Fresh Bowl took over the Pho King space on Parmer. The bun bo hue (bbh) and pho are pretty good. BBH has the huyet (pork blood cubes) which you can't find in bbh at some other places in Austin. The soup is very lemongrassy, which I prefer. BBH is not my favorite noodle soup out of all the Vietnamese noodle soup. I'd ordered it occasionally if there's huyet in it. I didn't order pho, my husband did and I tasted the broth, very similar to Pho Phong Luu's pho broth if you're looking for an alternative or whe PPL is closed. The food here is good. I'm super sad to leave this review because my family likes the food here and it's close to where we live. We've been coming for years. The service is a bunch of kids so there's often mistakes but we don't care because they're so nice. The reason I'm leaving this review is because my husband and I were dining and when he came back from the bathroom he said we're not going to eat here again. I said why! He said because "I just watched someone from the kitchen use the bathroom and immediately go back to the kitchen." I asked him, "if I say something to the owner/manager, will you please excuse it" because I wanted to keep coming here. I went up to the counter to let her know discreetly and then we started to walk away. I'm really disappointed that the result was she went behind the curtain into the kitchen and started speaking poorly of me. I said it as kindly as anyone could have, simply so she knew to inform her staff so it doesn't happen again or others don't see that. I went in there again recently to eat by myself and chuckled at all the order mistakes the table next to me was experiencing; but they weren't too grumpy because again, the staff was so nice about it. The owner/manager came by smiling to greet tables and I smiled to her- as soon as she saw me her face dropped and she was cold. It makes me feel terrible and I no longer want to eat here. When I was checking out with her at the register, she said bye to the people behind me and completely ignored me. I'm not a child, I am a professional and I feel ridiculous leaving this review. Yet, I operate on the understanding of how people make you feel, just like everyone else. Having been a part of the hospitality industry for decades, I think poorly trained staff is an area for improvement but rude ownership has deeper consequences. It doesn't make me feel good eating while I sense the negativity. My guess is because her staff was poorly trained and had made mistakes with our food before, she assumes I am a trouble customer. And when I did my best to be a continued good patron to her business to let her know about the disgusting lack of handwashing politely, it furthered her judgment of me. Either way, yelp is not made for psychoanalyzing business owners but really to let you know what my experience has been like here. Combo Rice with Pork: The food served here Southern Vietnamese style. In Southern Vietnam, you usually eat a mixed bowl by mixing everything together including the fish sauce. I like to keep the dipping sauce separate, so there isn't a pool of the sauce at the bottom (but that's just me). This dish contained shrimp, traditional Vietnamese caramelized pork, Cơm tấm, pork loaf, egg, and pork skin! This dish hit the mark on all levels and truly embodied Southern Vietnam. Gỏi cuốn (Spring Rolls; Meat + Shrimp) With much of local Vietnamese cuisine being unsparingly fried, grilled and boiled, you may find yourself occasionally craving something a little fresher. Look no further than gỏi cuốn, also known as "summer rolls". These fresh spring rolls are typically packed with crispy salad, prawns and pork and served with a sweet-and-spicy dip topped with peanuts. This dish had peanut sauce on the side. I love their Hu Tieu Go noodles. Good but too expensive for bowl of noodles. I understand the economy inflation everything go up but is too much. Some other noodles place highest is $16. Place is nice and clean. Some waiters and waitresses are friendly and others are not too friendly. I used to go eat at Fresh bowl every other week for 3 years but i stopped because they jacked up the price from $16 to $20. This is a pretty solid pho place. So far, I wouldn't recommend other items on the menu... I've ordered the steak pho. I'd give the pho a 4 out of 5. I DO NOT recommend the vermicelli bowls. The chicken was bland and had a weird taste and texture. I'd give it 1 out of 5 stars. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. There have been a couple of instances where the staff tried to remove our food when we went up from to pay and get to go containers. If you're looking for a pho place up north, fresh bowl is your place!! I recommend the pho with the regular noodles instead of their fresh noodles. The pho is a 4/5 for me. I wish it came out a bit more piping hot, but still delicious! Same thing with the egg rolls. Good filling but came out lukewarm but still crispy! I love their ApChao (thick crispy pan fried noodles). This place has my favorite Vermicelli Bowl in Austin. Every time I come here, I order it with tofu. It's soooo good. The tofu is perfectly flavored and the peanut sauce is good enough to drink. This place have been renovated with new seat booths, tables, and chairs. Fresh paint of modern color for exterior and interior. This was my first time coming to this place since the previous owner of Pho King. There is many TV screens everywhere and many young staff. You are greeted upon arrival and leaving. Service seems great. We did a pick up to go order of bún bò Huế (spicy beef soup), veggie and tofu fried rice, 3 orders of Tofu spring rolls, Thai tea, and Butterfly Pea limeade. The Bun Bo Hue was pretty tasty and was packed very well. It had all the traditional pork blood and meats. If you want to add pork feet there is an additional cost which I opted out of. Soup was spicy and broth was good but due to the MSG added to the broth I had a horrible headache after and my mouth was super dry (common side effects of MSG for me and why I do not consume MSG.). I think the soup was on point for those that can consume MSG. The veggie and tofu fried rice was beautifully seasoned (but also had MSG), and had a smoked taste. There was plenty of veggies and tofu and good serving. It is very unfortunate when consuming the bok choy which was in the veggie and tofu fried rice, we discovered the bok choy was NOT properly washed and there was a filth of dirt mud between the boy choy base stems. I was deeply disturb and grossed out. The tofu spring rolls were just lettuce, noodles, and tofu. The peanut hoisin sauce was good but the spring rolls were lacking texture and a crunch. I think with cucumbers in the spring rolls would have helped the dish. The spring rolls were boring. Tofu was not properly seasoned with salt. The Thai tea was very watered down. The Butterfly Pea limeade tasted exactly like Sprite. I did not taste any Butterfly Pea. I honestly think purple food coloring was just added to a sprite. :/ First time visiting this place since the new owner and management. I simply am sad to report I can't recommend this place and will not return due to the dirty muddy bok choy that was served. I really wanted this place to be my go to Viet food but I simply can't consume improper handling of food and the use of MSG. read more

