Great Seafood Spot!! Everything was delicious and made to order. Floured and fried as soon as you order. I had a Shrimp Po'Boy sandwich with Sweet Potato Fries and coleslaw. Also had a cup of their amazing clam chowder. Place was very clean and organized. Service was very fast and friendly. They had a small seating area inside and some large picnic tables outside. There was plenty of parking. read more

Our second Fish and Chips tasting in Seattle. Little mom and pop shop. We got there late so the place was pretty empty. There are picnic benches but more like a grab n go kind of place. We wanted to try their fish and chips but they happen to serve Seafood gumbo on some days. I am a sucker for gumbo but most of the places outside of NOLA had let me down big time. So I hesitated. I decided to asked for a spoon of gumbo to sample before I order a cup. The young man at the counter started scooping a cup, yes, a real cup so I figured he heard me wrong. When I asked how much, he replied, free for you. Really?! Awesome!!! Now my husband and son's turn, ok, they ordered like there's no tomorrow and below is how I ranked them. Seafood Gumbo - OMG, other than a little saltier for my taste, it is on point. As good as it can get. Highly recommended. Clam chowder- not bad but gumbo was way better. Fried chicken- was alright. Crab puppies - yummy Fried calamari- tough and chewy Fishes - soggy way too dried Salmon - very light battered which were great but fish were dried. Way over fried. Shrimps - over fried and dried Clam strips - too dried Chips - all were soggy even though we asked for extra crispy. Slaw - crisp and tasty. I rather eat this than the soggy fries/chips. I would definitely return for the seafood gumbo and crab puppies. read more

The Emerald City Fish & Chips is a black-owned business that I did purposely go because it is black-owned. I believe in supporting minority businesses when possible. The restaurant is a little place mostly for takeout with very limited seating. Because we live farther, we opted to eat there getting seats along the window counter seating. Service was very friendly, and we somehow ended up with extra food. I am not complaining. :D The Food: Oyster Po'Boy, $17.95 - 5 Stars This sandwich is our favorite bite of the night. Plump pieces of oysters are well stacked with the veggies in the roll. The regular fries are excellent; these are better than sweet potato fries. Salmon (3) and Chips, $15.95 - 4 Stars Our order is supposed to be 3 pcs, but they gave us a pile! They are a bit dry, though. I am guessing salmon overcooks easily when deep fried. Next time, we'll stick with cod. We upgraded to sweet potato fries which turned out to be not that good; they were soft and limp. We'll stick with regular fries in the future. My rating reflects extra food despite not as good as I hoped. Crab Puppies (6) and Chips, $9.95 - 3.5 Stars We also received extra food with this order, maybe 8 pieces. These were a bit burnt with extra toastiness. I am a sucker for anything that says crab, even though I know the flavor doesn't stand out well. It was true in this case, too. I liked them sufficiently as slightly burnt, flat-ish hush puppies (plus crispy fries). Textually, I prefer round hush puppies which have a balance of crispy skin vs the inside. read more

Food was hot, fresh made to order and seasoned to perfection. Staff was pretty straightforward to additional conversation but did answer questions Bluntly and thanked me coming. Clean restaurant quick service. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have reasonable prices and a great variety of. I had oysters and fries and catfish and fries. All were seasoned well. The oysters looked a little burnt but everything was tasty. read more

Solid fish and chips spot. Came here on a Wednesday evening and it was empty. The restaurant filled up very quick after we ordered though. There's little amount of indoor dining and two tables to eat outside. We opted for the latter for more space. We ordered the sampler platter and a small (salmon) chowder. Food came out after about 15 minutes. The halibut, cod, clam, and shrimp pieces were good, but the catfish and salmon were on the dryer side. I also wasn't a fan of the crab puppies. The fries were good though. I also wasn't too fond of the salmon chowder. I had high expectations for it but it fell short. A bit too salty and I wish there were bits of salmon or something. It was just straight up liquid. Service was ok. Not sure if I'd return. read more

I've driven by Emerald City Fish & Chips a few times now and remember reading about how good this place is so when we needed lunch and were nearby, I remembered this place and stopped in. We shared a 3 piece cod and chips and a large chowder. It's nice they give a senior discount when you are over 60 (yikes!). The service was quick and friendly and we got our food quickly. The fish is cooked up perfectly with a golden crust and was delicious. They serve it with their house tartar sauce and a very small side of coleslaw. The chowder was very hearty and tasty as well. Everything here was good and, even though seating inside is limited, they had a few outdoor tables which helped. We at outside and another group joined us and we made friends with them. Bonus. Give this small business a try next time you're in Rainier Valley. I'll definitely come back again. read more

This is a simple counter but with a steady stream of local customers. We enjoyed the piping hot and fresh fish and chips! It definitely made to order and I appreciated that it wasn't over battered. The coleslaw was light without too much mayo - I wish we had been able to eat more! Pricing was $19 for 5 pieces of cod, with higher prices for salmon and halibut. I asked the woman behind the counter if she thought our order would be enough for our family, and she snapped back "How am I supposed to know how much your family eats??" Her daughter was a pleasure though, and cleared space for us to eat at, offered lemons, and brought our food directly to us. read more

