I am a fan of Geraldine and her Counter. We love brunch here and recently came in celebration of L's 29 +2 Birthday. We arrived around 10:45 and had a bit of a wait. We were 8th on the list but were able to enjoy the corner with all the other hungry brunchers. We were seated within 20 minutes and were greeted warmly by our server. Half of us ordered coffee (strong, black, and hot) and the other half enjoyed Mimosa's. I was in the Mimosa camp and had a lovely citrus effervescent beverage experience. I had an order of the counter special - eggs any style, toast, chicken-sausage, hash-browns, and fruit. Delicious at $8.50. The toast is from fancy crusty bread, my scrambled eggs were fluffy and hearty, and I very much enjoyed my fennely apple chicken sausage. Others in my party ordered biscuits and gravy (thumbs up), and the breakfast casserole. Everyone was very pleased with their order. We thought that the hash-browns might have been better had they been a bit less peppery. I love the sense of community that I feel when I dine at Geraldine's. Everyone is kind of scoonched in to a bright and cheery space. The decor on the walls is fun and it certainly perks you up for the rest of the day (or maybe that was the Mimosa!) read more

Extremely busy little place. There must be a reason why everybody in Seattle is driving down to Columbia City for breakfast. I had initially wanted to eat at the Hangar Café, but they were having issues in the kitchen so I decided to drive over to Geraldine's Counter. Despite the crowd mingling out front, parking was easy to find and I was seated at the counter within a few minutes. This is one of the perks of dining alone. I have no qualms or criticisms of the service and food. Both were adequate. I was served water soon after sitting down and within a few minutes had decided to order the Geraldine's casserole While waiting, I was entertained by the rapid pace of the staff and found it somewhat unusual that the kitchen consisted primarily of Latinos while the front of the house was primarily white. At any rate, they were a great team of people and made everything look easy. Word of warning, if you ever order the casserole don't touch the plates. They cook it in the oven and then serve it to you when it is about 5,000 degrees. Besides almost melting my fingers off, everything was excellent. Their jam is very good and my casserole - while not particularly flavorful - was a fluffy and cheesy masterpiece. If you are patient person or can find a way to be seated in less than an hour (on busy days), I highly recommend Geraldine's Counter for some of the best breakfast you will find Seattle. read more

The food is amazing!!!! Perfect portions, love the seasonal options, and they have great morning cocktails. Service is so great, they are quick to check in on you and make sure everything is great. This place is packed, and I can see why. read more

Great place for breakfast or lunch! Descent and very busy during peak hours. Wait times are minimal during weekdays, but can be a while during weekend brunch hours. The wait is worth it with the amazing food on the menu. Emerald City Scramble was very delicious. The pork sausage, hash browns, spinach, sweet bell peppers, onions, eggs and pepper jack are combined into one plus you get toast! Fresh ingredients that are so cheesy good. Three Pancakes of the Day was yummy. Freshly made pancakes topped with butter that has citrus pieces that melts. The 100% pure maple syrup makes every bite awesome. read more

Good food, our waitress was pretty rude though. I have food allergies (not made up ones. Ive gone to the doctor and been tested and have an epipen. They're pretty severe too.) I simply asked our server if there was soy in the food and received a snarky response and an eye roll. I let it go but then she decided to roll her eyes again when I asked another question (side note: saying "we serve Whole Foods here" doesn't answer whether or not your food contains soy. I avoid soybean oil as well) Anyways, I tried to explain the situation and that I wasn't trying to make her job difficult, just trying to keep up with what I was eating. She proceeded to get really aggressive and being a really awful server the rest of the time there. Not sure what her issue was. Other than that though, everyone was great. Side note: never asked anyone to bring out every individual ingredient to read. Your waitress acted psycho and I'm sure I'm not the first to complain. Thanks. read more

Honestly it's good but it's pretty standard breakfast...No real wow factor besides the french toast was pretty tasty and I'm pretty picky about that. Great service but for the line you have to wait in, you would think the food tasted like gold lol...Yes good but would cross the street to Island Soul before going here again. read more

OH MY JONAS! It is so worth the wait for a killer weekend breakfast! Is it bad that I only ever get one thing? The herbed omelette had me at hello, then it broke up with me when I tasted somebody else's pancakes, and then we made up when I licked my own plate clean. The staff are phenomenal. They are so fun, attentive and diverse that you wonder why other businesses don't follow suit. Thank you Geraldine for always surpassing our expectations and making us feel welcome! read more

