Melanzane - roasted eggplant with goat cheese. YUM.

Had an outstanding dinner here last night. A very cute, local and delicious restaurant. Reasonably priced as well. The inspiration for the dishes is definitely unique. It's explained more on their website but I understand it as Italian with influence of Mediterranean. Toward the end of our meal the chef made rounds at the tables which was very sweet and personal. The melanzane and beef roulade were especially amazing. The beef roulade dish has an interesting story, instead of posting it here I'd suggest you go in and hear from the chef yourself :)

A neighborhood gem! Finally got to try this Italian spot in the neighborhood - it's small and cute inside with a nice patio for outdoor seating. The staff are super friendly, and it immediately gives off homely small mom and pop vibes. We ordered the caprese as a starter which was solid, but the real stars of the show were the pastas. The gnocchi with chicken was so delicious; the gnocchi were fairly large, but the texture was soft and pillowy. The chicken was also moist and flavorful. The seafood pasta was off menu and came with salmon, mussels, squid, shrimp served in a creamy sauce. That was my favorite, as the sauce was so deep in flavor and the pasta was cooked perfectly. I love this restaurant!! Will definitely come back - support local! It tastes better than the more commercial restaurants, and doesn't come with a wait! And the off menu list is extensive and fun - looking forward to trying all of the ever-changing dishes!

I've been a frequent here ever since I found this place. Chef is always cool, and the food never disappoints.

Zouave has been one of my go-to Neighborhood Italian spots for awhile, and I can't believe I'm only leaving a review now! It's a very cute and cozy restaurant where you're always greeted with a smile and warm bread when you arrive. Plus, the chef, Abe, who owns the place, puts so much passion in every dish he makes. I've tried various dishes from here over the past few months and by far, the Salmon Penne, Antipasti, and Mushroom soup are my favorites! I also highly recommend the homemade sangria. They're open in the evenings from 5-10pm most nights, if you're coming on the weekend I suggest booking a reservation as it can get quite busy!

Just. Wow. I came here with some of my best friends who live in Seattle.. it's been on their "eats to try in the neighborhood list" for some time & thought it was a great opportunity to go since I was in town shortly for work. The ambiance is homey and simple. It feels like you're at a relatives house to catch up and stay a while! We were greeted warmly and shared a bottle of red blend which was nice, then order the goat cheese appetizer and it sung. The three of us gals split 3 entrees and divided it family style. We were so impressed, it was the closest thing I've had in the states that resembled true authentic Italian cooking. We split the osso bucco, lobster ravioli, and penne puttanesca with chicken. The chef was a delight to speak with.. he is well traveled, humble, and genuine. He mentioned if we ever were curious if he could make something off the menu.. just ask! Whether it be the style of noodle, sauce, or dish altogether. (I'd love to taste his carbonara one day). He ended the evening by surprising us with a delicious espresso soaked tiramisu on the house. Give it a shot! Seating is limited indoors.. there is more place if the outdoor patio is open.

Mountains of pasta!! Doesn't get better than this!

This place was so great. They accommodated 16 of us for dinner and were so kind. As we walk in the chef says he can make anything we want even if it's not on the menu, reminder there was 16 of us! The hospitality was unmatched and the patio gave us the perfect opportunity to spend quality time with each other and don't get me started on the food. The food was absolutely delicious! The gnocchi was the favorite of the table. Thank you Zouave and hopefully see you next year!

The host asked us to wait outside and said she would come get us when our table was ready. A family who was already waiting outside was called in shortly after, and we continued waiting. We saw several parties leave and many people come in and get seated right away, so we assumed they had reservations. After waiting about 25 minutes, we went back inside to check on our table. The host told us that we "didn't leave a phone number," even though we were never asked for one and were told to wait outside until she comes get us. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, she complimented my shirt mid-conversation, which felt like she was trying to brush it off. The entire time we were outside, we were the only people waiting, and we even saw her setting up the outside seating as the restaurant got busier. She never once checked in with us or said anything. The food was good, and our service once we were seated was great. Unfortunately, our first interaction with the host left a bad first impression and took away from the overall experience. That's why we're taking off two stars.

Upon our arrival the host was very accommodating as we wanted to bring in balloons and cake. However after we expressed that we didn't want to wait that long, we were told that if we wanted outdoor seating they could actually seat us in less than half an hour. We chose the outdoor seating option and took a quick stroll in the quiet neighborhood before coming back. Our server told us that Homer's plates are meant to be family style and shared so their general recommendation is 1 large plate or 2 small plates per person. For us, we ordered the Set of top 3 spreads, lamb ragu on tahini and we were served with 5 pieces of warm pita. We also ordered Grilled Pork with Stinging nettles, raw albacore tuna with taramasalata, and smoked and shaved kohlrabi. Our server warned us that the pork was going to be on the fatty side but we were still surprised by how fatty it was. The spreads for the pita were amazing as usual-- their seasonal flavors taste amazingly fresh. Our table wanted to order more pita and when someone came by to take the empty plate they asked if we wanted more which we did let them know but even by the time we finished all the plates, we never got the additional pita so we just took it off. The Kohlrabi was an amazingly refreshing palette cleanser before the pork-- super light and refreshing. After we finished our meal we grabbed some soft serve from the window and wow, for 7$ it's quite a lot of ice cream! The flavors that were offered when we were there was Dark Chocolate and Kettlekorn. I sampled the swirl and the fusion of the saltiness of the kettle korn, the slight bitter and sweetness of the dark chocolate was immaculate. Final thoughts: very cool experience, inside I could see the open kitchen and the stone wood fired oven and the ingredients tasted amazing. However it is a little inconvenient that it's walk in unless you're a party of 6 since the lines and wait can get incredibly long. It's also difficult to find parking in the area. Very neat experience!

The signature saj bread is cooked fresh on a hot stone and is almost like a Middle Eastern flour tortilla with the way it's super thin and satisfyingly chewy bite. The only seating options are a few large benches on the sidewalk, but there's a poster saying you're welcome to sit at the neighboring bar which opens in the late afternoon provided you purchase a drink as well. Ended up sampling 3 of their wrap options and the Zaatar Wrap was deliciously nutty and fragrant, but texturally there was so many herbs that the center ate a little dry. The Lahme Khuruf (Lamb) was my favorite by far with super juicy ground meat with some tang from the labneh, sweetness, freshness from the tomato, and texture from the pine nuts. Absolute home run on this one! The Awarma and Cheese was a close second, but personally, the flavor profile was just a little less interesting than the lamb. I got a build-my-own saj wrap with the mushroom base saj $6, sumac chicken $7, tomato $1.5, cucumber $1.5, pickled turnip $1, and a side of hot sauce $2. The saj bread itself tasted good, but got soaked through by the juice of the chicken and became very soggy. We walked to a park 10 minutes away to eat the wraps and the wraps were bending. The ingredients are fresh but nothing particularly stood out. I didn't quite taste the mushroom on the wrap, and on top of that, I got charged $2 for the hot sauce, but never tasted it in the wrap or found it on the side. My partner got the falafel saj wrap which was overall ddcent, but he also found the saj bread quite soggy, yet the falafels were on the dry side.
