My husband is Chinese and so we come here to get most of our groceries as well as specialty items. On top of being a grocery store, they also have a huge meat and seafood section with fresh seafood and live seafood. They also have a restaurant section where you can get freshly cooked duck as well as restaurant style food. The prices are pretty incredible and they also have dim sum. This is definitely the top market for Asian specialty items and their produce is really nice and fresh. The service is OK. The ambience is lively and busy. read more

I came here for ginger snacks. I wanted the ones in the Chinese wrappers, the ones that are dried soft ginger, but all they had was the soft processed chews candy ginger. I don't like them as they are processed and stick to your teeth. I like the more natural kind. It appears they don't have the Chinese wrapped candies anymore, the ones where the package is mostly in Chinese. It's now all Americanized. For a Thursday afternoon they were quite busy, and the parking lot was full. I found a space to the side, so it wasn't bad. read more

had a very uncomfortable experience at checkout today. Their POS system repeatedly failed to process my card, and instead of clearly explaining the issue, the cashier kept saying "it's over the limit," which was both misleading and unprofessional. My card was not over the limit, and the issue was clearly with the payment terminal or transaction processing, since another card worked immediately. What made the situation worse was that another customer behind me loudly commented, "she spent too much," in front of everyone. This was incredibly rude and inappropriate. The cashier did nothing to manage the situation and instead became defensive. Payment issues can happen, but staff should be trained to communicate clearly and professionally--especially when a customer is already in an uncomfortable situation. Public embarrassment should never be part of the checkout experience. They surely make sure that the food is still good and warm when you pick. I have not gotten bad service at this location. Nothing there blows my mind. It's all meh to hard pass. There's a bakery I have not tried, but it's so close to my favorite bakery-85 degrees- I am never tempted to try baked goods at Ranch99. Just bought 2 Skate Wings. OMG cooked them and they stank of ammonia. Yuck, avoid the fish counter. My experience of this place didn't help in seeing blood drippings down their food aisles. Asked where their Nishiki rice was? Met with a vacant expression from their employee and no answer. Security guard gives the impression all their patrons steal... especially the rice! The meat is expensive. Save yourself some time, go to Costco. Vegetables and the bakery are the only things that are consistently good, except the usual staples. I went to the lunch area to buy char siu (roasted pork) and asked for duck sauce on the side to go with it. They refused to give me any, even when I offered to pay extra. Because of that, they lost my sale.. I won't be buying from this lunch area location again. It's frustrating that they are so stingy about something as small as sauce, especially when I'm a paying customer. They act as if giving out sauce would put their job on the line. It's a challenge to not come here when they are the biggest Asian market on this side of the tunnel. The variety of items is good, the brands of the items are good and they have lots of produce and seafood. The downside is that quality is lacking in some aspects. Today is a perfect example where the person behind the counter grabbed the chicken bun for me and I could see that it was over steamed. I know, I should have asked for another one but I hate being one of those ladies. Still, where is the quality control? Last year, I came here for fresh crab because the price was right. Unfortunately, my crabs were lacking in flavor as the crabs are in the racks with city water running through their tanks. I ended up hauling to Oakland Chinatown where the crabs were just coming off the truck. Big improvement in taste because their crabs had sweetness and the salty ocean taste every time. The orderliness seems to be changing here as the end caps of the aisles in the back are no longer stacks of boxes versus shelving. I appreciate that they appear to hire the locals because not every employee is Asian. So, I'm not a fan of their dim sum because the skins are thick and lacking in flavor. The one star is for the drinks that we received. I bought 2 iced Vietnamese coffees and a citrus tea. The citrus tea was fine. However, the coffees were terrible. My husband and sister-in-law wanted it and then from the first sip, they said it tasted off. So I tried it out, and it was sour and tasted like hazelnut as well for some reason. I went to the lady who made our drinks and she gave me the bottle of the premix stuff she had used to make it so I could sniff it. It smelled fine, but it didn't change the fact that the drinks were sour. I don't know if it was the milk they used, if the coffee was incorrectly brewed, but it was nasty. I went to customer service to get a refund as the lady instructed, and the guy at the counter said he couldn't give me a refund because there was nothing wrong with the coffee. He said that he and the lady smelled it (not tasted it) and said there was nothing wrong. I would advise against getting any coffee products from this location. The customer service was abysmal too. I understand needing to go back to double check the product, but we barely drank the coffee and we were unhappy with the purchase. read more

