Stopped on the way home! The food was great but the service was amazing.... we will be back for sure!!!

I visited this restaurant with my cousin, I am a visitor from out of town, because she had eaten here before and had a good experience. I received the complete opposite impression as soon as we sat down... The sign said see the host stand to be seated, so as we were making our way over there a nice young man told us to pick any table we would like. My cousin said the river view was very pretty, so we chose a table with that view. That table, along with a few others, had not been cleared/cleaned yet (which we didn't have a problem with but apparently they did). We sat down and a very rude server came over and essentially asked why we were sitting at a dirty table and that they have a system with the host desk. We said we didn't mind, but again they seemed to have a problem - because she walked away and the bar tender came over and asked if we checked in with anyone. She also seemed to have a problem with the fact that we sat at a dirty table! And then a third server came over and said "Can I get you anything else to drink besides a dirty table?" At that point, we just left. One rude encounter, okay, but 3 different people?? Absolutely unacceptable. We will never be eating there again and I will be telling my family to do the same. read more

We live in Denver and have been frequent customers over the years. Today, may have changed that! We had our dogs, so my husband asked an employee if they still allowed dogs on the back patio and we were assured that was fine if there was a seat. We quickly found a table. While I went to the bathroom the owner, Andy, and hostess, Margie, quickly and abruptly descended on me and said, verbatim... " I see you decided to just seat yourselves" I responded that my husband spoke to someone to which he responded " I am the OWNER, and he didn't talk to me or Margie and we have people waiting" ( btw, this was in front of other guests and it was at 2:00 and there were plenty of open tables)! I was flabbergasted that the owner of an establishment would talk to a guest like this... so many different ways to communicate that we needed to wait for a table or put our name in versus this very rude confrontation. I wanted to leave immediately as I don't think this type of behavior warrants my business. We ended up staying and had a fabulous waitress, Suzanne. The food is MEH. If I was new in town, I would probably skip as there are so many different options. It's too bad that an owner has this type of attitude read more

MUST READ PRIOR TO VISIT We dined at Tipsy Trout on Friday evening, March 20th. The dinner itself was good--two beers, a burger and fries--and the price was reasonable for the area. Our waitress was also great during the meal. Unfortunately, everything that followed completely overshadowed the dining experience. When we sat down on the patio, I took my wallet out of my back pocket and placed it on the table. After finishing dinner, we paid and left. About 5-7 minutes later, I realized I had left my wallet behind and returned immediately to retrieve it. When I got back, two new guests were seated at the table and said they had not seen a wallet and that the table had been cleaned before they arrived. I spoke with our waitress, who told me the manager had cleared the table, so I checked with him as well. He said he had not seen it. At that point, it became clear that my wallet had gone missing while still on the restaurant property. I had an AirTag in the wallet, and its location never left the premises. I searched extensively and asked multiple staff members if they had seen it, but no one had. Eventually, my friend found my wallet in the alley behind the restaurant, near a cigarette tray and some brush. The wallet still contained my cards, but my ID and $5 cash were missing. I returned to speak with the manager again about the missing items and got no meaningful help or resolution. I filed a report with the Basalt Police that evening at the restaurant. An officer came out, took the report, spoke with employees, and began reviewing the situation, including obtaining security camera footage from the restaurant. Early the next morning, the police department returned to follow up, speak with staff, and search the property. Later that morning, I received a call that my ID had been located in the trash room associated with the restaurant in the same alley area where the wallet was originally found. I was informed by law enforcement that the matter is under investigation and that multiple individuals of interest had been identified. Credit to the Basalt Police Department--they went above and beyond to recover my ID and follow up on this situation. I have not heard from ownership regarding this situation. While the food and service during the meal were good, the overall experience was unacceptable. Having personal property go missing on-site, later recovered in an alley and trash area with items removed, combined with the lack of accountability or follow-up, is not something I would expect anywhere. I would not recommend dining here based on this experience. read more

The Chile Verde was delicious! Visiting from out of state and returned for second time same month. The short rib sandwich and hamburger were plentiful and tasty. Mia was an excellent and efficient member of the waitstaff. You can't beat the outdoor setting. read more

