I recently met a friend here for a coffee date and I fell in love with their charm. Cozy inside with tasty coffee/tea drinks and beautifully made Japanese-and-French inspired pastries. My soy vanilla latte was nicely made, not cloyingly sweet. The Swiss and bacon quiche was good, albeit a little small for the price. The savoury croissant with caramelized onions and Swiss though? Whew! Excellent stuff. I bought an almond chocolate croissant for my MIL who raved about it. Next time I visit, I'll pick up an assortment of those beautiful macarons and a green tea latte for my husband who loves those. The barista behind the counter was super-friendly and so was the cashier. Tables were a little neglected though and could have done with a wipe-down. Parking is limited to street only. Directly in front of the cafe, it's a bus stop. Because of its proximity to the zoo, there isn't a lot of parking when the weather is nice. read more

I'm Japanese and don't like green tea or anything containing azuki beans. Period. Weird, I know :) I've tried it several times in several different forms...but nothing I have ever tasted changed my mind. That is until I ordered the Green Tea Azuki muffin at Fresh Flours. Why would I order such a thing after a lifetime of hating the very two main ingredients that make up this muffin? Well, Yelpers claim it's amazing. I decided...what the heck, if it sucks I can always just buy something else to munch on. But!!! It did NOT suck. In fact, I actually really liked it! Maybe it was just the right proportion of green tea to azuki bean? Or maybe it was the synergy of the two flavors (you know, the whole "interaction of several parts that makes their combined effect greater than the sum of their individual effects")...whatever the reason, bottom line: it was damn good. read more

Great space, very creative twist on your traditional bakery. There really is something here for everyone, so be ready to get a number of things to try. From the Japanese inspired creations to tea lattes and soups and sandwiches, you could probably eat every meal here and be pretty satisfied. I ordered the cinnamon roll, ham and cheese croissant, and a bacon, swiss, and carmelized onion quiche. Also got a coffee, tea, and kid's steamer. The croissant was amazing-- flaky, buttery, just the right ratio of croissant-to-filling. The quiche was underwhelming. This is probably in part to the lack of warmth-- my go-fer didn't bother having it warmed, but also because I found there to be too little bacon, onion, and swiss and too much cream. The crust was flaky, but tasted store-bought or freezer burnt. Child licked off all the icing on the cinnamon roll, but the real test of a good baked item-- he actually ate the roll part, too. I come to FF frequently. General favorites are the quiche, and the fruit pastries, croissants and Basque cake. Has a big window looking onto Greenwood Ave which is great on a typical Seattle cloudy day. I'm also partial to the authentic Japanese wagashi from the bakery up the street. If I need a special treat for someone I indulge in the wagashi. Service is good. I used to frequent the Ballard location, but they were priced out by the extravagant urbanization in my n'hood for the past 20 years. read more

Let's start by talking about one of my fav things: matcha. Matcha green tea latte, matcha macaron, matcha pound cake, matcha cookies. Love it. I started out with the green tea macaron, which was light and texture was good, but not one of the best I've ever had. I also ordered a green tea latte, which was creamy and not too sweet. but I would have preferred the drink completely unsweetened, however, the matcha comes from a sweetened premade blend. Not matcha, I ordered the twice baked almost croissant. This was delicious, and if it was heated up, it would be even more amazing. I'll have to ask and see if they do that next time. This is also a great place to study. They have the main cafe area, where you order, but there's also a side room, that's nice a quiet, with plenty of tables and chairs. Overall, I really enjoyed Fresh Flours and plan to be back soon to try all things matcha (+ another twice baked almond croissant)! read more

Just tried Fresh Flours for the first time... service gets an A, for sure, with the friendliest baristas I've encountered in weeks (though it could be the fact that I'm now on the West Coast). Ambience gets an A, as well, with sunlight pouring in from the east as families get their collective acts together, older couples chat, and young professionals grab muffins to stick in their bags before biking or Priusing (yeah, that's a word, I said it) to work. Only thing that could be better? The flours themselves. Pastries here get around a B minus when compared to true patisserie - they need more butter, more flake, and more layering to really wow the consumer. Don't get me wrong- they get the job done and they're a convenient addition to the community. Still, if this spot wants to blow up as a pastry shop, they're going to have to up their game with the recipes. read more

Stopped by today after a work meeting. The cashier was very welcoming and happy, even in morning. I didn't try coffee today because I already had plenty before coming. I saw that a lot of yelpers were getting the matcha and red bean muffin. I was really excited for it, I'm a big fan of matcha! Unfortunately, it was pretty dry and bitter even though it was super buttery. Also it was a little bitter, and the red beans didn't add much flavor to the muffin. However, I really enjoyed the bacon quiche. It was perfect for breakfast! Next time I really want to try their coffee. This place got crowded pretty quick after I sat down. :-) read more

