My breakfast plate came with fries despite the menu indicating breakfast potato...
Doug M.

My wife and I were in Aspen during a road trip through Colorado and stopped in here for a brunch/lunch. And man was this place a major disappointment. The seating was nice on the outside patio...it was a very lovely late morning. But that is where things went downhill. The service was slow (although it was not very busy)... and when our server took our order (I think she was an exchange student working a summer temp job...she had a very strong accent)) she seemed very confused. My wife's BBQ order was brought out incorrect with multiple sides of the same thing (which we were charged for!) and I ordered the bacon and egg breakfast...instead of breakfast potato it came with fries...who eats fries for breakfast? She said they were out of the breakfast potato...maybe you mention that as I order? This place seemed so disorganized and the food quality is below average...would keep driving by next time.

Hickory House I saw this place on Yelp before my trip to Aspen and was super excited to try their onion rings and the "best ribs in Colorado". Food 3/5: We ordered the onion rings and half rib meal that came coleslaw, garlic bread, fries, and baked beans. The onion rings were a little bit of a let down because their menu claims that it feeds 2-3 people? We expected a mountain of em but they came in your average basket and fed nowhere near 2-3 people. The onion ring batter was a little bit over cooked and had little onion flavor because they were cut so thin. The ribs were pretty good but definitely lacked flavor. On their tables, it had their barbecue sauce that helped balance the blandness of the ribs. I really liked the smoked habanero bbq sauce. Overall the ribs and the onions were decent but I would not say the "best in Colorado". Ambiance: 5/5 The ambiance of the place was very well themed. I like the wooden structure and it really made you feel like you were in a cabin. We went during lunch on a Tuesday and it was pretty lively. Service: 5/5 Service was great, once we walked in we were seated immediately and our server was attentive. They quickly took our order and food came out in a timely manner.

Stopped by for breakfast because I heard that it was voted best breakfast in the town and after not really loving it I tried them for dinner one evening to see if it would be a better experience. Here are my takeaways!! Environment Plenty of space for outside seating and inside dining - has your typical bbq place vibe, beautiful art on the walls - family style restaurant. I stopped by during brunch hours so it was fairly empty and calm - bright and relaxing setting. Service The service was good. Nothing to run home about or complain about. He made sure I had what I needed and it was fast and efficient. Food and Drinks The breakfast food was not for me. For breakfast I had pancakes, eggs and I tried the grits. Pancakes - they were grain pancakes made with rolled oats, crushed wheat, quinoa and flax seed. So this was probably mostly my fault and just something I didn't prefer. Hit me with good ol unhealthy buttermilk lol. If you're into healthy pancakes then this may be the place for you. Eggs - the eggs scrambled with cheese were also not what I expected. They. kind of slapped the cheese on top of the eggs. It wasn't that great. The grits - similar to the eggs, they laid out block of cheese on top of the grits when serving. I mixed the cheese in to the grits but it didn't really make it any better. I'm from the south so it could be a regional different but it wasn't for me. As i mentioned earlier, I did want to try them again to see if they dinner was different experience so I ordered the burger and fries and I also wanted to try the mac and cheese. The burger was way better than my experience for breakfast. It was massive and pretty tasty. The fries were just okay and the mac and cheese - you definitely get your $10 dollars worth in your order. It's pretty fairly tasty and on the heavier side so it can easily fill you up. It wasn't bad but I've had better. Way better. Overall Overall not my favorite place but if I'm every in the area i should probably try the one thing they may be known for - the actual BBQ. I wouldn't completely count this place out - the burger was pretty good and worth a try and I would go back to try other options on the menu to see if I can get a winner.

Came for brunch and tried the french toast (3/5, pretty standard) and the baby back ribs (4/5, wish they were meatier). Service was great and the place felt homey!

Dry-Rubbed Smoked Wings - 4 pieces

Best bbq we've had and we've tried quite a few places during our travels all over North America. We ordered the 3 item Protein Power which came with pulled pork, beef brisket but substituted the chicken breast with the old Colorado smoked sausage, rack of pork ribs and dry rub wings. The bbq meat was tender, moist and seasoning was unique in a good way. The dry rub wings are tasty and juicy. The pork ribs were cooked perfectly, the meat comes off the bone. We'll be back again!

Disappointing. Ribs. It's in the name. Unfortunately the ribs are dry with very little meat. The brisket is also sad, again dry and unsalvageable even with sauce. The only good thing were the dry rub wings, but even here the failure is false advertising. You're getting whole drumsticks which isn't necessarily a bad thing but if you're expecting actual wings then you'll be upset. Sides are small and forgettable. At least the prices are reasonable, but the truth is the price of a rack of ribs should have tempered my expectations. Pickup service is quick. The space is rustic but I can't comment beyond that. If you're close by and you need a relatively cheap (for Aspen) meal, then it might be an ok option. If you have to walk 2 miles round trip in the snow to get it (like I did), then do yourself a favor and go somewhere else or get it delivered.

