I thought the food at Gemma was maybe slightly above average. For my entree, I ordered the rigatoni alla vodka. While I love vodka sauce and the taste was good overall, this version was a bit less flavorful than others, and the consistency was less creamy than I prefer. My husband ordered the sakura heritage pork, and we felt like the flavor was not super memorable. The patatas bravas on the side sounded good on the menu but were also about average. While our meal wasn't bad, given how many restaurants there are in the area, I'm not sure if I will be back.

I would definitely recommend checking this place out! Unusual for Dallas, but this actually has a parking lot and so it is easy to park. The restaurant is very nicely and intimately decorated our server was fantastic and made great recommendations. Our food came out cooked super perfection. The drinks were cold and delicious and I really had no complaints about my experience! Will definitely be back.

Gemma is a lovely dining experience, great service and hospitality. I think the menu has gotten larger, with several appetizer options that could also serve as vegetable sides. Our group all got something different and everyone enjoyed their meal, but I think I ordered best: skirt steak with shrimp fried rice, duck fat tots, dirty martini.

I came here for a fun celebration with my coworker. The ambiance is classy, perfect for a date or a cute place to celebrate with friends. The food was delicious and we got drinks as well. They have valet parking but you can find parking around the area as well if you prefer.

Charming bistro. When we first came in, we were greeted kindly and the first half of the meal was great. We were given scones with a salted butter. Started out with the Mussel Escabeche as an appetizer. The bread was buttery and grilled and it went well with the mussels vinaigrette sauce. The Idaho Trout was quite nice and flaky like white fish should. The biggest disappointment was the Akaushi rib eye as the mushrooms were dry on the ends and too oily and the rib eye was not well marbled. We didn't finish it. It was supposed to be 18 oz and for two people... but it doesn't seem to be worth it. The fries with garlic aioli was quite nice and would get again. Really nice staff, but I would not get the Akaushi rib eye again.

This place is more like a 3.75 out of 5 stars. With a newborn its so difficult to get some time to ourselves, but for our wedding anniversary we wanted to check out a place in dallas for a simple dinner. Luckily the in-laws were able to help watch the baby. I think this place is fairly popular, so you definitely should make a reservation online, and if you're looking to eat here on the weekend, i think you should make reservations a couple weeks in advance. They will first give you some homemade biscuits, which is both a bit savory and sweet. We ended up getting 1 item from the raw bar, two appetizers and two entrees. I think the best item was the hamachi, since it's been over 10 months since my wife and i had raw food, due to her being pregnant. The hamachi was really fresh and the sauce it came with was so flavorful. Out of the two entrees, i enjoyed the sakura pork more than the duck. However, the fries that came with the duck was really good. HAMACHI CRUDO orange, calabrian chili, crispy capers BURRATA Strawberries, snap peas, pecans, rhubarb, basil Beat Salad with creme fraiche SAKURA HERITAGE PORK "SECRETO" patatas bravas, bravas sauce, garlic aioli Duck with Fries The service was really good, and the interior design and vibe was great. There are some parking spots outside, but the majority if for valet. I think you'll need to be lucky if you want to self park.

We had a great experience dining at Gemma. From the moment we walked in, hospitality was friendly and we felt taken care of. Everyone is offered a small scone to begin with which was delicious. We then split the shrimp spaghetti and steak frites (substituted normal fries for the duck fat tater tots) and were very pleased with everything. The steak was solid and felt fair priced but the spaghetti was the star of the show and I would for sure order it again. Overall, we had a nice experience, enjoyed the warm atmosphere, and would come back again for a nicer date night. Note- make your reservation in advance because spots here go quickly.

Gemma - Saturday Dinner Review (4.5) Gemma absolutely delivered on every front during my recent Saturday dinner. Our waiter, Anthony, set the tone with his great personality and attentive service was friendly, professional, and perfectly timed throughout the night. We started with fresh scones that arrived warm, soft, and buttery that was definitely a decadent opener served with salted butter that honestly could have been dessert on its own. Next came the fried olives and pecans, an unexpected yet perfect pairing that I loved. Both the burrata and hamachi crudo followed and were absolutely exquisite. Everything was clean with vibrant flavors and beautifully presented. For my main course, I went with the Filet au Poivre accompanied by frites and a side of creamed spinach. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender, flavorful, and easily one of the best filet mignons I've had in Dallas. The frites were solid, and the spinach rounded out the plate nicely. For dessert, we shared the apple crisp and gianduja chocolate tart. Both were excellent, though not showstoppers definitely a nice way to end the meal but not the reason I'd return. Overall, Gemma is an outstanding restaurant with warm service, thoughtful food, and a relaxed yet polished atmosphere. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for one of Dallas's most consistently great dining experiences. Rating: 4.5 out of 5

