Yo where do I even begin? I visited this location at 5pm 4/15/21 with my mom. We walked in and were ignored for 5-10 minutes by the 4-5 teenagers running the Pick Up area. There were maybe two waitresses on duty, and the place was pretty dead. Not one person greeted us. We were treated as burdens. After we waited and we're finally seated, the waitress came over multiple times while we were deciding what to order, as if she wanted us gone. Our food was out in 10 minutes. The bacon cheeseburger and fries were good, but my mom said her soup and turkey dinner tasted as if they were half microwaved. All of a sudden, the entire high school girl's volleyball team decided to show up. They were very loud and annoying. At that point we wanted to be gone, but we also wanted ice cream. We ordered a milkshake and a sundae to go, hoping that the staff would get the hint that we wanted to go. No of course when we wanted to go, they took forever preparing our ice creams, probably due to the sports team that decided to occupy the entire restaurant. It took maybe 20 minutes for our simple desserts to be brought out, but then we had to ask for our check. Although it was pretty clear that when we ordered them to go that we wanted to, you know, go. That took another 20 minutes because the waitstaff was managing th teenage girls who showed up after us. But the check was wrong. We were overcharged by more than $30! If it was $1-$5 we wouldn't have cared, but $30 is a lot. My mom brought it to their attention, and they weren't the least bit apologetic. It took forever for them to correct it, and we didn't receive an apology until we got a half assed one towards the very end. You would think since they messed up that badly that they would at least make it a priority to correct their mistake, but of course the people here didn't. Anyway we finally at long sweet last got the hell out of there after a whopping hour and a half. Safe to say we will not be returning, and I will warn all my friends to stay away. read more

Worst. Experience. Ever. There is three of us including a 1 year old around 5:30pm. It's not busy in there at all, we give our drink order, great. Mind you we have no idea what our server's name is, she never introduced herself. Came back with drinks in about 2 seconds, and asked us for our food order. We had barely opened our menu, then proceeded to ask us again maybe 2 minutes later, up still not ready. When we finally did order, food was mediocre and I was severely disappointed that my usual item was no longer on the menu so I had to settle for something I really didn't want; okay not expecting much from Friendly's but my husbands sandwich was ice cold while mine was so hot it was almost inedible. Our food came with fries, I guess giving you 10 fries is now the standard, really could you slump anymore? We kept feeling rushed by our server like we were bothering her. Mind you we never said a word and just dealt with it. Ended up only getting the sundae for our son that was included in his meal cost even though we were going to get something too, because we kept getting rushed and frustrated. Again, I never said a word. A manager comes over and asks us how everything was... I told him that we felt as if we were being rushed for no reason. He did apologize and tell us to take all the time we needed, when we were already done everything. The server came over to apologize as well but almost as if she was forced to by her manager, and then proceeded to give us the wrong bill. Luckily we had a working Ziosk (shocker because they are almost never working) so we could pay that way. Also the high chair was broken and no one seemed to care even though my child almost fell out of it several times. It's frustrating that this is the experience we had since they're trying to regain business not continue to lose it. Avoid this location like the plague, not worth it. First off the food is WAY overpriced! I get they have a family friendly shtick, but Chuck E. Cheese or Olive Garden will give you more food at a fraction of the price. Then the two women behind the counter just turned around and walked out back without saying anything. I waited 10 minutes and just left. I'm never one to comment but 35mins+ for a sundae for my son, several people waited 45 mins for food they ordered and had to cancel order because food was missing, not 1 but 2 families who were waiting to be seated that left cause there wasn't anyone to seat them, the miserable manager who seemed to be more annoyed that there were customers coming in rather then trying to fix the poor service with inexperienced workers was the topper of it all. We received some gift cards for Christmas, so have now been with the kids three times. Thankfully the gift cards are done so we don't feel obligated to go back. The first time was bad, and each visit after has been even worse. This most recent visit there wasn't anything good, literally not a thing. Our server clearly hates her job, as she looked miserable from the get-go. Kids meals came out first, and about 3 minutes later my wife literally had to get up and ask someone for silverware so they could eat. We ordered our deserts to go, and after a while I looked up at the ice cream counter and saw 3 employees standing around talking while a bag sat there. Bill was paid, kids were impatient, and sure enough that was ours. I finally got up to ask if it was ours and got attitude from the employees standing there not doing their job. Oh, and probably the most important part, I remember Friendly's at least having halfway decent food years ago. I just spent $33. on two burgers,2 fries and two icecreams.. This evaluation of this establishment is based on me getting taken to my table only for me to wait and end up leaving shortly after I arrived. My waitress did come by and greet me only to leave and go assist other servers. I don't know about others but when I go to a place to eat I have expectations and the first is to be waited on, not ignored. Now I have never been a waitress but here are a few tips for the waitresses for this Friendly's. 1) Make eye contact and greet your customer with a smile, hand them their menu and ask them what they would like to drink. 2) While you get their drink and dining utilities allow them time to browse the menu. 3) Return with drinks and utilities. Make eye contact, provide another smile and ask if they are ready to order. 4) Take the time to make some suggestions or provide them with the daily specials or any coupons that might be available. 5) Take their order 6) Bring out the order and ask if they need anything else. 7) Allow them to eat for a few minutes and then return to see how everything is and if they need anything more. 8) Every so often check in with them to see if they need anything else and once you noticed that they have almost completed eating their meals give them their check and with a smile thank them and tell them to have a nice day. A little courtesy goes a long way! Seriously, these are things that these young people should already know. In the end, it is not a place that I care to patronize under the current conditions. read more

