After 2 visits to Geraldine's, I have an idea of what I like and don't like about this restaurant. Like: The biscuits and gravy! They put some delicious herbs (maybe thyme?) and good sausage in the gravy. It's thick and full of earthy flavor. The biscuits are pretty good too but they're really just there as a vehicle for the gravy, right?! The eggs were scrambled light and fluffy and the hash browns were crispy and not too greasy. I had a cup of really good coffee and we all agreed they have the cutest mugs. Lots of open space. Very clean atmosphere. Don't like: There's not a lot that I don't like about this place but there are a couple things that make it 4 stars instead of 5. The server was nice but he wasn't that attentive. He also ignored how we wanted the bill split so it became frustrating and a bit confusing. They will only use one card per table so if you're splitting the bill bring cash. There is sometimes a long wait but we only waited 5 minutes on a Saturday morning. This place is right up the street from my house and with biscuits and gravy like that, I will be back for weekend brunch very soon! read more

Fab! Chicken fried steak for brunch is superb. They have a nice interpretIon of chicken pot pie - a nice chicken soup / stew (not as thick as a stew, but super chunky - thick with chunks of chicken and veggies, not starch) roped with a biscuit (the biscuits and gravy kind). Great place for a group brunch. Sometimes a long wait. read more

Finally tried this place yesterday and is now one of my favorite breakfast spots! We all ordered the slammin' and the French toast was just amazing! Can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. read more

I stopped in at Geraldine's Counter today with a friend. It was a great time, as always. I've been to Geraldine's a few times now, and the service is always great and the food is always delicious. I had a simple brunch, two eggs, some toast, and hash browns, all for $6.75. It really hit the spot, especially after an afternoon walking around Seward Park. I don't get down to Columbia City much, but when I do, I make sure to stop in at Geraldine's. You should too! read more

It's just an Okay for me. I think my friends over hyped about this place. Food was decent. Was not bad but it wasn't the best thing I ever had. The service was so slow! I waited for about 40 minutes just for my food. The waitress said the cooks were behind but the place did not look overly busy...on top of that, they got my boyfriend's order wrong. Of course he just brushed it off his shoulder and ate the wrong order because we do not plan on waiting AGAIN for the meal he originally ordered. Eh. read more

FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC... This is my new breakfast spot. The chicken fried steak is the best I've tasted. Better, than ihop, denny's, Shari's, Destination Diner & many more. That was the only thing I had but I will be back to try some more on their menu. read more

The service is always an A+, even when it gets busy & on the weekends this place is a beehive! You can have lunch for breakfast & they have daily specials to add to their regular options. Pretty much something for everyone here. Recommend: kick butt chili, French toast & chicken fried steak (if that's your thing). read more

Went here for breakfast the first time today! Even though they were busy and I had to wait for the rest of my party before I got seated they were still really friendly and once my party did get there we were seated promptly. I got the French toast which was so tasty, it was unlike any I had before, crunchy in the outside but soft and had a sourdough twinge. The poached pears I didn't really care for and was glad I asked for it in the side. Overall very tasty. read more

Geraldine's Counter - French toast w/poached pears and a side of bacon - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Two words: FRENCH TOAST. Order it and you won't be disappointed. My absolute favorite place to go when I'm craving breakfast. It's small and yes there can be a long wait but if you get restless, just walk across the street to get some coffee or something to munch on from Columbia City Bakery. Anyways, back to the French toast, their topping changes daily and all of them are good. At least the ones I've had (strawberry, blueberries, peaches.) The emerald city scramble is also good too! read more

The reviews were spot on ... Delicious breakfast entrees using fresh ingredients. Just moved here from Arizona and brother said I had to eat here. Coffee is strong and robust. Recommend: herb omelet (add salmon), corn beef hash (meat is super soft like pot roast), French toast. My new favorite neighborhood breakfast joint :) read more

Sigh... I'm probably the only person to write a mediocre review, but I wasn't too impressed. Maybe all the hype of my friends pumped me up. I was totally turned off by the lack of diversity on the menu. I came here extremely hungry, and was turned off by the lack of meat on the menu. Maybe I need to try lunch, because breakfast was very disappointing. Totally overrated. read more

Geraldine's Counter - Geraldine casserole - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Was it just me or this place way overrated? The French toast... Wait the French toast was perfection. What am I talking about? The French toast was like a freshly baked croissant that was then deep fried. I loved it, it was actually legitimately made of a baguette...yes just yes. I was hungover and the bacon was that thick type and the fruit wasn't sweet but the French toast was everything. Yes. Just yes. read more

Geraldine's is one of my favorite brunch places in Seattle. The wait can be very long on the weekends. The waiting area inside is small, so you may have to wait outside... something to think about if the weather is cold. I've tried a bunch of items on the menu but my favorite is the fluffy french toast. The chicken sausage and bacon are delicious as well! I also tried the banana pecan pancakes the other day and they were SO good! If you pay with cash, you get a Geraldine $1 for every $10 you spend. You can use this the next time you choose to eat here. read more

