I have to update my last review, because this store has really turned around on price and ease of coupon access. It's now less expensive than Safeway nearly everywhere, and competitive with Luckys. And those obnoxious digital coupons seem to be gone, replaced with normal sales that don't require you to interact with a website. I now prefer to go here over Safeway. read more

Great grocery store with good prices. They had everything I needed to make dinner. The only issue I had was while I was shopping I was looking for the deals that they had in store. When I got to check out the person checking me out said I didn't have an account with them which is fine, I checked multiple numbers just to make sure. Instead of being able to sign up at checkout they said I had to do it through a QR code. I don't know if they can't do it at the register or what but I ended up paying more than I expected. I don't know if it was because they only had two lanes open and they were busy, but I feel like I should be able to sign up for their rewards at the register. read more

The butcher (grumpy, old, tall) is one of the worst people I've ever interacted with in my lifetime. I needed shrimp and checked out the frozen shrimp case, which didn't have what I wanted (deveined, deshelled). The butcher counter was closed so there was nothing left in the windows. The butcher, who I recognized, was actively stocking the other meat fridges on the clock. I went up to him and said, "Hey, I know the butcher counter is closed, but I'm just wondering if it normally has shrimp in it?" He said, "The shrimp is over there in the frozen section." I said, "Yes, I know, but I'm talking about the butcher counter when you guys are open." He said, "Not sure, go check the frozen shrimp section. I said, "Can you please tell me if there is normally shrimp at the butcher when it's open?" He said, "I don't know, come here at 6 am and find out." Nob Hill is a pretty nice grocery store in Martinez. It's in the same shopping center as CVS, which makes it convenient when I need to make a stop for groceries and a pharmacy. There's a good selection of produce, meat, and other staples, and if you have the Raley's app, you can get some really great deals. Clipping the online coupons is absolutely worth it. There's also an incredible selection of local wines and craft beers, and their 30% off 6 bottles deal can't be beat! The only downside is some of the aisles (including the wine aisles) are so narrow that it's almost impossible to navigate 2 carts though, which can cause some traffic jams. The cashiers and workers behind the butcher and deli counter are super friendly and will definitely recognize you if you're a frequent shopper. It's just another nice encouragement to come here often! read more

Buyers beware. Cashiers over charge at this location. I was purchasing food here just a small amount and I looked at my total and I thought that's way to high for what I got because most of the stuff was on sale. My total was 43.00 and some change. Most of my items were two for 1. I bought 6 apples that we 2 plus dollars a pound a half gallon of organic milk 1 can of coconut milk two pack of rice 3.00 a piece and some salad.4.00 and a cube steak 5.00 and some change. I told the cashier to take off the milk and 3 apples and Ill take just 3 apples the price dropped from 43.00 to 25.00 that's a large jump isn't? She acted like she went into panic mode when I said it's too much for what Im getting. So just when you purchase items and bring a calculator with you and add the tax in yourself. read more

