Blown away by French Alpine Bistro. Absolutely stunning charm - intimate, dark, and very European feeling. The staff was so accommodating and welcoming even when we didn't have reservations. For food, we got the fondue for the table with potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower, apples, schnitzel, and crusty bread. The cocktail we got was called the Pink Panther and it was not only beautiful, but also delicious. It was such a fun dinner experience. The entrees looked amazing and the menu was vast. My wife took me here because we love the decor and the "feel" of the restaurant. The menu also looked really good. Since we were only stopping by for a drink and a quick bite we sat at the bar. BIG MISTAKE. The bar looks in on the kitchen and it was incredibly messy. Not, "busy night and organized chaos" messy but scraps of food and wrappers everywhere on the floor messy. To their credit someone was actively cleaning but at one point she was cleaning next to the prep table and pulled out an obviously old container with mystery sauce in it and showed it to the cooks as if to say "whoa, how long was this back here!?!?" Loved!! I love France, French Food and the French language -- making this a great evening here! We sat outside on the corner around beautiful flowers. I walked downstairs and definitely loved the vibe there as well, but we wanted to sit and have the view of the Aspen mountains as the sun went down! As a local, I sometimes forget about French Alpine Bistro simply because it's always in such high demand, but a recent lunch reminded me why it remains one of Aspen's most special dining experiences. The setting is incredibly charming and always makes an impression on guests, but what truly stood out this time was how exceptional everything else was as well. The food, wine, and service were all outstanding. The Sancerre was crisp and refreshing, the chèvre chaud salad was perfectly balanced, and the escargot and lamb lollipops were absolutely delicious. The cheese fondue was spectacular -- rich, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for in a true French alpine bistro. Our server was warm, attentive, and professional, and the entire experience felt polished without ever feeling formal. I asked if I can make a res that's further than 30 days in advance. As I've dined enough Michelin star restaurants in nyc to know that sometimes if you directly email the restaurant that they will take your reservation or with a min spend/deposit. The min spend is completely understandable however they want to guarantee a $150 pp. I have 2 kids...how can they even eat that much food? This is not even a Michelin restaurant. Yet, they couldn't budge and perhaps charge a diff price for the entire party instead? $200? $300? No. Their response was sorry wait till 30 days when the online res opens. I'm only booking for March so not that far away. I'm already disappointed with the non lenient service. What will the actual service be like when I'm there? My money must not be good enough. And from reading previous reviews, they have no qualms to tell you to leave. read more

Absolutely unacceptable experience. We ordered a fondue and were given a small basket of bread, which of course ran out almost immediately. We asked for more bread three times and ended up waiting over 34 minutes. The bread never arrived. While waiting, the fondue stayed on the heat and burned badly, sticking to the pot and becoming almost impossible to eat. When we finally stopped waiting and asked what we should do since more than half of the fondue was ruined, the manager offered a discount and said the bread should be coming. At that point, I just asked for the check. Her response was shocking: we could either wait longer because the kitchen is small or leave. That level of disregard for customers is unbelievable. Waiting over half an hour for something as basic as bread and it never even shows up while your meal is literally being destroyed at the table is absurd. Extremely frustrating and disappointing. Now THIS was the Aspen dining experience that I've been anticipating! The place itself is AMAZING...so lush in its French and rustic chic decor-ambiance, with the perfect French music overhead. Pictures just didn't do justice to the overall vibe you get here...totally Aspen! Hate to use the word again, but their menu was also amazing...so many tantalizing choices, I had a hard time choosing. However, I finally decided to try one of their crepes (think it's what they're famous for?)...Nirvana, which was this Thai-influenced savory crepe. From its exquisite presentation to taste, that Nirvana crepe was truly heavenly. I also had to try one of their crepe desserts as well...and at the recommendation of the Manager (?), I decided to go for their "Midnight in Paris", which was this crepe w/ vanilla creme brulee custard and crispy caramel. Yummm!! I also tried their cocktail, Pink Panther...and it was quite good. Somehow I expected a bit more from this though. Service was top notch. From the moment you enter the door, you definitely get the sense that you're at a 5-star restaurant. These 3 items for lunch totaled 95 bucks (including tip)...and I wasn't even mad lol. Unlike some other Aspen restaurants I've been to, I felt that the foods, service and the ambiance actually merited the lofty pricing here. Ordered 3 appetizers 3 cocktails 3 entrees 1 bottle of wine 2 desserts. At the end of the meal our waiter informed that our table was $75 short of the minimum for that table. Wtf. We were not made aware of this when reservations made or at any other time. Food was average. My daughter ordered chicken fricassee. It was a single baked chicken wing on a bed of simple mashed potatoes with brown gravy. Ridiculous. The menu had pictures of the entrees. I orde the scallops. Picture showed 6 U10 scallops. My order had 3. One of the desserts they brought was not what we ordered. Blah blah. Never again. Over $750.00 for 3. Stupid. read more