Michelin star

We went to Gemma for Valentine's Day this year. The last time we came here was our first Valentine's Day together in 2020. We were really excited especially since they won a Michelin star last year. But overall the experience was pretty disappointing. Our server was nice enough but wasn't really helpful and didn't really guide our experience like you would expect at an upscale dining establishment. Honestly she barely spoke to us, didn't guide us through the menu, didn't really explain the drink options, she just took our order and moved on. My husband got an old fashioned that he liked, I started with a mocktail since I was driving, it was a basil ncucumber mocktail and it was incredibly sour. I may have gone with something else but when I asked the server I was told there was a basil cucumber or blood orange, again with very little details I figured basil cucumber was a good option. I drank it but it mostly tasted like tart infused water. We ordered an extra appetizer at the beginning of the meal, caviar tater tots. Again they weren't well explained, but I'm really glad we did order it because it was likely the best thing we had. For our first course on the pre fixe I got the salmon tartare which was lack luster. It really didn't have much flavor at all. My husband had the chicken liver mouse and he said it was good 7.5/10 for him. For the second course we both got the charred octopus dish. The dish was very one note, the octopus wasn't charred at all and all the elements kinda blended together. For the entree we both got the braised pork cheek. The cheek was tender and the polenta was cooked perfectly, but again the dish was one note. Like it was missing acid or something to set off the richness of the dish. For dessert my husband got the brownie and I got the semifreddo to go. The brownie he said was fine but nothing special. I haven't eaten the semifreddo yet. We left full but mostly disappointed. I understand it's a holiday and it's a big day of the year but when your bill including tip is almost $500 at a Michelin star restaurant, it feels pretty deflating to have such a lack luster experience.

This restaurant is definitely such a cute little gem! Went here for a girls dinner and we loved our dining experience. We loved the ambiance and the service and the food was great as well. We wanted to try everything because it all sounded so good on the menu that we probably over ordered.. (per usual) hahah but my favorite dish was probably the heirloom beets in their appetizer! And the pasta was good. The steak was just regular which is their Saturday special dish and the leek tart was interesting but kind of salty. Overall we had a great dinner here and I will definitely be going back to try some of their other dishes :)

We had such a lovely dining experience at this establishment. The service was top-notch. The food was exceptional. The drinks were pristine. Absolutely zero complaints. We cannot wait to dine again. Helpful hint.... Make a reservation because the restaurant is small and busy (without feeling rushed).

I was excited to try Gemma after hearing they received the Michelin Bib Gourmand again this year. They started us with cranberry bread and salted butter, not my personal favorite, but my parents liked it! We split a dozen oysters (half Maine, half Alabama) and the Maine oysters were definitely the winners. For mains, the skirt steak was a bit overcooked for me, but the shrimp fried rice had great flavor. I had the rigatoni alla vodka, good flavor from the Calabrian chilis, but the sauce was a little watery. The best dish by far was the braised rabbit pappardelle, packed with flavor and a must-try. Our waiter, Anthony, was very attentive with excellent recommendations. Service overall was great, and I loved the ambience and cozy vibes of the restaurant. We were too full for dessert, so I'll definitely be back to try more. Great experience!

My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner. Our server was excellent -- attentive, friendly, and even offered a couple of off-menu items that were delicious. My cocktail was also great. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try the duck frites because of my seafood allergy; the restaurant uses a shared fryer for seafood, so I opted for the pappardelle instead. It was tasty but the portion was smaller than expected. My wife ordered the skirt steak with shrimp fried rice -- she said the steak was a little too chewy, but the flavor was incredible. We finished with the affogato, but the ice cream was very hard (almost freezer-burned), though the espresso itself was excellent. Service was great until the very end -- when I handed over my card, the front-of-house staff, rather loudly, asked me to come up and enter my PIN instead of handling the situation discreetly. It was an awkward end to an otherwise enjoyable evening.

