He was incredibly kind, attentive, and gave us great recommendations that really enhanced our experience. We ordered the Caesar salad, which I understand is one of their signature dishes, and it did not disappoint -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The onion soup was perfect for the weather, warm, comforting, and very tasty. We also had the burger, which was excellent and very satisfying. We didn't order more only because we had already had snacks on the mountain, but honestly, everything we saw being served around us looked incredible. Hot, delicious, loved that the cheese was thin and not a thick layer. Same goes for the bread. 2. Ribeye cap (special; 8oz) - Very peppered with a crust on top. Delicious and more lean than I thought (which is not a bad thing). 3. Asparagus - Nice touch that they split them lengthwise. Salt and pepper, sauce on the side as requested. Very good. 4. Bison burger - Big, oily, messy. Truffle fries are average but good flavor. The bacon in the burger is overpowering so had to remove and put on the side. Received a gift card to Monarch from one of my clients. Decided to go in and have myself a nice steak dinner. Started out with the mussels. And they tasted phenomenal. Ordered the eye of round steak with the scallop potatoes. Quite possibly the best steak I've ever had. The bartender I believe his name was Paul was amazing. Very attentive. It's hard to rate high end steak houses. The food is almost always good and value is hard to judge in a resort area. The hostess did not respond well to our request for better seating (we didn't want to sit next to the kitchen). The next table offered was at the front door. Only with a lot of prodding did she reluctantly agree to a better table even though several were open. Three of us had steaks, the fourth ordered the sole. Two of shared the Caesar which we were told we'd be talking about the next day. Sorry but no. It was ok. Two others had The Monarch Salad which looked good and was loaded with bacon. Other reviewers have commented that the steaks are too highly seasoned. I understand why they felt that way but I didn't mind the peppery seasoning. Our server was good; fairly typical for a high end steak place. The wine list is extensive and we enjoyed our Burgundy but, again, value is hard to judge in Aspen. I don't really want to leave a bad review but when you are spending $400+ on a dinner and the food isn't great and the service is pretty bad sometimes you just have to call a spade a spade. My opinion of this restaurant is that it's very overpriced for the quality and the quantity that you get. Your steak comes with no sides, which a lot of steak places are doing nowadays but when you spend $15-20 per side and the portions are for an individual person that seems pretty steep for me. I got the special which was a 10oz bone-in filet. It was just okay, and I tried the Diver Scallops which were very overcooked and my wife's lobster she got on top of her pasta was so overcooked we couldn't even cut through it. If you come here I'd suggest staying away from any sort of seafood it doesn't seem like they are well prepared to cook those properly and if you want a steak the meat here is good, just nothing amazing especially for the price point. read more

Great except they will not allow your registered support dog if it's an Emotional support dog, which was off putting given they do have an outdoor dining patio. In Aspen everyone has dogs. It's so dog friendly, except at Monarch when it comes to emotional support dogs. Otherwise it's great food, service and ambience. read more

Monarch Steakhouse is wonderful. First of all, the staff is so kind, and the restaurant is so classic Aspen. When you go you HAVE to get the Caesar salad, they make it at your table and it's the best I've ever had. Besides that, all the meat is very good. I am always content. The service from the hostess, manager and bar tenders is far below average. Drinks were not good and the food was even more disappointing. Wife and I enjoyed the ambiance (romantic and dimly lit), and the food was spot on for a good steakhouse and memorable meal. Sarah was really hospitable and able to squeeze us into a seating on a Friday night at 9pm. Sides were also generally full of flavor (although the mashed tasted like a salt pill that night, but I could have sent them back and didn't), and our Manhattans were also perfectly made. They know how to make a good cocktail. We had so much food we took some of it back to The Limelight Hotel and had it at midnight. Again, excellent second time around! Prices are upper end, exactly as advertised. We split a bone in strip steak, and it was about $60.-70., and well worth it. Steak is prime for sure, melt in your mouth good....