Keep in mind the small space does get quite chilly when the front door is being opened and closed often. Where do I start...I love this place so much. First, the cozy interior is the best place to be on a cold night. It is dim and quaint and magical. Second, the service is enthusiastic and charming all the way around. Finally, the food was exquisite. We tried the winter salad and French onion soup to start and both were wonderful. For our main courses we had the Beef Bourguignon and Lamb Cannelloni, which were both comforting and refined. Finally, the star of the show was the Midnight in Paris crepe, a magical marriage of a classic French crepe with crème brulee. We added a scoop of vanilla. Pure bliss. A small little restaurant below ground that is decorated immaculately to make you feel right at home. The staff are just incredible. They are fast, friendly and really help each other check on patrons to make sure you are taken care of. Finally the food, can i get a hallelujah!!! Everything was incredibly fresh, hand made and absolutely delicious. The Gazpacho was perfect for a warm summer day and you could really savor the flavors. The Boeuf Bourguignon was so tender it just melted in your mouth and the sauce was the best I've had. Now the crepe I've mentioned, it is my new favorite dessert ever and was executed flawlessly. We reserved a table for 13 people for a wedding celebration. We had the main table in the center of the restaurant. Everyone loved the decor and ambiance. The staff throughout the night were so friendly and attentive. Our server was super friendly and had great recommendations from the menu all night. For appetizers we ordered the French onion soup, tartare, and raclette. Everything was delicious and loved by the table. My personal favorite was the French onion soup. It was so flavorful and packed with cheese. For entrees I ordered the scallops, my husband got the schnitzel, and others ordered the gnocchi, coq au vin, mussels, filet, sea bass, and salad. Again, everything was SO good. The scallops were cooked perfectly- great crust and the saffron sauce was heavenly. My husband enjoyed his schnitzel and everyone else was raving about their food. Some other highlights were the gnocchi which was so rich and flavorful and the coq au vin. The chicken was fall off the bone, the potatoes were so good, and the red wine sauce was top notch. The wine list is extensive and the cocktails were also very good. Overall, our party enjoyed dinner and we are all dying to go back! Tbh, this place would have gotten more stars out of me, but in spite of having a reservation, they placed the five of us at a four top and the one guy in our party was trying to be a gentleman so he took the seat right next to the wall. He couldn't move because he was afraid that the wall decor would drop onto the table if he budged. We had to take the decorative pillows, our coats, shopping bags, etc and shove them all to under our feet, which was crazy and upsetting. Even though our gentleman friend was crowded in the corner, he tried to be a good sport because he loves the truffle gnocchi at this place so much, that 4 of the 5 of us ordered it, and he was right. He called the gnocchi truffly clouds in your mouth and yes, it was so smooth and creamy and delicious. Definitely one of the best bites of our week in Aspen. He also raved about the onion soup which was nice and hearty. Sis ordered the Salade Paysanne which had just the tastiest lardons in it and a delicious dressing. The Kobe burger was pretty much just a burger. I should know better than to order kobe that way, since the grilling cooks out all the fatty goodness. The sommelier found out that our friend was a wine connoisseur, so I think he tried to make up for him being shoved right into the wall by letting him try samples of a bunch of wines, which made him happy, but I thought wasn't enough to make up for the lack of comfort of all of us being shoehorned in to that tiny space. read more

I was not expecting a $130 filet which was served as two medallions instead of one steak. It was also over cooked for medium rare, very little red in it. I used open table app. Service was a little awkward in the beginning since it's such a tight space and they had to sit us outside at the "bar" to accommodate our early arrival. The decor is very interesting I believe it's a Victorian style. Very close and intimate seating. You will rub elbows with your neighbors. Only two options for beer either the local aspen brewery ipa or corona. My husband said the hazy ipa was pretty good had a fruity taste to it. Pink panther cocktail was refreshing and sweet with hints of floral. Steak tartare was standard but the crostini gave it great texture. Boeuf bourguignon was a little on the bland side if you are familiar with beef pot roast that's pretty much what you are ordering Apple cinnamon crepe was huge wasn't expecting that. That really filled us up. Fluffy and buttery crepe with a nice and warm apple cinnamon and cool vanilla bean ice cream to finish our meal. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for me was the French fries. It had an outer crunch layer to it kind of like double fried. It was very hot when it came out. The perfect combination you need for ideal French fries. Overall, Service from Federico was great even with how busy it was. French Alpine was a fantastic dining experience! My husband and I came for our honeymoon and enjoyed the escargot bisque, fondue for 2, and we split a wagyu burger. The escargot came already shelled and in the bisque. They were cooked well and not chewy at all. The fondue for two had an interesting taste. I enjoyed the fondue, but my husband was not very fond of it. It came with apples, bread, and pickles to dip in the pot. My favorite was the bread. The wagyu burger is the reason why we were only able to give our visit four stars. While we enjoyed the burger, the meat lacked flavor even though it had a garlic aïoli sauce on it. I also enjoyed an espresso martini and it was absolutely amazing! The service was great and the ambience was very interesting and cozy. Note: I wouldn't bring children/teenagers to this restaurant due to the pictures that are hung on the walls/particularly the bathroom.