Yeah as someone who's been to many Ranch 99 locations (Hostetter, Oakridge, Milpitas, Cupertino Village, El Cerrito, Warm Springs, Newark, etc...), this might be the worst Ranch 99 I've been to. Granted, it's still a solid Asian supermarket, it's just slightly worse than the other Ranch 99s I've been to. First, the selection here seems slightly smaller overall than most Ranch 99s. I came here once with my friends from college, and we couldn't find everything we needed for our Hot Pot party, so we needed to go to the El Cerrito Ranch 99 after. Second, the food court and deli is worse here. The deli meats like roast duck and BBQ pork is somehow not that authentic. Something tastes off about the meats here. The quality of the self-serve hot food is also slightly worse overall. Also, one of the entrances to the store is sealed off, so you're funneled through a single tight entrance for people coming in and out. There's a security guard welcoming you in right by the entrance, so they must encounter a lot of crime here. Unlucky. Looking back, this is still a serviceable Asian supermarket if you're in the area. All I'm saying is I've been to better. read more

It's your typical supermarket vibe, a little dark but it kind of mentally keeps you cool headed. They fry fish here and sometimes there's deals on lobster or crab. I was driving to skippolinis and decided to stop by for a cake. Surprisingly, I was able to find a parking spot in front of the store. I went in, found the bakery to the left of the entrance, picked a cake, paid for it at the bakery and left. The chocolate cake was light and airy. I think they use whip cream, instead of cream. Visit their bakery, they have a variety of cakes to choose from. The best tiramisu cake can be purchased in the cake section. The taste of fresh fruit tarts is quite pleasant. Oh my gosh, to have this complete of an Asian shop near me would be dreamy. I was in town for work and with list in hand, stopped in to the store I've heard so much about. I found everything I needed, didn't need but wanted, and didn't know I had to have. :) If I had a place for cold storage, I'd have done even more financial damage. I can't compare to other mainstream stores because it was definitely cold and dim and had the interesting smell of an Asian market. The place felt packed but it was easy to find help when looking for a product. Every "choy"-type vegetable I've ever even heard of was available. The gailan was so cheap. Ginger fresh. The lemongrass! Everything I have near me but so plentiful and priced nicely! Fresh meats and seafood - I only peeked because I knew I wouldn't be able to buy anything. I didn't even look in the freezer section for the same reason. Cold items - I longed to purchase so many things but found myself just enjoying the view. I saw products that I remembered from my trip to Japan and visions of bento boxes started to fill my head Anyhow, I could almost imagine making the hour and half drive to this store so I could shop for real. Living in the "Far East" East Bay, it was hard finding a decently sized Asian market the likes of the South Bay. So when Ranch 99 opened in Concord, it was a godsend since it meant not having to journey all the way to Santa Clara for quality Asian products. This Ranch 99 is always busy and they have a lot of pan-Asian merchandise. They definitely have all the choys. Bok choy, ong choy, yu choy... Also, their instant ramen section has everything from Korean spicy ramen and Japanese udon to Thai and Indonesian noodles. While they have a lot of Asian things like Napa cabbage, daikon radish, and Asian pears, they do not carry everything that an ethnic-specific market like a Hankook Market, Mitsuwa Market, or Seafood City Supermarket would have. However, if you need something general, then Ranch 99 more than likely will carry it. I have to say that the one thing that I do not get from Ranch 99 is the meat. It just feels suspect. I blame the article from a few years ago at the San Jose 99 Ranch Market where meat deliverers rolled up with meat on a shopping cart. Google "Ranch 99 Meat Shopping Cart". Moreover, the one cut of meat I especially do not get is the pork belly because it isn't the Korean style that I'm used to but something really gelatinous and weird. Another knock is that their seafood section smells like (_x_). So when you walk into the market, you are greeted with that unmistakable whiff of stinky fish. It doesn't help that they also deep fry fish onsite. If you can get passed the smell, I feel like having Ranch 99 is better than not having Ranch 99. Moreover, being a Taiwanese-owned market chain, they are open 365 days a year. Reminds me of the Ronny Chieng Netflix special where he says "Asians don't shut down for anything... we don't shut down for Christmas!" I will give this location a solid 3 stars since it's a bit smaller than other Ranch 99 markets and the parking sucks. read more

