    Octopus Appetizer
    Jim G.

Seems like a good place for dinner with a combination of Italian and Spanish menu items. However, execution is the key to success. Located on the main strip of Basalt's business district the location is easy to get to and parking is onsite. The menu has several delightful dishes and a number of nightly specials. We started with a special of grilled octopus which was a very small portion and not bursting with flavor. The Arroz Negro-- Squid Ink Rice with Calamari, Shrimp and Scallops wasn't well prepared and the rice was slightly undercooked and under seasoned. I had the Linguini Fruitti di Mare which was a nice portion of squid ink pasta that tasted fresh and was the star of the dish. The only downside to the dish was the calamari which was overcooked and as they say "chewed like rubber bands". The server was nice when he was available, but we did not like the fact that he reached over our guest to serve the plates rather than walking to the other side of the table. Same was true when pouring our water and he never checked to refill our waters or ask if we would like any additional cocktails or wine. They have outdoor seating on the expansive porch or on tables and couches located on the front lawn. There was one family on the lawn that didn't control their child, so the manager had to tell the child to stop climbing on the restaurants sign and sit back at the table. I'm sure if the child fell or was injured it would be a major issue. Unfortunately I gave the restaurant a modest score and would hope that they can improve on their service and consistency of the dishes.

Tempranillo is a lovely place. Located in Old Town Basalt, the restaurant is housed in a historic building that was once the town's railroad hotel. Adding to the charm is its spacious porch and patio that is especially charming in the evenings when the string lights are turned on. The food consists of modern Spanish and Italian cuisine, and the menu is pretty extensive. The kitchen is very accommodating towards dietary restrictions, and there are plenty of gluten-free options. I came for dinner with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday, and we had the pappardelle mambo, gnocchi, and creme brulee. The food was delicious. The service is a different experience from the food though. Right after getting seated and before we even had a chance to order anything, we witnessed a rude customer and a server engaging in what escalated into a shouting match that resulted in the customer being kicked out. Aside from that, our server was pretty much absent the entire time. He was extremely slow and was hardly seen. It took forever to get our order placed and to get our food. However, the table next to us had the opposite experience. Their server was great, and we found out that there were plenty of specials on the menu thanks to overhearing her explaining them in details to her table. It would have been nice to have been told of the specials since they sounded really tasty, but we had already placed our order. With the location and food, we could have had a great experience. However, the service that we experienced completely shot that down. The service at Tempranillo is not bad. The service experience is a gamble though, and I would rather go to Vegas if I want to gamble and have good food.

Came into dinner on a Tuesday evening and it was a good time. Our table of four ordered 4 specials, lobster ravioli, cioppino , rib eye& lobster and the Branzino risotto. As an appetizer the calamari and a 2020 Tempranillo bottle of wine that our server Luka recommended. Thank you to Luka! He was knowledgeable with the menu and wine we were thoroughly impressed. I think he made our dining experience lovely. There was a hiccup with the risotto, it was actually undercooked but they brought us a new one right away. The manager came and made sure we were satisfied. The steak was also cooked a bit more than what we wanted (medium rare) but it came out medium and they ran out of lobster so it was replaced with shrimp. Slightly disappointed but We were okay though still good. The Branzino was cooked perfectly very crispy and the seasoning was well balanced w the risotto. Our favorite was the cioppino, wonderfully with a side of bread to dip. Luka brought out some dessert wine for us and we ended with the tiramisu and French toast dessert. Thank you Luka! The ambiance is nice, get some wine and pair it well with their specials. Would come back next season!

A friend recommended this spot for a group dinner. We made reservations for 730pm on a Saturday and glad we did! The food was delicious and the service was great! I got the pear salad which was a special and it was very yummy! My partner got the pork medallion special and it was melt in your mouth delicious. Everyone else said their meals were good as well. The prices are a little high but it's a nice restaurant near Aspen so I didn't think it was too bad. I'd definitely come back again.

