Unbelievably misleading experience buying tickets online. What an iconic night! From the outside, it doesn't look like much but once you descend down stairs and enter you are welcomed into the most intimate, unique venue I've ever been to! On Jan 4th, I had checked my jacket with coat check and at the the end of the show I had gone up to retrieve my jacket with my claim ticket and they had lost it. I had just purchase this coat the day before for $1,600. I spoke to Connor who is one of the managers and we exchanged information that night. He confirmed that he did review the tapes and I did arrive with a coat and that it was lost or stolen. He then told me he would have general manager Elizabeth reach out to me to talk about some compensation. When she called she was really sweet and asked for the receipt of the coat. I sent her the receipt and I never heard back. I called a and messaged but she blew me off. Terrible experience, no communication. No apology and had to walk home that night with out a jacket in 15 degree weather. I've given them plenty off time to make it right. read more

The Red Rocks lineup for summer 2019 wasn't really my jam, but that forced me and my husband to seek out shows in other venues around Colorado, including Belly Up. What a cool, intimate space to see a concert. Band of Horses is an oldie and a goodie, so when tickets went on sale in at Belly Up, we snatched a pair and booked a hotel to spend a Saturday night in Aspen. I don't believe they were terribly expensive, as they were GA and not reserved VIP seating. Even if you're a regular ol' attendee to a show, watching from the floor is not bad at all! People were pretty polite, no pushing or shoving, or my biggest pet peeve: tall guys who stand directly in front of short women and completely blocking their view. Nope, it was a middle aged, bearded-dude-with-their-lady (or best bro) kind of crowd. Mellow for sure. I forgot earplugs but really didn't need them. Show started pretty much on time and we were out of there right as the encore was about to begin, around 11:30 pm. Given their location, there's likely a specific time that music has to end... maybe midnight? Because the venue is so small, getting a drink at the bar was really easy and surprisingly drinks were pretty cheap. So really, it's an ideal venue if you're not looking to get too wild. Though I've seen other acts that come to Belly Up and I'm sure they get a bit more turnt than my Chardonnay-loving self. read more

Wouldn't you know I've found a new favorite new indoor music venue but it's all the way out in Aspen! The Belly Up is a fantastic intimate venue with excellent sound and a fun atmosphere. At some point, you're sure to spend time getting an eyeful of the hundreds of photos that line the walls and even spill into the bathrooms (hot dudes in the ladies' room and hot chicks in the mens' room). I seriously wonder how they are going to fit any more framed pictures in that place! Reserved seating, with its many perks, is most definitely the way to go. Use your reserved ticket to enter through the out door and skip the long line at the general admission entrance (go downstairs near the corner of Durant and Galena). The reserve section is a combination of rail seats in the front and tables behind. Security guards manning velvet ropes make certain only reserved ticket holders gain entry to the reserve section so it never gets too crowded. Our server also told us that usually every show entire reserved tables won't even show up. During our show, the table beside us stayed empty, even though the show was sold out. More dancing space for me! The tables aren't cheap so we guessed those tickets must be corporate gifts of some sort. Be warned, the reserved seating policy is a bit strange and confusing. For instance, the tables are advertised to hold six people but fitting even four at one table is quite a challenge. In addition, the venue will seat different parties together at the tables as seating is based on the time of purchase and the configuration of groups. Which is how the two of us ended up at a table with two strangers, even though we all bought our tickets immediately when they went on sale. Our tablemates were nice and friendly but next time I think rail seats will do just fine for the two of us. Our show was a combo of reserved and general admission tickets but you can reserve a table for a GA show starting at a $250 minimum food and beverage purchase (pricing depends upon the show). Bottle service is also offered if you are so inclined. We ordered a couple of snacks before the show and found the food surprisingly fresh and tasty. The menu listed several great options. I had the house salad and we shared the hummus plate. Portions were large. Drink prices were not bad for Aspen. Our waitress treated us to awesome service all night long and we never had to wait too long for anything. If you have the chance to catch a show here, don't pass up the opportunity! I'm happy to have finally checked this one off my Colorado bucket list and hope to make it back one day in the not too distant future. Yelp Review #500 read more

