Been meaning to try LASO for a long time, and finally got a chance! 5 stars! They're amazing! Definitely live up to their insanely high Yelp score! On to the food! We were excited and tried a bunch of items. For appetizers, we got the samosas, riki kur, and Brussels sprouts. All were tasty, but the riki kur (pancake) was my favorite! As far as my main dish, I got the beef thali set. Super flavorful, and it was a delight to try something my tastebuds have never tried before! Also, Ming, the owner and chef, as well as his son, explained all of the different dishes to us. This was not just an amazing lunch, but we learned a bit about Nepalese culture as well! Let me just start by saying if you haven't been here, DO IT! Went for lunch today and was warmly greeted by a gentleman who let us pick our own seats. The high ceilings and custom Nepal decor really make the most out of their space, and the smell of incense was a lovely accent and put a bow on the overall vibe of the establishment. The gentleman who greeted us felt like the owner, taking great time to walk us through the simple yet authentic menu, explaining each item for us Nepalese newbies; he was hilarious us and so very attuned to each guest that he served. Went in for dinner tonight and was very impressed with the decor and atmosphere. I was instantly greeted and allowed to pick my table for our group. The man who seated me was one of the owners and was incredibly friendly and willing to share all sorts of information about the beer selection while I waited for my family. His wife, another owner, was amazing as well. She went over the menu and all the different items in detail. She shared how many of the items are made fresh in house with local ingredients, which you could tell when eating. Really appreciated both of them for the time spent educating us and their welcoming attitudes. Finally, the food was spectacular. You could tell everything was fresh, it was well seasoned, and incredibly flavorful. I had the beef Thali set and we all shared the Momo platter, both were 10/10. What a wonderful dining experience at Laso in American Canyon! We were tired and hungry after showing at the annual Woofstock Dog Show in Vallejo, and nothing that was open was appetizing and the Thai place we wanted to visit was closed for a family event. On a whim, I just decided to check Yelp for what else was open in the area and Laso came up on our recommended. We hadn't had Himalayan food in a hot minute, so we decided to go check them out. Laso is located right by the Fairfield Inn in a run-down parking lot, but the actual restaurant is well-decorated and clean on the inside. We were the only ones there when we arrived, and it was very quiet inside. We were greeted immediately and our server was warm and welcoming. I started off with a mango lassi, and we went with the steamed beef momos as our appetizer. Both my husband and I wanted to try their thali sets for our entrees, so I chose the chicken and my husband chose the beef. The hand-pulled noodle soups did catch my eye, but I wasn't feeling soup that evening, and instead made a mental note to order the noodle soup the next time we went. The beef momos came out super hot, were super juicy, and the accompanying sauces were delicious. Not shown in the photo of the momos were the two other sauces we added and mixed with the main sauce. We have had thali sets before, so this was nothing new, but our server was super nice and would have explained it to us if we had never had had them. We could absolutely tell the care the staff put into their restaurant and dishes. All components of the thali sets came together cohesively, and I really enjoyed the depth of flavor and tenderness of my chicken. The portions were generous, and we were definitely satiated after our meal. It goes without saying that Himalayan food is on the pricier side, but you can really taste the quality of ingredients that the staff at Laso use. Our dinner at Laso was the perfect ending to a busy day, and we would definitely be back if we were in the area again, and didn't want to eat in Vallejo or drive to Napa. I'd recommend Laso for a different (and delicious) dining experience, and I really want to try the hand-pulled noodle soup next time! read more