And to stumble upon this chic and inconspicuous cocktail bar in the busy downtown was something I wasn't expecting and became a treat after a nice stroll through the town after dinner in my hotel room. From the moment I stepped inside, I knew I was at the place where my heart was calling for. There were two gents at the bar and one of them warmly greeted me and said I could sit anywhere I would like. I hence picked one of the bar seats. Except one table that was occupied by a couple I was the only one. I appeared to have picked the right time; I had the whole bar to myself (eventually though, several different groups of people streamed in; only a few of them sat at the bar close to me. The bar was spacious enough to comfortably accommodate a little over 10 people.) Jeremy, who greeted me upon arrival, was a super host. As soon as I explained that wine is my usual got-to, he said he could mix and match reds and whites to create a "flight" based on what I had told him as to my likings. His extensive explanations as to what sorts of reds and whites the bar offers/serves was (of course) all in his memory. His eloquent speech with no filler words truly impressed me; he sure is a wine connoisseur. What he picked for me were... -2024 Pepiere "Les Gras Moutons" (Muscadet) -Kobal "Bajta", Hazole Belo (aka Orange Wine) -Sandlands "Red Table Wine (Lodi Red Blend) With his wealth of knowledge, after giving him only a hint of what I liked, what Jeremy selected for me to sample/sip was a superb choice. All of them were world-class excellence with elegance and beauty. I carefully and slowly sipped each one little by little to truly immerse myself in the art of wine. Yes, wine is a piece of art for sure. I think I said it correctly at the beginning of this review. This is a cocktail bar with variety of spirits which Jeremy could easily concoct just about anything from gin-based one to vodka-based one to tequila-based ones to whiskey-based one to name several. For those who don't drink, their zero-proof section also has something interesting to browse and choose. Not to mention, rotating pilsner or IPA on tap to name a few from the beer section as well. If you need a little bite to eat, their (changing) food menu has a good number of New American-style plates. The bar originally opened in a different building back in 2015 (I believe). They moved to the current location in 2019. They also offer various different classes so you can expand/extend your knowledge. So for your next foodie vacation in Vail, make sure to include Root & Flower in your list.

Price: Expect standard Vail pricing for high-end cocktails, with most drinks ranging between $16-$20. Customer Service: The service was fantastic. The staff was incredibly kind and efficient; even though we stayed for quite a while to catch up, we felt welcomed and well-attended to the entire night. Atmosphere This spot has a cool, welcoming vibe that feels very safe. It's the kind of environment where you can really settle in and enjoy the company you're with. The Drinks I ordered the Sangre del Sol. The flavor was amazing, though be warned it is very strong! It's an excellent choice if you enjoy a cocktail with a serious kick, but I ended up letting my friend finish mine after a few sips. Overall Experience I highly recommend Root & Flower for a beautiful setting and top-tier service. Pro Tip: A huge bonus for this location is the parking! You can park for free after 3 PM at the S. Frontage Rd. East garage right nearby. I'll definitely be back!

The wildflower honey and salt biscuit had been living in my head for a year and definitely wanted to get that again. We started with the biscuit and the the hamachi crudo, which was prepared like ceviche and served over homemade sourdough. This was delicious!! So fresh and good seasoning - would've prepared the sourdough be sliced slightly thinner and crispier but it was delicious. For entrees, we split the bone in pork chop (sauce espagnole, sweet corn, red pepper, chimichurri) and Pommes Dauphinoise. Both were massive portions and more than enough for us to split. I personally didn't love the pork chop flavor but that was me - the corn reminded me of succotash which I'm not a huge fan of. However the pork was cooked really well and it was a beautiful plate. The potatoes were very rich and we ended up taking most of them as leftovers. Appetizers hit it out of the park for us and entree was solid! Really cute place in Carbondale.

Our experience at Meat & Cheese in Aspen was disappointing from beginning to end…read more To start with, the food was mediocre in every sense. The quality did not justify the prices, the flavors were forgettable, and nothing we ordered stood out. Unfortunately, what happened afterward was far worse. My wife accidentally left behind a shopping bag containing a brand new pair of sunglasses she had purchased earlier that day. When she returned to retrieve them, our interaction with a server named Carson was deeply disappointing. Instead of simply confirming ownership in a courteous and professional manner, Carson repeatedly questioned whether the sunglasses were actually hers. He kept emphasizing that they were brand new and worth around $600, making it clear that he found it difficult to believe they belonged to her. It was impossible not to feel that she was being judged based solely on her appearance. There is absolutely nothing wrong with verifying ownership of a valuable item. In fact, we appreciate businesses that take lost property seriously. What is unacceptable is allowing assumptions and stereotypes to influence how customers are treated. One lesson worth remembering is that genuine elegance and long established wealth rarely need to announce themselves. Those who have had the privilege of success across generations often feel no need to advertise it with designer logos or outward displays. True class is reflected in education, humility, confidence, and, above all, in the way people treat others. Ironically, Carson's assumptions said far more about his own judgment than they did about my wife. No customer should ever be made to feel that they need to "look wealthy" in order to be treated with respect. We hope management addresses this issue seriously. The mediocre food was forgettable. Being judged and treated with prejudice is not. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and dignity, regardless of how they are dressed or what assumptions someone chooses to make about them.
