We got to Ajax right when they opened. We were seated promptly and our server brought us a high chair and booster seat for our kids. Our server was helpful in finding something that our kiddo with a dairy allergy could have. He had a burger with a sourdough bun! I had the double cheeseburger. My favorite part of the meal was the fries. You can tell they are freshly cut and fried! Delicious! The location and view from Ajax are unbeatable! They have umbrellas covering the entire outdoor seating area which is nice to have with the intense sun. After our lunch it was convenient to pop over to the gondola to take a ride up the mountain.

We visited Ajax Tavern on a sunny summer afternoon, fresh off the gondola and ready for a bite. The greeting staff welcomed us warmly and recommended the Smash Burger--hailed as the best in Aspen. My husband took their advice, and it didn't disappoint: juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. We started with the truffle parmesan fries, which were crisp and indulgent. I opted for the crab cakes--light, well-seasoned, and beautifully plated. To sip, we enjoyed Lite Cloud Paloma mocktails, refreshing and citrusy with a hint of mountain air. Tasty food, relaxed vibes, and a prime location make Ajax Tavern a must-stop after a gondola ride or summer stroll through Aspen.

My husband and I are staying very near the Ajax Tavern & my brother in law recommended it, so we gave it a try! We were greeted so nicely by the general manager- John, then led to our table and greeted by Katie- our wonderful server! She was very knowledgeable about their menu and helped us make our decisions! We sat outside- which overlooks the Aspen Gondola- so that was pretty cool and the mountains all around are just beautiful!! We ordered a bottle of French Rosé along with the caviar ... we like caviar, but by no means are we experts, but we were very pleased with the CAVIAR REGGIS OVA OSSETRA, served with a Carmelized onion dip and dill potato chips! Yumm!! I ordered the Maine lobster roll and my husband got the Ajax Wagyu Double cheeseburger. We could've upgraded to truffle fries, but we stuck with the regular fries and they were delicious. Both of our sandwiches were so good- very tasty and fresh. It's a beautiful setting for beautiful food. It was definitely a great lunch experience and I would highly recommend it.

Solid meal at the base of Ajax mountain. Prices were a bit steep but at least it was good. $31.00 for a Wagu burger...I really couldn't tell if it was any better than a regular burger. The fries were delicious. When in Aspen you expect to pay Aspen prices. My son had the muscles and he said they were really good and it was a good size.

My family eats at Ajax every time we come to Aspen as it's so conveniently close to the gondolas. My family wanted to call out the amazing service that Ani, our waitress, provided. She ensured that our son (with a dairy allergy) got a burger with sourdough bread to be compliant with his allergies, and she brought a wonderful burger/aoli sauce that was dairy free. The staff also kindly provided a high chair and booster seat. The food came out quickly and the fries were perfectly seasoned. The only constructive criticism I had was that the burger patties (in the adult double cheeseburger I ordered) was a a little dry/overcooked, but maybe they are trying to achieve more of a smash burger style, which if that is the case, the burgers were cooked as intended. All-in-all, the experience was great, and if there are families of young kids, we would recommend getting there right when they open for lunch at 11:30!

Amazing service, super close to the mountain. Definitely get the tomato or French onion soup when it's cold!!

Post Aspen Valley marathon lunch was enjoyed at Ajax! I ordered the cheeseburger and truffle fries. Delish! I had about half and later regret tossing the other half outside of the airport when my flight was later cancelled. I was wishing I had the remainder of my meal for dinner. I was seated immediately upon my arrival and service was great! Gorgeous views. I happily recommend Ajax as they came as a recommendation from a close friend of mine who knew I was going to be in town.

My heart is still thinking about the truffle fries . It's amazingly delicious and a MUST have! My husband and daughter loved their burgers. My dish was just ok for me. The service was great and staff were friendly.