My date and I had an incredible experience at St. Martin's Wine Bistro…read more The ambiance sets the tone immediately. It's dark, moody, and effortlessly romantic, with a live pianist playing throughout the evening. It's the kind of place that feels intimate without being stuffy, perfect for a date night. The service was honestly some of the best I've had in Dallas. My water never dropped below two sips from full, the team was that attentive. It became amusing (in the best way) how on top of everything they were. Our waiter, Rene, was outstanding. He provided stellar recommendations from starters to entrées, drinks, and desserts. I trusted him enough to let him choose my glass of wine to follow my cocktail, and he nailed it. He also walked us through the menu in detail, which was incredibly helpful as first-time guests. The food absolutely delivered: * Shrimp St. Martins - Five jumbo de-veined shrimp in a rich, butter-like sauce that was decadent without being overwhelming. * Frisée Aux Lardon Salad - Rene thoughtfully split this tableside and served it onto individual plates. The dressing leans heavily Dijon-forward, so order accordingly if you're not a mustard fan. That said, the bacon was some of the best I've ever had: thick, slightly sweet, and perfectly cooked. * Sea Bass Ratatouille - Served over a tomato sauce, it was flavorful, well-balanced, and not too heavy. * Rack of Lamb - An extremely generous portion (which I happily helped my date finish). It was boldly seasoned and on the saltier side, which I personally loved, though I understand that may not be for everyone. * Affogato - A simple but perfect way to close out the meal. Between the romantic atmosphere, top-tier service, and excellent food, this is easily one of the better dining experiences I've had in Dallas.

Apparently it's a Dallas staple restaurant, having been around for more than 44 years, but it is now in a new location as of 2024. Starting from the moment you walk in you are enveloped in a very moody romantic French bistro. Just inside the front door you are greeted by the hostess. There's also a live piano player who plays live music at just the right volume. Tables are covered in white tablecloths with glowing candles. The booths are especially cozy! If you are looking for a romantic dinner spot this is your spot! The service here is on par and the food delicious! This particular night we started with the caviar service, then moved on to the mixed green salad. After that, honestly I was full so I just had Lobster Bisque for dinner while my husband had the lamb. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, but were too full to move onto dessert, maybe next time!

Our group of 6 got there at 5:30, 15 mins early for our reservation, prior to the large crowd about to come in for the concert that night. It took 30 minutes to put 5 martinis on the table. Our food did not come out until 7:30 - almost 2 hours after sitting down. Tables around us were served before we were and finished and left before our food came out. Not once did a manager or our server George come check on us or tell us there was an issue. Every meal that we received was cold, but we had no other choice but to eat it due to how long it took and making it to the concert by 8PM. This was the night of the Andrea Borcelli concert and the restaurant was full. Management should have prepared for a busy night. My party was so excited to eat in the Polar Bear room and head to the concert. How does a Michelin star restaurant let this happen and then force us to pay 20% gratuity? I was a server for 10 years and I would never let this type of experience happen to a party paying $100 a person in food and drinks. This was hands down the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Management - you need to really work on your guest service and experience. Such a disappointment.

Our waiter said they turned over 300 tables which is amazing for a smaller dining area. Only the fixed price menu is available on Valentine's Day. Bummer, no soufflé option. Our appetizers, mushroom soup and St. Jacques (seafood with puffed pastry top) were delicious! Unfortunately our sole with crabmeat entrees were disappointing. Probably a poor choice to order fish on a night like this. Possibly frozen vs fresh. On a normal night this dish has been outstanding but on this visit the sole was mushy - likely due to the masses. Desserts, tiramisu and strawberry cheesecake were both delicious. Definitely recommend the tiramisu.

