Absolutely amazing! The restaurant is beautiful in a cute neighborhood. Probably best to have a reservation because every table was taken! This was probably the best pasta I've ever had at a restaurant. The service was excellent. They had brought out the wrong bottle of wine and we didn't realize it til it was already poured, but the manager was more than willing to take it back and adjust it on the bill. Gemma's is a great spot for good food and drinks. The service is really good. Highly recommend the blood orange Margarita, the Korean Sticky Ribs, and the Ribeye. The reason for the lower score is due to the Temperature inside the restaurant. This place is entirely too cold to enjoy the meal. No exaggeration- I had to leave the restaurant four times during dinner to go outside. I hate the humidity but had rather sweat than sit in a restaurant and shiver. I heard another guest ask if it could be warmer and they were told they try to keep it nice and cool for the employees and it would take too long to warm it up. The hostess. Are incredibly rude. I walked in 2 weeks before the day I booked my table for. The lady behind the desk said "absolutely , I'll put you on this round table inside, it seats six" I said amazing thank you so much, see you soon We turn up and the hostess says your table outside is ready... I said I'm sorry but I booked the table behind you. Long story short ... they bumped me outside, for a Regular. Which I'm sorry... is just awful. The parpadelle with rabbit was delicious in a savory and light tasty sauce. The veal was delicious and the panna cota the same. Love Gemma ! Gemma was my 2nd Fine-Dining Choice for our weekend in Dallas, but man did our food Deliver! I'm a sucker for game meats and found the Rabbit Pappardelle to be absolutely divine. They didn't skimp on the meat and the swiss chard was a nice, slightly bitter, contrast to the richness of the creamy thyme sauce. My husband especially enjoyed his Chicken Porchetta which had a beautiful crust, tender& moist center, and paired beautifully with the white sauce and sweet carrots (We think they were cooked in White Wine + Sugar as we've done something similar at home.). We did, however, find the sweet raspberry sauce a bit odd. The starter bread is tasty (very scone-like) but it seemed a bit out of place. Showed up at 5 for our reservation, which is super early and not many tables were filled but there was plenty of staff. We were ignored for 25 minutes before we gave up and left. Cannot comment on the food or drinks since no one attended to us. I am a huge foodie and have been to thousands of restaurants and this is the worst service I've ever had. read more

My salmon was great and it was an *experience* to try such unique foods. Or at least unique to me. The appetizers weren't really my thing. Exotic. And the dishes were pricier. Made a reservation at Gemma with 3 other friends. The man who sat us was very friendly. We sat down, and the biscuits they served in the beginning were probably the best part of the meal. I asked for another one and would have gladly payed for one, but the waitress said she didn't know if she could get more as they were coming out of the oven. Then, I watched all the tables around us get more bread. My table ordered oysters as an appetizer, which were beautifully placed on a silver tray, but they sauces that came with them did not add any ideal flavor. It was busy, so understandably, our food came out after about a half hour. I was highly disappointed with my Paccheri as it came out rather cold, and without a lot of flavor. It would have benefited from more seasoning, but the meat was tender, so that was nice. The service was alright. It would have been beneficial to have another food runner or someone who helps when it's busy. Overall, highly disappointed given the rave reviews. read more

My fiancé and I were pleasantly surprised by Gemma. It's a small, intimate place that offers great food, strong drinks, and amazing service. I got the brodetto which is a must for seafood fans. The Basil Beauty and the blood orange margarita were delicious too. The restaurant manager, Mcgill, stopped in a few times to chat and check in with us throughout our meal which was so thoughtful and nice. He was very amicable and attentive. Between management and the servers, you feel super taken care of when you dine at Gemma. So, all in all, come for the food and stay for the hospitality. Totally recommend this place. read more

I was really conflicted about doing 3 vs 4 stars since there definitely a few it's that did not taste that did not reflect the menu. The service was great but drinks were meh. The drink I got was negroni sour and it was one of the worst I've had in a long long time. Typically the egg white will provide a smooth and frothy body but here the droplets of bitters that rested on the foam dictated the flavor. All you could taste the whole drink was bitters. The sweatbreads and the baby octopus starters were both well prepared and I would absolutely recommend both. Apparently sweatbreads aren't popular since it's the pancreas but they taste like pork rinds. Loved it. The main course was where I ran into trouble. The biggest being the Mahi Mahi and the veal cheek blanquette. The fish and the green curry really did not play well for me and I was underwhelmed. The meal is typically a stewy type dish that uses cream as an ingredient. Overall the dish was good and cheek was tender but it was not a blanquette that I know. If liberties are taken with specific dishes it should be stated as such. Also the the potato pave was one giant block potato as opposed to the multiple bits. The saving grace was the tenderness and almost au gratin layering? Once again, a wierd take on French food. read more

