I have been here four times and it has been excellent each time. From the combos to the family meals, the food has been on point. Great flavor, generous portions and friendly service. Some of my favorite dishes are the Kalbi Short Ribs, Katsu Chicken and the Mac salad is addictive. I recently visited the Hawaii and I honestly thought the Mac salad was better than in Hilo, no joke! New Hawaiian BBQ spot located in the Seafood City plaza in Vallejo! The prices are all really fair and the portion size is huge. We got the laulau and kalua pork. The pork & taro leaves in the laulau was really tender and flavorful! The kalua pork was a bit on the drier side, I also wish they shredded the cabbage and mixed it throughout the dish rather than giving whole cabbage leaves under the pork. They aren't kidding about generous portions! Each combo meal would likely be enough protein for 2.5 meals! We came here on a whim after the gym. I will admit the location isn't the nicest looking. But there is plenty of parking and the food is worth the trip! The food was delicious and so reasonably priced! We ordered the moku chicken combo plate and the aloha bbq combo plate. Those are the two most popular. They also have a large selection of Hawaiian sun. Three drinks and the two combo plates came out to about $37. The food is all packaged in a to-go container complete with utensils and condiments. But there is seating if you just can't wait to get home to dig in. The ambiance is very casual. It looks mostly like a grab and go set up. The chicken was moist and flavorful! My aloha bbq plate had two large pieces of the short ribs, two large pieces of chicken breast, and another protein on top of rice, Mac salad, and some cabbage and broccoli. The moku chicken plate came with at least two large pieces of katsu chicken and also the bbq chicken. The owner was also very sweet. When you've gone to one Hawaiian BBQ place, you've gone to them all. This one is no different, but yet, it is slightly different. First, I will explain the negatives. And then I will explain why the positives outweigh the negatives. I got the kalua pork combo. This is my tester dish for Hawaiian places. The macaroni salad was disappointing. Practically the whole reason I go to a Hawaiian place is for the macaroni salad lol. The sauce was inedibly sweet to my taste. I'm sure some people love it. It seemed even sweeter than pure sugar syrup if that is even possible. The plus is that it comes on the side. Now for the positives. Portions are generous. Sometimes there's just a thin layer of meat covering up all the veggies. They give a very generous helping of meat plus a decent amount veggies + not too much rice. So it was a good balance and there was a lot of meat. The best part was that, even though a lot of Hawaiian places say they serve BBQ, you can't really taste any smoky flavor. At this place, the Kalua pork had a really nice, distinctly smoky flavor and the pork was very good on its own without any sauce. We randomly decided to try Moana Hawaiian BBQ for takeout for our family viewing of Moana 2 and wow, have we been missing out! I took pictures of the apps after we started so it did come with more (+ sauces). The pork gyoza wasn't my absolute favorite dumplings but I did like the crunch and would definitely order them again. The lumpia was the star though. Those disappeared too quickly! As for pur entrees, the seafood plate and kaluah pork were both amazing. The portions were too much for us, but it would be great for sharing with family and they do have a smaller portions as well.
