My sister and I finally made it to Soultran's Seafood. We had heard so many great things about this place we had to go. We pull up and the parking lot is completely full even some car making there own parking spaces lol. We parked about 2 blocks down in a neighborhood hood since all the side street parking was all taken. I knew this place was the right choice and was going to be a hit! We walked in and there is a line to pick your food. This is basically a seafood market and they will cook what you pick if you want. The additional cooking fee is $3.00 per pound. I ordered my food to be cooked I was hangry and left with a triple wide big back. My seafood I picked was Alligator, Baby octopus, Basa, Catfish, Jumbo Lobster Tail, Jumbo Tiger prawns, Sea Scallops, and Oysters. I also ordered a bottle of Kim's Crack Sauce. My total damage with cooking fee was $130 it was well worth the price with the amount of food and the seafood per pound is great! I was told it was an hour wait for my food to be cooked and I was totally fine with it. Less than an hour later my food is done and I am handed 2 giant shopping bags full of food and head home. My food was still warm after driving 1.5 hrs home. I dig into the bags and when I tell you they cooked everything to pure perfection and seasoned properly they did their big one. You can also request you food to be fried hard if you want. I will definitely be back. I want to try other seafood items. There is no dining area to sit and eat Soultran's is strictly order to go. read more

Tran's is a Vallejo icon. Soultran's for the uninitiated and just Tran's for those who know. They can be pricey but they're consistent in quality. Your Basa, Snapper, Shrimp needs are handled with care. Parking is an issue if you hit a rush time. Try to get there first thing in the morning so their oil is FRESH in the fryer. Vibe is cool, all walks of life come here. Its like a modern day watering hole for the Serengeti LOL Seriously I always see a few people I know when I randomly show up there. Everytime I come in here the seafood fry is on point! This is a real local gem. Their store accepts food stamps allowing the community to eat if it applies to them. Their prices are fair . I got 1 pound of catfish and 2 pounds of shrimp (fried for me) for the price of $41. A seafood plate with 4 measles shrimp is easily $20. The service is quick and brings you through line with ease. Drove 1.5 hours to see what is this place about. We ordered Dungeness crabs, oysters, cat fish, basa and jumbo prawns. We asked for it to be fried. We waited 45 mins.. oh boy it was worth the wait! The seafood are all fresh ! The seasoning was perfect, it was crunchy and not greasy. Can I just say, that I love the play of words with the name, SoulTrans. For those who know..know. This was my first time here and was happy that my cousin introduced this spot to me. I needed some crab for gumbo but the prices were so expensive everywhere else. The guys there were helpful and fast. Not to mention that I got a great price for a few halves on cleaned Dungeness Crab. SoulTrans reminded me of the neighborhood butcher growing up but with benefits. One of the benefits is you can pick a piece of seafood and they would fry it for you while one waited. Well worth the wait. We've gone here a few times to buy seafood. It's always clean, the food is always tastes fresh. The staff is always pleasant and respectful. I've been waiting to do the 'you buy we fry option' and I'm so glad I did. We got jumbo prawns, basa fish, hush puppies and fried corn. Everything was cooked perfectly. The hush puppies were well flavored and seasoned. Fried corn coated in cheese is definitely an experience to be had. The store portion has everything you could possibly need: batter, sauces, boils, lemons, potatoes, pickles, fruit cobbler batter, candy and more. They even had a TV playing Sunday football. The Mister was happy to watch the Raiders clinch their second win of the season while we waited. They were crowded and it took about 50 min to get our food. September 11, 2026 I called in and placed an order for 1/2 pound of Whiting, 1/2 pound of Red Snapper, 1lb of Jumbo Party Wings, French Fries, and Hush Puppies, what I received was a joke. Neither the 1/2 pound of Whiting nor the 1/2 pound of Red Snapper or the 1lb of Jumbo Party Wings weighed out to the exact 1/2 pound each or the 1 full pound whose actual weight measured at 5 ounces for the Snapper which yielded 4 pieces and 6 ounces of Whiting which yielded 3 pieces not the 8 ounces or 1/2 pound I ordered and the Jumbo Party Wings which only Measured 11 ounces not the full 1 pound as ordered yielding only 6 wings. I ordered on DoorDash and picked it up. Didn't realize it was set up like a fish market, you pick the items you want fried, and then they fry it. I think that makes the taste/flavor so good! I got the catfish nuggets, fried okra, and fries. They're generous with the portions! They had a lot of people working and they seemed busy but my food was ready faster than I thought it would be. This place is unique. We came in after watching a instagrammer post his food while eating on the hood of his car. I saw that he ordered seafood at this market. And then they battered it and fried it. This concept is fun and it makes me feel closer to the seafood. You know? Like this is what seafood looks like before it's cooked. Between my bf and me, we just kept ordering. The service here is pretty good. The workers are really cool and they break down the system for you if you're new to the joint. I came on a Thursday during spring break. Things to know: They open at 10 am but don't start frying until 11 am. It took about 15 minutes to fry my order but can take longer to both order AND fry when you come on the weekends or at busy times. The parking lot is very small and they had construction going at the same time (someone was jack hammering) so it made it even