I am so glad that I was able to come to Gemma after being highly recommended by a friend. Here is the breakdown: Food- I ordered the rabbit pappardelle. It was divine. Very light, great taste and the noodle cooked at perfection. The wine selection is also great and has a very nice wine. Decor/ ambiance- Very nice restaurant with a very chic, contemporary and minimalist decor. Very nice for a date, friends gathering and even a nice family meal. Service- The waiters were all very courteous with great sense of urgency. We took a time there and did not feel rushed to leave at all. Overall- Had a very a nice evening and definitely enjoyed the experience. COVID procedures- Probably one of the best restaurants in terms of COVID measurements. The desserts were excellent. Best is their take on the apple crisp. Very refreshing and not overly sweet. Definitely my favorite between the Kiwi topped Passion fruit & Lavendar Crème Brûlée and the white chocolate strawberry topped bar. I was disappointed because the online menu showed a chocolate and peanut butter meringue. Seasons changed and so did the menu - the chocolate peanut butter meringue is no longer available. This was a 5 star experience for sure!! Located around Lower Greenville, it's actually a little bit more hidden. First of all, there's adequate parking but weekends they end up doing valet. Loved the ambiance of this place and they're still maintaining COVID precautions! Great drinks and apps- we got the grilled baby octopus and it was very well flavored! Main entrees were duck confit and pappardelle and both were so nicely seasoned and prepared. I was told that the main chef tends to add a bit of Asian flavoring. Went to Gemma this past wknd and thought it was a solid restaurant located in Dallas TX. I went ahead and got the following: Appetizer: Beet Salad Brussels Sprouts Octopus pasta Entree: Pappardelle Fried Texas Quail Wagyu steak Dessert: Got all 3! & espresso This place was a solid restaurant but didn't meet the high standards I was expecting. Everything was good but few notes: 1. Really liked the octopus pasta but the noodles were slightly overdone. 2. Brussels sprouts were over salty. 3. Beet salad was underwhelming. 3. Quail was cooked to perfection! Highly recommend! 4. Desserts were good but the tart was the one that everyone highly recommended but I like the chocolate peanut butter cake. The espresso was not made right, but don't think they had a good barista. The ambience was nice and the staff was very friendly! Liked how they still adhered to social distancing. date night #1. yes, this is true. being married now over 10 years, my husband and i have started dinner date nights. never in my wildest dreams did i think i'd be living in dallas, married, with house in the burbs... and happy. i was the wild child always looking for trouble. till... i hit my 40s. back to date night. gemma came highly recommended by a friend and she was absolutely spot on. the restaurant itself feels comfortable yet sophisticated. not too snobby but also not chicken wing casual. the food was delicious, menu is imaginative yet approachable. some classics like the mussels were belly satisfying. get some fries with that. skip the tater tots. that was the weakest dish. we always end up just sitting at the bar. imo, it's just more relaxed and your cocktail is always full. our bartender was charming, accommodating and a damn fine mixer. the drinks were not too sweet. i truly hate sweet drinks. it kills any meal you have. but gemma's cocktails paired wonderfully with our meal. wine list is top notch like most establishments in dallas. texans love wine. gemma did not disappoint. so much so we wanted our next date night there but i'm trying to stick to the plan of trying different restaurants for each date night. date night review #2, to come. read more

My Maggie and I just moved to Vickery Place and are now within walking distance of this gem of a restaurant, making our visits so much more enjoyable. Not me updating an old standard after several years... We ended up back at Gemma for anniversary season after waiting at The Porch for 45 minutes with no service. When I tell you it must have been FATE that brought us back! A friendly server told us they were understaffed for Covidious reasons, but we never would have known. It was such a beautiful experience. Ross, our server, never missed a beat. Frank took us on a journey with wine pairings that we will talk about for years. He even dropped off a spare cocktail from the bar that was, coincidentally, our signature cocktail at our wedding. (Can't make this stuff up.) Pepe, another server but not ours, talked about how well management works with staff. (Major points in our former-service industry hearts.) The hostess was incredibly kind and remembered us from a quick call we made on our way. And the food was on point, as always. We had mahi mahi ceviche, melon and prosciutto burrata, summer squash (best dish of the night), lion's mane mushroom, steak frites (always slaps), and crab tagliatelle (delicious but honestly too spicy to eat, we had to leave it behind). Oh and of course the fresh little bread scones had no right to be as tasty as they were. We stayed for one last drink at the bar because I have a negroni obsession and they have an entire Negroni menu?? I've literally dreamed of a Negroni sour before and theirs was everything I thought it would be. All staff was very covid-conscious and there was a full bottle of hand sanitizer at every table. 10/10, would return and just go there first next time. read more

