The inside is nicely set up with, both a bar and a seating area. If you sit at the bar you can watch your sushi being made while the game is on. Our food came out extremely quick - great service.

Happy customer!

The food is amazing here. Whether you're a seafood person or somebody who just wants a dish with rice like chicken teriyaki it is the place to be. The service is on point and quick. Also if you can make it early 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. you can get lunch before a more discounted price. The bento boxes are very popular. But when I come here I like to spoil myself. Even for a busy lunch hour the ambience is still nice and peaceful. I love seeing chef. He always knows what to make me and he knows what I like. I always sit at the sushi bar.

Shrimp Tempura

Matsuri's is a good place for a sit down lunch /dinner for the family. We celebrated a birthday here and was happy with the service and food. I ordered the Shrimp Tempura dinner. It came with a cup of Miso soup and a salad. I had plenty of Shrimp and vegetable tempura enough to take home and we shared an M&M roll. The family all got Bento boxes and rolls and they were all satisfied. The place is nice with a sushi bar in a central place of the restaurant and on the wall, it has a TV. The Servers are friendly and attentive. The food came pretty quick and it was nice and hot. The food was moderately priced but worth it.

*** Vegetarian Review *** A 3-star vegetarian review isn't unusual for a Japanese restaurant. Not a lot of options so the available options better jump off the plate. There are a few dishes that could make you come here, so let's get into it. Futo Maki ($8.95, Grade B-) Oshinko (lightly pickled vegetables), kanpyo (dried gourd shavings), kappa (cucumber), inari (sweet tofu skin), tamago (egg), red ginger, and sesame seed. I didn't like the carrot at all - had an extremely overpowering flavor and tone. But after I removed those from the rolls, I did enjoy this. It paired very well with the agedashi (made vegetarian) appetizer I ordered as my main meal. Agedashi ($5.95, Grade A+) Deep fried tofu without the bonito flakes. Also requested no seaweed and the dipping sauce on the sauce. The way they prepare the tofu is really great. Probably a firm tofu and lightly battered and fried, not greasy. Comes with 6 square pieces. As noted above, eating the futo maki together was a great compliment. You get the texture from the fried tofu with the pickled tones of the futo roll. Recommend doing this if you come here. Inari Nigiri ($5.95, Grade D) - Sweet tofu wrap with sushi rice. This is my go-to for Japanese restaurants because it usually fills me up when there are not a lot of options. This unfortunately was not good at all. The tofu pouch wasn't remotely sweet and it was actually leathery and tough. The sushi rice was hard so I basically removed it and used the tofu pouch with my fried tofu from the agedashi. Asian fries ($8.95, Grade A+) Fried taro, sweet potato served with garlic aioli sauce. Lightly battered and .... I'll just say probably good for you! Let's call these a healthy snack. Bento Box - both lunch and dinner. Lunch is 11:30a-2p. You can choose between a 2 or 3 item bento. Dinner is 4:30p-close and you need to choose 3 items. On a different trip, I ordered the veggie tempura, veggie gyoza, and wakame dinner bento box. - Veggie tempura. I like the veggie tempura better at Yo Sushi. This is a little heavier on the oily side. That said, I ate it all, but i wouldn't order this separately as an appetizer. - Veggie gyoza. I love the fact they have this as an option. I can't tell if it is house made, but it was heavy on the salt. Sidenote - since it's rare I get to have a veggie gyoza, on a separate trip, I ordered it again and the saltiness level was the same. - Wakame. The portion sizes in the bento box is very generous. This actually helped balance the other items in my bento. Bottom line. Clean environment. They keep the front door open so fresh air is constantly being introduced. No strong fish smells. Staff is super friendly and attentive. They have vegetarian options so you're not just stuck with a boring cucumber roll. Sidenote - took my Japanese relatives that were visiting from out of town here for dinner. They ordered the mackerel and said "this was the best mackerel I've ever had."

Wow! It's been at least a decade, probably a decade and a half, since I've been here, but I remember back when they opened! This spot was my and my mom's favorite for sushi. Back in the day, she and I could pack away $100 worth of sushi just the two of us, and that was probably 25 years ago! Yes, Matsuri has been around that long! This past week, she and I meet for dinner, along with my husband. My mom ordered her go-tos: ika sansai (squid salad) and a Lion King. When I was a kid, I thought this restaurant invented the Lion King lol! It's always been a good roll. I don't remember the names of the two rolls I got... Maybe Lily Belle and Tsunami? That sounds about right. The Lily Belle was similar to a 49er roll, and I really enjoyed it. The Tsunami was a spicy roll and it was just ok. My husband chose a bento box and ate the whole thing. We were pleased with our meal. However, maybe my palate has matured since I was a teenager, but overall I thought the sushi was just "fine." I'd probably have to return and give some other rolls a try. Their menu is extensive, so I wish they had pictures to accompany it. I feel like sushi is such a visual art from, and people usually know what they like from how it looks, rather than a general written description.

Spicy tuna handrolls and a few specialty rolls, with some excellent saki and beer options!

This is the best sushi place in Vallejo and hands down our go-to for amazing fresh seafood. Large, extensive menu including a ton of non sushi options, but the sushi is so good we never try the options. Huge list of specialty rolls, hand rolls, sashimi, chef's choice, daily specials, etc. and a nice selection of saki and beer. Such a great place!