Geraldine's Counter was on my list of places to try for their all day breakfast. We headed over to "lunner" on a Sunday. Even though it was past lunch time, the restaurant was full and they were seating people right up until closing. It was busy!!!! Staff seems overwhelmed and not all that friendly. They were able to work with the vegan. They have several vegetarian options. We had 2 sandwiches and 2 breakfast items. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Unfortunately, the seasoning on the chicken fried steak was not to the eater's enjoyment and it made it the level of enjoyment a little less. Artwork around dining room is very nice and for sale. read more

Was here visiting from out of town and we googled this place, the wait was long and it was a holiday so we were happy they were even open. The service was good, we sat at the bar stools and I believe our servers name was David, middle aged gentleman with no facial hair. He was very helpful, occommodating, and helpful with the menus selections. I ordered the French toast of the day which was peach French toast, I had eggs and chicken sausage patties. My other half ordered pancakes with strawberry butter, hash browns and eggs over medium. I will admit the sausage was not to my liking, however the service and food more then made up for it. I have never had French toast that amazing, and I have gone to a multitude of breakfast restaurants and this one has my heart, kudos to the staff and cooks, well done!!! read more

I do think this place is serving quality food but I need to inform people of the style of French Toast. It is far from typical so hopefully this will help you decide if it is for you. I love French toast and almost always order it when I'm out for breakfast but I found it is not my style here. They use sourdough bread which was a very prominent taste. There is not much eggyness (is that a word?) and no spices like cinnamon or nutmeg. It is also deep fried but it was not greasy or oily so had no issue with that. So it was crisp on the outside and soft inside. If you are like me and like eggy cinnamon with normal griddle cooking and maybe a nice thick challah bread this is NOT the French Toast for you. If you want something unique with a strong sourdough flavor please give this a try. Super nice staff and clean place I just wont ever get French toast here again. read more

Simply a good breakfast spot :) the menu is good but I'm really not the biggest fan of their French toast as I prefer a softer, brioche type of bread (it's a bit more crispy). The service is always great! Get there as soon as you can because there is always a wait. read more

My first time at Geraldine's and I was impressed. They have a lot of seating which is not common in busy cities in older neighborhoods. I ordered a strawberry lemonade and the chicken pot pie. My drink was just the right amount of sweet to tart, it was very refreshing and made me long for summer. The chicken pot pie is non traditional as it's more of a chicken vegetable soup with a biscuit on top. It was still tasty, but I would have liked more herbaceous flavors. As they weren't going for a roux base something like thyme could enhance it or maybe I just needed to add salt. The surprise for me was their French toast. I personally don't eat French toast as it's usually soggy and eggy. The French toast was neither of those things I despise. It was crispy sourdough with cinnamon, sugar, with maple syrup and cinnamon apples that all combined for perfection. Even when I ate it lukewarm I was saddened I didn't just order that. But it was 30 degrees outside! Lesson learned, they should change the name to French toast to die for or something to that effect because it was that delicious. The service was friendly but a bit on the slow end during an early lunch. read more

Great brunch and worth the wait. The French Toast is their signature dish and it was easy to see why. Great texture and flavor especially if you like crunchy and not too sweet. The Cobb salad was a little too large, but very flavorful. The spiked coffee was also good. The vegan options weren't awesome, but the avocados were fresh and flavorful. Service was very friendly. read more

Warm goodness, foodalicious flavors and righteous menu options. This is the place when you decide you want to go home, but have been kicked out by a mother who has decided that you have had enough to eat, but you still want more, but have no idea how to cook food that tastes amazing. There I said it; because here lays a bastion of breakfast delights, a cozy homely welcoming feel, diner yet not, all at the same time. Casseroles for breakfast? Why Yes! They have made breakfast into what people should smack a bottom dinner style delight. Oh my, it's not a small portion, so if you come here, and you will, it will make you happy. Look, you have egg, cheese, sausage, Pico de gallo, among other things delights, in a casserole. Does it smell good, well the verdict is that if you walk out of the place without finishing, I will hunt you down and smack some love into you. What I'm trying to say is it's a Yummy slice of heaven. What else? How about their French Toast, which are not wussy slices of bread, instead they are large cut pieces of bread, cooked wonderfully, with soft pear on top and of course naturally made maple syrup. It comes with fruit, but the delight is really when you bite into a piece, and you tear up and cry just a little. I saw a ton load of menu items I wanted to try, however my car sitting in a 1hour spot, I had to be, in and out.. but trust when I say, there will be many return visits, and those shall be epic... (I saw mac and cheese, and thou should be mine soon). Recommendation: Come early, and often, and enjoy, because you will, it is American food, made with a classic taste, and modern twist. Eat away, because you will find out why all the locals call this place a favorite. read more

