Celebrated an anniversary here and it was very enjoyable. Cozy spot right in the heart of Columbia City. Very live room acoustically so if there are some loud patrons - you'll hear them for sure. :) We started with the grilled Spanish sardines and scallop crudo. Yum. Well... actually that's not quite correct. We started with some Prosecco and a well poured Dickel Manhattan. Yum. My better half had the Manila clam perciatelli pasta - really good stuff. I went for the spaghetti with pork and beef meatballs. Both very nice. Topped off the meal with the Bay Leaf Panacotta with rhubarb. Creamy good. We left happy. Not inexpensive but delicious. Attentive service and an overall happy vibe.

Very cute & fun spot in Columbia city! Love the vibes and the service was exceptional. The bread was fantastic but unfortunately of the three pastas I tried, all were much too salty. Personally would recommend the apps over the pastas.

We had a really nice dinner here on a cold night in January 2024. La Medusa is a quaint little restaurant in the heart of Columbia City. The restaurant was dark inside at night time. While the feel was cozy, it was for sure cold inside so bring your jacket! We were given menus at the table and realized all three menus were for drinks. The only food menu is on the chalkboard that's hanging on the main wall. This concept is cool, but honestly it was hard to read the board (the handwriting and small from far away) so it would have been nice to have another viewing option. Our server was very kind and knowledgeable. She was able to explain some of the chalkboard stuff to us. Essentially what was offered were a handful of starters and 4 pasta entrees. They had a meat entree, but that sold out when we arrived at 6pm. Both our pastas were great. The ingredients were fresh and went together nicely. The portion is fair sized, but not huge, so I'd recommend an app for sure.

I absolutely love La Medusa in Columbia city. It is my go to place to take out of towners. Before the pandemic you had to make reservations, way in advance or so I had been told. But sometimes I've called the day of or a couple of days before and had no problem. But that's probably more luck than anything. I usually get there a few minutes early and wait at Persephone next-door and have a wonderful drink made by Marc the bartender. He's friendly and has good conversation and he makes great drinks. Two dishes that are go to for me are their grandmas greens and malafine. The greens have a definite umami flavor, which is delicious. For pasta, I have had their mafaldine 3 times and love it!! The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is because I would like to see more protein dishes. I'm a low-carb person and would like a little more than mostly pasta. That being said, I've had the Bronzino fish, and it was very good. But that's generally about the only non-pasta dish. If you have the chance to dine there, I highly recommend that you do. It's a small room and an intimate dining experience and terrific staff.

    Rigatoni, soo good!

I'm so excited that this neighborhood staple has reopened for dining! We had the aranchino (risotto ball), rigatoni, and paccheri. The risotto ball was delicious and a great starter. The rigatoni was def our fav, the goat was so tender! We liked the paccheri too, I just wished you could taste the anchovy more--it's broken down in the sauce versus big pieces of it. We'll definitely be back here often now that we live in the area. I appreciate that they make all their pasta in house and change their menu often depending on what's in seaso

Oh do I love a satisfying authentic pasta indulging experience and definitely got that at La Medusa! Pasta is prepared al dente, just how I prefer, some may feel it's undercooked but it was perfect in my book. My favorite pasta was the black squid ink pasta. Sauce was full of flavor, a bit spicy, but not super rich. I prefer some protein with my pasta so got a side of meatballs which wasn't my favorite, just tasted a bit blah. Steelhead fish was also very nicely prepared. Other winner was the soup of the day prepared with vegetables and small lamb meatballs, soaked in a light delicious broth! Bread from Columbia city bakery is a great way to start off the meal. Also highly recommend the saffron risotto ball, so tasty! We obviously ate quite a bit! Gotta do that with all the great things in the menu. Our waiter was great! Really pleased with the service and the small intimate feel of the place.

Great local spot on the rustic and charming Rainier Ave South strip. Was made aware that this location has been here for over 10 years, with a previous employee taking over and renovating the restaurant around 2020. Newer to living in the area but have been down here many times and missed this place. They make the pasta from scratch and the owner among other great staff are there regularly. I started with their next door amaro bar (they have other hard to find Italian goods/produce also) while waiting for my reservation at the restaurant. What they serve here is tasty comfort food with a reasonable price point coupled with approachable staff that are passionate about what they do. It's a good idea to make a reservation as they are a rather intimate space of about 10 tables.