I'm not sure why I don't come here more often but today was a good day to stop by. As always the wait to be seated was not long at all and the service is excellent. The food is quality as usual.

Always a great time at Matsuris. Rolls are always good and a great place to drink some beers and watch Thursday night football

Truffle oil salmon belly

This place hits the spot! The sushi is fresh and always on point. Also the truffle salmon belly is melt in your mouth. Service is always good even when they are busy.

***** Always great, I love the freshness of the food. I did order the bento box for me, salmon and beef teriyaki and sesame chicken, everything was excellent, service was amazing too. Strongly recommended!

Bento with nigiri combo, gyoza and oyster katsu. Not pictured: miso soup and salad

This place is the best!! Fast and friendly service, plenty of table and bar seating. We like to sit at the bar, where we can watch the master chef at work. My wife had an awesome bento combo and I got the Texas Moon roll. This roll comes to me in dreams, it's out of this world and should not be missed. Pro tip: ask the chef to surprise you with a roll of his choice.

Ask the Community - Matsuri

To the Owners: It was said on a few social media sites that you may have closed permanently, is this true?

No, that is not true. We have just closed for the holidays, and reopen on Jan 4th.

Is there indoor dining now?

Yes, Matsuri opens for dinning

Do they have their liquor license?

Yes we do. We also offer 25% off on beer, wine and sake until june 17th

How clean is this restaurant (including restrooms)? Do they use the same utensils on the sushi as they do in the cooked food?

I'm sure they don't mix utensils since the food is cooked in the kitchen and not at the sushi bar. Bathrooms were clean when I went!

Thank you so much. Do you know of any restaurant around the area?

What kind?

Does this restaurant have all you can eat sushi? If not doesn't anyone of a place that is?

No, not all you can eat. There aren't any places in Vallejo that have all you can eat.

Ordered delivery rolls. Pink lady and volcano today. Way too much food for one person but I wanted…read moreto sample some of what they come up with. Volcano roll is basically a CA roll with chopped scallop on top in a spicy mayo with tobiko and scallion. The fragrance seems like it's then torched for a smoky finish. Not bad at all but today the rice was a little mushy like it hadn't been rinsed enough before cooking or just plain overcooked. Was a little odd texture. The Pink Lady was also really yummy but again rice texture was a bit off. Tempura shrimp with cucumber and avocado inside covered in shredded surimi (imitation crab) and a spicy mayo drizzle. Again not too bad. Gotta say the PORTIONS ARE HUGE imo. YMMV Overall I'd say more than acceptable, rather good apart from the rice today. Could be due to languishing in delivery boxes in transit. So I'm looking forward to returning to dine in and get a look around n see if fresh-from-the-chef rice is better. Joe-Bob says check it out

Plenty of parking located at Gateway Plaza. I support local businesses, however, I was disappointed with the recent visit regarding the taste of the food. Presentation is good, customer service is ok. Tip will be asked at the screen upon ordering and payment but optional. The Lion King in my opinion is pricey and the price is not worth it. It's like a California roll with too much stuff on top that is salty i mean too salty. I had this roll long time ago and it does not taste like this. I recommend the bento box. Plenty of items, delicious, cost almost the same as Lion King. The bento box is worth ordering though. No free water, we purchased our drink outside after eating. $35 for the two orders.

So I found myself out in Hiddenbrooke visiting my mother and we decided to go get lunch-didn't…read morereally feel like driving too far after driving down from Sacramento so we chose the local restaurant in Hiddenbrooke, which I've always kind of enjoyed-The Loft Thai and Sushi located in Hiddenbrooke. This place is located in a small multi tenant shopping center located near the entrance of Hiddenbrooke with ample parking-so that was nice. This restaurant is for sure a local restaurant that serves the Hiddenbrooke community with most of their patrons being locals from the community. That was what we found upon arrival, most of the customers did seem to be locals in for a quick lunch. I would describe this place as an Asian fusion restaurant.-the depth of their menu was surprising-like "Cheesecake Factory-esque" level depth of menu.Their sushi menu was many pages and I hadn't even planned on getting sushi but after looking at this menu,I had to try something-so went with a simple Spicy Tuna Roll ($12.95). Off the Thai menu we decided to go with the Trio Meat Fried Rice ($20.95) Virgin Drunken Noodle ($18.95) Pad See U ($16.95) and Drunken Noodle ($16.95) Well I don't consider myself an expert when it comes to Asian fusion but I've had it more than a handful of times-so I can say with confidence that the food here was pretty good- very tasty-the Virgin Drunken Noodles were Interesting due to their use of glass noodles-the beef in that dish was seasoned well.I ordered my Drunken Noodles spicy and for that they delivered, quite a spicy dish. The Pad See U had really good veggies on it-very tasty and snappy. The Spicy Tuna Roll was pretty standard-the highlight being I somehow got my mother to try sushi for the 1st time by eating a piece of this sushi roll-she didn't hate it which I think is a pretty good review from a 73 year old Native American woman trying sushi for the 1st time. In closing,if u ever find yourself out in the Vallejo or Hiddenbrooke area and you want to give a small local business a try-this place is a pretty good choice-with a menu this big, your bound to find something on there that will make you happy. PS....I forgot to say I really enjoyed the house hot sake-pretty good flavor and perfect item to warm you up in this cold winter times we are in.
