Though Gadgetworks was ultimately not able to recover my data, they were extremely professional and a had excellent customer service. I brought in a corrupted SD card. They explained very clearly how the process would work - $25 for diagnostics and only $75 if they're able to recover the data. However, when they found the work was outside their capabilities, they waived the $25 fee and didn't charge me anything for the work they'd done. Incredible and exceeded my expectations. My power adapter broke and I was unable to charge my laptop. Best Buy quoted around $150 and up to 3 weeks. Other local businesses quoted less time, but around $100-$125. Prashant Patel quoted $75 and 24 hours. I brought the laptop in on Monday and he called me 20 minutes after opening on Tuesday to pick it up. He did all his own soldering to the motherboard and gluing. When I picked it up, he said everything on the laptop will break before the power adapter ever breaks again. His partner at the Glenview store is more of the software expert and fixes those kind of issues. These guys fix everything, cracked screens on phones, water damage, data recovery, broken parts, tablets, ipads, androids, etc. I finally found a repair shop for my gadgets that I can trust and feel good about the value in service I am receiving. read more

100% FAILURE. I brought two laptops there: one Dell Inspiron and one Macbook pro. They failed to fix any of these computers, let alone saving any of data and stuff like that. In other words, they just WASTED MY TIME. On top of that, they expected me to pay cover fee which was total of $275. I took my laptop in because the track pad wasn't working. They told me that they would call me the next day to give me an estimate of when the laptop would be fixed and when I can pick it up. Not only did they fail to call, when I called they told me that their technician wasn't available to fully diagnose the problem and that he would not be available until Friday (I sent the laptop in on Monday). I leave the country Thursday and I need my laptop for work when I travel. So I asked if I can come pick the laptop up so that I can send it to another repair store, they told me that if I came to pick it up, they would charge me a $25 diagnostics fee...$25 FOR WHAT!! I ALREADY KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY LAPTOP AND I ASKED YOU TO FIX IT. NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT YOU CANT FIX MY LAPTOP AND I HAVE TO PAY TO PICK IT BACK UP. I guess I didn't know that my laptop was being held hostage. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!!!! Update: After speaking to the Gadgetworks stir in Glenview and having that technician take a look at my computer, he was nice enough to give me repair estimates and wave the $25 fee if I decided not to get my computer repairs with them. I am giving them 5 stars and I did not even get my computer fixed! The 5 stars is for their honesty. I brought my computer in, and the fix would have been chancy and expensive. The gentleman there told me about a less expensive alternative, which is a USB and is what I went with. They rip you off for tasks that you can easily do at home. They misinform and exaggerate your problem. In my case, this led me to take a wrong step with my hard drive. Here's my story. My external hard drive loaded with important files wouldn't mount after have been plugged to an android TV box. Mac Disk Utility couldn't repair it so I brought it to this store down the street, thinking they might have more professional software to repair the partition table or recovery files. They charge $25 dollars for diagnostics. Fine with me. After several days, I was told that the hard drive was irrepairable on the phone. "The drive won't mount," said the guy. After the call I was like, of course it won't, that's why I brought it in for you guys to repair. Anyway I dropped by to retrieve my drive. In the store I was given more explanation. The guy said that he tried to repair the disk but failed. At this point I knew that data recovery had to be performed to get any data back. But then he said that this was a HARDWARE PROBLEM and the drive is NOT USABLE ANYMORE. He explained to me that 'there is a main board that control the hard drive and it's defect.' To recover the data, he suggest me send the drive to the guys at drivesaversdatarecovery.com. If you go to that site you see people in dust free rooms working on hard drive internal parts. It cost $500+ to do the recovery. You'd believe that your drive is really broken beyond repair I believed him and was about to throw the drive out, as the data on that drive isn't worth $500. Then one day I thought I'd just try reformatting it and see if it works. To my surprise, the drive spins up fine and totally works. I suddenly realize that I made a mistake. After reformatting, retrieving data gets harder. Angry, I felt I was misled by Gadgetworks. So I went back to argue. They refund my money which is not the point I was trying to make. Meanwhile they insisted they were right. And get this. The guy showed me the 'diagnostics' he performed. He just ran REPAIR DISK AND REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS with disk utility on a mac. When that failed, that's when they had told me that the drive had a HARDWARE problem. And that's all they did to charge $25. Now, in case you didn't know, with any free data recovery software from online you can run a hard drive recovery at home with your laptop and get some of your permanently deleted files back. I did that with my other hard drive and found many movies back. When you delete a file, you only the location information of the data, the data itself is still scattered intact on the drive somewhere. Data recovery programs scan the whole drive and try put some of the pieces together. You won't get the original hierarchy of files but you can still recovery many important files like pictures and documents. And this guy told me all my data is gone and want me to spend $700. I was on the brink of losing two years worth of pictures and videos on my phone. It broke, wouldn't even turn on, and I was dumb and didn't back up my files. The wonderful staff at Gadget Works were able to repair my phone and salvage all of my photos and videos (which included my sister's wedding, and bringing home my first dog). They went above and beyond in their efforts to restore my phone and get my files for me. After the routine attempts didn't work, they didn't give up. They knew what I had riding on it, and they kept trying until the finally succeeded. I recommend them for any service you might need. These guys are awesome! The screen on our IPad has broken three times, and they have replaced it and done a fabulous job each time, at a much lower price than Apple. The last time, our cat jettisoned the IPad off the counter three hours before my kids and I were heading to the airport for a long flight. I just have to say that when I called freaking out about a problem I had with my hard drive the staff was extremely patient and kind with my franticness. Not only did they explain how they could help diagnose the issue (which was only 25 dollars and in my experience that's pretty good), but they calmly explained the process of how things would be handled.