This is a very popular place especially the weekends. They were short staffed and had a fryer down so many of the menu items weren't available. Staff did a great job of dealing with the issues and made us feel right at home. There was a 30 minute waiting list when we arrived. You'll learn that the premium seating is outside with the river view. You get food service at the bar if the wait list is long. Cold beer and drinks, good vibe and great staff. Nice place after playing all day in the sun. read more

I walked in with my brother and his two kids, who had leftover pizza and ice cream from a local pizza shop. While my brother was in the restroom, the owner (Andy) came over and informed me that it was rude to bring in food from another establishment and that they offered plenty of food and desserts. I was caught off guard, and before I could respond, he walked away. I found his approach rude and was annoyed that he made so many assumptions without giving me a chance to explain. We had just driven in after several days of camping, and as a reward for being such good kids on many strenuous adventures, we promised them pizza and ice cream. We happened to walk by this place on the way back to our hotel and decided to drop in for drinks while the kids ate their ice cream. I originally planned on leaving a one-star review, but after looking into it further, I noticed Andy had a history of being rude to customers and seemed to lose his cool over minor issues. Taking that into consideration, I came to the conclusion that Andy was actually holding back. He even told us to have a nice day on our way out. I think he's working on himself--or at least on his approach--and I respect that. So I'm leaving four stars for good service. Avoid this place at all costs! The servers are horribly rude and the food is subpar at best. So disappointed!

Loved this little spot in Basalt and it was hopping with locals. Really good food and we got a spot quickly. I really loved the beef stroganoff. We are looking forward to coming again this summer to enjoy a drink on the river. read more

This place is underrated!!! I think it's new but our server was excellent, his name started with a E. The chef did a great job with incorporating a lot of fish, salmon trout into his dishes. We started w the trout dip w pita bread it was delicious! Also ordered the salmon and shrimp pesto pasta. Very fulfilling. Had a good experience Thank you to all the staff, very friendly. We're visiting from LA and thought the portion and taste was on point for the price. More on the expensive side but that's every place in LA without the taste so we enjoyed our experience dining in. read more

I love the atmosphere of this place. The people serving and having the option of inside, outside, or outside inside. Yes, there is such thing as outside inside, you'll have to just come here to experience it. I was on a road trip and saw sign pointing to a cute little historic town and did not regret the stop. Not only is this place on the river but is surrounded by beautiful scenery with cute little buildings and a fly shop next door. Turns out this area is one of the best in Colorado for flying fishing and makes the name Tipsy Trout even better. Hope to one day come back here so I can have a beer by the river outside with chatting across the bar with locals on the inside. I had ate a bit before stopping in but the name made me curious and I was parched so I just got a small smoked trout chowder and it was good but not as Smoky as I would have liked. The vibe in here was welcoming and kind of like the show Cheers with the crowd that was in it. And that is how you know this place is an absolute gem. Be back soon! read more

We were looking for a place to eat after a long day skiing Snowmass and a friend recommended this place. He said it was like the dive bar of Basalt. I thought it was really nice for a dive bar. It's close off the highway, so easy to get to and has great views being right off the river. Plenty of seating and it has an old fishing cabin feel to it. I'd recommend the chicken fried steak sandwich or the fish and chips. The Cuban panini is highly rated but I thought it was a little dry and not very filling. The chicken fried steak sando was huge though! Very tender chicken inside a nice, crunchy buttermilk breading. The fish and chips are very good also; well seasoned, fresh and crunchy. read more

The Tipsy Trout is worth checking out. They have a limited menu which from what I could tell allows more focus on what they serve. It's not a fancy place but it's fun and easy to spend time there. There's a creek along the backside of the restaurant and they are in the process of remodeling their back deck which should be amazing. I had there truffle oil and Parmesan cheese fries which were good and their Beef Stroganoff I thought was amazing and worth going back for. My co-worker had their smoked trout chowder and he really liked it. They have key lime pie so I had that at the end and it was a great balance of tart to sweet. Great atmosphere with the hardwoods and corrugated metal ceiling. It's worth going back too. read more