For non-dairy options, the Green Tea Latte with Oat milk substitution is one of the best I've ever had. It pars excellently with any of their sweet pastries, but notably well with their real fruit danishes, or my favorite, one of the Orange Pistachio Biscottis. Was hungry around the area on a beautiful Sunday morning and stopped here because of the good reviews. Why have you led me stray, yelp?? The $9 sandwich I ordered was cold, dry, and just horrible. It definitely wasn't fresh. It tasted like it was made days ago and left out. Worse of all, the lady who worked there was so rude and unfriendly. If I could sum up her personality, this would be it: insert angry face here I went over to 7 eleven and got something warm and much better tasting at a fraction of the cost. After hearing ravings about the pastries here, I was disappointed. Ordered a selection of croissants in the morning and a danish, all of which were quite decent. (almond, chocolate, plain, ham and cheese, etc...). Decent, and utterly failed to live up to the hype. Were they better than average? Yes. But not enough to be memorable. read more

What's not to like? Clean little cafe with easy free street parking, good service, plenty of tasty treats (including French macarons!!!), and good coffee. Ok, one complaint - they only had a weird (turmeric?) chai, and if you're only going to have one chai option, I would've preferred a normal chai. Loved this place!!! They have the most delicious pastries and yummy coffee. Walked in here randomly on a Sunday morning since I was in the neighborhood and I am so glad for it! They serve delicious coffee from Olympia Coffee and Stumptown and the pastry case is pure art!!! They have the most delicious cinnamon rolls but only on weekends, so if you find yourselves here on a weekend, definitely grab one! You cannot go wrong with anything from their pastry case! I got the almond croissant, a pear and almond galette, and a strawberry and almond galette and every single thing was absolutely incredible! Definitely worth a visit! read more

This is my favorite bakery in Seattle. Almost everything is great here, but I especially like Mixed Berries Danish, Peach Danish, and Green Tea Muffin. Their coffee is also great. It is a popular bakery and can be crowded on Saturday/Sunday morning, but usually I can find a seat. read more

Talk about perfect way to start my second day in Seattle for my Seattle RnR Marathon weekend. Thankful for my friends that stayed with that suggested start with coffee and pastries before walk down the street for day at Woodland Park Zoo. I guess they have couple other locations around the Seattle area. I wished they had couple other locations in Vegas. =(( Starbucks for me go nothing close to Fresh Flour. It not so much the mass chain versus smaller coffee shop. It really does feels more of local coffee shop. The service is not doubt five stars the two guys working one making coffee and the other cashier. Friendly, personable, and other customers commented that they were wearing the same style shirts. They got good chuckle and just laid back mind set enjoying life. I love those vibes start the day. The selection of pastries thought was awesome. I ended up getting the almond croissant and coconut carrot muffin. Both were amazing. The muffin was moist, tasty, and perfect amount of shredded coconut/carrots. The croissant was buttery, flaky, and on point. I had mocha that was heavenly. They also have macarons, sandwiches, biscotti, and sure missed couple. Inside not that many places chill out. If full outside few seats right outside that can chill at relax and see people walking towards the Zoo or people riding bikes or running along the streets. Great coffee spot!!! read more

I was told there was macarons and I hurried right over. Okay, I didn't hurry but I went with Jeanny and Jen and it was great. The ladies were lovely and the cookies were good, but still, not GREAT. I am becoming incredibly picky about these damn cookies. The other sweet bread we ordered for my little one was a bit dry, don't recall which bread it was but I wasn't super impressed. I have driven by Fresh Flours on my way to other places many a time, and I always wondered what they were like. After the new location opened up in Ballard I thought that I might want to check them out. And finally after a recent discussion in Yelp Talk about green tea lattes (as well as the pastries at FF), I knew I needed to get on with it! We didn't make it over until early afternoon, so I was worried the selection of goods wouldn't be that great. However, there were still plenty of options. My mom selected a peach danish, and I chose my beloved chocolate croissant. Both were excellent - not too sweet, plenty crisp and delightful. I had my very first green tea latte, which was very sweet, but also pleasantly grassy. As it was my first, I don't have anything to compare it to, but I did enjoy it. I'd probably just stick with tea next time, as it was a bit to sweet to enjoy with a pastry. There were plenty of seating options - both large and small tables, and a few comfy spots as well. Staff was friendly, and the counter is easy to see over. I was also delighted to notice their salad selection features several choices that *don't contain cheese*! So many salads are basically greens, plus one veggie and then cheese - and those of us who don't love cheese end up paying $8 for hardly anything. This was a nice surprise, and the next time I'm craving a salad that I don't feel like making I'll be sure to stop in. read more