Drive Thru Experience... at a Friendly's? How droll. I actually stumbled upon this spanking new plaza across from... another plaza in Marlborough. In my younger years I spent some good time in Marlborough with friends so to just see this place shoot up out of nowhere.. was a bit of a flooring moment. BOOM! But this review is for the 2 drive through experiences I have had at this friendly's and its an even 3 star experience. You wont be able to order the full menu as you drive up - there are about 8 combos , mostly burger or chicken sammich ones and it doesn't even take half the time as a sit down meal inside the restaurant. Dont go crazy ordering 15 meals in the drive though - it DOES take longer than McDonalds/BK etc. I will have to note on here that the quality of burger I got was NOT like that of the inside restaurant - It was thinner and really truly tasted like different quality of meat. Not much flavor. Only have american cheese in the drive through - which I am most Meh.. about because its the worst cheese in the damn world,... but if you need a simple meal thats BETTER by far than McDonalds and Can't find the time to ecape the car, this is actually a really good pick. It is quick, and serivce was very friendly and on point. I recommend the #7 and get mini mozzerella bites instead of fries. GOOD DEAL! read more

We noticed and thought it was kinda funny that one of the girls making sundaes had chocolate on her face... few minutes later saw her spray whipped cream from the can into her mouth while preparing people's food. 3 of my business acquaintances and I wanted to enjoy a nice meal. We were on a tight schedule with an hour to spare. We sat down for lunch which took about 10 minutes due to short staff. It took ages for the waiter to finally come up to us and take our order despite the low amount of customers. We ordered our meals which took an extraordinarily long time to receive. Said 'meal' was interestingly prepared. My coworker and I ordered hotdogs with a side of fries. We were presented 40 minutes later with a greasy hotdog and a minimal side of soggy fries. My other colleague received the chicken tenders that looked and tasted like faecal matter. Furthermore, my other associate received some greasy hands from her buffalo chicken sandwich. Not even the substantial amount of napkins could solve this dilemma. Keep in mind this took up 2/3 of our lunch break. With hope still in our hearts, we ordered some ice cream. Surely, ice cream couldn't take too much time on our plates. This is when catastrophe struck. Our boss called all 4 of us asking where we were and that we must get back to the office. We told her as soon as our bill arrived and that we would get back as soon as possible. This in fact was NOT very soon. Now this is because, our simple ice cream dishes took an enormous amount of time to be served to us. She did not come back to us if we wanted the check. We had to physically walk up to counter at the front to request our bill and pay for our food. Overall, this nice lunch meet-up, progressively became a disaster. read more

