This is my go-to coffee shop. I find all of the barista's to be amazing human beings and they welcome people with dogs as long as you don't hang out too long with them! I'm in there, probably four times a week maybe more and I am one of those weirdos who does not have a regular order, I get what I'm in the mood for and I have never once been disappointed by my treatment here or by the coffee. My only quibble is that they don't have gluten-free pastries often enough! That said, the quiche is gluten-free and delicious! They've just changed owners, which normally would be a little bit nerve-racking for a regular customer, but the new owner is delightful and the staff have all been there long enough that there have been no interruptions in anything. They have cute gifts and stuff too! And they support local artists! I highly recommend Lulu to everybody!!!! read more

This is a small and cozy little spot. It was nice for reading or working for a bit, though it closes in the early afternoon. The baristas were nice and I liked the unique drink I had from the seasonal menu. It was a cocoa pumpkin spice latte and was very tasty. I also grabbed a cute sloth sticker and a dill scone. They have Macrina bakery which is nice. I'd definitely come back if I was in the area while they were open! read more

Some of the best coffee I've had! This is a small coffee shop that was recommended to us while we were in Seattle. There's a few tables inside the shop and has a very warm/inviting energy. The barista was very friendly and efficient with making our drinks. The coffee itself was sooo flavorful! We finished our drinks so quick because it was just that good. Although we didn't get nah of the food items they also looked very tasty. This is definitely a place I would recommend others to check out. We came over here to go to 65th Street Cafe but they were closed due to emergency. My twin four year olds had to go to the bathroom so we popped in and they graciously tried to help us find a full breakfast place and let us use the restroom. We did end up getting an apple turnover to hold the kids off until we could walk someplace else, and I ordered a cold brew. My wife and I stopped by Tuesday morning and we were excited to find a cute little coffee shop. Very hip looking, lots of small souvies you can pick up with your coffee and pastry. I got a latte and my wife got a capp with a couple pastries. All decent. We would definitely come back if the service was remotely decent. But it wasn't. Don't get me wrong, it's not like they spit on you or are directly mean. But dude, acknowledge your customers. Maybe a half-assed "mornin" or "hey guys" would be fine. I'm not a shmoozy person who expects fine dining service from a quaint coffee shop. But my wife and I both looked at each other like "uhhh did we say something?" It's not a great morning cup o' coffee when you walk out thinking things like "is it cause we're Asian?" Or "did she just get into an argument with someone?" read more

This review is based solely on my customer service experience this morning. It was my first time checking out this neighborhood coffee shop, and as good as the coffee was, I most likely will not be returning. I walked in to order an iced vanilla latte. The barista took my order, and then I went over to the pick up area to wait for my drink. As I walked to the pick up area, two guys were up to order their drinks, the barista kindly gave them a heads up that a large mobile order just came through and there was going to be a bit of a wait. They stated they didn't mind and ordered two iced cold brews instead. They quickly got their drinks and left. Instead, guess who had to wait for that large mobile order to be prepared? This girl. I honestly would not have minded waiting had the barista kindly gave me the same courtesy she did the other two gentlemen. However, since that did not occur, what would have been the considerate thing to do would have been to just prepare my small order then proceed to work on the mobile order. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth and reminded me to stick to other closer coffee shops where I feel welcome and treated with consideration as a customer. I ordered a vanilla macchiato from Cafe Lulu because I had no idea what I wanted to drink. I am not a coffee drinker, but I knew I needed caffeine bc I was very sleep-deprived. The barista at Cafe Lulu took the time to explain to me the two different types of macchiatos--one is bitter and one is sweet. She walked me through how each type is made, and gave me as much information as she could to help me make an informed decision. She was really understanding and didn't make me feel bad at all for being absolutely clueless about coffee. Now. This vanilla macchiato was the BEST drink I've had in my life, okay?? Like, I literally forgot all of my hanger and told my husband how much I loved him after just ONE SIP. He was confused but wanted to try some of this magical drink as well, and BOY HE SAID HE LOVED ME TOO. I mean, we always tell each other we love the other person, but like, this wasn't a romantic moment. We were just sitting in our car before a walk at Greenlake. Anyway. This drink was so incredibly delicious. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. And it helped me survive my walk afterwards. The Quick Bite: friendly, popular neighborhood cafe. Decent but unremarkable coffee (Vita, Torriani flavors), limited but mostly tasty food offerings. The Deets: After scanning the mostly stellar reviews, I do as I always do and find the bad ones, and see if they offer insight into what to expect, and these certainly did. This is something I encourage all my fellow Yelpers to do, and here's why: you can tell a lot about a place by how they respond to criticism. In this case, every complaint was answered proactively by the owner! Responsive, responsible ownership means that even if you have a bad experience, attention will be paid and you'll probably be able to go back and have a better experience next time. That's Yelp functioning as it should, used properly; improving the consumer experience and helping businesses keep customers and make money. Friday morning, this little cafe is hoppin'! Locals and regulars, greeted by name. Kids begging for their favorite treats, local retirees talking politics. I get a Mexican mocha and a house-made bagel with egg, tomato, and capers. The counter service, historically this place's Achilles' heel, is soft-spoken, efficient and friendly. At the bar, the barista is smiling, chatty and upbeat. Excellent! That's the extra star. Product-wise, it's just ok. Their bagels, although fresh, taste of the city water they were boiled in too keenly. A bit of malt in the water might help (I used to be a baker). The texture is wonderful, though! The microwaved eggs are fluffy (scrambled eggs are one of the few things a microwave does arguably better than stovetop). The tomato was pithy and flavorless, but the capers, tangy and generously applied, saved the day. Lox and arugula, and maybe an herb aoli, would be welcome additions to the menu! The barista, (I was one of those too, for years) although a customer service gem, might need a refresher on technique. Vita is a decent product, pretty forgiving and consistent, but you have to treat it right. The barista was pre-grinding instead of grinding to order, which is a no-no. At manufacture my shots were under-extracted, meaning the grind was too coarse and/or tamp was too light, causing the shots to be watery and exit the portafilters too quickly. The pour was like 10 seconds (it should be 18 to 22, for most machines). The flavoring in my Mexican mocha was good, but the non-fat milk, which I did not order, made it even more watery-tasting. There was little foam and no art, and no offer of whipped cream. Great neighborhood gathering spot! Just needs some thoughtful additions and training to really shine! read more

