Came here for happy hour on a Friday night and were able to get a table for two relatively easily, although it was busy. During HH, they offer 50% off bar menu items, which is a spectacularly good deal. My partner and I ordered the carbonara and the ragu, and both were very good but the carbonara was amazing (flavorful, creamy, not too salty or cheesy, decadent without feeling too deadly). The tiramisu is a very good dessert with a nice strong espresso flavor and not too much sweetness. Our waitress kindly checked in right before 7pm to make sure we had any additional orders in before happy hour ended, which is a mark of excellent service. The bathroom is clean and brightly lit. I'm visiting Seattle this week and I'm staying across the street near Barolo Ristorante. They close at 11, & I called an around 10pm and was very respectful about it ...I literally said, "I know it's late, please let me know if your kitchen is closed. I can just do takeout." I tried to order the fettuccine de mare, listed at $29 (no extra fees on Toast), but they told me it would be $43. That already didn't make sense. Then the server says, "We actually have 50% off happy hour until 11, come in and dine." So I came in. Ordered a drink, escargot, and a steak medium rare. The escargot came out fine. Then... nothing. 39 minutes later (at 10:45pm), the server asks if I'm waiting on anything else. Yes... my steak. She goes to check, disappears, and then comes back with something that honestly felt DISTESPECTFUL. The steak looked like scraps. Uneven, mismatched chunks, all different sizes, with burnt, crispy edges and covered in sauce like they were trying to hide it. It didn't look like a single cut of meat it looked like pieces from multiple steaks thrown together. The plating was sloppy, and the side looked like an afterthought. I didn't take a bite. I looked through it and said, "This looks like pieces from different steaks." She told me she watched them cut it... then immediately followed that by saying she saw them put it under a heat lamp to reheat. So which is it? I work in the food industry. I'm not going to be gaslit over a plate like that. She offered to refire it, but at that point it was almost 11 and they were closing. I paid for my drink and left. Honestly, I wouldn't have been upset if they had just told me the kitchen was closing when I called. But don't invite me in, forget my order, and then serve something like this and try to pass it off like it's normal. Just be honest. read more

This place was amazing! Went there after a movie night at the Cinerama and I was impressed. The ambience was great - low lighting, intimate, extensive menu with options. Even with casual wear (I am usually dressed up on a Friday night/weeken)- I didn't feel out of place. The place felt welcoming and willing to make our time a wonderful experience. The food and service were both exceptional as well. We received complimentary bread and sun dried tomato olive oil which was nice. And then we had the escargot, tomato / mozzarella cheese salad, and our wine (barolo and reserved red). Then the entrees came and they were delicious! I had the spaghetti vongole (clams) - only thing didn't have enough lemon zest, rigatoni with veal and bolognese, and mushroom pasta. We ate most of our meals and had enough to take home! Bonus! Dessert was gelato with Black Sea salt and was the star of the show! So delicious!!! They also had nice chandeliers and intimate booths for people to have nice group dinners or date nights! The restroom was also nice which always helps with a good experience and sometimes is overlooked. They also have a bar area and a lounge area with couches which I can see people really enjoying! I came here with friends on Saturday at 5 p.m. We had reservations, but honestly, you probably don't need them, there were plenty of open spaces. We were seated right away. The service was a highlight: the chef even came to our table and was so helpful! All the staff members were kind and attentive, and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. For our appetizer, we ordered calamari. It was served in a flavorful sauce that paired perfectly with the complimentary bread. Unfortunately, our main course didn't live up to the hype. My friend had raved about the lobster risotto from her last visit, but she said it looked and tasted different this time around. We all weren't in love with our main course. It happened to be a birthday celebration, and they offered us a complimentary dessert. We chose the hazelnut gelato, which we all really enjoyed! Overall, the staff and atmosphere were wonderful. Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience with one of our meals. First the positive, the charred salad and focaccia bread was delicious! Our waiter was very attentive. The gnocchi was excellent and I'd highly recommend. Where it went sideways is with the risotto. The menu says the risotto is "Maine lobster" and in fact what we were served was warm water spiny lobster. Completely different, that's like getting snow crab for king crab. I immediately showed the waiter and he told us he's seen the boxes that say "Maine lobster" on them, and that was about all he did. The manager didn't come bye, no apology, nothing done with our bill. I lived in both Portland Maine and the Caribbean, the shells are very distinct between the two lobster species. So, false advertising on the menu was extremely disappointing. If it wasn't for the Risotto it probably would have been 5 stars. read more