Decided to stop here before our flight back home.. Because of all the rave reviews we decided to try this place out.. Let me just say I LOVE places that have that home town feel.. A lot of street parking and the food was on point!! I had their chicken fried steak and it did not disappoint!! It didn't taste greasy at all.. I've had some chicken fried steaks where I immediately regretted ordering it.. Not here!! If I lived in the area this would be my go to spot for a good breakfast.. read more

Little cute breakfast place! It's a bit far drive but definitely worth it. My girls waited about 30 mins in order to get a table which isn't that bad. I ordered a sandwich and potato fries which were delicious! I will be coming back read more

The breakfast was average. When I got my meal I was like there is nothing fascinating about my egg casserole. It was good, don't get me wrong, there just wasn't a WOW factor to it. The people I was with got the corn beef hash and that looked delicious, and they seemed satisfied after they ate there. The place is small, clean, and was cute. The location is convient because you aren't charged for parking. read more

Geraldine's Counter - Casserole - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Honestly the BEST pancakes I've ever had! Today's special was lemon ricotta pancakes and HOLY SMOKES I could not stop eating them! Thick and flavorful bacon, nice staff, and great vibe. If it's busy (which it probably will be!) the food is well worth the wait!!! read more

Looking through my drafts and I came across this one that I never completed while in Seattle! This was the first spot we found when we landed and it was everything and more. The hash browns were awesome, coffee great, daily scramble savory!! I loved it all. Wish I was back in Seattle just for this place. read more

I rarely 5 star, however, this my good friends is a 5 star joint. Had chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy for breakfast. The food was on point. Oj was freshly squeezed and coffee lives up to the seattle coffee lovers standard. however, the ace in the hole is the staff. we sat belly up and were incredibly looked after. the staff is warm welcoming and helpful. there was a short wait (10 mins) on a saturday morning, however the staff is very efficient in turning the tables. want a big lovely breakfast? this is the spot. read more

Excellent breakfast spot. 2nd time eating there. Wonderful variety of breakfast items, tasty coffee, and wonderful servers. Anytime I'm in the area, this place will now be on my radar for breakfast. read more

I look at it this way, yes... you could go to Denny's, and have an ok breakfast, with ok coffee. Or you could come here. It's colourful, friendly, the coffee is divine - the menu items (at least for breakfast) were varied. I thoroughly dove into my french toast with strawberries, and my friend totally enjoyed his Geraldine's Casserole. Our first visit, and yes, we'll be back. (tip: pay cash, you get Geraldine's dollars) read more

The star of the Geraldine's is their french toast, crunchy, sweet, and covered in fruit. In fact it was so good that after our family vacation my mom contacted them about how they make it, after several failed attempts at making similarly crunchy french toast. I had the corn & havarti scramble which was interesting, I enjoyed it but not as much as the bite of french toast I tried. My sister raved about the fresh apple juice but wasn't impressed with her biscuits and gravy. My dad and brother both enjoyed their dishes, emerald scramble and the casserole only saying they would prefer crispier hash browns. Overall a great brunch and if I were to find myself in Seattle again I would definitely return for their amazing crunchy french toast! read more

Host/ess; 3.5 Wait person: 2.0 Food: Taste, Presentation, 2.0 Property; Ambiance, Style, Decor, 2.0 This restaurant has the best location in Columbia city; corner, on the busiest street between downown and it's sorrounding lesser known commuinities like Brighton, for example. The food is nothing extra ordinary. It's been done before and not even with a special twist of anything extra that would make it worth its super exaggerated prices. Go for the crowd that hangs out there that are mainly waiting for their turn to experience mediocre food. read more

Awesome food and service. My only issue with Geraldine's is that they charge $7 for a screw driver when most of their dishes cost around $9. I will keep coming back but I won't be ordering cocktails! read more

The best French toast I've ever had. Geraldines has the look and feel of a classic diner, but they have higher quality food. If you are a French toast fan, try it here. Not for people counting calories. John read more

Stumbled upon Geraldine's while killing some time waiting for a car repair in the neighborhood. This place is fantastic! Bright with lots of windows-- constant stream of customers. Breakfast is served all day. They truly have countertop seating in addition to tables. I had the biscuits & gravy plate (including eggs & hash browns). The biscuits were the best that I've had since my childhood down South. Service is friendly and prompt. Will make a special trip over here to dine again! read more

Do I have talent or what? We were randomly considering a breakfast spot and I remembered I'd bookmarked this place not long ago. We headed over and Rainier Ave was taped off. It's local parade day! Very crowded! So this is why traffic was light coming over. Did not anticipate. Want... to... run... away... but no. We were hungry! We managed to find parking anyway off Edmunds for $1. (Seriously, when did you last get away with 2 hour parking in a crowded Seattle 'burb for that much?) We spotted Geraldine's right away and were able to grab two spots at the counter immediately, even though it was pretty crowded. Woot. I targeted my 2 eggs and hash brown special with chicken sausage as it is my brunch tester dish and my SO picked out the buttermilk pancakes. The place is brightly lit and clean for those of you out there that care about that sort of thing. The service is attentive, warm and friendly but not hanging over your shoulder which is annoying. The food came pretty quickly, but here's my disclaimer on the 3 stars when so many before me have given this place 4 or 5. Zagat, apparently, included. Note ahead of time if a new place is known for its decadence. Biscuits & gravy. French toast. Which Geraldine's is. Don't get me wrong. It's good. The hash browns were good. Eggs were done over medium the way I like them, not too runny. Boyfriend's pancakes were nice and fluffy and the fruit looked nice and fresh. But nothing to distinguish itself from other breakfast joints, unfortunately. The parade provided great people watching opps, but no fair including that in the star score! Stand by for more... read more