One of my favorite local north Austin Vietnamese places to eat. Their Bun Bo Hue is unmatched I get this almost every time I come. The flavors are amazing and have quality ingredients. Don't forget to ask for a side of pickle onions and chili paste to add, you won't regret it! I add hoisin and sriracha to my pickle onions to add even more flavor to the soup. The marinade is so flavorful, making every bite of this sandwich a delight to eat. I never came to this place when it was Pho King, but after new ownership and a new name, I have been several times! If you're looking for a viet restaurant with an expansive menu, this isn't it. But what they do specialize in--a few noodle soup dishes--is great. I love that they make their own rice noodles for pho. That's pretty hard to find. A coworker told me he thought the homemade noodles has structural issues, but when I had it, it held its shape and was al dente. The homemade noodles are the thicker kind, so if you prefer the thin ones, don't get these. The pho broth is fragrant and flavorful, although I prefer mine to be a bit more spice forward (more cinnamon, anise, etc.). To me, their bun bo hue is better than the pho. I was surprised the pork trotter was in a slice, instead of the actual pig's foot -- but they said it's because it's for ease of eating and not to scare some customers. ha! While here, don't sleep on the banh mis! They are packed and the bread is soft on the inside and crispy outside. Perfect! The parking lot can get a little dicey during the lunch hour. One of my pet peeves is when my pho broth isn't boiling hot. I got the bbh and thought it was warm at best. Their fresh noodle is good but I thought was a bit too soft (lacked texture) and weirdly salty. The bbh broth was great and had just the right level of funk. Love the herbs they give and the abundance of protein/different types of meat. One of the only bbh that comes with protein. The pig Trotter is extra but fantastic. They ask me to pay and that there will be a 15-20 mins wait until it's ready. I waited 25 mins in my car before coming back inside for the food but it still wasn't ready. I waited another 15 mins until they handed me a bag. Now, I ordered their crawfish based on pictures from their Instagram. The picture had potato, corn, sausage. I took a screenshot. I ordered 6 lbs of crawfish. Im expecting a few bit of everything. I got 1 corn, HALF of a potato, and NO SAUSAGE. I'm so glad ownership changed and the menu changed with Fresh Bowl. The team is still figuring out their rhythm but I had no issues with service. The team was quick and fast. Food wise Fresh Bowl was delicious. I ordered the egg rolls and a large pho. The egg rolls were solid. The filling was delicious. I do think they were a bit over fried based off color and the chewiness of the shell. For $5 and you get 3 egg rolls that is an amazing deal. Most places are $5 for 2. The pho was fantastic. The broth was so fragrant and delicious on its own. I did wish there was a bit more meat. I liked that they give you two options for noodles: regular traditional rice noodles or a longer thicker fresh noodle (as I was described). Again the broth was to die for. Heads up on getting there. To enter Fresh Bowl you have to turn in from Parmer and cars are speeding through. The turn in lane came be chaotic as you turn in so be careful as you drive in. I will definitely be back! read more

Surprisingly a good Vietnamese restaurant in Austin. Hopped off my flight and was craving Vietnamese food, so I found this place nearby where we were staying. Ambiance inside definitely looks more like a crawfish restaurant than a regular Vietnamese restaurant. Coming inside, there was a strong smell of cleaning supplies I think they used to wipe down the tables after customers who eat crawfish leave. I was craving soup so I got bun Bo hue and my boyfriend got pho dac biet. The portion I got for the bun ho hue was huge! I really liked how hot my soup throughout the whole meal. My boyfriend's pho was super hot (temp wise) too. He was a little upset that the sriracha wasn't the real one, but he still finished his bowl regardless. He just felt tricked haha. This place is now on my list of "must eat here again." Wow!! First off, the staff is eager to serve you as soon as you enter, and are very accommodating. They greet you and direct you to your seats with care. Lots of seating options too, especially for large parties. They appear to love what they do, and you get the sense that they definitely have something good to offer. Our server was super friendly and professional, and good at getting us everything we needed. If there was a delay, he explained the reason and still continued to provide excellent service. The food!! Flavorful! Fresh! And very satisfying! Probably one of the best places for Pho that we've had in a very long time. Dining here reminded us of our favorite Vietnamese restaurant that we used to go to when we lived in NYC. When we think about eating Vietnamese again, there's a sense of relief in knowing that we don't have to find another spot. Since I went with family and friends, I wanted to give them my undivided attention. Fresh Bowl is one of my go-to's for pho (the other being Pho Phong Luu). Every now and then I like to switch it up. Where Fresh Bowl gets the edge is the wider variety in its menu. The classic pho is solid here but I usually gravitate to the Beef Stew/Bò Kho. I've also had the Pan-fried Pho Noodles/Phở Áp Chảo and found it quite tasty but it was a bit salty where I had a hard time finishing the whole thing but it would probably be a good shared plate if for some reason you come here to eat family style.