Cane here on a Friday night briefly after 9pm and seems they have happy hours till close. They have a bar/table section specifically for HHs that's apart from their normal tables, and the happy hours section is almost fully seated already! Served with their bread and chimichurri(?) sauce. I absolutely love their bread, different texture with some salt and herbs. I wish it was warm as these were served at room-temp cold already. Love the sauce that's served in their escargot dish, cooked simple yet beautifully. Their calamari alla livornese has amazing tomato sauce, bright salty and acidic enough from the olives. However, i believe they are served raw but lightly cooked from the heat of the sauce? That way you actually get to taste the sweet and freshness of the calamari! However, this section of the restaurant at night is really dark especially if you are seated at the tables. We can barely read the menu not to mention to see what we are eating. Which is why i had a lot of (?) based on what I can taste in texture and flavor than visually confirming it. Also, there was a party by the bar and there's a lady who was there before & entire time we were there and she was hella loud while talking to someone literally sitting right next to her. Came in for a weekday dinner with a couple friends. We had a reservation so we were sat pretty quickly. We were greeted by our server quickly, gave us our table bread, asked for our drink order, and then kind of left us. We had to wait a little bit to actually order food but it wasn't terrible. For food, we ordered the vongole spaghetti, the bucatini in bolognese sauce, and the octopus appetizer. The octopus was delicious. Perfectly cooked, not too chewy, the mashed potatoes made a good vessel to eat with the sauce. My only qualm is not enough octopus. The vongole spaghetti was okay. The sauce was super light; there was some flavor but I would have preferred more. The clams were pretty good. The bucatini was the star for me. The sauce was meaty and rich, the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. I wasn't a huge fan of the service. The people clearing the tables cleared one of our plates while we were still eating, and I overall felt kinda rushed towards the end of our meal. We also weren't offered any dessert at the end. We didn't want any, but it still would've been nice to be asked. The server also asked if we were celebrating anything after we had paid like it was an afterthought. The place itself is cute. Tables are spaced pretty close together, and it can get a bit loud when it's busy, but the space feels cozy and not claustrophobic. All in all, okay place. I'd give this place a 3.5 if I could. Two for dinner on a Saturday night. We made a reservation in advance and arrived promptly. There was easy street parking. Once inside we were offered coat check and seated at quaint table/booth in the very rear of the restaurant near the bathroom. It was still a good table. Nick was our server for the night. He immediately went over specials with us. We ordered a special and the rest of the meal directly from the menu. We were offered sparkling and still water and provided focaccia with a delicious olive tapenade. The pasta fagoli was hearty and the insalatina mists was beautiful and delicious. The special which featured lamb and spinach gnocchi was wonderful and flavorful. We also had the lobster risotto with bay shrimp. The dinner was delicious and served promptly. This was our most anticipated meal in Seattle, because of the lobster risotto we saw all over the Yelp page. So glad to report that the lobster risotto lived up to the expectations. The risotto was perfectly creamy & cheesy and the lobster was buttery & tender. The portion was pretty large for one person, but I was happy to have leftovers! Our server Fabricio was absolutely spectacular, attentive without ever rushing us, and genuinely enthusiastic about every detail and checked in often enough to make us feel truly cared for. How do you spell rude? It's D-A-R-K-O. Our waiter was horrible! He was incredibly pushy and was rather upset that we didn't go with all of his recommendations. He kept insisting that we ordered 2 gnocchi and 2 spaghetti in clams (without the spaghetti because it's too much pasta!) to share. I