I finally checked out Café Lulu this afternoon and find out that it's been open for about 18 years (since 1997). Walked or drove past it a gazillion times - guess good things truly happen to those who wait! I indulged in a delicious 16 ounce dark chocolate mocha and resisted not nibbling on any of the trio of Cowboy Cookies I got to go. Yes, truly a well crafted mocha. Good balance, not cloying, perfect temperature! Even the 20 ounce Mexican mocha prepaid for the hubby was deemed 'sweet, subtle, and nice balance of cinnamon'. This itty-bitty neighborhood café is very well established with a stream of regulars that popped in to say hello and chat briefly with Karen (presumably the owner) while I sat a table for about an hour. I even found a $5 bill on the floor, handed it to her and she knew exactly who it belonged to (a preschool teacher who stopped in for a chat and a snack) Impressive! There's also a sizable collection of travel books to thumb through (and even check out - see the clipboard by the entrance), even one amusing photo album documenting a Café Lulu coffee mug's travels with its owner. Rotating art with the current installment of watercolors. Food & bev-wise, there's coffee, tea, juices, assorted baked goods, and looks like tasty breakfast items like bagel sandwiches, oatmeal, granola, and toast of the day. Okay 3 1/2 hours later, the Cowboy Cookies were devoured by a trio of cookie monsters. Substantial with chocolate chips, oatmeal, walnuts, and a hint of cinnamon. I can't figure this place out. The customer service is sometimes fine - never great - and sometimes not so great - like barely acknowledge your existence. The coffee is usually fine - though the drip coffee is usually terrible. Too many great coffee shops with good customer service nearby to settle for this. Last straw was my last visit where I entered at 8:15 and didn't leave until 8:40 though there was one customer in front of me and none behind me. I think they were just making drinks for app orders? After 20 min the barista says to the cashier regarding my drink "what was this one again?" After standing there for 20 min! I ended up being super late taking my child to school and threw off my morning. I realized I only ever stopped there because there was parking out front but think I'll settle for not as great parking and go elsewhere from now on. read more

I live across from cafe Lulu, and always love their iced or hot Americanos as they use cafe vita. Their squash breads are really tasty too. Tracy the new owner is super sweet and the cafe has a really cozy atmosphere and decor. We love their drip coffee and I have bought bags of cafe vita when in a household bean deficit. FYI; they close at 2pm - so be mindful of the time before heading over. I was lucky enough to catch them 30 mins before closing. It's a cute little cafe that has the cute window overlooking the street and perfect for people watching as they walk by. There is only indoor seating - observation from when I visited (Feb '17) - summer time may be different. I absolutely love the ambiance - gives off a Hawaiian-wanderlust vibe. The tables have Hawaiian hula girls on them - pretty different. You order at the register and have a seat and they take your order to you. I ordered the 12 oz. White Mocha. It came with a little latte art - which I always appreciate :) Gives it the right amount of fanciness to your everyday coffee. OMG - THE BEST WHITE MOCHA I'VE HAD. Hands down. I even had to tell the woman behind the counter because it really did blow the rest out of the White Mochas I've had out of the water. She told me to try the Peppermint & Lavender White Mochas - So I definitely will be back to give those a try. So happy I found this little gem! read more