Amazingly fresh pasta and feels like your at a family home in Italy. Such friendly staff and everything was delicious.

This cute little place has stolen my heart and my stomach. Came here for dinner on Friday with one of my best friends and here I was telling her I didn't want to eat and I ended up eating everything she ordered. The restaurant was fully booked when I arrived but my friend somehow manage to get us these cute little window seating off to the side. It was weird at first but I ended up loving our seating because we pretty much sat in the corner people watching out these gigantic windows. We started off with some bread and olive oil then ordered the burrata with a caprese salad, saffron risotto croquette, and we finished with the squid ink spaghetti. Everything was delicious! I was thinking I'd have just a nibble ended up eating everything haha. The burrata that we ordered with the caprese salad was really light and when you had it with the tomatoes, ugh so much yes! I honestly hate tomatoes but I have never said no to a good caprese salad haha. The risotto that my friend ordered was also fricken delicious. I remember is have that somewhere else and it didn't taste as good as the one at Le medusa. The way they served it was super cute also. I don't know what I was expecting from the squid ink spaghetti. I kept thinking it was going to be served with tomato based sauce and was surprise when it came out without it. I thoroughly enjoyed that dish, a tad bit salty but if I wasn't so full better believe I would have finished it. We never have left overs when I dine out with my friend so imagine our surprised when we were trying to get the other person to take the last bit of spaghetti home. Either way, I'm really glad we decided to have dinner here. I most definitely want to come back and try other yummy dishes.

Coming from New York City, when I hear family style I'm picturing big shareable plates for the table to be going back for seconds (maybe even THIRDS). The dishes here were quite small and very pricey, which made it hard for them to function as true family-style portions. That said, the food itself was excellent, very unique and the service was genuinely wonderful. The staff were attentive, warm, and made the whole evening feel really welcoming. I can't say enough about the staff, just SO lovely. So if you go in expecting beautifully prepared small plates rather than true family-style dining, you'll probably have a great time. Just adjust expectations on the portion sizes!

Hands down the best lasagna I've ever had!…read more I was so excited to read on the menu that their lasagna didn't have spinach (which I'm allergic to) or ricotta (which is my least favourite cheese). It's so rare to find an authentic elevated lasagna, and this one, was on a whole other level. I'm obsessed with the addition of chopped carrot and maybe celery that gave the lasagna more texture and I adored how perfectly the meat and cheese were layered. My boyfriend described the flavour as almost having a sharp hint of cinnamon over the top like it was cooked in a delectable wine. The rest of the dinner was also delicious! I didn't get photos of the bread basket because my boyfriend was super hungry, but he loved how perfectly toasted the bread was. I'm not an authentic Italian food lover because I'm not a huge fan of eating bread with oil, I wish we'd gotten butter. For dinner, I also really wanted the Pepperoni e Salsiccia so my boyfriend ordered it and let me have a slice! My only qualm is that were onions on the pizza that weren't listed on the menu which both of us had to spend time picking off our pizza. If we had known there were onions on the pizza, we would have asked for no onions. My only recommendation would be to come here when you have plenty of time to spare because the service is really slow. I think there was only one server for our whole half of the restaurant so it definitely took a while to place our order and get our check. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this cosy romantic spot for a date night dinner and appreciated the ease of making a reservation online. I'm definitely going to make him bring me back to try more of their pasta.

Over the years, I've had some excellent meals there, like the one I had last night. From the moment you come through their door, when you're greeted by a pleasant host, until you leave with a full tummy, I think you'll love this place. The menu leans Italian, with some outstanding pasta dishes, and mighty fine they are. Last night I had tagliolini al limoni, which I think was the best pasta I have ever eaten. The room is nice too, simply and tastefully decorated, in an early Seattle historical structure. There is a deck on the back of the dining room, which seems to be used all year long. I do recommend you sit in the dining room instead, as it is kind of loud and cool on the deck, even though it is equipped with heat lamps. Service is first rate, just what you'd expect from a high end place like Il Nido. The staff seems to be well trained and professional--maybe I'd call them perfect, something we rarely find in this town. They have a small parking lot next to the restaurant, but unless you're eating early, you'll be lucky to find a place there. Parking on the street seems pretty easy, however. Take a drive to a nice part of Seattle, West Seattle, and enjoy a special night at Il Nido. I think you'll be delighted.