Almost 2 years since I stumbled upon this place, and I'm so happy to be back! We had a reservation for two on a weekday evening. Our table wasn't ready yet when we'd arrived, as the restaurant was packed full! But it only took 5 minutes - just enough time to order our drinks at the bar! Service was excellent - efficient, friendly, polite. As I mentioned in my last review, I love the ambiance here. It's casual but with a hint of fanciness. We decided to be a little adventurous with our selections tonight, and what a delight it was! What we ordered: Appetizers: - mushroom soup (mushroom bacon, Parmesan cream, pickled shimeji) - venison tartare (pickled mustard seed, serrano, rice cracker) - crispy veal sweetbreads (arugula, apple, shaved fennel salad) Entrees: - seared mahi-mahi (green curry, Comeback Creek chiles, fingerling potatoes) - fried Texas quail (mole rojo, charred allium purée, corn salsa, pickled fresno chili) Drinks: - Texas heat (jalapeno-infused tequila, lemon, lime, simple, cilantro) - blood orange margarita (tequila, lime, blood orange puree, simple) - Saintsbury pinot noir, Carneros 2017 - Lang & Reed cabernet franc, Lake County, CA 2017 We split the mushroom soup; we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious this was! Of course, we expected the best of Gemma, but they certainly delivered! The warm soup contrasted with the cool parmesan cream - such a fun sensation! And the pickled flavor of the shimeji mushrooms was a nice contrast with the creamy goodness of the soup. The venison tartare: we expected this one to be game-y, but it wasn't as much as we expected. It certainly has that rich flavor, and it's a little on the oily side with a salty taste. It was good, but I wouldn't get it again. The veal sweetbreads were a nice touch - crispy, rich flavor (sort of reminiscent of liver) that was smoothened out with the salad and apple slices. I knew I'd like this one, as I like sweetbreads! Try it out if you're feeling adventurous. Entrees!!! This is where they shine, if the appetizers weren't enough to make you drool. I loved my mahi-mahi; the refreshing, soft fish went so well with the slight kick of the green curry. The fish was seared just right so that it wasn't dry in texture. Potatoes were crispy and a good compliment to the fish and curry! My friend's fried quail was good too - it reminded me of small pieces of fried chicken breast. I'm generally not a fan of chicken or fried foods, so I'd say this one was just okay to me. I love my drinks spicy, so I was immediately drawn to the jalapeno-infused tequila! Definitely has that kick I crave! I tried some of my friend's blood orange marg - it was a little too fruity for my tastes, but he enjoyed it! We got wine with our entrees, both of which were good! PS: There was no valet parking when we visited, but there is a decently spacious parking lot right next to the restaurant. So what are you waiting for? Book your reservation today! Wow. Top 5 meal in Dallas! Wifey and I strolled in on a Saturday evening at around 7pm and we were sure we would not get a table. To our surprise we got one right away! The hostess said someone just cancelled and she could get us seated now. Was actually faster than most places when we do have a reservation! I got the Alpinest and my dining partner in crime got a mock tail. Both were delicious. The Alpinest had a great Smokey taste and rosemary. We got the cauliflower, the grilled oysters, and the squid ink pasta. The hostess also comped is a fried olive app. The olive dish was my least favorite. We didn't finish it and I think it was just because we aren't that into olives. The cauliflower was outstanding. Served with some feta and grilled to the point where it was charred. That made it even better. The oysters were also good. They serve a really tasty complimentary table scone bread with Gouda and fig. We also got the turkey meatballs which were super tender and actually tasted like beef! The squid ink pasta was the best part of the meal. It was super light, fresh and ample portion with lobster. The waiter even split the pasta dish for us since we were sharing. Service was outstanding and I would recommend checking it out ! read more

My wife and I have been regulars at Gemma since the first year they opened. I was searching for one word that would fit Gemma after dinner tonight- my first thought was understated. I think they are one of the five best restaurants in Dallas. Their food and service are consistent, never wavering.They could easily be aloof and raise prices to match the quality but I believe they are moderately priced. Their cocktails are first class, top notch. I typically am not a big cocktail guy but their drinks are always really good. You never have to explain your cocktail ingredients, they know what they are doing. Best of all - they have expanded their wine list, French, Spanish, Italian and very eclectic American wines. We started with their fried olives and pecans. Enough for four, very good! Next , we shared a grilled Caesar Salad, not typically what I would order but I loved it. Our entree selections were (1) pork tournedos, (1) striped bass and two Tajarin White Truffle pasta. I had a taste of the pasta - light and delicious. The bass was incredible, probably my favorite seafood ever. My only issue was it was too small for an entree. Not because I loved it so much but it was just surprising that it was probably 1/2 the size that I would have expected and the beets underneath were incredible (and I don't like beets), so I didn't complain. I just attended a birthday dinner at Gemma and was blown away. From the moment we walked in the service was fantastic and every dish they brought out was killer. I was told, "the pork chop was the best I've ever had," and it lived up to the expectation. The table shared the following appetizers, starter, and desserts: the fried Castelvetrano olives, crispy curried cauliflower, mahi mahi ceviche with sweet potato chips, marinated squash, Basque cake, huckleberry tart, and s'mores chocolate semifreddo (This was decadent). Our server, Raoul, and the entire staff went above and beyond to make it a special evening--from a card signed by the staff to a birthday candle + complimentary night cap, we truly felt honored and celebrated. Cocktails were excellent and there were so many delicious-looking dishes on the menu it was hard to choose! We landed on the rabbit pappardelle and a duck leg special, both of which were cooked to perfection and plated beautifully. Far from your typical dinner fare, we were truly impressed by the complexity of the flavors and the level of care in the execution. The atmosphere was stylish, sophisticated, and romantic with great music and thoughtful lighting.