I like the fact that the tables have the tablet right there for the customer to use for paying the bill , ordering starters and call the waitress. I got a salad while I was there and it was good. The problem is that the waitresses are either not getting the tips they would get if they came back and forth to table(I don't think that's the case), or they hired people that haven't figured out that a smile and hello are worth more to a customer than seeing them come by several times (everything all right, can i get you your check etc) . If they work with what they have, and aren't too busy to explain it to their customers; then they'll get bigger tips than the restaurants without the table side tablet. Why is that? 1. because the customers feel more comfortable in a place where they control how many times they see the waitress 2. The service is faster and more accurate if the customer can sit down at a table and put in the starters themselves. How many times does a new customer sit down and say "where is my waitress? UGH! I've taken my family here a few times and it's been fine. Nothing great, but fine for a fun family time out. My wife was home, sick and wanted some Icecream, so I thought I'd get her some as well. We ordered two (different sundays) with different types of Icecream. I ordered online and went to the restaurant about 15 minutes later to pick it up, which is when the online menu said our order would be ready. I get there and the place is near deserted save two families. It was Thursday at around 3pm, so you'd expect that. However, no one was manning the counter. So I pulled out my phone and I waited... and waited... and waited... About 6 or 7 minutes later the woman from drive-through came out and said she'd be right with me. Okay fine, maybe they're short-staffed. I'll let it slide. So I waited... and waited... still nothing. Another five minutes go by and she pops out again to wave to someone outside. She doesn't say a word to me and disappears. Finally, another waitress comes out and asks if I'm all set. This is about 15-20 minutes after my arrival, mind you. I say I'm picking up an order. She takes my name and looks for it. Surprise surprise, she can't find it. Then she grabs an order slip that's still on the machine... low and behold, no one noticed the order come in. Wonderful. So I sit and wait while she makes my order. Finally, a half an hour after I got there, I'm walking out with my sundays. So at this point, I'm slightly annoyed. What should have been a 5 minute transaction, turned into a half-hour ordeal. I wouldn't have minded, but I paid online and everything to avoid a wait to get home quickly. So I get home and give my wife her sunday and then take mine. I made sure we both got the sunday we ordered. I pulled out the spoon and took a big bite... of coffee Icecream. I hate coffee. The waitress apparently didn't pay attention and mixed up the flavors. So my wife got mine in her sunday and I got hers in the Jim Dandy. Look, I am not an unreasonable person, typically. However, when you make me wait and then screw up my order, it kind of annoys me. So you guys earned this review. Will I give you another chance... dunno. Depends on my mood. Both times I went there was order was wrong. I went through the drive threw and asked for a scoop of vanilla chocolate and strawberry.... I got home and only had chocolate and vanilla.... there was no line at all it shouldn't have been wrong. That was my entire order... that's a staff that doesn't care at all while working.... Friendly's is changing their entire model, which in some terms is great and for some not so much. While I miss their high presence throughout the greater Boston area, seeing any company want to do better (ex. reinventing themselves, like Friendly's is) is always preferred than just going out of business. Look at the many retailers who have not wanted to change their business model to do better, Ruby Tuesday (which seems to be closing restaurants left and right), Borders Bookstore and many others in recent days. Now, Friendly's has decided to try again with these "new concept" restaurants that they plan to add twelve of each year to replace the older, more desperate restaurants. These "new concept" restaurants include a drive thru, and a full new, modernized model inside to make customers experiences better. It seems cleaner, more organized (in terms of staff) and more pleasing to customers in general. I haven't gone inside yet (I used the drive thru), but my service was extraordinarily fast in comparison to the last time I went to Friendly's and seemed to wait an hour for ice cream only, and just from looking inside from the parking lot, it looked well organized and clean. While since I haven't dined in yet, I cannot give a review on the food, I can say that Friendly's is definitely in the right direction, and this new Marlborough location gives the entire Apex Center a new great ice cream spot. There are good things and bad things about this restaurant. When we came in, the floors were sticky -- not really a great first impression. The staff here is extremely young-- I didn't see anyone that looked to be 30. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but as we waited for a table, there was a loud crash in the back and the staff burst out laughing. Our waiter spilled my daughter's drink on her menu and didn't have napkins to clean it up. He also didn't know which drink was which when he put them in front of us. I asked about a AAA or an AARP discount and our waiter could not answer my question. The decor of the restaurant is bright and cheery and despite the sticky entrance floor, it seems clean. The staff were constantly cleaning the empty tables, which restore my faith that they were trying to keep the place sanitary. The menu is standard Friendly Chain food. We are familiar and comfortable with the menu and know the quality of the food, so we knew it was going to be decent. I ordered the parm super melt as I never tried it before. Instead of fries I asked for coke slaw instead of fries. The sandwich was tasty and my order was correct. My daughter got the chicken broccoli macaroni and cheese and enjoyed it. My son ordered off the kid's menu and got the mini cheeseburgers. He ate the whole thing. Our waiter was friendly and attentive despite is lack of knowledge about the discounts. I never did get an answer. We also got our food pretty fast which is a surprise as the chain in known for slow but friendly service. I would come back. The sticky floor could be fluke land our waiter could be new. Overall if you enjoy no nonsense food and a good price, you will do fine here. read more

I tried Friendlys for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised! The I had the clam strips with fries and onion rings. The portions were plentiful and everything was delicious! The ice cream is great too! Waited quite awhile for refills and eventually had to get someone's attention to get one. Went here with my boyfriend tonight to get ice cream and a to-go meal. First off we were not greeted by our server for at least 10 minutes. Not even a "I'll be right with you" . She came over took out ICE CREAM orders. We got 2 medium Sundaes. They took 25 minutes to come to the table. The guests sitting right next to us that came in after us got their meals before us. How does food come out before ice cream? By the way it's not like they were busy at all maybe 3 tables total. We finally got our ice cream and it literally looked terrible. Well I was not surprised of the service I received because I stopped going to this location 1-2 years ago for this very reason. I can't fit in the amount of wrong with this "restaurant". The manger who had no name tag just an older rude women in a purple shirt is terrible and the fact she still works there is astonishing. I watched serval families walk out after not being acknowledged for more than 10-15 minutes. There were filthy tables all over the place from past diners, as well as the countertops behind where they make Ice cream were FILTHY. We had to tell them to put our ice creams back in freezer because we had been waiting 15 minutes still for our food. Yet the food was cold when we went to eat it so I am not sure what we waited for. The only associate giving a damn in there was a girl named Hanna. She was trying to clean and handle everything as best she could. The "manager" was too busy angerily throwing things into the sink. When associates would ask her questions she responded abruptly and was dismissive. A family friend came over and wanted Friendlys for dinner and I tried to warn him. I hope our server Macy was just having a bad day because her personality was awful and if this is consistent she needs to find a job in another industry. Her miserable personality gave me a bad vibe all during our birthday lunch. She didn't smile once, never checked on us at all. She dropped an ice cream all over the floor, looked at it and walked away-another employee found it and cleaned it up. Never came back to give us check once our food was out. It was busy, but not out of the ordinary for a weekend. There really was no need for her 'tude.