99 Ranch Market is a large Asian Grocery Store chain mostly located on the West Coast. This review is for the Concord, CA location based on a single visit on Feb. 19, 2021. All their stores are large and are stocked with a large inventory of almost all Asian food products and all locations have a fully stocked fresh produce, seafood and meat markets. The variety of products is pretty wide. They also have a hot food deli section featuring Dim Sum, BBQ Meats/Duck/Chicken and a buffet line (for take out only during Covid SIP regulations). The meat market is a full service department and will custom select and cut various meats and fowl for the customers. The seafood section is equipped with many tanks with circulating water to keep live seafood such as clams, crabs, shrimp, fish, etc. Their inventory is geared mainly for the Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Filipino cuisines. This location, like most other in the chain, is not neat nor clean like most American supermarket grocery store chains. It's, actually quite messy, with inventory sitting on the floor in the aisles throughout the store. Prices are not well marked so it can be a bit frustrating to determine the price of individual shelf items. Shelf Markers are hard to read and some are missing, entirely. There are no scanners on the store floor that customers can take merchandise to scan to determine the correct price. And, there can be a language problem. The cashiers and other staff members generally speak English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Some of the staff stocking the shelves speak Spanish but not English, Cantonese or Mandarin. Obviously, this is a problem if you're looking for something and need help. You'll have to talk to someone that you can converse with if you want assistance. The hot food in the buffet line is sold for a single price - all you can get into a specific, 3 - compartment, Styrofoam clam-shell takeout box. Unfortunately, the food is not that good and it can be out on the steam table a long time. The BBQ/Roast meats/fowl in the deli section is pretty good at this location. The Dim Sum is also not too bad. The hot foods and deli foods can vary considerably from store to store. The prepared food here at the Concord Store seems to be better than the Pleasanton or Dublin Stores. Because the aisles are often filled with merchandise sitting on the floor, it can be challenging to make your way throughout the store. Also, it may be difficult to maintain 6' Social Distancing when it is crowded with both people and merchandise sitting in piles or displays in the aisles. 99 Ranch stores fill a need for local Asian folks. Before they came, Asian families were forced to go all the way to the Chinatowns in Oakland, Fremont and San Francisco. But the many locations of 99 Ranch today now make it possible to find those Asian food stuffs without going all the way into the cities with a Chinatown or other ethnic centers like Little Saigon. read more

Similar to the other 99 Ranch stores I've been to, they have a vast selection of everything: seafood, meat, chicken, and various dried goods. But just like the 99 Ranch located at Richmond, there are multiple isles with many unpacked boxes lined up within. It's a good thing Hubbers and I didn't really need a lot of things because maneuvering a cart would have been a challenge. And just like the Richmond spot, they do not accept or have any kind of rewards programs like the stores in SoCal do. They need to get with the program, eh?! TIP: I've been here once before years ago and I remember coming through during peak hours and that was no Bueno - parking will be a challenge, so plan accordingly. We just happened to be around the area and that's how we ended up here. (We normally go to the Richmond location.) They carried the few things we needed and the cashiers were swift, so overall, it was still a good stop. Would return if the need comes up should I find myself around here again. read more

I shopped at 99 ranch for the first time ever for some New Years Lobster. I did my research beforehand and was very pleased to discover that 99 ranch offered the most affordable lobsters in the area, without substituting quality! We got the massive 2-2.5 lb lobsters for about $17.99 a pound. My family was delighted by the size, quality, freshness, and taste of the lobster! Not to mention, we appreciated the seafood department advising us on how to store the lobster and how much would be enough for a family of 4. Today I bought the Whole Durian and I request to wrap the durian with paper because I was with my son at that time. I usually buy the whole durian and usually I got the wrap for durian by other cashiers who are nice. But lili is the one who is the rudest cashier I ever seen. She shook the head with poor attitude, tore the paper roughly with inpatient and roughly put the durian into the bad. Very unprofessional! So, be aware that one. read more
