the chicken gizzards were over-cooked and tough and we couldn't eat them, so that was disappointing.

We have never had a problem with Any jj fish and have never returned anything. Tonight is a different story. We ordered a large catfish and a large shrimp. We picked it up and got it home and the shrimp was overcooked, darker than me and rubbery. We called and the manager said she would reccoe-cook the entire order which we really appreciated. We live about 15 minutes away. We arrived and the food had not even been started. So on top of getting poor quality food and having to waste our time and gas going back, we had to wait for them to cook it. There were a set of twins working along with a guy cooking and on his cell phone at the same time. One of the twins had an attitude when we brought the food back, but the other was the manager on duty and apologized. Much nicer demeanor. At no point while we were there was ANYONE behind the counter or cooking our food wearing a mask. The sign on the door states masks are required, bit the employees dealing with our food were wearing one? Very disappointing and obviously with different staffing than normal. No discount was offered and anything for our inconvenience. Placed our order at 6:52pm. We are just getting home to eat at almost 9pm. Do better please. read more

Came here as I didn't feel like cooking and bought the Whiting Fish and fries! Unfortunately I was very disappointed as the fish was not very fresh. In addition the oil appeared to be old and made the fish taste greasy and unappetizing. I tell you I should have known as I pledged not to go to any JJs after a bad experience in Fairfield some months ago. It was so bad that I threw my entire order in the trash! What a waste. Excellent fried chicken and fried fish! Their chicken wings are huge and they're cooked to perfection! I ordered a pan of 100 wings for a picnic - they were delicious! You can order ahead on GrubHub then pick up your order when ready - very convenient. I also used GrubHub via the Yelp app to order food for delivery to a friend. It worked out nicely. I have been coming to this location for years and it was always on point. I love Buffalo fish, and when no one has it, they always have it for sale. I am surely disappointed tonight. I drove all the way from Fairfield to Vallejo to order 5 Catfish dinners, and 1 Buffalo fish dinner. Come to find out when i got home they gave me Basa which is not even on the menu online and the Buffalo was cooked to a crisp and not fresh at all. I started calling at 1020 pm in which they never answered the phone. I will not return to this location. I believe they are selling Basa as Catfish because is cheaper. Buyer Be Ware. JJ's is THE spot for some damn delicious fried chicken and fish. The Chicago business had humble beginnings in 1982 and was founded by James J. Green. There are now over 130 locations in the US. When I worked at KP Vallejo, our weekend crew used to treat ourselves to huge trays of the chicken wings, fish and fries for special events. It was bomb. Finger lickin' delicious! The portions were huge, wings were hot, crispy, juicy with the right amount of flavor. The catfish was also delightful and am getting hungry just thinking about it. Highly recommend getting a variety of chicken and fish to share with family or friends, although several times I had ordered my own personal meal and devoured it in secret. Don't judge me. Prices are affordable and staff are nice. Ambiance can use a little work but it's mainly takeout (even pre-pandemic) so not too mad at it. read more

A staple in our household. Old staff was usually pretty friendly but cuz I creep on the late night, it's understandable when things are winding down after a long day, the energy is not there. Warning they might not answer phone orders after a certain time, but the wait is never too long. There's also new staff but they are just getting to know my go-to's. No real complaints there as the fry is just as good as before. Chicken wings never disappoint! But the star here is the Snapper, Ocean Perch, Sole, and Whiting, in that order. My fam never really hit on the catfish though I had it before - it's just not what we were raised on (freshwater fish). Lately been messing with the shrimp pasta plate and shrimp rice bowl (warning may be heavy on the EVOO) so get some crusty bread to slop up some of that sauce. I usually will have it with some Costco baguette I have on hand for these situations; mix it with balsamic on the side, it's Fire! Waste not, want not I always say! you don't understand , i wanted to like this place but it was terrible. it will not let me up load the pictures but 1. fish and chips,, need a simple good outside this was terrible , i threw away the food into the compost i did not want to eat it 2. it is not a very nice place next to a convience story but it has an okay patio and chairs out side, seemed ok in the sun,, but it is locked and the manager has the key and is not there. My mom was craving okra so I looked up on Yelp for fried okra on a weeknight and JJ Fish & Chicken came in clutch. I placed a call, took a few minutes for them to answer, ordered then went to go pick it up. Located off of Fairgrounds Drive in Vallejo, connected to a gas station. This spot has been open for years and they have really good fried chicken! We used to order from here years ago for parties and events. Quality is still good and glad to see this place still in business. It looks like they have door dash, and you can order via Yelp through Grub hub. First time eating here. I knew it was going to be a gamble based on the reviews. If you are looking for a cheat meal or comfort food, the flavor does not lack here. The cat fish was yummy! Gumbo was a bit salty for me but was full of flavor and seafood and even crab leg. Fries were good. Collard greens was a bit salty but they usually are. I gave 4 stars because I am just sensitive to salt but I feel like for a average or normal person(lol) the food would be pretty tasty. Customer service was great and restaurant was clean.