Lavendou Bistro Provincial: A Taste of France Hidden in North Dallas…read more "Some restaurants transport you the moment you walk in. Lavendou is one of those places." Every city has a restaurant that locals quietly treasure, a place you visit again and again because it makes you feel at home and somewhere far away at the same time. For our family, Lavendou Bistro Provincial in Dallas is that place. It is one of my mother-in-law's favorites, which means anytime we are in town, this charming bistro becomes a must-visit. Located in a simple strip mall that does not reflect the magic waiting inside, Lavendou is the definition of a hidden gem. If you drove by without knowing what was there, you might not think twice. But the moment you step through the door, everything changes. The atmosphere shifts, the noise of the parking lot disappears, and you are suddenly surrounded by the warm colors and rustic charm of provincial France. It is the type of restaurant that reminds you why dining can be an experience rather than just a meal. Ambiance and Décor Lavendou has an inviting elegance that never feels stiff or formal. The décor is beautifully curated with hand-screened Pierre Deux fabrics, soft lighting, and touches that reflect the countryside of southern France. It creates a cozy environment that calls to mind long lunches, quiet conversations, and meals meant to be savored. What makes it even more memorable is the way all the elements work together. The space, the service, the food, and even the gentle background music create a sense of transport that very few restaurants achieve. Menu and Drinks Lavendou's menu is rooted in authenticity. The first glance tells you that you are in for an authentic French dining experience. Dishes celebrate the lighter fare of southern France with flavors that are thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully presented. Susan always goes for the lobster bisque, which is rich, silky, and deeply satisfying. My preference leans toward the French onion soup, which was flavorful and comforting, though I personally would have enjoyed a few more baguette slices to bring even more texture into the dish. It is one of my mother-in-law's favorites, which means anytime we are in town, this charming bistro becomes a must-visit. We never skip the escargots a la bourguignonne, which arrive bubbling in garlic butter with French bread ready to soak up every drop. It is one of those simple pleasures that remind you why classic dishes become classic in the first place. Food Quality For our main courses, Susan ordered the Sole De Deuvers with crabmeat, which she could only describe as outstanding. I selected the Gambas et Coqilles St. Jacques en Mille Feuilles. The presentation was stunning and set my expectations high. While the flavors were excellent, the scallops were a bit chewy and the shrimp slightly overcooked. Knowing the talent in this kitchen and having dined here many times before, I consider this a rare miss and fully expect to give this dish another chance during our next visit. Dessert at Lavendou is an event of its own. The Grand Marnier soufflé is a must order. Light, warm, fragrant, and decadent all at once. We have also enjoyed the chocolate soufflé on prior visits and can confidently say Lavendou excels at ending the meal on a high note. Service Service at Lavendou is exceptional. Friendly, gracious, and attentive without ever feeling intrusive. You can sense the pride the staff takes in the experience they deliver. Owner Pascal Cayet is known for his welcoming presence and dedication to every guest. You feel cared for from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. Value and Pricing Lavendou provides a dining experience that feels special from start to finish. Pricing reflects the quality, care, and craft behind every plate. From a value perspective, you receive every bit of what you pay for. This is a place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, or simply a meal with someone who appreciates great food shared in a beautiful setting. Overall Experience Dining at Lavendou is like stepping into a moment of the French countryside without ever leaving North Dallas. It is warm, comforting, elegant, and memorable. The combination of atmosphere, authenticity, and heartfelt hospitality creates a restaurant that stays with you long after the last bite. The Culinary Duo Rating: Lavendou remains one of the very best French dining experiences in the region. If you have not been, this is your sign.

Oh man... what a let down this visit was for us…read more My wife and I have come here at least once a year for the past 3 years, and we've always loved this place. The food has always been great and the experience was something we looked forward to. That's why we chose to celebrate an early Valentine's Day here -- to avoid the crazy rush and the preset menu. But this time? Completely different experience. We got seated right away because of our reservation, which was great. It took a few minutes for the waiter to come by -- no big deal. I ordered an Old Fashioned and honestly... the bartender needs some help. It came out full of crushed ice and tasted watered down. I sent it back, and the second one was basically the same drink with more whiskey thrown in. At that point, I just let it go. Then things just kept going downhill. After about 20 minutes, we realized we hadn't gotten any bread. We asked the waiter and he said he'd check. Another 10 minutes go by and he comes back saying, "Still no bread," and drops off the wrong appetizer -- we had only ordered a salad. He takes it back, and it's another 15 minutes before our actual salad shows up. Still no bread. At one point, we could literally see him arguing with someone in the back about why we didn't get bread yet. Not exactly something you want to watch during a date night. The food, when it finally came out, was delicious. No complaints there. But it took forever. By the time we were eating, it was about 45 minutes until closing... and we had gotten there two hours earlier. Then comes the payment situation. The waiter brings the check back and casually tells me I gave him two credit cards and he "just picked the brighter one." I look down and he had handed me someone else's credit card while mine was still sitting in the book. That's not a small mistake. Overall, it just felt unorganized and sloppy this time. I don't know if they're short staffed or just getting too busy for their own good, but it was disappointing, especially for a place we've genuinely enjoyed in the past. Hoping it was just an off night... but it definitely made us think twice about coming back.