I'm so sick of cheep ploys to get extra money from the public. I can't see well because I'm old. I log on to internet and spend 45 min. going over list after list to clip the coupons. You must go through many list to find what's on sale. Then I start to notice some of the item don't show up so you have to pay more. Note: There is a reg price then what they call a sale price then there is the real sale price If it shows up on your bill. I went there today and you can't log on to your phone unless its a more expensive company. Product guy told me I had to buy more expansive mobil service if I want to see it in there store. Then I tole him I'm so sick of spending hours trying to get the sale price so now I have to clip on line then write it down because there store blocks cell. In the old days the add said what was on sale and you went in and bought it. Now you have to put in big work just to get sale weekly deals I told him this and he said well we do it so people don't put a run on a sale item. YOU GOT TO BE KIDING!!!! Then I went to the fish dept They had halibut on sale for 9.99 Good price yes but then the butcher lecture me on it's normally $30 pound. Love the staff. This is about corporates decision to make customers use a digital coupon for steep savings. It's tragic and discriminatory, and I say that because as an older person I'm not very techy. I don't want to use a phone to scan a coupon. Please just give everyone discounts. Your prices are ridiculous and I'm buying less products, which I guess is good for me since I'll probably lose weight. I'm going to choose other stores in my future. Walk up to the deli with my two children at noon, no line, two people working. After a moment I have to announce myself to get greeted, one of them begrudgingly comes to "help" me. She initially mishears what I say, I clearly repeat myself, and go to shop while my son's sandwich is being made. Nice store. But I have quit shopping there because the rock and roll music is blasting from open to close. SO LOUD! I have to go to the other nearby supermarket, which I do not like as well as Nob Hill. When I request it to be turned down, they tell me they are not supposed to, because corporate wants it this way. Corporate says shoppers like it. I find that hard to believe, most of the ones I asked said I don't care, or it is loud. I cannot think or focus on what I am there to do with the blaring music. I am a senior, which many of the shoppers that go to Nob hill are. I struggle with several disabilities, I simply cannot function under loud conditions. I hope some of you will agree with this comment if you are at all disturbed by the music volume, perhaps they will listen to us. I have complained before, and I never get a response from anyone at customer service. I do not go to the store to hear music. I go to shop, and shopping is complicated enough in the midst of these inflated prices. thank you. Been shopping here forever because the alternatives in town are worse- in terms of environment. For the most part the staff is really friendly and helpful; but the store marketing / sales are lousy. As mentioned by others, there are many different types of sale events / and the member sale phone application is horrible. It took me sitting with the store manager to walk through how to obtain the same member sales that used to be a lot easier to obtain. The music blaring can be a bit much and prices are through the roof, like everywhere. Yet, what gets me is the terrible organization of items. Certain food items, say gluten free or keto friendly are spread throughout the store; they used to be in one area. Many products are organized by brand, not the package contents. Try buying spaghetti pasta- it's an overwhelming 1/2 isle to sift through. Many popular items are not re-stocked, while the items that don't move sit and gather dust. Maybe this is the way all the stores are doing it, but add the searching for what you want, fiddling with the app, and the time waiting in line for the two available checkers and no help with bagging because Johnny is busy in the parking lot gathering carts makes the shopping experience less than desirable. The checkout lines are inexcusable and now is the worst part of grocery shopping at this store; especially when you have to defend your position in line when someone fails to realize (or purposely) they cut in front of the five people that have been patiently waiting and don't get me started on the one person that gets ticked off for having to wait in the same line to buy a single bottle of alcohol. Food has become exceptionally expensive, the big grocery stores have monopolized the retail outlook and the least they can do is make the process easier to find the products you're after, be transparent and easy to participate in your sales events / items, and hasten the checkout process. Otherwise, the brick and mortar store will be an Amazon pickup location within 5 years. Who knows maybe Amazon would keep the exterior and parking lot cleaned up. Customers aren't dumb, just limited to very few local choices that given the option would drop overnight for better prices and / or an improved shopping experience. This is sad as it is the demise to commercial real-estate and creating food deserts in other areas of the bay. In other words, nob-Hill you are shooting yourself in the foot as customers become disillusioned with your business. Try focusing on customer experience, not just service. read more

Your average grocery store, nothing special. It has all the usual items. Prices seemed high in general. Eggs and produce prices were high. I know prices in general are high with inflation, but they seemed extra high here. Not many options in the fresh baked goods area. Kind of dark inside and reminded me a third world grocery store. Things were clean organized. I'm not really loving it and don't have a desire to return. Pastries were great. The bagel with cheese and jalapeño on top was yummy. Plenty of parking spots in the parking lot. Friendly staff. 4 stars seems fair. read more

This is great Nob Hill Foods. The service here is the highlight. The fellow at the butcher counter is always friendly. And the gal who makes the sandwiches over the by the deli was diligent. They have nice produce section that appears well kept. The only rubs are that the parking lot does get a bit hectic. And the meats at the butcher counter do appear to get left out for some time. Nob Hill Foods isn't a bad grocery store. I came to this location quite often and I always had the best customer service especially when I used their Self Check Out. Parking at this location is easy to find. You can find parking closer to the store without walking far. What is wonderful about this location is that there is a Wells Fargo ATM. You can't make excuses of not having cash. Just run to the ATM to withdrawal money or deposit it. I will come back here again. read more

I like going to this Nob Hill since it's the closest grocery store to my job. There is always parking but it can get busy during lunch time on a weekday. This store is located close to the freeway, next to a few good places to grab food: Cinco de Mayo (Mexican Food), Kinders BBQ, an Italian Restaurant, Subway, and a really good Bagel joint. The inside of the store is very organized, clean, the employees working there are very friendly and helpful, especially the ones working in the Deli. Speaking of the Deli, the salads are fresh and the sandwiches are really good. I highly recommend the sandwiches. The only two negative things about Nob Hill is that the groceries cost a little more than other places and the produce section is a hit or miss. If you do plan on shopping here regularly, don't forget to sign up for the "Something Extra" card. The card earns you "something extra dollars" which you can spend on groceries in-store. read more

I like shopping at my Martinez Nob Hill Foods for produce and meat and other things I want to make sure are fresh and good quality. The store is very clean ! Having strong management matters - Leading by example and caring matters - and the manager there, Sam Saad is Awesome! Whenever I am there to shop, I see him always talking with and working together with his team around the store. I just read someone's post this morning on a community Facebook page grateful to Sam and Nob Hill -- the customer forgot her coupon to buy cases of bottled water for our local senior center cooling station, and when she asked about not having the coupon, Sam overheard and not only give her the discount but donated a few cases to the senior center! I also know that he has supported Passion to the Streets in applying for Raley's grants in their great efforts to help our homeless , And that Sam/ Raley's has for many years supported the donation of organic, nutritious snacks for New Leaf Collaborative's EcoKids Summer Workshops at Susana St Park. All this Makes me feel grateful and motivated to support businesses that care about our community! While it is not the closest grocery store to my house, it makes me feel good to shop there for what I need whenever I can! read more