This place has a local feel to it. You feel like you're in a 1960's home dinner. The service was excellent and they constantly refill your coffee mug for you, which is a dream of you like coffee black and a nightmare if you're OCD about getting the perfect ratio of cream, sugar, and coffee. I ordered the French toast, one of their specialities. My wife loved it because it was crunchy and said it was the best French toast she's ever had. I like my French toast more moist and less crunchy. If you're in Columbia City, I recommend this place. read more

There's a bit of a wait on weekends but today will be the last time I come here. Seattle has lots of brunch options so I will not waste my time again on underwhelming food and borderline rude service. I've been here a couple times because I really liked the French toast but today my boyfriend made me realize that its nothing special. Their French toast (11.50) is 3 slices of sourdough deep fried without any type of batter on it and then topped with a little bit of fruit. Overpriced. The chicken fried steak and eggs (14.00) that has tons of people raving. Mediocre. The hash browns were not crispy, its like they only browned the top and the inside is completely white. The chicken fried steak was not crispy or crunchy and was a thin piece of meat. The eggs were fine, at least they got that part right. read more

It seems kind of silly to leave another review, since there are already so many! But I felt our great experience warranted it! I love that this place has all the classics but they are "turned up" a bit. We ordered one of the special pancakes for an appetizer. Was a granola pancake and blueberry compote. I'm not usually a compote fan, but this was not super sugary. I ordered the breakfast sandwich, which was HUGE! Also the most delicious bacon I probably have ever had. I couldn't finish it, but tried my hardest. The potatoes on the side were also delicious and perfectly crisp and not too greasy. My husband got the special scramble and also loved it. We sat at the counter and our coffee was refilled promptly. Would definitely recommend to all and we will be back! read more

In my opinion this is the best place for breakfast in seattle. It's small though so you definitely want to come early, the food is amazing!

Consistently good food and always friendly service. Long lines on the weekends but worth the wait if you have the time!

So...this place is loved and beloved by this community. In Seattle on holiday and this bruncherie was in our neighborhood. Walked past twice learning the area and there was a line both times. I was sold. Went in for a brunch/lunch and we were not disappointed. Generous portion sizes is what keeps this place worshipped. Went in hungry and left out fat as a pig. My sister had the biscuit and gravy--amazing! I had a Geraldine version of the Rueben. I am a snooty Rueben lover and I eat them everywhere. This was thier take on a Rueben. Depending on what you like...this may not be a safe bet. I like sour flavorful ruebens with lots of sauerkraut on toasted rye with rich corned beef. They had a huge portion of beef so I can't complain I was hungry but not a thing in the sandwich had any flavor(only reason it's not a 5). I dumped like 3 tbsp of tobacco sauce on it just to have some tastebud excitement. Just setting expectations for this sandwich. I wouldnt get again but I think this place is awesome at what they do and will keep doing amazing things for this neighborhood and community here in Seattle. read more

I frequent here as much as possible. It's such a friendly neighborhood spot with incredibly welcoming and hard working staff. Sometimes I go for their seasonal mimosas as well! I've always been more than satisfied :) read more

I went here with two other friends and we mainly were there to see if the french toast lived up to its name. IT DID. I have no idea how they get it so crispy on the outside and yet still soft on the inside. The rotating fruit topping as peaches, although our server said it was pears but maybe he thinks peaches are pears?! =D It was still delicious. We all got the Slammin' breakfast because it came with your choice of sausage/bacon, eggs, and pancakes which we substituted the french toast for only $1 more, what a deal! We all got scrambled eggs and, again, I don't know how they keep the eggs so moist without scrambling it into little tiny pieces. I wish I had room for their biscuits gravy because I read that's the other thing they are known. We paid in cash and received some "geraldine bucks" for next time, so I will get to come back and get more toast and my biscuits gravy! read more