Even with earplugs it was painful and when I went to the restroom the walls were shaking like the place is going to crash. ** ordered the kale salad, it was gross. ** when concert was done I waited in line 10 min to get my coat, just to discover that they have two windows of coat check and being sent to the top of the other line behind 40 people. This place is the best live music venue in Aspen. My favorite one is to dance right in the front and dance to the end of the concert, love... love this place. There is no other place that you can dance or stand less than 4 feet away from the stage from your favorite band/singer, but this place rock it! Granted it is a bit of a drive from Metro Denver- but if you find yourself up in the mountains for a couple days- check the schedule for this venue as it hosts top acts in a great atmosphere. My experience at The Belly Up was great! The friends I had come with said it was a little unusual, but because it was a smaller act the place opened up there usual VIP seating areas for general admission. Drinks are decently strong, but $10 bucks a piece...not too uncommon for a live music venue and definitely not uncommon for aspen. The music sounded great. Their sound system was perfect for our show. Lots of clears and good distortion to go with it....you could hear it all. The seats and table we had made it comfy for a show and the we could see perfectly because it's tiered. I look forward to more shows there read more

Came to see Lupe Fiasco at Belly Up and it was a great experience. You are literally face to face with your favorite artist even if you buy general admission. If you like to budgie it up a bit get the reserved seating which is half way between the dance floor and the upper level but you're roped off from the riff raff of Aspen (which basically doesn't exist). We got there an hour early and were able to find a place to sit without a problem. Staff was friendly but the drinks were expensive so get ready in your room if thats your thing. read more

This is one of my favorite music venues I've ever been to. I've been fortunate enough to see three great shows here and the layout of the venue makes it so everyone has a good view. The sound quality is amazing! For some shows it's not too pricey to get a table so it's definitely worth it on busier nights otherwise it can be pretty tight. I've always had good service and drinks and I make an effort to come at least one night when I'm visiting Aspen. read more

Call me old and boring but I'm so over the mosh pit days. I like to see live music in a venue where I can sit down, order a nice beverage (preferably a little bubbly) and relax while listening to some live tunes. The Belly Up is an awesome music venue. Seriously intimate, laid back and fun. We saw Jane's Addiction here on NYE and it was the perfect beginning to 2012! It's large enough to feel like a party but small enough where there isn't a bad seat in the house. Definitely worth checking out while in Aspen! read more

Belly Up is my favorite venue of all time. The small and intimate setting of this venue makes it the perfect place to see any type of show! Located in the heart of downtown Aspen, Belly Up serves great drinks and even better sound and acoustics. We came in October to see Bonobo and I was super excited because he always plays a great show. I was even more impressed when I realized how great this venue was. The sound was fantastic and it was so nice to be so close to the stage! No matter where you are sitting in Belly Up, you can see the stage. The seats are plush and comfortable. There is a gorgeous bar and the building is softly lit. The waitresses were very nice and fast with our drinks. They had some great beer on tap. I would highly recommend seeing your favorite artist at Belly Up, you will not be disappointed! read more

They say it's one of the best venues in the country but I don't think it's even in the top 50. The sound 2/10, drink pours/prices 3/10, staff 4/10, sight lines 1/10, cost 1/10, proximity to band 10/10, visual lights potential 4/10, bathrooms 4/10, entrance procedure 1/10, crowdedness 1/10. People think that because you're close the band that that makes it the best venue. Well it's not. If you can't hear or see the band because the sound is terrible and the sight lines are non existent then what's the point. Also stop selling so many damn tickets. That place is packed, you can't move anywhere in there. This place is also probably the biggest fire hazard ever. Shit if there's a fire in that place people are going to die, a lot of people. Maybe that's why they have that weird policy of only letting in 5 people at a time from the outside. They know if they block that entrance people could be in real trouble. read more

What deadmau5?!? January 26th?!? Missed him by a week or so... We walked down the stairs and spoke with someone about the concert that night. The SPAZMATICS from Los Angeles were in town and the locals were raving about them. The locals were dressed in 80's wear and the older women were pinching our young male friends' asses. Apparently a good time all around. My friend and I opted to get some rest while 3 of our friends went and had a blast. We hadn't slept in over 24 hours and had just flown from CA, then drove up to Aspen but deadmau5 was playing we'd pull an all-nighter, I know that for a fact. I saw Social Distortion here and that show sold out in a day. Not surprising considering the Belly Up can only hold 450 people at maximum capacity. It's an intimate venue with a bar and elevated floors for viewing the stage at every height. There's free coat check and it's great area to park in with surrounding stores and restaurants which is awesome. You can really get close to the musicians as they perform here unlike most venues who hold the crowd back 100 feet from the stage with an iron barrier. And as a merch girl, I always think it's awesome when venues have designated areas for bands to set up their merchandise. Belly Up takes care of the bands that way. Makes it easier for the fans and for the bands and everyone in between. Drinks are expensive. I wasn't surprised. I met the manager that night, she was super sweet and helpful. She pointed out the coat check area without me asking and was helping people sell their extra tickets to other people waiting outside to (hopefully) get in to see Social D, who sell out every venue they ever play. I'd drive another 4 hours from Denver to Aspen to see another band here. Though there were some useful features to the venue it gets 3 stars because seeing a show there doesn't make me feel like it was a collective experience like how the Bluebird or Marquis in Denver makes me feel. Must be the surround-sound ground shaking chest thumping audio I like that Belly Up doesn't totally excel at. read more