I don't think I'll ever go out of my way to go here again, but it was good and I'd be willing to come back if I'm in the area. It was busy, so it was a bit loud in there. I liked the space, though, and those travel books set up on the bar. The wheat bagel was pretty good and fresh. The mocha was quite pleasing. I can't think of anything bad about the place, but I just wasn't sucked into it or amazed by anything. Maybe if I had been walking by and stumbled upon it when it was quiet or if there was someone playing live music just outside. Maybe then I would have fallen in love. A cute little cafe on the corner of Latona and 64th. Nothing particular stands out to me to make it a must-try place, but their coffee is decent, their pastries are tasty, and they offer some snacks to nibble on should you choose to stay a bit and use their free wifi (hard boiled eggs, packaged sandwiches, yogurt, typical cafe fare). The cafe itself seems to have an emphasis on travel: they have maps, atlases, and travel books all over for you to peruse. Service was alright... our barista (I think she might be the owner?) was friendly, but somewhat aloof. I had no problem with this since I just wanted to read, but it did feel like there was a sort of disconnect in terms of customer service. I'd only come back if I happened to be in the neighbourhood, but there are so many cafes around Greenlake/Roosevelt that this one doesn't really make it to the top of my list. read more

(Green Lake) I was biking at "Green Lake Park" in the morning and found it on Yelp without knowing it was right by "Latona Pub" - my favorite Seattle hangout place with good foods and beers!!!! This place is tiny and got a cozy atmosphere. No outside seating. The staff were friendly. The plugs for charging your phone / laptop are available - it's always helpful! Free Wi-Fi. Street parking. - Gluttony Expedition - Tasty egg bagel: Egg got no taste. Meh. I like the varieties of bagels but this isn't good. Squash harvest bread : It tasted like a pumpkin bread. Very light and good! Cappuccino with soy milk: this espresso wasn't so strong - I'm very sensitive to caffeine and rarely take it anymore. I like it. I don't like this milk foam, which is critical for my cappuccino and was a poor quality. But I like the taste overall. Apple wassil : it's like an apple cider, though I don't like an apple cider nor cinnamon. This got apple and a hint of cinnamon flavor. Nice sweetness and flavor. I like it :) - Conqueror's Deduction - It's overrated maybe??? They're listed as a breakfast place on iphone app, but they got bagels and some pastries only. It might be good to grab coffee and a quick bite, but not enough for breakfast. I see they got a quality in general. But I'm not buying about bagels... read more

Situated a short walk from the actual lake of Green Lake, Cafe Lulu has everything I want in a breakfast spot: -Delicious tea, including chai, & a good green tea as well -Bagels (umm...yum! all sorts of spreads, btw--including egg sandwiches with capers and pesto if you want!) -Granola (served with yogurt, milk, or soy) -Baked goods -Friendly service -Local -Wi-Fi -Sells great children's music Okay...so that last one isn't something I always look for in a breakfast spot, but it is a great plus of Lulu. The owner's brother, Doug Crandal, has a CD for kids that is all about eating and living healthfully. It's called Radically Free and I don't have kids, but I have certainly passed it on to those who do. Okay, now back to the deliciousness...Lulu is the answer to your breakfast problems. Lulu is where you want to be in the morning. Believe me. I really want to like this cafe as it's so cute and near my home. I stopped going here years ago as the customer service was just so unwelcoming. I think it's the tone set by the owner. They are selectively clicky and really nice to some people and just ignore most of their patrons. But, I decided to give them another try as they did some remodeling and it's really cute. I have to say, while the customer service was fine, the coffee was bad. Probably the worst non-fat latte I have ever had. Like, I don't think anyone showed the barista how to work the machine, bad. And the taste was terrible, like rancid. So sad. read more

I completely judge a coffee place on how good their drip or dirty chais are (my go-tos). It's hard to find a cafe with a consistently great drip or dirty chai BUT lulus definitely meets the standard. I ordered the dirty chai and it is the best I have had in a long while. Also, they have so many options and offer beer and wine as well - even by the bottle! What a cute idea it would be to come with some friends and buy a couple bottles to try and share! There are plenty food options as well for the health conscious but they serve my weakness...luck charms! Shop is very small and quaint and extremely quiet so if you're one who doesn't really enjoy the white noise of several quiet conversations, then this is the place for you.