Best french toast in town! And so far, best french toast ever for me. :) Super crunchy and flavorful with seasonal toppings. I get it ever time I'm here. The rest of the food is pretty good as well, but not really memorable for me. But nothing I ate here was bad so far. The restaurant probably deserves just 4-stars overall, but I'm going to give it a 5 because of their awesome french toast and because food and service overall is consistently good. Be prepared for a long wait and large crowds during the weekend brunch hours though. read more

Arrived around 11:30AM, and waited atleast 30 minutes to get seated. The place was super packed and everyone was smushed together at the front door. Ordered the "Slamming" with french toast. The dish cost an extra $2.75 to replace regular toast with french toast making the dish cost about $15 which I thought was overpriced. The french toast is probably the best i've ever had. So so crispy and sweet. I loved it! Next time i'll order just the french toast. read more

This is usually a solid breakfast joint for us. Their french toast is my favorite thing there as they are crunchy on the outside and soft inside. They also come topped with some sort of fruit: peaches soaked in honey, blueberry compote, etc. I visited today and their topping was honey soaked peaches, which happened to be the topping the last few times I've been in--they're not bad, but I want something else. Since they're so busy in the morning hours, service can be iffy. Today the server forgot that we ordered french toast instead of pancakes, but she let us keep the whole plate pancakes and all instead of taking it all away. read more

This place feels like the neighborhood diner that you just walk in and take in all the bustle and activity happening around the place. You soak it all in and suddenly you feel really alive. Went here for brunch on Saturday morning. Walked in and the place won me over with the way you can just walk over to the wait list and add your name to the list. Simple and really cool. The ambiance is simple and the place is well lit with a lot of natural light and sitting the bar counter you get to see all the hustle and bustle inside the kitchen. For food we ordered the French toast, a side order of bacon, a side order of biscuit and gravy, and emerald scrambled. The scrambled was good but the French toast was one of the best I have had with the bread being amazingly crisp on the outside which was served with a topping of cinnamon apple - absolutely exquisite, the bacon and biscuit and gravy sides also deserve a special recommendation. The bacon was think and cooked just right not too crisp not too soft and the gravy was simple and delicious. Ordering just would definitely not something I would rule out for the next time. The service was spot on. My friend added sugar free to hear coffee and they replaced the cup and poured a fresh cup without any hesitation. They were upfront with their recommendations and it was great. No frills just simple and efficient service. read more

Geraldine's Counter - Saturday noon brunch... - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Apparently this place is one of the best restaurant in Seattle because of their famous brunch items, my family and I decided to go and try it out two weeks ago. When we got there sure enough! there was a waiting list, we asked the hostess how long is the waiting she said like about 45 minutes and my daughter asked her is there a way for them to get a hold of us when the table was ready which she said "you need to be here your table is not going to be waiting for you" that kind of response kinda throw me off and the only reason we asked is because some places they ask you to write your phone number down and they call you when your table is ready anyways, we went for a walk and came back. I was in shock that when our table was ready the same hostess lady approached me with the menus and said in Spanish "go seat at the corner table" she didn't bother to escort us to our table like she was doing with everyone else, my family looked at me with a total surprise look and said, do you know her? Why is she treating us so different than everyone else? I told them not let that get to them and just enjoy the place and the food. We ordered the famous French toast which was delicious, my daughter ordered bacon, eggs and arugula sandwich which was ok I ordered eggs a la mexicana that didn't convinced me and we also ordered the Mac N cheese for the kids. After we were done that same lady came to our table to make sure that we were not writing on the wall. I told her that we liked the food and the only thing that I would suggest is that the food needs a little more flavor, she immediately reacted defensively and said "that's how we do it here" she didn't even let me explain my self, she didn't even acknowledge when I told her that I'm an executive chef at Seattle yacht club. All I wanted is to give a constructive feed back but instead I got shut down. I called the restaurant several times and unfortunately all I got was an answering machine, I decided to leave a voicemail to the manager or the owner to express my experience but I haven't heard from anyone until now. read more

I can't wait to go back! -Half order of cinnamon apple pancakes: small cakes, fluffy, not soggy, not too sweet, great size. -Side of hash browns, side of sausage gravy, side of Isernios pork sausage patty: yummy and a good value. -Corned beef hash: nice chunks of meat goodness that you can actually see. Potatoes were larger cubes, which I actually liked. -Feta spinach scramble with toast and hash browns. Nicely cooked and a big serving. One third went home in a little box.