Clean and well stocked. But.. seems either understaffed as of late or poorly managed. Until recently the lines were reasonable. Lately, over the past month or so this has changed. Despite a sign clearly labeled as Express, 15 or less, there was just a single line. Someone one, perhaps a pushy customer had decided that there was to be be one line shared to both cashiers. Basically no express line. Where was the manager? After a rather loud conversation, another checkout was opened. So obviously there was sufficient staff. I've written a letter asking for a statement of policy. Are Express lines to be opened to all on the whim of a customer? I want something in writing otherwise, I don't want the aggravation. There are other stores near me. This was the Martinez store on 8/7 at 6:00 PM. read more

I am not a regular shopper of the Center Ave Nob Hill Foods location. I stopped in to get some things for dinner while I was in the area. I am part of their shopping program but did not know how to get the deals advertised. I was in the self check area and asked the employee how to get the deal on the one item I wanted. I explained I did not frequent this Nob Hill or any Nob Hill store but once a year. He was a jerk about it adjusting the price for this ONE item! Honestly, I really do not want to download an app just to get the price on one item for a store that I visit MAYBE once a year. Anyway, this really turned me off from going here ever again. Next time I'll drive to Safeway where I usually shop with their app on a regular basis. Nice store with a good selection, but two stars off for a jerk. read more

If you close at 9pm, let people in until a few minutes before then at least. Otherwise, change your opening hours accordingly. Very poor customer service. This is for the service I received last night (1/25/21)from 5pm-5:30pm-ish The female that was in charge of all the issues at the check out stands. For me, specifically, at the self checkout. The store was packed, a lot of registers open, yet still 4 customers deep in line at each. The register I checked my groceries out at kept freezing up. The front end manager(perhaps not called anymore) stayed cool, literally had to come unlock my register at least 10 times(lots of groceries). She was/is amazing. She was non stop the 20 minutes I was witness to. She was feverishly going from register to register making sure everyone was taken care of. Kept a smile on her face, never showed frustration. Her positive attitude was contagious. I am not a patient person. But, because of her, I didn't even let the funky register/nor my time being wasted because of it, get to me. AMAZING! Also a shout out to the male in the meat department, very pleasant. As was the male, working in the deli. I spent too much time in here, due to the funky register. But the Employees made it much better. read more

We stopped by the meat department this afternoon, looking for a bone-in ham. There were a few whole ham but no half one in display . I asked the only worker in the meat department stocking for meat products. I told him I was looking for a 1/2 bone in ham. His attitude was very unfriendly and said that's all we had. The weekly ad clearly stated that 1/2 bone in ham was available. We had the same treatment when we were looking for bacons. We usually love this market and have excellent experience with cashiers and Deli personnel. It is unfortunate what we feel about the poor and unfriendly experience at the meat department. We will continue to shop at the market however we will avoid the meat department. The one star was for the meat department. read more

I'd like to shop here more often because there are other services I use in the center. However it's so frustrating to never find any of the sale items in stock. Sales start on Wednesday and out of stock on Thursday. Today I was told by employee in the meat department " first come/first served" and to get a rain check. Past experience is that you have to go every day to see if what you wanted is back in stock since they have no idea when they'll get re-stocked. The guy today was pretty rude and started talking about me "yelling" at him to another customer looking for the same item. That was my last straw. Today I drove from Clayton to the Martinez location for an ad item in the meat department. The butcher was very rude telling me they didn't have the item and go upfront for a rain check. I asked if he had any idea when the item would be in, he repeated go upfront and get a rain check. The lady at the check out was nice and said call before hand and see if the item is in. I'm getting groceries here all throughout the covid And I can say that this is the best place to get groceries by far All of the employees are very friendly I even had a small interaction with action was another customer who was being offensive and the checker and the checker kept calm I of course said something to the person but Nothing escalated and she was put in her place very quickly 10/10 I will never go anywhere else. Try the brioche buns but leave me some and the cider in the cold section. Also one time I was really nervous about a job interview and the checker remembered me from the week before and ask me how a job interview went. Like its sibling Raley's, it has a better selection of health foods and products but with that comes at a slightly higher price. This location had everything I needed today, and don't you love it when what you're intending to get anyways is about 30% off? Produce selection is also pretty decent. The cashier's body language and tone of voice screamed, "I hate my job," but he was courteous enough and went the extra mile to ensure that we got an additional 5% discount on our purchases. read more

This past weekend my Mom and Dad and my brothers family came over for an early Easter. I decided on choosing Nob Hill to make my party trays since I've purchased sandwiches from this location before and haven't been disappointed. I ordered the Hawaiian Roll 24 count sandwiches and the Antipasto Tray. Ordering them online was very easy and I paid for them online so no waiting in line. Picking them up the presentation was exactly as pictured and their were enough leftovers for having had ten people. Very satisfied customer and made the day great. read more