For a Saturday morning at 10:00, we were seated quickly and service was good - I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were hard and both the hash browns and eggs could have cooked another minute or two. The gravy had good flavor though and lots of sausage. I've been here twice now but was not super impressed either time. read more

Always a wait on the weekend for breakfast. But it's worth it people. Biscuits are amazing. Bacon is amaZing. Pepper jack omelet. There actually has not been anything I've tried that hasn't been tasty. Not fine dining by any means. This food was so good & so worth it. The staff was friendly and it was obvious everyone in the restaurant enjoyed themselves.

I was down here for vacation and looked on yelp when I stumbled upon this place. Looking at all the photos it left my mouth watery. I ordered fried country chicken and it was awesome. Geraldine's Counter - Biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon. So delicious! - American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Just have to add - we've now tried lunch and dinner as well. The macaroni and cheese is interesting - kinda texmex flavors. I really didn't prefer it and won't get it again. The chili is DELICIOUS and perfect and great. The meatball sandwich was pretty solid. But, the burger. The burger is fantastic. They actually cook it how you order it, the onion balsamic thing going on is delightful, albeit messy, and the meat is quality, as are the toppings. Sweet potato fries are thin and crisp and just the perfect sweet potato fry. Anyway, chili and salad for lunch, burger for dinner, and almost anything for breakfast makes Geraldine's a solid local choice. read more

I am a Rookie's loyalist during football season - absolutely love the place, but every Sunday morning as I turn the corner on to S. Ferdinand st the line at Geraldine's catches my eye. So, on this first real football free weekend of the year - I had to check it out. It was fabulous. We arrived by 9am and sat at the counter, resulting in no wait. However, even as we were leaving the turnover looked pretty fast, so I'd expect the line to move quickly. We were comfortably in and out in under 45 minutes. First, the decor is great - clean, not-to-kitschy, Americana diner. The counter was comfortable, though it would have been nice to have hooks to hang coats near the seats. Food-wise: The french toast was as amazing as the reviews here claim. Not too sweet, wonderfully fluffy and topped this morning with vanilla pear compote. Note: the half order size was a perfect compliment to share with a meal. My boyfriend ordered the Emerald city scramble. It was delicious - had a great a kick of flavor. Exactly what I would want from Sunday brunch hearty and just greasy enough to kill the morning grogginess. I ordered the corn beef hash. While the meat was awesome - melt in your mouth - and the veggies super fresh. I think the potatoes were under-seasoned and cut too chunky which impacted the whole plate. I found myself dumping salt and pepper over the dish to create flavor. It was slightly disappointing. All in: Definitely a yummy, comfortable brunch spot. I'd probably not wait more than 1/2 an hour for the food, but with a little luck - you won't have to! read more

If I could give Geraldine's more than 5 stars I'd do it in a heartbeat. This is my go-to, most favorite place for breakfast. So, keep in mind this review is for breakfast only. My family and I always go on a Saturday or Sunday morning and because we don't relish waiting around while we listen to each others' stomachs growl, we nearly always get there within 10 minutes of opening, if not before it opens. Love them so much that I place far more importance on eating their yummy grub than getting sleep. Let me say that the service is FANTASTIC. In the couple years we've come here, we've never had poor service experience. We have our favorite servers (Angelina!) but everyone is great and consistently friendly. The place gets crowded but they move things along quickly. Honestly if we arrived later and had to wait, it'd be well worth it. My faves are the pumpkin pancakes, Geraldine's casserole, the herbed omelet (goat cheese, mmmmm.....), the bacon, egg & arugula sandwich, and - I'll freely admit it - anything that comes with one of their biscuits. Holy cow, those things are mouthwatering. I could order a couple alone for breakfast and call it good. I've tried biscuits at a myriad of other breakfast places and for me, nothing tops a Geraldine's biscuit. The French toast is yummy and worth the raves. The only only ONLY drawback for me is that I wish that you had the option of a basic pancake rather than finding out once you're there what the pancake flavor of the day is. Most all of their varieties are tasty, but I'm not a big fan of the orange or oatmeal pancakes. Love the ricotta, sour cream, pumpkin, and spiced apple. read more

My family was in town so we wanted to try something new. We had a group of 7 (6 adults & 1 toddler). We went around noon on a Sunday. We waited over an hour. But it was worth it! We will definitely be going to Geraldine's again! Oh yeah! && they had really strong cocktails. read more