Service | Fries | outdoor area Service -The staff provided excellent service, from the welcoming hostess to the two attentive servers who went above and beyond to help us. They were very knowledgeable about the menu and made fantastic recommendations. Fries - our group shared the perfect appetizer of fries, which easily catered to 2 to 4 people and arrived in a sizable tower.. Pretty tasty highly recommend. Outdoor area - During the summer, one of the best things about Aspen is their spacious outdoor area. I highly recommend sitting outside, as every table is covered and has one to two umbrellas to provide shade from the sun. Pro tip: The restaurant is conveniently located by the ski lift, making it the perfect spot to grab a delicious lunch before heading up the slopes for a breathtaking panoramic view of Aspen.

Tavern/restaurant at the Little Nell, one of the super expensive hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain. Went on a weeknight before 6pm, and the place wasn't too busy. Mid-size indoor space, and also has some outdoor space that's probably open during the day. Menu has the beers, cocktails, and food items from a tavern/sit-down restaurant, but of course a bit pricier since it's a fancy hotel in Aspen. Got the wagyu double cheeseburger, and upgraded the fries to truffle fries. The burger is pretty hefty, with a nice shiny bun. The wagyu beef patties are very flavorful and juicy. The truffle fries were also very tasty. Crispy with the truffle oil, parmesan and herbs, and they give you plenty. Total was $38 before tax and tip. Definitely pricey for a pub style burger and fries, but it was pretty tasty. Service at Ajax Tavern was really good as well.

If you want to sit outside you absolutely need to plan ahead. We weren't worried where we sat but I wanted to mention this because every time I have come here it's several hours wait. Great place to spend an afternoon just plan ahead. This time we sat inside and grabbed a drink. Everywhere in Aspen will break the bank so we know what our expectations were going in. The staff was lovely but didn't understand the menu any better than we did and we ended up ordering head cheese on accident with the charcuterie. They also told us that it came with cheese, which it didn't which doubled the cost of the charcuterie. The whole experience was fun but nothing memorable- except for my mom eating head cheese trying to figure out what it was (fyi, it's meat jelly). There are other options in town that are way better so I think Ajax, especially inside is just ok.

Had a great time having lunch outside during Fall. The ambience is great and the service is very attentive. We had the wagyu burger and a Caesar salad which complimented each other very nicely. The burger was delicious and the salad was nice and light. Will be coming back here as long as I keep returning to aspen

The thai coconut soup, though, was a bit of a let down. It had all the right flavors, but was in dire need of some acidity and sweetness. Without that, it was quite one-dimensional. Service was decent. We were seated outside so quite a lot of people around and so it often felt quite cramped. Overall, not bad but there's definitely better out there.

I appreciated that someone saw that wasn't an ideal setup and moved us before we awkwardly said anything. For the food, the pasta was a highlight for both my wife and myself. I got the fettuccini and my wife the prawn pasta and both were great. The bread was also extremely fresh and olive oil nice and robust. My drink was well balanced. To get me to write any letter the experience must be pretty extreme and even more so when you consider the food was great and service (once we sat down) was also excellent. My wife and I got there at about 630 expecting to wait for bar seats for a group of 4. Our friends who play local shows and are regulars at Ellina and know the staff joined us. I checked in with the hostess and just made sure on the bar wait protocol and offered to put our name down and they said first come first serve. There was another couple in front of us and when 2 seats opened up in the corner we told them and they sat down (cause it would obviously be wrong to cut in front of them even though we were closer to the seats). We waited patiently for a good 45 minutes with our 2 friends but were not on top of the hostess station cause it was crowded with traffic (we only were like 5 feet away though even with the middle of the bar). About 10 minutes into our wait a group of 3 walked by us (2 girls and a guy celebrating a bday) to also wait at the bar. I remember them walking in cause they  accidentally bumped into me and apologized on their way to wait right by the host station for bar seats. When finally 2 seats opened up my wife and my friend's wife took the seat and when another 10 minutes went by 3 seats next to them opened up. We went to grab 2/3 seats and then the guy from the party said that's our seats. I told him it's first come first serve and they lied and said we were here first. I mention they walked into us while you were walking in and tried to tell them we were right behind the couple who were seated before us an hour ago (their party wasn't even there for that..that's how long we were waiting). Instead of letting me explain, the manager or owner came over and yells "MY BAR MY RULES" at me and said told the other party to sit down. My friends who are regulars and know the bartender and actually have met the her (Jill??) were also shocked. So we had no choice but to wait a little longer before another few seats opened up. We did end up sitting next to the same party of the 3 and the guy actually apologized to my wife multiple times cause they knew they were in the wrong. They totally lied and got away with it.  Despite the rudeness we spent $450 and appreciate Willy working hard for us but my friends and I don't see any of us going back and supporting the establishment after the way the earlier situation was handled and after an attempt to reach privately still no response. There was so many more mature and professional ways to handle the situation like asking for my explanation or having the host who first saw me vouch for me (I asked her if there was a list to put our name down for the bar trying to be proactive) or ask the other couple that was seated down right before us, or being proactive and implementing a waiting list or maybe offering us or the other party drinks or appetizers) but yelling at a customer and completely being in the wrong was so unbelievable out of pocket. It really ruined the meal for all of us despite objectively good food and drinks and like I said Willy and David were great. Please treat your future customers better than us.