Affordable, very good portions and quick service, just gets packed quick and little seating inside. Service was friendly and quick too. We had the cod and the halibut, both were good! It comes with coleslaw and fries. The coleslaw wasn't my personal favorite, it's just not as wet as I'd like it but it had some extra ingredients in it that I thought was interesting. Fries and fish were perfectly crispy. Would 100% come here again! read more

The batter has Cajun seasoning which was good but the fish, prawn, and clams were not fresh. I do like the sauce and fries were crispy. Fish and chips starting at $10 is good price. You just ordered at the counter, there are few seats inside and there is patio tables. There is small parking lots, I think there are four spots. Service was good. read more

Felt like some fish and drove by this place....and had to turn around. Walking inside it's small and has a long table with maybe 4-5 seats for seating and that's it. Outside has seating to eat your food too. The menu is descent with food choices. I ordered a 3 Piece Alaskan Cod and comes with Fries and Cole Slaw. I also bought a Buttermilk Pie. Alaskan Cod was good....Cole Slaw was ok....Buttermilk Pie wasn't bad. If you're in the area swing by. read more

Wow, if you're craving a po' boy or fish n chips, this is the place. Tried the Alaskan Cod with fries; the 2 piece was perfect. Breading slightly spicy and not too heavy. Would have loved a larger sized portion of the Cole slaw because it was fantastic, made with a vinegar dressing vs Mayo. Some seating but seems to cater more to take out. Worth a stop. read more

We got the fish and chips to go and tried both the salmon and cod. Both were delicious! The fish was perfectly cooked with a crispy, flavorful coating, and the fries were great too. We really enjoyed both choices and will definitely be back! read more

We had just been to a fair and were really craving some fish and chips from one of the food trucks there, but by the time we got there, it was already closed. So, we started looking for the best fish and chips in Seattle and found Emerald City Fish and Chips, which had great reviews. We decided to give it a try, and it was totally worth it! The fish came out fresh, hot, and crispy you could really taste the flavor of the fish. We ordered the catfish and fries, the fish was excellent, though I felt the fries could've been a bit better. What really stood out was the owner, such a nice guy! Even though he was busy cooking, he still took time to chat with people, which made the whole experience feel really warm and personal. If you're ever in the mood for some classic, delicious fish and chips with a friendly local vibe, this place is definitely worth checking out! *****Rating***** Fish - 5/5 Owner -5/5 Freshness 5/5 read more

My first Fish and Chips experience at Seattle Washington was here! I saw the raving reviews for this place so decided to try it. It's a smaller establishment but it does have its own parking space-- there are about 4 designated parking spots for Emerald City Fish & Chips. There is inside seating as well but since the weather was great we took a seat at a table outside. For Seattle price, a 5 piece Alaskan Cod Fish and Chips ended up being around 21$ after tax. The fish have thin breading and the chips were about as expected. The dish came with malt vinegar packets and some coleslaw on the side. Generally a good experience! It came out fairly fast and water is complimentary. read more

Fast friendly service. I'm always a big advocate of going during slightly off-peak hours. Parking lot is tiny. I try to hit them up when I'm doing some shopping at Safeway and just walk over from there. It's a little awkward to get in and out of the spots that are theirs on the corner. The catfish is where it's at as far as I'm concerned. Delicious. If you can't make it at home or just don't want to deal with frying up a storm, this is the next best thing to homemade. read more

In Seattle and searching for good fish and chips, we kept getting directed to Emerald City Fish and Chips in Mount Baker. It was across town, but we like an adventure. Little did we know what awaited us. We arrived to a small dive with maybe 10 seats for a mainly take-out fish stand. We were not overly impressed, but have been surprised before, so we gave them a shot. We ordered fried cod with fries, calamari rings with fries and crab puppies. The crab puppies were alleged hush puppies with crab stuffed inside. I never did visualize or taste any crab meat. Everything was fried and extra sauce was an additional 50 cents. As we waited for our order and scoped out a potential seat, I noted a large bag of frozen fries being dumped into the fryer. I should have followed my gut. The food was served quickly with little flavor and left me yearning for some bit of seasoning. It was also a bit greasy. We did not finish the food and left quickly. I went back to Yelp and noted a 4.2 rating. How could this be? The Seattle magazine, free to tourists, touted the food. I just got lazy and wanted to find that small shop, a diamond in the rough, THIS IS NOT THAT PLACE. To those who love this place, power to you. I am not one to return. read more