Well decent prices for Aspen, I can say that much! I ordered the avocado toast and holy moly, it came with probably 8 eggs mounded on top. I scrapped majority of them off but the gluten free bread was super great. They are very generous with the amount of avocado on the toast. The hash-browns were super dry and lacked flavor. The service was just alright. Maybe I should try what they are famous for if I end up near this spot again. I

Hickory House is home to one of the best breakfast deals in Aspen! A simple breakfast special always hits the spot after a couple of hours hiking in the morning! Consider eating on the patio, it's fun to watch the cars drive through town from there...not to mention how nice it is to look up at the lovely view of Aspen Mountain.

Great food and beautiful outdoor patio

Great restaurants bathrooms inside and street parking…read more Servers were very attentive and it gets busy so if you want a table i would consider making reservations. I came with my flight crew (just a couple of pilots in addition) and we just sat at the bar. I had the kale rotisserie chicken salad. The peanut dressing does have soy sauce so it is not gluten free, so they brought me a champagne vinaigrette instead. It was delicious. I got this during the cyclospora outbreak, because I'm a wild person now lol but they assured me they only get quality ingredients and super clean all veggies and fruit coming in. My pilots got the meatballs, creamed corn, and deviled eggs and they LOVED them.

The service was wonderful, we got our food very quickly, and the ambiance was adorable. A little loud but nothing too crazy. The food itself was fine. We ordered the duo dip, French fries, the French dip, and the chicken sandwich. The guac and the other dip were really good and we loved the chips too. The fries are pretty much what you'd expect, except once they got to room temperature they became super hard and not very edible. My husband said the French dip meat was good and tender, pretty good flavor overall. I had the chicken sandwich which was huge! They split the sandwich into three wedges and I could only finish two. I liked the texture of the chicken was nice and I liked the slaw on it, however, the flavor overall was kind of lacking. I would say it was a bit overhyped. Overall, it was a nice experience for a decent price and I'm glad we went. Would we go back? Probably.

Our experience at Meat & Cheese in Aspen was disappointing from beginning to end…read more To start with, the food was mediocre in every sense. The quality did not justify the prices, the flavors were forgettable, and nothing we ordered stood out. Unfortunately, what happened afterward was far worse. My wife accidentally left behind a shopping bag containing a brand new pair of sunglasses she had purchased earlier that day. When she returned to retrieve them, our interaction with a server named Carson was deeply disappointing. Instead of simply confirming ownership in a courteous and professional manner, Carson repeatedly questioned whether the sunglasses were actually hers. He kept emphasizing that they were brand new and worth around $600, making it clear that he found it difficult to believe they belonged to her. It was impossible not to feel that she was being judged based solely on her appearance. There is absolutely nothing wrong with verifying ownership of a valuable item. In fact, we appreciate businesses that take lost property seriously. What is unacceptable is allowing assumptions and stereotypes to influence how customers are treated. One lesson worth remembering is that genuine elegance and long established wealth rarely need to announce themselves. Those who have had the privilege of success across generations often feel no need to advertise it with designer logos or outward displays. True class is reflected in education, humility, confidence, and, above all, in the way people treat others. Ironically, Carson's assumptions said far more about his own judgment than they did about my wife. No customer should ever be made to feel that they need to "look wealthy" in order to be treated with respect. We hope management addresses this issue seriously. The mediocre food was forgettable. Being judged and treated with prejudice is not. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and dignity, regardless of how they are dressed or what assumptions someone chooses to make about them.

The decor has definitely got the Dia-de-los-muertos vibes with prayer candles included. So when we sat down I was so excited to get my all time favorite prickly pear margarita but they were out of the syrup! Ugh! No bueno. Mr. G had some Posole and wow! Like a 10 on the super spicy meter. Won't be getting that again. Service was friendly by our waiter but the "hostess" who gave us our menus? She needs some training or change of jobs. She didn't "greet" us. There was No hello? No smile? No eye contact? I'm so tired of restaurants placing the grumpiest person at the entrance to greet your guests. She just threw the menus on the table and walked away. Really? Is that how you would treat guests at your house? Maybe they just lost their motivation since they will be closing October 2025. I wish I would have had a chance to peruse the menu more, I must have been distracted by the negative energy the hostess gave us because the queso and elote that our neighbor had looked yummy so I wish we would have ordered that instead. Another downer? A local drunk at the bar yelling the F word? Ugh seriously? Where's my Palo Santo when I need it? Sage anybody? Some holy water? They might consider putting some of those prayer candles on the tables! I needed one because this visit had a lot of negative jou-jou! Overall it was just a quick stop for a drinkie and apps despite the mishaps. I hope they re-train the "hostess" or whatever she was to be friendlier.
