It's a specialty store so know that going in to it. Their meat counter is the absolute best! I'll pay a premium to get quality meat and the cuts. Their lamb . The notice is just the best grocery store in the Pleasant Hill Walnut Creek area. When I compare Safeway/Whole Foods/the Filipino grocery store seafood city to what is available at and the quality of food at Lunardi's, Lunardi's beats everyone hands-down. Of all the stores I've been to this store has the freshest meat plus good prices plus a bakery. This is only about the deli salads - soooo disappointing. We went there to pick up a quick lunch that we assumed would be better quality than Safeway or Sprouts. It was not. The wild rice & cranberry "& mango" salad (couldn't taste any mango!) would have been somewhat tasty except the rice was bone dry. OK, not literally, but I don't enjoy crunchy, mealy rice in my rice salad. $12 per pound. Yikes. About $6 to share about 1 cup of crappy rice. The Chinese chicken salad was pretty nice, although it had no real Asian flavors. I liked the sliced almonds in it and I was happy that it did not have those crunchy fried noodles or other gluten/carb ingredients. $10 per pound made a reasonable main dish for two of us. The broccoli salad was bland and had huge florets. It had some kind of strong-flavored soft cheese in it (huh? in broccoli salad?) that did not improve its taste. All this for $13 per pound??? If I want to eat mediocre-to-bad salads, I can go to Safeway for cheaper. read more

I went to the deli department at 7:20 PM. The only lady working with glasses had a very poor attitude--no greeting, no smile, and just had an unfriendly tone while I was ordering. This market has more unique offerings than a grocery store such as Lucky's. There's more high-end items. The meat department has almost any cut of meat you might need. The produce selection is very good. The downside here is the price, but if you buy the items that are on special for the week, it's close to buying at a regular grocery store. The deli selection is great too. I ordered a sandwich from their deli and waited about 10 minutes for two sandwiches to be made. The spreads on the sandwich did not overpower, and the flavor of the meats came through. It was not salty as some deli sandwiches can be. read more

Best meat counter in Bay Area. Butchers will cut or trim red meats, poultry or fish to your specifications. They have a huge selection of the highest quality. Much better flavored than at Diablo Foods, Whole Foods and especially Safeway. The wine selection is incredible. They have highly trained wine managers who will help pick out the perfect wine for a special occasion. Produce is excellent and again must more flavorable than the organic corporate produce from Whole Foods. They have an excellent bread/bakery section and a quite good deli. The every day aisles tend to be higher quality/luxury goods. I can always find what I want but these items are pricier than elsewhere. Customer service is terrific with a checker and sacker at every register. Employees are proud of their store and it show in their disire to please the customer. read more

Lunardi's is our go-to grocery store for their selection. They offer quality meats wrapped by butchers with the training and expertise to answer any questions you may have on meat origin, how to select and/or prep for recipes, the freshest seafood available; all things no longer provided at Safeways or other grocery stores. Much appreciated, the quality far outweighs all other stores. Same with their farmers market fresh produce! Their weekly sales are excellent, as is their bakery & deli. Have been getting deli sandwiches from there since it was Petrini's and the sandwiches have always been pretty good. Usually a nice amount of meat/ cheese and they have a lot of options. What a disappointment today. Of course the price has gone up $11.99 for a very basic sandwich, without cheese. $13.99 with cheese and the usual. Today both sandwiches were paper thin. I could not believe how cheap they have gotten. Called to speak to a manager just to voice my disappointment, she agreed that the sandwiches are way over priced. So, is this the best grocery store. Ehhh. They are fully stocked it seems. BUT they do have candy kittens, which I think is one of the best vegan gummy candies. Usually you have to order them online. I like sour watermelon the best, but I only saw 2 flavors--wild strawberry and eton mess (a dessert with berries, meringue, whipped cream). I saw about 4 butchers working on a Thursday afternoon. It's like Berkeley Bowl but better. About 8 different kinds of italian sausage. Fresh seafood beyond salmon and cod. My ribeye steaks were about 2" thick and they were *delicious* with a simple prep. Of course I had to do a quick run around most of the other aisles to check it out and it looks excellent. Y'all with the low reviews must be on something, because this is the only grocery store in the area with produce that isn't half-rotten. Is it a little pricier on the prepackaged items? Sure. But I can show up and get four types of fruit in fantastic shape, and vegetables that don't look like they were run over by a truck first, which is true nowhere else besides Berkeley Bowl (which is a madhouse even on weekdays). They also have great rotating produce sales, so by shopping the sales I'm actually spending *less* than I would at Safeway or Luckys. read more

I have loved visiting Lunardi's for many years and recently revisited this location for a special dinner I was making. The butcher counter is well stocked and offers fantastic service. The produce is also top notch, with many items you won't find at the run of the mill grocery stores. A friend saw my bag and joked about the costs, but honestly if you're smart about where you source things I think this spot is a perfect compliment to your usual grocery shopping routine. read more

I could have lived my whole life without needing to know the two bag boys at Lunardi's "bagged the same chick" who's apparently "nasty" and one would like to run her over with his car. Yea. Professionalism at its finest. I came here because I thought this was an upscale place. The only thing upscale are the prices! I recently went to Lunardi's, while I was there I stopped at the Hot Bar Deli station near the deli section. I ordered 1/2 slab of ribs and 1 pint of scalloped potatoes. When I returned home I checked the ribs, they were burned on one side and not edible. Two of the ribs were OK but dry and barely had any sauce. Cost 9.00. Checked the potatoes and it was as if someone had sliced potatoes cooked them and then covered them with cheese sauce out of a jar. Tasteless and like eating cheese whiz. Cost 8.99 I won't purchase from this Hot Bar again. read more

They're open early in the morning, earlier than Whole Foods so I stopped in. When they have fresh Napoleons at the bakery, they are the same exact flavor and texture as the ones I grew up on out on Long Island. Absolutely the BEST! I also love the cupcakes they have, I forgot the brand name but there's lemon, chocolate and vanilla with filling... perfect icing! They do an excellent job on fresh produce and have a wide selection that is very well-selected- it's all fresh and ripe, and they have a hot food section I've often gotten lunch from. A little pricey maybe, but maybe now the same cost (or a little less!) than at a fast food joint! The staff are always polite and helpful. I drive out of my way to go here. read more

Who needs a butcher when you have Lunardi's?! This place has the absolute best meat and fish counter. Need sushi grade seafood? Yep. They got it. Need an obscure part of the cow? Got that too. Fresh chicken to your preferred thinness? Yep. The best, I'm telling ya. The produce section is a bit pricey but that's the cost of quality. A friend of ours gave us a Pot Roast the other day. Don't live in the area and not aware of Lunardi's. The Pot Roast was delicious. In Lafayette today and decided to check out the store. I like to fish in SF Bay and coast. I checked out the fish counter- well maintained and displayed. Fish was completely fresh. Next was the meat counter. Nicely displayed. Everything looked great. Produce, ditto. Bakery, ditto Deli, ditto Staff was friendly. We ended up doing our weekly shopping. We will be back. read more