Laso is a hidden gem in American Canyon, a great stop for delicious food on your way to or from Napa Valley. The dishes are authentic Nepalese, made fresh to order and are bursting with flavor. My husband and I split the Sel Roti to start and each had our own plate of Chicken Thali. It was deceiving how full we were going to be from those. I loved Laso! We came in expecting high end Asian fusion since that's what most of the Yelp reviews write about. It seems in mid-late 2024 they had a change in menu towards more authentic simple Nepalese cuisine. I really like that change and I'm very happy to hear it's been working well for them! I'd say the restaurant is casual/family friendly. But there are still remnants of fine dining like for example the cloth napkins and plates or the general decor. Walking in it is very welcoming and literally smells delicious. The menu is pretty pared down now to mostly dumplings, thali sets, and noodle soup. But I don't think that takes away from it at all. Everything was so fresh. We ordered the mango lassi, chai, beef momo, beef thali set, and mango ice cream. The mango lassi was so delicious! It is different from the kind you get from an Indian restaurant. It's a bit thinner. But I honestly like it even more! And the chai. I wasn't a huge fan of chai (having only experienced boxed/Starbucks style chai tea before) but I've never had this type of chai before! It's so good! It's so warm and comforting. Great blend of spices. It's like a hug in a cup! The food was honestly so delicious I'm just waiting for an excuse to come back again. Possibly my best discover of 2024? Service was amazing! You really feel welcomed and not rushed at all. It's a great first experience of Nepalese food! The owner was very patient explaining each item to us and making recommendations. What a wonderful meal and an even better experience! The food was incredible and my interaction with (I assume) one of the owners made it feel extra special. The Riki Kur, momos, and Beef Thali were all so flavorful especially the momos, which could honestly stand on their own as the highlight of the meal. This was my first time trying Nepalese food and it's an experience I'll definitely remember. The place was packed, the staff were constantly on the move yet everyone was so kind and welcoming. You could really feel the love and care in everything they did. It's heartbreaking to hear that they'll be closing this week. Momo Platter: I've been wanting to try this place for a while because i love momos. The platter came with Pork, Chicken, Veggie, and Beef: every single one was a banger (panfried). Every single momo was JUICY, even the veggie momo. And surprisingly they were very filling. They took my order over the phone and were very kind and helpful being a first time customer. I came in around 7pm and was excited to see their new menu! The first thing I noticed was their new set up and thought it seemed really cool and mysterious. I was immediately greeted and handed the menus. I've been to Laso prior to their reinvention and it was fascinating to see how different their new menu is. I love the authenticity of each dish and the descriptions were on point. Our waitress was a delight and carefully explained how traditional and tasty each dish is. After some consideration we went with these items: Mango lassi 4.5/5: It was refreshing and tasty, very different from other places but paired great with the dishes. I liked the creaminess and the mango accents in the drink. It also was a good amount of sweetness and wasn't overpowering like some other places. Samosa 5/5: It was very different from the samosas I've tried in the past but their spices tied together so well. I tasted so many spices in each bite that it was like a party, then paired with the 2 sauces was amazing! I'm a sucker for samosa and thought it had the perfect balance of crunch and flavor. Chicken Momo pan fried 5/5: Last time we tried it steamed and typically I've only tried Momos steamed but pan fried was delicious and not too oily! The pan fried method gave it a nice little crunch and paired with their sauces was a chefs kiss. Chicken Dahli 5/5: This dish was so special and gave you a taste of a little bit of everything. I've never tried anything like this before and it was truly a food tour all on 1 dish. There are multiple flavors and they all come together to compliment each other which I thought was amazing. Overall the service was great, the staff is so attentive, informative, and kind. I loved the little descriptions they gave us on our dishes and their attention to detail was greatly appreciated. There isn't many Nepalese restaurants and their authenticity and love for the cuisine really shows. We finally tried this restaurant out. I wish would have done so before. It's kinda tucked away in a small strip center right off the 29 by the Marriott Fairfield Inn in American Canyon. "French fare with a Nepalese twist" is what I read online when looking into Laso. I would agree that this is the best description. The momos were dressed in a tomato sauce with parmesan cheese for example. So many great flavors were developed here. The pakora with mint yogurt were a tied favorite with the roasted brussel sprouts in the shareable menu items. While almost everything was great, I would pass on the half roasted chicken. The skin in the chicken was crispy and flavorful, but the chicken itself was very dry and the vegetable were so soft, they became borderline mush (still good, but too soft for me). Service was excellent, but ambiance could use some improvement. It was a freezing cold night and they had to keep opening the doors because the room became a bit smoky. After all the reviews in our local Facebook group, I added a note to try Laso on my lunch rotation. We were greeted warmly by Ming when we arrived. He was absolutely delightful and made us feel welcome. This exudes from him naturally. We learned a little about the history of Laso and were glad we did. We certainly hope that they will see an uptick in their business. We are certainly lucky to have a Nepalese restaurant here in American Canyon. We ordered Samosas (don't sleep on the tamarind sauce), the Beef Thali Set ( $18 / Traditional Nepali meal with steamed rice, lentil soup, greens, pickle, yogurt and your choice of meat) and the Beef Then Thuk Thali (Hand pulled noodle soup with vegetables and seasoned with Himilayan spices. We really enjoyed our lunch and are excited to come back with our grandson since they have vegan options and capabilities. Large portions, fresh ingredients, reasonable prices. Entrees was the Lugsya Curry, Seafood Pappardelle. And Momos. The curry came with a massive whole lamb shank combined with a delicious curry that paired perfectly with the soft fluffy rice. Pappardelle was nicely cooked with great texture and deep seafood flavor. Even the desserts were made with care. chocolate cake, creme brûlée and cheesecake. My husband, 22 month old and I are stuffed and smiling ear to ear after a wonderful meal here! Dawa kindly walked us through the thoughtfully chosen menu, highlighting kid's favorites. It was hard to choose (we wanted to taste everything!) but loved the samosas (our favorite ever, next to Vik's in Berkley), pan fried momos, and chicken thali. Everything was homemade and you can tell. The flavors of each dish were unique, fresh, and not at all muddled. The house made hot sauces were also delicious! My husband tried the Nepalese lager and loved it, and I treated myself to their chai which was perfectly creamy and not-too-sweet. Dawa also very kindly entertained our kiddo with some singing bowls while we finished eating. We cannot wait to go back, even though we live out in Napa!!! What a gem. read more

Nice experience but I was more impressed with it than my better half - the 4.9 rating definitely got us interested in visiting! The place looked quite inviting, had some Nepalese art on the walls and displayed throughout. Our host Ming was extremely informative and left with us that instead of serving a fusion of Nepalese and French, the current menu would be 100% Nepalese. As most food is quite universal, we saw a number of items that would look quite familiar but with a nice twist. We chose the Samosa (deep fried pastries), Riki Kur (pancakes) and Chicken Momo (dumplings). The latter would give a hint to Taiwanese dumplings but the taste is significantly different plus the spices make them delicious. Pastries were nice but quite small, as expected with a starter and the pancakes were (I think) nice as well but you'd need to add flavor. I'd say, if the portions may have been a tad larger I would have given 5 stars. Highly recommended but be ready to order more than you'd expect! read more

The food was excellent and the service was even better! Ming explained everything on the menu and the traditional way of eating. He even shared some of the regional differences among the villages in the Himalayas by pointing to them on a map on the wall. We had Samosas and Riki Kur for starters, beef Momos, chicken Thali, beef Thali, and chicken Thenthuk for our main dishes and finished off with Lalmohan and Kulfi Nepalese. The menu offerings are limited but had enough variety to satisfy everyone. Some of their herbs are grown in their adjoining garden which adds a nice touch.