had to argue with him that I particularly like the clam dish because of the pasta and he shrugged his shoulders and made some offensive remarks. We ended up ordering what I wanted, 1 gnocchi and 1 spaghetti with clams. Thank goodness we only ordered 1 gnocchi, it was awful! It was overcooked and really mushy and oily. The pesto sauce was the worst I've had! The flavor was bad and no one from our party of 7 liked it. The waiter was personally offended that we didn't like the gnocchi that he raved about. He said he liked his pasta extra soft. I had the chef's special, which was the halibut. The fish was tender but the dish itself wasn't memorable. I tried a piece of my friend's beef shank and it was really tough in texture and heavy in taste. The tiramisu dessert was good, but that's the best thing I can say about my experience here. I would not recommend this restaurant. If you happen to dine here anyway after reading my review, please do yourself a favor and ask not to have this particular waiter. Literally could not convince me this is a sister restaurant to Cinque Terre across the street. 1) Our waiter was impatient, very impatient. Would not take the time to answer our questions about the dishes. We had a vegetarian in the party with dietary restrictions, he was not helpful at all with questions. Always seemed like he was in a rush no matter if it was the ordering, or food delivery, or the check. Evidently took his time with other tables, probably because they opened a bottle so they have a bigger tab. Subpar service. (We went to cinque a hour before they closed for the night and stayed until 11, a hour after they closed. They welcomed us warmly and never rushed to kick us out. It was an absolute amazing experience from start to finish) 2) One of my go to plates for all Italian restaurants nationwide is the lobster risotto. That, here, is a joke. Not even creamy. Sauce was the the literal foundation of the plate, was also watery. I literally thought I had to mix the rice with the sauce after the fact. Nope. Didn't help. Lobster was tasteless. Shrimp was tiny. I also thought I'd get (some) lobster in the shell itself but I just got an empty shell. (I got the seafood soup at Cinque just 3 days earlier. Their lobster was much, much better) 3) Decor was alright. I don't know when this restaurant was designed but there's probably a ten year difference in design at minimum between this and Cinque. Floor was also sticky. Tables also felt cramped; originally we were seated on the couches and they put me in between two tables. I requested to move to one of the corner tables to be out of the way after another patron closed tab and left. I will not be coming back here again and will not recommend to anyone if they find themselves in downtown Seattle. Cinque is where it's at. Usually sister restaurants are very close in comparison. Holy cow, this place blew my socks off!! The atmosphere is very upscale, very clean, and very welcoming. The servers are all very professional and warm to the guests. The happy hour here is fantastic! My friends and I came for it on a weekday and were able to get seated at the bar right before happy hour ended. Their menu has quite a few options, all of which are 50% off. I got the calamari dish which wasn't fried but rather in a rich tomato sauce. It was so surprisingly good and flavorful! I loved the little bread crumb pieces inside as it added such a nice seasoning. They also give complementary focaccia bread which was DELICIOUS. So soft and just the right amount of rosemary and salt. I would definitely come back to try more of their happy hour items - so worth it! read more

Their happy hour is always great. Been coming here for years with friends and family and it's still just as good as the first time. We have one gripe recently, however.. the female bartender who served us one evening seemed especially particular about the quality of her service depending on who she was serving. We had already eaten, but came to Barolo for an after-dinner drink. We were hoping to get some bread to munch on. We asked our bartender serving us, and she proceeded to bring bread to every other party except us. My friend suggested it may be racially driven, due to the face that we were the only ones in the bar who weren't of light-colored skin. If that's the case, it'd be incredibly disappointing. I can't stop thinking about the spaghetti! Here's what we ordered: - Spaghetti alla carbonara: Noodles, bacon, decorative greens, and a load of amazing sauce. Granted, there aren't many times to the dish -- bacon strips and noodles mostly -- but the flavor is on point. This dish has my absolute favorite spaghetti sauce of all time. I really do think of this sauce spaghetti often. The first time we came to Barolo, they sat us at the couches. It was slightly awkward to sit in, but the waitstaff were really nice and attentive! I regrettably