tinier. There's street and neighborhood parking. I could've eaten in my car like all the social media folks but there's plenty of small parks nearby to eat at a table comfortably and not take up parking stalls. If I understand correctly, it's $3 to fry per pound and they don't fry unless what you're ordering is over $5. Please correct me if I'm wrong. The service was PHENOMENAL. I knew what to do because of research but I did let the guy know that it was our first time here. He was patient and kind and recommended yummy items. From start to finish the whole interaction was warm and welcoming. Everything is fried in a thin corneal crust except my colossal shrimp. Not greasy or oily. Nicely seasoned but I bought extra salt. The basa white fish was freaking delicious. Flakey and mild. Probably my favorite bites. Colossal shrimp was not overcooked. Juicy and firm. Soft shell crab was $3 and change per crab. Super crispy and crunchy and yummy. I love soft shell crab and this hit the spot. Scallops were fresh and tender. Very good but I only got one because the twin stopped sharing, hmmph. Dungeness crab was quite a sight to see. Sweet and fresh but difficult to get the meat out. I think I'd still go with the soft shell but my kiddo loves crab so got these for him. Corn was highly recommended by everyone but it wasn't for me. It's fried and done elote style. I love elote but prefer to eat it with fresh juicy corn. Would not get again, but people do praise this. LOVE their garlic butter that they warm up for you. I liked to squeeze more lemon juice in it. Tasted just like Miss Apple's crab shack in cocoa beach Florida. So good and kicking myself for not getting more. Crack sauce was meh. Glad it's an option, love that it has fish sauce, but when you can and know how to make your own, you won't get this. Fresh is best. I drove two hours to get here. I packed salt, hot sauce of choice, lemon, creole seasoning, hot rice, chimi sauce, and utensils. Next time I'd pack something to help crack the crab. My first impression of the seafood display was nice and how they offer frying them after selecting your seafood. Ordered soft shell crabs, jumbo prawns, white cod, catfish and a bag of oysters. Everything was fried in corn meal except the shrimp. It was not as crispy as I expected it to be. Catfish had a muddy taste to it and doesn't taste fresh. We did not enjoy it. White cod fish did not taste fresh also. It was chewy and not crispy at all. It was a disappointment. Wished they fried with tempura batter. Oysters were not that fresh. 7 oysters opened before we grill them. It smelled bad so we had to toss it out. Be sure to look at the harvest date. You'll be in the hood of V-town if you roll through here. Stuff I observed that laid as evidence on where you are at. 1) tasty whiffs of green bud right on the sidewalk/storefront; 2) super tight parking lot that was chaotic as heck; 3) as I parked on the street I saw a truck push another car (inoperable) bumper to bumper through an intersection. LMAO Place is basically a seafood market where you can also get many things for a Soulfood pantry like beans of all types, etouffee and gumbo spice packs, hot sauces galore etc. I was digging it! The seafood cold case is actually pretty impressive tho not laid out to be pretty. If you're used to Whole Food's cold case, you'll be in for rude awakening. Lol. Things are just randomly laid out in piles, some have pricing, some don't. They got a crazy selection of at least 8 fishes, you can pick bones or no bones, lots of shellfish with many different types of skrimps (remember you in da hood), cleaned crabs and even lobster tails and crawfish. They also have chicken parts. Now what makes this place super unique and really draws a crowd is that they'll fry anything that they carry...for a slight upcharge, maybe $2-$3 per item you choose. And when they fry something it'll be coated in a nicely seasoned cornmeal/flour coating. It is light and will impart just a slight crunch, no big crunch that'll ring in your head. Things tried: Perch ($7ish/lb.4*) I wanted to try a fish that you normally don't run into, so I went away from snapper, catfish and salmon, even though they all sounded good. I think I asked for 2-3 pieces but they gave me 2 pounds which is a significant amount. But they cut the small fillets (with skin) in half so when fried you got these nice sized nuggets that curled a bit. I grew up eating perch from fishing off of the Pacifica Pier so it was a nice throwback. I love the texture as it is nice and mild and has a firm yet flaky flesh texture. Fresh Water Prawns ($20ish/lb/4*) These were nice and large and about 2 nice sized bites per prawn. I think they fried these a tad too long as it was getting borderline overcooked and chewy, no significant 'pop'. They were still fine but glad I didn't get anything too expensive like lobster or crab. I think I spent a little over $35ish for the fried seafoods and I had enough food to feed 4-5 people with other sides. So I felt the value was there, which also explains the omnipresent lines here. I also got a cluster of dungeness crab and a small jar of oysters still cold to take home to make a gumbo. Both were good quality except the oysters were some of the largest I've ever seen. I had to cut em, as I'm used to smaller/medium oysters. I think this town is lucky to have such a nice resource. I'd much rather delve in this hood and get something fried than any Asian market that does the same service, but they don't season/coat anything. Closest thing I can get to a traditional You Buy/We Fry fish counter up here in Northern Cali. I grew up in LA and it seems like they are all over SoCal so I was intrigued as soon as I heard about this place. Variety is great and they have all the accoutrements to go with it in the little market. I got a couple soft shell crabs, scallops, oysters and some prawns, all fried damn near perfectly for $3/lb.
