Good BBQ! Have had this bbq a few times at family parties when they cater so I had to hit up the brick and mortar. Just know before you go it's cash only and the only drinks they have is a soda machine so in my opinion it's best as take away. The sliced beef (I think it was tri tip) was very good and tender! The spicy bbq sauce has a great taste and not overly spicy. The bbq chicken was also very tender and had a nice smoke flavor while not being too smokey. The bbq beans on the side were pretty good but you get a tiny portion. I thought the cup that they came in was a side of bbq sauce at first. This plate was around $30. I have never ever ever ever ever been to a barbecue place that did not let you buy the meat à la carte they straight up said no but the options for sides were laughable. They playing in our face and I work to hard and try to support and I get this. Also, ribs are drenched in bbq sauce but they are flavorless. They taste smoked without seasoning. Good ribs don't need sauce, it should be optional. They were very nice but.... They played in my face. I think the barbecue overall was really good. The sauces are really good. I did enjoy the beans and I did enjoy the flavor of the potato salad, but the potato salad was hot and mushy almost like mashed potatoes, which was weird. I don't understand why they wouldn't have remade the potato salad instead of making them mashed but other than that, I would come back, but maybe just to try the hot links in the meat without sides. read more

Yelp has the address wrong. 4380 Sonoma Blvd, Vallejo, CA 94589 I had to call in to ask for the right address. As soon as I saw Autnie at the front counter , I knew the food was about to be GOOD. We ordered 3 combos, Bedf slices and Beef links, chicken , and Ribs. We all made sure to get different sides . I was in Heaven. It was sooooooo bomb. I stole my husband a cornbread and Auntie gave us one more. Then we ordered more potato salad. It was good. The spot is dated BUT what lacks in curb appeal makes up for great food and better service. I have passed by this location so many times and I don't know why I haven't made the effort to try it. This is definitely one of those places that are considered a 'hidden gem'. Firstly, the atmosphere was definitely Very relaxed and chill. It looked like a typical food establishment that you would walk in to and grab your food and go. It wasn't until I noticed the giant barbecue smoker located right outside of the establishment. I knew from there on out I was in for something amazing. Secondly, the service definitely made me feel at home as the staff welcomed my family and I in and the hospitality was so comforting. I honestly felt like I was with family. Last, but not least I would have to say the food here blew my mind. The barbecue and the sides and just everything in general was delicious. I just went yesterday and now I'm gonna go again today because there were items. I didn't even notice because I was so fixated on the smell that emanated throughout the whole restaurant and even to the parking lot. We were asked if we wanted hot, medium, or mild bbq sauce. We chose hot and it was no where near. The entire plate was just sweet sweet sweet. Macaroni salad, potato salad, and baked bbq beans, all tasty but each and every one just sweet. Too much sweet on 1 plate for me. Inside there was 2-3 tables with the chairs up on the tables. The main test of a BBQ place is are the ribs good. Here, the ribs were...not the best. There was a ton of sweet sauce on them that wasn't particularly memorable, but the meat, while well-smoked, was not fall-off-the-bones tender and didn't seem to have much seasoning to make up for the sauce. The sides (mac salad and potato salad) were not good. Took one bite from each and threw them away. I would put Gracie's over CJ's if you're getting BBQ in the area. The service was fine. It is, seemingly permanently, cash only, and do be prepared to wait a bit. The best thing about the place might have been the smoker out in front, wafting the sweet smell of BBQ around the parking lot. read more

Been coming here for a few years...back when it used to be a couple of other bbq joints like Southern Delights...which was also good but didn't quite hit my flavor palate as well as CJ's does. Mind you their sides...could you some work...Potato salad is the best tho!.. I will always come for the rack of pork ribs...best bang for the buck...comes with 3 sides.
