This is a spot that you've got to try. I never knew I liked calzones until someone brought me here for dinner. I was skeptical, and wasn't sure I would like the calzone, but it was unlike anything I've ever had before. It was so gooey and creamy- the blend of cheeses was just perfect. The marinara sauce on the side was sooooo delicious as well. I loveeeee a good tomato sauce! Their pizzas are also really yummy and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. MAKE SURE YOU BRING CASH!! Wow! Cheese pizza is on point. It had been way too long since I'd had such good New York thin crust pizza. Yeah, it's pricey, but they nail the holy trinity of dough, sauce , and cheese -- in terms of both proportions and flavors! I deduct one star because they only do deliveries through DoorDash or Slice. I understand how it might be hard for small businesses to keep full-time delivery staff on payroll, but the delivery "services" are like piranhas! 17% delivery fees are extortion, and benefit neither the business nor the customer, and least of all the delivery bikers, the most exploited of them all! read more

I arrived way beyond when I called as I underestimated my ETA so the pies weren't piping hot but it was still amazing *chefs kiss I saved the leftovers and ate it the next day and it was still fresh. Had an excellent Cheese Pizza at Giuseppina's on Saturday evening. While I was less thrilled with my Calzone and felt adjustments need to be made with the toppings, there is no doubt this is one of the best pizzas I have had. Quality: After a less than appetizing pizza experience the day before, my craving for a high quality pizza continued and so we decided to check out Giuseppina's. And I am glad we did. Their pizza was exactly what I was looking for. Our meal started however with a Small Calzone adding in Sweet And Spicy Sausage. It was a decent Calzone, but not in the same category as their pizza. For me the issues were a slightly underdone dough and not a sweet enough ricotta. There also was not a lot of sausage, which for the price I expected to fill up the Small Calzone. The Cheese Pizza however more than made up for the flaws in the Calzone. It was everything I hope for in my pizza, starting with the magnificent crust. Perfect crunch to softness ratio. Then just a thin layer of sauce and cheese to prevent any sogginess from taking hold. The sauce was just a little sweet and I think balanced a very fresh and tangy mozzarella. Some may argue the pizza is a bit too dry, but I think it works great. Quantity: We ordered more food than we needed, yet still managed to finish it all. I will say adding Sausage to our Calzone was a poor decision as it was expensive for a very small addition. Value: $24 for a Cheese Pizza. $14 for a Small Calzone. $3-$8 for Toppings. Please be aware that they are cash only. Ambiance: Giuseppina's is a pizza spot located south of Park Slope in Brooklyn. It is in a more residential area, so it is not a place that you will just stumble upon. Outside they had five or so tables set up and we ended up selected one against the building. The inside is a very dimly lit space, that seems both classic, but also a little outdated, especially the ceiling lights and fan. Tables fill up the front area and the brick oven sits in very back behind a bar. It seemed like they were allowing some folks to eat inside now, but on a perfect day, outside was the better option. Crowd: We arrived shortly after they opened and were one of only two tables. However, we watched as multiple boxes of pizza were picked up for delivery. The neighborhood spot that is part of the lucali empire is listed on most sites as some of the best pizza in Brooklyn. That is why after dining there with friends I found myself a bit disappointed. It is solid pizza, but for this price in Brooklyn you can do better. A limited menu. Pizza and drinks. 40 bucks for the everything pizza, which includes pepperoni, onion, peppers, mushroom, olives and basil. The sauce is nice and so is the crust. The main problem was that the crust was undercooked and basically raw on the top. Not a good look for a place that only does pizza. Maybe it was an off night. read more

