While the ambiance is cozy and I appreciate that they display work from local artists, I have had multiple lattes here where the milk was steamed too much and it made the drink taste burnt. Went here twice and would return next time I'm in town! Street parking was relatively easy to find but I believe some areas had 2 hour parking limit. Fun to see photos and art throughout the space! Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was mostly friendly and knowledgeable of the offerings. I got the "blendy" which I thought would have a smooth texture but it's more like crushed ice, milk and coffee. The ice chunks were mostly too big and chunky to fit through the straw until they melted which watered down the drink. The vegan chocolate berry muffin was sooooo good! Loved that it wasn't overly sweet. I didn't noticed if the taste was "vegan." I'm not vegan but it was super delicious and I would definitely get it again. This place was adorable! From the people to the location to the service to the drinks to the price- it was an all-around win for me! My sister and I are new to Seattle and just signed a place in Greenlake, so we were looking for a spot that wasn't too far from where we were living. We found this place on a quick search and headed over for a day of productivity. This spot was located right across from a senior center, and though there were a decent amount of young folks walking in, we noticed a handful of what seemed like elderly regulars coming into the café. The barista was super kind and talkative with her customers, and seemed to have people's regular orders! We got an almond milk hot chocolate and an oat milk chai latte, both of which were delicious and great big sizes for the price! Also of note is that this place is dog friendly and even has a jar of dog treats at the entrance for people to give their dogs! We got to pet so many puppers while we were working all day. The ambience is warm and friendly with yellow accents and cute art in the bathroom, and the barista made sure to stop us on the way out to ask our names, hear about our recent move here, and make us feel super comfortable! For the ambiance, the taste, the environment, and the friendly staff, we will absolutely be back! read more

If you are looking for a good local coffee spot Monkey Grind is the spot to go. Visiting on a trip here and I am pleasantly surprised with how good the drinks and food are. It was walking distance from our place in Greenwood and the service was lovely. I got a a vanilla oat milk latte and it was very tasty with a nice layer of foam, my boyfriend was recommended the Mexican mocha which had cayenne pepper and had a remarkable kick to it that he enjoyed! Good coffee, solid food offerings, just service was a little slow for such a small place. The baristas were super polite and welcoming; which made waiting definitely more bearable. If you have even 2 people waiting for beverages, it takes up a lot of space. They do have a fun open patio with a large picture window that opens into the cafe space. The barista (man with scruffy face) this morning was rude to me. At first, I didn't really think much of it. But as I sat and had my coffee with my friend, I noticed how nice he was to other customers. Was this a microaggression because of my race (or some other identity)? Possibly, but it's always hard to know for certain. But encountering these for a lifetime, anyone from a marginalized group know how it goes beyond simple rudeness. Ultimately, the impact was that I felt unwelcomed and bummed out about it. I hate that I even have to spend energy on this and write about it here. I recommend going to Diva espresso on 80th & Greenwood nearby. They're nicer there & coffees are great and they have a good selection of pastries (including a decent vegan option). They are LGBTQ+ friendly too. It's too bad, I would have given this place 5 stars otherwise. For a coffee shop, and for somebody who typically doesn't drink any coffee I'm giving them five stars for the following: The atmosphere was nice, simple, open, lit, and was good for someone who works in the area. The food seemed simple, clean, and uncomplicated. I liked that they don't feel "generic" or like they want to compete with other shops. What I found most endearing was that they hug nearly 90% of their customers, know them by name, and are genuinely friendly. I think that I would almost take a staroff for lack of good parking nearby, and while it's not a make or break, I think they could improve on table room and add more seating (somehow) I know it's tight. I think that they are doing good things here. They have a nice community board, they have a exceptionally clean bathroom, and the food/drinks are satisfactory/good (from what I tried.) I probably am on the cheap side, but I wish that the portions were bigger for the price. Congrats to the staff here. You impressed me. read more

I just... *sigh*... don't really know how to articulate my love for this place, so here's a list of top 4 things I love about it: 1) Everyone that works there is SO nice!! Every time I go in it feels like I'm just shootin' the s**t with a buddy. I'm not great at ordering because I change my mind a lot and jumble my words, but they're always so patient with me. No sign of the "I'm cooler than you" rude barista energy here!! 2) The artwork. It's always unique, interesting and fun to look at, and LOCAL. I've gifted stickers made by a local artist to my friends and they loved them, albeit like "...why did you get me a sticker of a chunky dude painted like Winnie the Pooh... whatever, it's dope!" 3) Donuts on Sundays. Nom nom nom. 4) They have apple juice!! Seems odd but I always look forward to getting a little bottle of it every time I go there. I've been living at my spot in Greenwood for almost 3 years and I've always wanted to try this spot. I'm sure glad I did! It is a female-owned small business with amazing coffee, cute ambiance, and yummy food options. They are open 7 days a week so it's great to stop by or as an every day spot. We got there late so there weren't many pastries left, but the owner told us she generally keeps things pretty stocked. The location is dog friendly so you can bring your furry friend inside with you while you order. There's a small table and chairs for outdoor seating. I ordered one of their smoothies and it tasted delicious. Not too sweet and all blended fresh! My boyfriend got a latte which was also perfect. The service was beyond phenomenal. We can't wait to come back on a Saturday and get sone coffee and sone treats. read more

Since moving to the Greenwood area, Monkey Grind has been that place for me. Time after time I stop in for excellent coffee and delightful food offerings and wonderful conversation with the baristas, and I ALWAYS leave happy, full, and fulfilled. If you're in the area, this little basement coffee shop is more than worth a stop. Usual order: 16 oz Americano or 12 oz Cappucino, this place makes SERIOUSLY tasty espresso, and a sesame bagel.