We were lured over to Due' Cucina after having a fantastic experience with their fresh porchetta…read moresandwiches at the Camp Yelp event earlier this month. Fatty and tender meat, dripping with juices, on top of the perfect focaccia with an ideal crunchy fried crust and airy interior, not to mention the excellent marinated eggplant, tender and filled with tangy vinegar essence. I couldn't wait to give their actual restaurants a try, and that's where we found ourselves over the rainy weekend. This particular location is open and clean with extremely friendly staff. Ordering is really easy on the 3 kiosks in the front, although the pasta chef/cashier is also happy to take orders, offer suggestions, and help with any questions. The menu displays the level of al dente to expect with each type of pasta but can be adjusted in the order notes. They also have a very convenient monitor up near the kitchen that displays order status, whether in the preparation phase or complete. I especially love how this restaurant has bar seating in front of the fresh pasta making station. We were able to watch as the chef mixed up a batch of fresh spaghetti, measuring out the semolina flour and water (at least, that's all I saw her add to the combo mixer-extruder), preparing the die, and then extruding the pasta. And yes, as with any high quality pasta, they use bronze dies for extrusion here! The pasta is dried on racks for a bit to really give that al dente bite when cooked. Suppli Al Telefono ($3.70) - An order comes with a single piece nestled in a mini fry basket. This is somewhat similar to the more commonly seen (in the US at least) arancini. It's a smaller log-shaped fried croquette, with tender rice cooked in a fragrant tomato based sauce, stuffed with tons of gooey, stretchy cheese, and then deep fried to golden perfection. The breading is fantastically crunchy, contrasting against the much softer interior. It's a great pairing of texture and flavor. (5/5) Short Ribs Ragu w/ Fusilloni ($14.90) - The chef recommended the fusilloni with the ragu. The fusilloni, essentially a larger fusilli that has longer "fins", has plenty of spirals and crevices to catch onto the sauce. The extrusion is a little inconsistent, with some pieces being longer than others and others being more spirally, a sign of manual hand cutting rather than being machine sliced. Per the menu, the fusilloni is cooked until a "2" al dente level. This is actually more al dente than most Italian restaurants, meaning the pasta has a very firm bite, yet remains slightly chewy. It's definitely cooked through and pleasant to eat, although trending towards the too al dente side. The pasta is only lightly sauced, but what sauce there is clings perfectly onto the micro rough surface of the pasta. Each bite is consistent in taste with all the rich umami and tangy notes from the red wine tomato sauce. The parmigiano reggiano adds an additional burst of savory saltiness and the short rib, rendered perfectly tender, is given in enough quantity to satisfy. Due Cucina really does serve some great pasta. (5/5) Rustic Porchetta Sandwich ($11.90) - With how great the porchetta sandwich was at Camp Yelp, this is a disappointment. The porchetta, while still flavorful with somewhat anise-like and garlicky aromas, is completely dried out and tough. It's like the pork had been pre-sliced in the morning at a central kitchen, shipped to the restaurant, then placed in a dry heat tray for service. After the meal I confirmed my suspicions with the chef - the porchetta is prepared off site and and driven over every morning. The focaccia, so airy and crisp at Camp Yelp, is also subpar in store. It's floppy, completely saturated with oil, yet feels dried out on the interior. At least the eggplant hasn't degraded in quality too much. While still having a bite (e.g. not super tender), it's grilled and marinated until tangy and savory in a vinaigrette. Interestingly they serve the sandwich on top of a bed of lettuce tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette. The oils in the sandwich drip down while eating to add even more flavor. (3/5) I know that their porchetta is high quality when fresh, but I think the way they have it set up now makes a sandwich that's still tasty, but definitely could be much better. If they choose to open a specialty sandwich shop that roasts the porchetta in house, I'd definitely be a regular. With Due' Cucina, though, I'd stick with the excellent pasta. At the end of the day, pricing is very reasonable. For less than $40 after tax/tip, we both left satisfied. What a rarity for Seattle nowadays. And as a bonus, apparently they refresh the menu often. According to the chef, starting on Monday, Due Cucina will be introducing new pasta shapes, sauces, and different sandwiches. I'll be back for more pasta in the near future!
