This place has been a family favorite of ours for years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. We were seated and given menus, but after that... nothing. We waited over 15 minutes with absolutely no acknowledgment from staff--not even water. Meanwhile, guests who arrived after us, especially those seated at the bar, were greeted, given water, and had their orders taken right away. More people continued to come in and be helped before us, and still no one checked on our table. At that point, we decided to leave--and even then, no one acknowledged us on the way out. We ended up going to another nearby restaurant where we were seated right away, given water immediately, and had our orders taken promptly. Soup and salad were brought out within 10 minutes of arriving--such a huge contrast in service. My family and I have been coming here for a few years. We've never had such bad experience until the past few times we went. This last time was "it" for me. I ordered the beef teriyaki like I usually do. When it first arrived-- it was soooo burnt! Like black. (I forgot to take a pic). Then, they sent it back to the kitchen & brought it back "fixed" (RAW!!). I was still charged for the bento box full price & asked they please just make me a sushi roll. The vibes are cozy-chaotic in the best way: like your cool friend's apartment if your cool friend also happened to be a sushi wizard with access to dangerously fresh fish. Chef Aaron is the undisputed **overlord** of the sushi bar. At this point I'm convinced he's less "chef" and more "seafood therapist" because every fish that ends up on my plate clearly died for a noble cause. He made me a custom roll that I did not deserve, and I'm still thinking about it like an ex that got away. The nigiri? Little pillows of happiness. The rolls? Architectural masterpieces that could probably get permits from the city. Every bite had me doing that subtle closed-eyes-head-tilt thing like I was in a dramatic food commercial. I tried to play it cool, but somewhere around bite three I caught myself whispering "oh my god" to a piece of tuna. Service was faster than my self-control. Water refilled, plates cleared, wasabi magically appearing just when I thought, "I could use a little more danger." The staff is friendly in that "we actually like you" way, not the "my manager is watching" way. If you sit at the bar, just tell Chef Aaron what you like and then surrender your life choices. He'll start handing you plates that make you say, "Okay, this is my new favorite," about seven times in a row. By the end I was ready to put him in my emergency contacts. 10/10 would recommend, 5/5 stars, 3/3 unbuttoned pant sizes. Fr was eating like (sushi) kings... My boyfriend and I decided to try this hidden gem as it is one of his favorite sushi spots in the area. Located in a busy plaza near Safeway & Crumbl, Sushi King holds a place where it could be easy to miss. The inside was so cozy! Definitely cute for date nights. I liked how there is a sushi bar and a lot of tables to attain for certain party sizes. Their menu had a nice variety with a good amount of special rolls, simple rolls, and even hand rolls. Prices were decent depending on kind of fish you got on your special roll, but was cheap when you got a simple roll that only had the fish. For instance, the Hamachi Lover was $24 while our sake maki was $9. Our rolls did take a minute to come out (15 minutes) even though it wasn't busy. Their gyoza was flaky and juicy. Lots of flavor. It was easily demolished within seconds and made us wish there was more! Their sake maki (6 pieces, salmon with seaweed outside) was super fresh and it literally melted in our mouths. The Hamachi Lover was a notable fav. The slight tanginess from the ponzu sauce paired with the yellowtail and sweet potato crunch on top was so decadent. Sweet potato crunch instead of tempura flakes is the new play for sure and who doesn't love a crunch. The dragon roll was randomly one of the best I've had. The unagi tasted like it was just cooked right before and didn't mush completely with the roll (a good sign). You can tell the shrimp tempura was also cooked beforehand as well. The roll remained slightly crunchy in every bite. Definitely would come back again -- alone or with him -- and try more of their food. read more

Then another 20 mins later our meals are being served... I can't say I was happy with that part of the dining experience. A friend invited us to lunch at Sushi King, and to our surprise, it completely exceeded expectations. The quality of the fish is outstanding -- easily the best we've had in a long time. The cuts of sushi are generous, not the tiny pieces you often get elsewhere. They even offer otoro, a personal favorite, and their marinated escolar is unbelievably good. Their chirashi bowl is our top pick -- beautifully prepared and featuring more than just the standard fish selection. You can tell the chefs take pride in what they serve. Service is always stellar. The sushi chefs are friendly, welcoming, and clearly passionate about their craft. When we've sat at the bar, they've even surprised us with off-menu samples that were all incredible. It's been a few years since I last ate at sushi king but when I had the opportunity to celebrate a birthday here I had to say yes. We made a reservation for 12 so we got the small dining area in the front of the restaurant. It's a pretty small area that if someone needed to use the restroom a lot of people would need to get up. I wanted to order nigiri but was told they couldn't make nigiri because they ran out of some ingredients. The food took a little while to come out. the negihama roll was ok. I liked the negitoro roll better. I love that they use pickled wasabi here. The waitress didn't refill my drink at all while I was here. I wish she checked on me once or twice but she didn't. One of the workers, Jaya, was so sweet and had a conversation with me the whole time. The sushi chef also made my dragon roll a bit special by adding this different tobiko (I think it was tobiko, not sure. Either way it was really good.) and these ripe cherry tomatoes. I was in the restaurant about 3 1/2 weeks ago and witnessed a situation that I was sickened by. After inquiring I was informed it was the manager Ryan who was behind the sushi bar. While I was waiting for my lunch I witnessed him leave the sushi area several times and go into the kitchen. He kept poking his head through the door, pointing his finger to the tables in the restaurant, and it was apparent he was mad. Then he came out to where the cash register is located and berated and humiliated two female employees. I witnessed one employee trying to stand behind the partition as to not disrupt the patrons eating lunch. She was crying. The patrons kept coming into the restaurant and were left seated with no orders being taken because he was busy, reprimanding them in front of everybody. There was no filter. One of the servers did leave the other server, who had helped me when I originally came in, was gracious, kind, and so apologetic for me having to wait. She was so professional and didn't say a word about what a transpired. She didn't need to. I observed the entire thing. We all know that things can happen between management and staff, but those things should always be handled privately behind closed doors and definitely not in front of all your patrons frequenting your restaurant. My only regret is that I didn't call the police or stand up for the employees when it was occurring. I will not frequent this restaurant again. The manager should be ashamed! read more

As soon as we finished ordering, people came trickling in. A group of 4, another group of 4, a group of 2. Steady crowd. The staff is very attentive and polite. Prices are moderate. Food was good. I am glad to know that if I need a sushi fix, there are other options in the area. The menu is small but that is how you control guest satisfaction.