In a town where there are more cafe/bakeries than there are insurgents in Baghdad, it is odd that so few of them aim to be different. How many Vegan Bran Muffins can one latte-sodden Seattlite down in one year? Fresh Flours bucks the trend by offering a number of Japanese crafted baked goods, including various green tea breads and muffins, odd nut covered things, and savory pastries that are as delicious as they are delicate. My Manhattan-based architect brother-in-law and his Japanese girlfriend returned three times in a row to Fresh Flours on a recent visit. Try as I might, they preferred repetitively ingesting Fresh Flours' Yuzu soy pudding to the Vegan Bran Muffin. FF's espresso drinks are good as well, and although the barista hails from the talkative side of the espresso bean pod, I have always found him to be good-natured and a decent conversationalist. If your Prius can't make it to Greenwood, you can also find Fresh Flours baked goods at Vertigo on Capitol Hill. read more

Excuse me, but I've discovered the croissants here since my last review - and they're phenomenal. Flaky and light on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside. My boyfriend loves the ham & cheese ones, but I'm partial to the plain and almond ones. The almond one does have a great deal of sweet paste inside though, so it's not for the faint of heart. One of my favorite cafes in Seattle. Such a cozy space, and the espresso and house-made pastries are always excellent. They also have a unique selection of pastries made with Japanese flavors, like their delightful green tea muffin, a red bean croissant, and yuzu and green tea macrons. Service is always friendly, and I love the little selection of Japanese wagashi that they have from Tokara (just up the street) as well. Other than the danish we had: Green tea cookies & sesame cookies - both solid especially if you like those two flavors Chocolate hazelnut biscotti - not that good, a lack of sweetness for me Macaroons - Delicious. Relatively small even for a macaroon, however packed with flavor. $1.35 a pop! Cool flavors of Green Tea, Passion fruit, Chocolate, Raspberry, Earl Grey, and Black Currant. Comfortable seating, free WiFi, and outlets makes this an excellent place to work if you are in the area. WARNING: This is a go-to for moms with their demon spawn (no offense) can't really avoid it with the way the place is marketed. I like children, however not when they are screaming like banshees a kind of blood curdling wail while running back-and-forth in the store a la Pat Bateman in the streets of New York. read more

You MUST try the savory croissant - caramelized onions and real swiss in a perfect croissant shell. The plain croissants (and chocolate...and almond) are all also fantastic - some of the best in the city. There is a Japanese flavor to many items, as the place is run by Japanese owners. They have real Japanese sweets made fresh up the block as well as several items that incorporate green tea (matcha) and red bean paste (adzuki/an). The tiny macaroons are cute and tasty, if a bit pricey. Other must-haves include the wine-soaked apple or fruit tarts and the pecan sticky buns. If you can stay or bring your treats home, they really benefit from being heated up in an oven or microwave. Excellent coffee and a nice selection of juices. The biscotti are good, too. The cookies are ok, but homemade usually trumps bakery cookies. Even the sandwiches are great. Our favorite is the turkey/goat cheese on a croissant. It's great chilled, room temp or heated up. I just checked this place out for lunch noting they advertised sandwiches on their website. By the time my friends and I arrived at 12:30, they only had 2 sandwiches left. We took the 2 BLAAT's left. That is bacon, lettuce, avocado, arugula, and tomato. Let me tell you the contents: 2 tiny pieces of bacon, why do you need both lettuce and arugula anyway?, a single slice of avocado, and 2 small slices of tomato (less than 2" diameter). We were both sorely dissapointed. The raspberry french macaron did not particularly make a strong counterpoint. My friend found her red plum croissant to be slightly higher than average. FFs is getting an additional star because of the cute coffee shop atmosphere, reasonably friendly service, and a clean bathroom. I will go back if I am in that immediate location and want coffee and/or a nice place to work on my laptop, but not food. read more

I biked here this morning for a croissant and some study time. This place has plenty of tables and good lighting, free wifi, and a nice atmosphere for doing work. I snagged a window seat facing the street, so I had lots of natural light, which was nice. The people at the counter were very nice, and the guy who helped me with the pastries recommended the twice-baked chocolate almond croissant, which is what I got. It was a pretty good croissant, with a crispy shell and a soft interior, but it wasn't super flaky, and the almond filling was a little mushy and not super flavorful. Also, it was kind of a weird lumpy shape, not what I typically associate with a croissant. Overall it was pretty sweet and delicious, but not the best I've had. However, the prices are reasonable, and they have a good selection of things, so I will probably return, as it was a great study spot and not too far from my house. read more

After a friend introduced me to Fresh Flours in Ballard a few weeks back, I've wanted to try this one and I'm glad I finally did. Similar menu, same great coffee, and fantastic bakery items just like Ballard, but with more space, more sun, and it never feels as packed. The drip coffee is wonderful, and any of the pastries will work well, but this time I went for the goat cheese and tomato croissant, which was absolutely delectable.