When we were not attending related events, we met friends in town for dinners at rather well-known restaurants -- all were just fine. Quite good, even. But not... great. Then, with a bit of luck and a determined snowstorm, we found ourselves having to stay in Aspen for two additional days. Luckily, we were welcomed back at the resort and, hunkering down with the weather, decided to simply stay put and have dinner on property at West End Social. Due to the weather, we practically had the place to ourselves, which was genius, as we were able to spend even more time with our utterly delightful and endlessly competent server, John B. What followed was easily the best meal we had in Aspen. The pâté was insanely delicious, the pork chop was the best my partner has ever had, and the focaccia (the focaccia!), wildly delicious -- crackling at the edges, deeply earthy, and, I suspect, lifted by a whisper of cornmeal. The only tragedy was that we found ourselves unable to cross the finish line to dessert. And so it was that we came back again the next evening. We ordered an entirely different assortment of dishes (save the otherworldly focaccia), and once again -- perfection. My job back in Massachusetts is to write about local food, farms, and chefs, which is to say only that I think about food -- a lot. And so it is that with total confidence and unbridled enthusiasm I can say -- West End Social, with its gorgeous space, exquisite food, and outstanding people who make it all happen -- is a gem.

It's not as if we took a table away from paying customers in a packed restaurant. Charging that kind of fee when the restaurant was empty is one thing, but the dismissive and hostile attitude made it far worse. Aspen is known for warm hospitality, and everyone else we encountered was wonderful. Unfortunately, this was the worst customer service experience I had there. I would strongly recommend spending your money somewhere that values its guests.

For my main I split with a friend the steak and the truffle risotto. The steak was perfection. The truffle butter made this so good! The risotto I also loved because the truffle was not to overpowering. I loved this! Andddd they can make a pornstar martini!

I called them at 8:30 and they said kitchen is open till 9pm which was fair. We got there at 8:50pm and the hostess looked over to someone who looked like the shift manager and she said "sorry the kitchen is closed". I did not feel like arguing so we just decided to have some pizzas and drinks. That was a big mistake. I ordered what looked like a calzone (pizza that is wrapped) and it was the saltiest dish I've tried. Again we were trying to be mindful and too nice but I think we just went too far for being too nice. I then ordered the other pizza and it was honestly quite mediocre. The waiter was really nice and that's why I'm giving it 1 star otherwise it would be zero for us. They weren't even willing to provide salad. Come on! You can't even make salad in your kitchen? That was just ridiculous. And believe it or not, we had amazing food in every other restaurant we tried in Aspen so this was certainly a one off. My suggestion to the management team is to be honest about your the last call from your kitchen. If you close at 10pm and your kitchen runs till 9pm, you ought to be able to take orders till 9pm. Otherwise, be upfront and shot down kitchen at 8:30pm. Quite disappointed and not even sure if I would ever want to give this place a try.