Belly Up in Aspen is about as perfect as you can get. There is nothing bad I have to say about this place. It's worth the drive and the cost of a room to stay overnight if you are coming from out of town. If you really love a band, you won't want to miss them here. You can get up close and personal with the band. I literally stood underneath moe. and have some amazing pics to show off. One of the band members even turned his fan onto me because I was dripping more sweat than he was from dancing! There is no other venue that is as intimate as this. It's not just because of how small it is either, it's that the stage is a few feet off the ground. The small floor area directly in front of the stage is general admission. Above that there are raised levels with bar tables and booths. This is the reserved area which was scored a spot in. Looking onto the band from up there was super fun, because you are still so close. We had amazing servers that kept our drinks full the entire show. There was enough room to dance up there too. I never went to the bar because we had such great servers so I can't comment on them. I keep my eye on the schedule now by following their facebook page and plan on doing more shows here in the future. There are so many great bands that play here before they come to Denver or Boulder so you can make a run of it! The only thing is that this creates weekday shows at the Belly Up because the bands play on the Front Range over the weekends. read more

This is a cool venue with awesome shows but whoever is working the door and in charge of all that needs to go. I've been going to shows here for a while but the last few times has been a huge hassle to get in, especially tonight the tall dark haired door guy working the door Tech9 concert who denied my entry on the guest list when all my friends were there to confirm who I was, I had a valid picture ID, and multiple second documents but no "state issued ID" so he wouldn't let me come in to confirm myself because "I can print anything on anything" so I won't be going back until it's a headliner that I really want to see or until the tall dark haired kid is gone. read more

Great place to see bands in a more intimate setting than in Denver. The prices are a little higher-but it's Aspen. We camped nearby or stayed at cheap hotel that is walking distance. All the seats have a great view & you can bring your younger nieces & nephews. The food is decent too. It's a fun mini-vacation to drive up from Denver & see a show. Kudos to you Belly Up. You hosted an outstanding event on Saturday of F&W. You booked THE most amazing 80s/90s cover band (The Spazmatics) and catered to food professionals (including world renowned chefs and "celebrity" chefs) and all of our closest friends. That is NO easy task but everyone was happy, well fed, and politely buzzed enough to interact with each other and enjoy the show. I've been disappointed many times with these sorts of "post event" gatherings and am more than pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth being tired the next morning! read more

The Belly Up is the greatest thing to come to Aspen since snow. I've seen around 100 shows there in the past few years. Reggae, Rock, Hip Hop, Hippy shit, they get it all. The concert tickets and drinks are expensive (the only reason why I only rated it 4 stars), but hell, it's Aspen. What do you expect? They serve food until 10pm so if you get to the show early have some pizza. The sound quality is AMAZING for such a small venue. This place puts a lot of money into the concert experience. If you are in town and there is a show GO SEE IT! This place should not be missed during a vacation to Aspen. FYI - Get your tickets at least a couple of days before the show. We saw Minus the Bear and Everest. Had no problem getting right up next to the stage, one person from the stage floor. Had no problems getting back to the bar, either. Or the bathroom. Alright, take two. I have stopped in two more times now: once with a friend, and again alone. I got over my insecurity of the whole age thing and learned to just find humor in everyone's awkwardness. It's actually quite liberating! One of the bouncers recognizes me now, and is incredibly polite and pleasant towards me. I went to see Nervo [a badass sexy sister dj duo] perform, and they rocked my socks off. They're incredibly popular, but I couldn't understand how the venue was so dead! There had to have been only 40 people there at the most. Whatever! Everyone elses' loss, and all the more intimate with me! I can't wait to come back to this venue when I'm in town again! read more