For my money, pizza doesn't get much better than this. It's not the doughy bread with sauce and cheese you get across the rest of the country. It's not the huge, floppy $1 slices that make you sad immediately after you finish the last, floury bite. It's not the excellent Neapolitan pies being turned out by places like Paulie Gee's and Sottocasa. This is Brooklyn pizza at its finest. The crust is thin, but not cracker; it's got a nice chew, and is topped with unimpeachable sauce, excellent cheese and the freshest toppings in the city. Get what you want, but know that you don't need any of it except the garlic and basil, which are free. ALWAYS get the garlic and basil. That's all you need for an essentially perfect pie, but I suppose a little pepperoni never hurt anyone either. As can be expected with its affiliation, this place has many similarities with Lucali. The service is casual but attentive, and old-school enough to still call us "youse guys." The atmosphere is perfect for a date, but convivial enough for a group dinner. The menu is pleasantly simple, with nothing but pies and calzones. More important are the differences; unlike Lucali, they have beer and wine here (positive or negative, depending how you look at it), and there's not nearly the same wait. If you can make it to the South Slope, there's no reason not to treat yourself to some of the best pizza around. On my last visit, my appetite wasn't what it normally is. A dog was being walked outside the front door and dropped a dookie. My family and I are a party of 5. We add our name to the list, 1/2 hour wait we're told. Not a problem! I win :D We all sit down and I order a bottled Italian beer. No beer taps at Giuseppina's. We order two pizzas, a Margarita and a pizza with prosciutto, shallots and portobello mushrooms. Oh yeah, add LOTS OF BASIL! The restaurant mysteriously clears out. There is no one in the restaurant except a couple sitting behind us. The waitress comes over. I'm so sorry, we're out of Basil. WHAT?? The couple behind us? Gets their pizza LOADED with basil. Hmm... Our pizza comes out without basil and my Brooklyn-French-Canadian wife starts getting antsy: The Shallots aren't totally cooked, the cheese has no oil or taste, the oven has this "Burst" of flame, its a wood-gas hybrid and more importantly, there is no basil! We get the bill, $75 bucks?!?!?! I'm assuming the owner comes over and says I'm sorry we ran out of basil. (Thats because the other table got ALL the remaining basil, you could have split it 3 ways..) Also, how does an Italian restaurant/pizza place not have any salad? Have a mozzarella/tomato/basil app, regular tossed salad, some semblance of a salad would be awesome! If you've ever witnessed Dom from Di Fara assemble a Brooklyn pizza. He drizzles olive oil on the pizza as well as cuts fresh basil over the top. I know Giuseppina's is related to the Lucali chain. Hey, everyone has a weird auntie.. Giuseppina, you got the crust right. As for the price and running out of basil on a busy Saturday night, charging us full price and not offering us a appetizer (oh wait, you don't have any) the best I can give you is a 3 star yelp review. I would rate Giuseppina's four and a half stars. Giuseppina's is amongst NY's premier neapolitan style pizzerias. The quality of the ingredients here stands out the most to me. We had a simple pie with fresh basil and artichoke hearts. The basil was especially flavorful. The bitterness and sweetness of the herb was quite prominent. They were very generous with the basil. The pie must have had five or six stem ends with four or five leaves off each stem plus many more leaves. We definitely got our monies worth of basil! The artichoke hearts were great too. They were full pieces not just tiny bits. They charred very well in the oven. Giuseppina's has a thin crust pizza; likely a young dough. It's soft, a little crispy yet sturdy. There were a couple air pockets on top of the pizza but not any that I noticed in the crust. The dough retained a simple and reserved char from the oven. It allowed the ingredients to be the highlights of the pizza. The atmosphere was casual and romantic. They had dim lighting. There was plenty of space between tables providing for an intimate atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The service was quick and we had absolutely no wait. read more

Love this place! Our go-to is a pepperoni pie and a small calzone - almost too much food. I love the cup and char style of pepperoni they use. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with the staff making the pizza right at a large marble counter that has giant candlesticks. We eat here minimum once a month, more when we're in the mood. Only thing I would like to see is a salad on the menu, but they might not be set up for that with kitchen space. This is my favorite thin crust pizza period. I've been coming here for years. Me and my husband went for an early dinner last night. Maybe it was the holiday weekend or the fact that the owner wasn't there but the pizza fell short of their perfect standards. The cheese to sauce ratio was a bit off and made the pizza drier than usual. The crust was still perfectly crispy and thin but like I said I'm used to perfection from these guys. We haven't been in a few months and now the basil and garlic toppings are a buck each. They used to be free. They also upped their prices on the wine bottles. Guiseppina's is top down my favorite local pizza spot. Their crust is thin & crispy, the sauce is pronounced, & all of their toppings are fresh and flavorful. The only reason that I am giving them a 3-star rating is because they frequently get my order wrong, especially when I order delivery. Often (and this isn't an understatement) one or more of the toppings that I order are missing. This isn't a huge deal because the pizza is so good, but it really adds up! I think they just need to read the orders more carefully and perhaps double check before handing over the pie to the delivery person. read more

Been wanting to come to Lucali forever now but was never thrilled about waiting hours for pizza. But what's this - another restaurant brought to you by the same family but without the long wait times? Sold! I convinced my buddy (who might I add is not as adventurous as me when it comes to traveling for food) to come here after our time spent at Other Half in Carroll Gardens. Although, it was quite the walk, we arrived just after 5 which is when they open on Saturdays. We were the first ones in the restaurant, quickly served drinks (they are BYOB) and ordered a pizza - half w/cheese and half w/prosciutto and artichokes. One thing other than the pizza that really stood out for me was the fact that you can watch them assemble your pizza since the oven is practically in the middle of the restaurant. I'm also happy to report that the dough is rolled out using a wine bottle, a practice that is used at Lucali by owner Mark Iacono. We get the pizza in no time, I snap my pic and we devour it. Perfectly cooked crust, delicious mozzarella cheese and sauce that my buddy and I both agreed we would drink straight up if we could. The artichokes were perfectly cooked and crisp and the prosciutto, well as prosciutto always is, was delectable. I'll go on record of saying this is in my top 5 as far as favorite pizza goes. I wish I lived around the corner but sadly live almost 2 hours away. Good thing they are only a mile away from my favorite Brooklyn brewery, which means I will most certainly be back. read more

Table service by the two people who intermittently served us was also rude and unprofessional especially when paying $39 for each of our 4x pizzas. If you want the exact same pie as Lucali's without the line, this is the joint. Nothing else to say really cuz Lucali really does live up to the hype and this place is equally as good. Guiseppina's is a bit tough to get to without a car, so you need to take the F/G or hoof it to South Slope. However, If this place was in Carroll Gardens it would be packed every single day and would give Lucali a run for its money. The ambience is similar to Lucali with the lighting, rolling dough with wine bottles, the rat pack on the stereo etc. It's the perfect pizza restaurant that most folks don't even know about.