forgot our server's name, but she was so very kind to us. That's what got us going back! The second time we came to Barolo, we tried their happy hour menu, which was available only at the bar. We had a really difficult time ordering, asking questions, or even getting a menu and water. In short, the bartender was overwhelmed, and when we asked other waitstaff for help, we were told "That's what he's for", pointing at the bartender. We eat pretty quickly -- in probably 15-20m, but the entire meal took maybe 90m. The restaurant definitely gives me date-night vibes. It's dark and moody, with nice seating and plenty of wine racks. In short, incredibly delicious sauce -- the best I've ever had -- but sparse portions of meat. We had polar opposites in terms of service, on the two times we went, so I'll chalk it up to a bad or busy day. I will go back.. on a less busy day! read more

This is a great Italian restaurant that offers one of the best happy hours in the Seattle area, competitive to similar establishments like List and Cinque Terre Ristorante. The highlights here are the food, service, and ambience, while the (minor) lowlight is the price compared to other places (but still very good given happy hour). Happy hour is pretty generous here - you are not restricted to the bar. I made a reservation for 2 at 5pm Friday and just to be safe, I made a note that we would like to participate in happy hour. Reservations weren't needed but suggested, as there were a lot of empty bar seats available, but you'd likely want reservations if you prefer a table. We were seated at the tables, and we were able to partake and receive the happy hour discount. Happy hour is 50% off all the items on that page of the menu, and wine is $7.50 per glass or $27 per bottle! We got the calamari (calamari alla livornese), veal carpaccio (carpaccio di vitello), rigatoni (rigatoni con sugo di carne), and meatballs (polpette di manzo). The calamari is not the fried calamari but rather it is covered with tomato sauce, capers, and olives. I do prefer this type as it is more hearty yet healthier, and it is more flavorful. The calamari is pretty fresh as well. It is a good appetizer. The veal carpaccio is also good - it has a bunch of arugula and cheese on top, but that it did not really detract from the main ingredient. Think of the veal carpaccio as more of a prosciutto. The rigatoni is cooked perfectly to al dente, and it is fairly large in pieces of pasta. While I am generally not too big of a fan of ragu, this one is executed fairly well. The meatballs are probably my least favorite as they were a bit mushy / over processed in texture, but this is mostly a preference as they may have intended the meatball to be like that. Service is excellent. The waitress gave us sufficient time to look over the menu and answered our questions, and she refilled water constantly whenever the opportunity is given, which is fairly frequent. She did a sufficient amount of small talk that was just not too overbearing, as we enjoyed the dinner. The ambience of this place is dimly lit and can be quite romantic, so it is a nice date spot, but I went here with just a friend and enjoyed the experience nonetheless. read more

This is one of my favorite spots for happy hour in Seattle! It's absolutely gorgeous inside - there is a bar area as well as booths, tables, and couch seating. The last time I was here, we were seated on couches with a low table, and it was cozy and comfortable. The food prices during HH are amazing, and the portions are huge, even by regular menu standards. I got the calamari, which was very filling and ended up only being about $14. I would caution that people tend to be a bit dressier here. I came in with my backpack after work, so I definitely felt like I was one of the most casual people there. read more

We asked multiple times to have the AC turn on throughout the evening and the response we get is we will ask management. Needless to say the AC never came on and everyone was sweating. A Solid 4 star from me. We went in a big group today (13 of us) and the place was pretty packed on a Wednesday dinner. I have been here before a long time ago but honestly I do not remember much. This place is a lot bigger than I recalled and they definitely can accommodate bigger groups (with a reservation of course). Their wine list was solid and the drink menu was great. I got to try a few of their appetizers and they were all very good. My favorite has to be the tuna tartare. I ordered the gnocchi with rabbit meat and it was very very good. Braised rabbit meat was not only tender but it had great deep flavors. I also got to try a bite of the lamb shank and man that was super soft. It just melted in my mouth. I have never had lamb like that before. For dessert, I got to try gelato affocato (it was just okay), tiramisu (which wasn't very good), and cannoli (my favorite of the 3).