Very impressed by this spot! Recommended by a friend, we went in and got a sampler and the owner was super understanding about our dietary restrictions. So if you're Muslim, this is definitely a spot to support! They fry in canola oil, the seafood is not beer-batter based, and they swapped out the catfish for a different fish for us with no problem. Super appreciative of businesses who are transparent and willing to swap things around. Interior is on the smaller side with only some bar stools but there's two picnic tables outside. Most people seemed to be taking food away. Parking is limited out front bc it's shared by a few other businesses. read more

came in cause this spot was featured on worth it's show :) i asked what fish the staff would recommend, which was cod. they also have a ton of great options for fish for their chips at different price points, cod, catfish, salmon, prawn, etc. even chicken, if you're bringing someone who isn't into fish (for some reason). now hoooly, this was good fish. as background, i've never been the biggest fan of fish and chips in general, i had it at a "famous" spot in london and was unenthused by the dish for a long while. recently, i've been hunting places in seattle for a good fish and chips meal after moving here though, and this spot really captured my heart and i'm definitely an enjoyer. super flavorful fish with a light, crisp, and flakey crust, can't even make this up, it was a perfect light fry in my opinion. great flavor coming through as well with plenty of moisture retained in the cod. and the chips (or fries, for the uninitiated) were so bomb as well. frankly, i found the cajun? dusting to be an incredible add and the texture was incredible on these. each order also comes with a coleslaw which went well with the fried items, and i found the 3 piece to be a sufficient size for a small-medium meal at a great price for the cod. overall just such a great experience here, i will definitely be back to try the catfish and salmon, and just like in worth it, probably will give the chowder a shot too. ambiance wise, there's a small parking lot with reasonable amounts of parking and the shop has a handful of seats indoor and outdoor, was kept really nice and i love the neighborhood go-to spot vibe. staff were also very nice! overall: 10/10 taste: 10/10 price: 10/10 honestly, it hasn't gotten better than this in my experience with fish and chips. read more

Experience: -10 Food: +2.5 A friend and i walked in and were instantly welcomed with an unwelcoming... what are you doing here? from the fry cook. He then turned to the other two workers and asks "Why are they here? He then said he wasn't going to cook us mother F'ers food. He did not like the look of us. They got into an argument inside the restaurant, which was directed at us. The argument went out into the parking lot where the cook eventually had enough, hopped into his car and skirted out of there. The two came back inside took our order and made our food. The fish that came out was very thin and very mid. The food probably should have been comped, but it wasn't. My friend has gone back again recently and he said nobody quit or got into an argument because of his presence and the food was better, but still mid. Craziest worst restaurant experience of my life. If racism can go more than one way, this definitely felt racist. I wish I had filmed it. This was a couple years ago, yelp said it was okay to post. read more

I can't believe how many times I've driven by and never tried this place. Today I'm glad that I made the right choice to stop in. Atmosphere is clean and in a location to catch anyone's eye. The salmon was crispy on the outside, moist and flaky on the inside. It had a nice, light seasoning that didn't overpower the natural flavor of the fish. The sweet potato fries were also a hit, crispy edges, soft centers, and just the right amount of salt. They paired perfectly with the house tartar sauce. Service was friendly and pretty fast. A solid choice for fish and chips. We had the Sampler Platter for a family picnic. Shrimp, clams, cod, catfish, salmon, crab puppies with fries and coleslaw. Well cooked with each fish maintaining it's individuality. My daughter's favorite was the clams which were crunchy outside and still tender. While good, I liked the cod and crab puppies. The fries had a nice bite and flavor. The breading on all the fish was light and thin. Fabulous and friendly service. read more

Food: 5/5 Service: 1/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 I'll start with the positive -- the fish and chips were genuinely good. But unfortunately, the customer service experience left a lot to be desired and I can't in good conscience rate service higher. I ordered the halibut and chips and paid in full, including a 10% tip. After payment, the server came back to inform me they were out of halibut and asked if I'd be okay switching to cod. I agreed -- I was hungry! What happened next was the problem. The server proceeded to change my order without issuing a refund for the price difference. I had to be the one to bring it up! When I did, both the server and chef were at a complete loss -- neither knew how to process a refund or offer any meaningful resolution. I was left waiting for my food while they made no attempt to resolve the issue. To management and ownership: please invest in training your staff on basic transaction handling and customer service fundamentals. When a mistake happens -- and mistakes always happen (I get it) -- your team should know how to make it right. A simple refund or a complimentary item goes a long way. I understand $7 may seem small, but in this day and age we are all working hard to make a living. That's exactly why I tipped 10% before my food even arrived -- because I respect the work. That same respect should be extended to the customer. When it isn't, it's hard to come back or recommend this place to others, no matter how good the food is. read more

Emerald City is a fantastic, local option for fish n chips in Seattle. This family business really treats the community well; I've seen how kind the service is to all its customers, regulars and newbies alike, and they even sponsor the local little league. The store is rather small though (6 counter seats and a couple outdoor picnic tables), so I've seen a decent amount of people opt for takeout. Prices are the best you'll find for fish n chips and fries are nicely dusted. The quality of the food is solid, though not always the most consistent. Out of all the fish, the halibut is usually the most moist and tender and I'd definitely skip the catfish and salmon. Crab hush puppies and shrimp po-boy are elite, must-try, but clam strips are kinda mid. Chowder is good and it's especially nice on chilly days. Overall, a well-deserved Seattle classic. read more