This establishment is great. It's perched on a scenic river that runs through the town. The atmosphere is fun and light. Our server was fantastic and recommended her favs. The elk burger is amazing and you should get it. It's CO and if you haven't noticed Elk are everywhere. The shrimp and grits is good. Have to admit that I was pretty shocked seeing that on the menu this far west. Overall the food was really good. Oh yeah they have beers here also. I am looking forward to coming here again. Just decided to go here after walking around area and super nice inside and staff was really friendly. I asked waiter what was good and for the new chicken sandwich and I'd highly recommend. Super crispy and juicy. I also got the Calamari and couldn't believe how good it was. The one creamy sauce it came with I could have taken it home with me. Will definitely go back! read more

The food is fine but nothing to go out of your way for. The drinks taste watery and flavorless. And the owner called multiple people in my party assholes and pricks while we were trying to enjoy our day and almost squared up to fight an older member sitting at our table. I came to the Tipsy Trout midway through a summer bike ride through the glorious trails in the area. My friend, who lives nearby, made sure to get us a table on the patio looking out over the creek. It was a divine setting. I had the elk burger with roasted poblano pepper, goat cheese, and blueberry sauce because of the old saying "When in Colorado..." or something like that. Even though I'm still not convinced that elk makes a burger than good old-fashioned cow, it was still really, really good. The sweet potato fries on the side didn't hurt :) We washed it all down with a couple of beers, then hopped back on our bikes to finish out the day. Good times at the Tipsy Trout! read more

More than once I have had the horrible food and extremely horrible service. One time I ordered the lettuce wraps and the lettuce still had manure and bugs on it. Then the manager said it comes pre-washed from the distributor, to which we pointed out that the kitchen staff should wash everything when it arrives. Then the manager got mad because I refused to eat it, it had bugs and dirt on it! I will never go back. Incompetence and laziness has ruined that place. read more

We had lunch on a Thursday in April at at the Tipsy Trout, which has a view of the Frying Pan River. We had been to the same restaurant on previous visits, I think most recently in 2005. but the name and ownership had changed. (Our server said it had been the Tipsy Trout for about five years. ) My uncle said that it had changed ownership several times, and that it hadn't been very good under some of the previous owners. It's good now. The restaurant has a view of the Frying Pan River. On past visits, we've seen catch-and-release fly fishers wading in the river, sometimes catching (and releasing) fish, but this time all we saw was a construction worker rebuilding the restaurant's outdoor deck. I don't eat much meat, but I ordered the elk burger, out of curiosity, and the assumption that the elk was not the product of a factory farm. The meat was a bit on the bland side, but the burger as a whole was delicious. I shared sweet potato fries with my wife (her idea); they almost always taste yummy, and these were just right on texture too. Win! My wife ordered a quinoa salad with avocado; they were out of simple avocado, but offered guacamole instead, which she shared. The guacamole was pretty good, but had a bit more onion than I like. She liked the salad. Our boy ordered sliders, and ate barely a nibble. Later, however, he devoured them enthusiastically, without even waiting for them to be reheated. Given that he refused to finish his leftover slider in Denver, and gobbled up these, I think he liked them a lot. My father ordered fish tacos, which were served with black beans and the same guacamole. He said that they were good, but I couldn't tell whether he meant "good enough", "fantastic", or somewhere in between. My uncle had a bowl of trout soup, and a caesar salad. He liked both, particularly the soup. Service was solid. The staff, however, were not wearing masks. It seems like almost no one in Colorado remembers that the pandemic has killed over a million people, and isn't over. I rate it a solid four-star "Yay! I'm a fan." It's very good, but a bit expensive (maybe just because it's the mountains), and a five-star "Best ever" would be grade inflation. read more

Even though it was raining, the umbrellas were large enough to keep us dry. The ambiance reminded me of seafood places in New Orleans. Excellent dining experience! read more

Came in after a bike ride and received terrible service. Our server was no where to be found, rushed us when ordering, wasn't able to answer simple questions about the menu. It makes so much sense that tip is automatically included here because they wouldn't get any if they didn't force it. On the way out I overheard our waitress talking poorly about another customer.
