I wanted to like this place. I really did. We went for lunch and ordered the heirloom tomatoes, chile relleno, quail, and sweet bites. Service was good and presentation was spectacular - true work of art. Unfortunately this was not reflected in the taste: Heirloom tomatoes - certainly fresh and good quality but that's it. Just tomatoes. The seasoning didn't add much to make it worth it's hefty cost Chile relleno - probably liked this the most since it was the most flavorful Quail - batter was that of a classic "fish and chips" type batter as opposed to the lightness of tempura. Tbh, quail is too small to eat gracefully in a fried form. The accompanying pickled veggies were too one dimensional - just sour. Not much else. I heard this was a Michelin guide restaurant, so I had to check it out during our trip to Aspen...even without my husband and son (out skiing!). As expected, the place was nice (located within a first-rate hotel, Little Nell), and the service was top notch...from start to finish. Surprisingly, I was able to slide right in without a reservation...and I loved the lofty space and the wide, open views from my seating area. Since this was an early lunch, I just ordered their Fettucini and one of their virgin libations, Gonzo. Even for lunch, they treated me to these delicious complimentary rolls. I will say that their lunch menu was quite skimpy...but in the end, this wasn't a problem. Well, the Fettuccini was Gorgeous...as in pure Food Art...and it tasted even better! It was this green-colored, Pesto flavored Fettuccini, and included these tasty Lardons (cubes of ham). I absolutely LOVED this dish. Really enjoyed the virgin drink, Gonzo, too. This was truly one of my favorite, leisure dining experiences in Aspen. Unlike most other places I've been to, the tables were laid out comfortably apart from others. NOT worthy of 5 Star/Forbes 5 Diamond Property. Husband & I have visited three times for brunch this summer. We've given it 3 chances because of the location hoping for a better experience after 1st two terrible experiences. Very low-quality food for obscene price. While we are the opposite of cheap, we were both starving after our tiny Huevos Rancheros and Breakfast Enchiladas. There is no way we could last until lunch with these little portions let alone have the energy to walk the Rio Grande. We were not looking to pig out. We just wanted a proper filling satisfying breakfast for morning energy. We were still so hungry that we ordered "poultry" sausage which was disgusting & supposed "Everything" bagels which tasted like generic "Nothing" plain stale bread rolls. Executive Chef can easily order high quality real NYC bagels from H&H Bagels wholesale. There is absolutely no reason to serve such a terrible excuse for a bagel. Not sure how the Little Nell keeps its 5 star/5 Forbes Diamond by serving such terrible food. Also, the seat of the booth we sat in was ripped (see pic). We felt like we were at Denny's. This is a pleasant restaurant in Aspen's most famous hotel. It's probably not quite as good as that description would suggest, but perfectly adequate. We had the five-course tasting menu, which was well presented, but without any real knockout courses, although there were tasty components in each. We also had both the sommelier and premium wine pairings. In each instance the premium wines were MUCH better. Service by the sommelier was friendly and informative. Food service was pretty slow, but the lovely outside summer dining area provided a pleasant venue to pass the time. Sat down at 6pm. Didn't get food until 7:10pm. The Caesar was not good. They had mackerel instead of the traditional anchovy. Why ruin a classic trying to be different? We left the fish pieces. Did not go well. Presentation was strange as well. My lobster pasta was too lemony and just meh. Kids burger was inedible. Steak was good. Service was good. Ambience was nice. We were able to combine two reservations and get a table for 9. It turned out that the whole menu was Pre Fixe and $150 pp plus expensive drinks. The price wasn't surprising given that it's Aspen proper. The restaurant seems to cater to the old rich and fancies itself as fine molecular dining. However, anyone who has been to Michelin star restaurants in places like NYC would immediately be able to tell that they're not at that level. Overall, the food was not bad, but it was just very small portions considering the price. I would try other places in town. read more

If you want a special and elegant dinner, Element 47 at the Little Nell is the place. It's definitely pricey when you visit for dinner as they only offer a prix fixe menu but everything is impeccable, from the service to the food. The room is beautiful, seating comfortable, and our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. The wine list is impressive and everything we tasted was delicious and beautifully presented. My husband especially enjoyed the Wagyu Tartare and the Hudson Valley Foie Gras. As for me, the highlights were the Charred Octopus and the Halibut, served with a light beurre blanc. For dessert, the Elements Of Citrus was very creative, like an abstract rendition of a key lime pie, full of flavor. But the Valrhona Chocolate Soufflé was served in a ramekin too small to really be as light as it should be, a little disappointing when you are used to the real decadent ones in France. Coming from Chicago, I always look for a bar that can whip up some amazing cocktails when traveling the world. This is the best place I have found in aspen as every cocktail has their own unique touch. Cocktails: - refreshing gin/vodka drinks that are uniquely crafted and taste delicious. A handful of drinks that are beautifully constructed, light, and super tasteful. - whiskey -- I have had a million old fashions and there is nothing that compares to Kyle's maple old fashion. I always hesitate to order an old fashion over $13 Bc I can usually make my own that will crush their own but this is not this does not apply at element 47. Kyle has made an amazing custom spice that elevates the old fashion to a world class level. Top competitor across Chicago, Japan, NYC. Service: what separates this place from the top contenders in some of the biggest/hottest cities in the world is the service. Service was great. Came here for Valentine's Day dinner. Was thrown off on why there was only two amuse bouches total for me and my date. There was only one oyster and another so I didn't get to try my date's amuse bouche. I'm used to having my own amuse bouche without having to share. Hamachi crudo was great! Loved how it paired with the caviar and the Le Gran Dame Veuve cliquot. I didn't care much for the celeriac root tortellini. Felt the tortellini skin was a bit thick. I thought the scallop dish was well executed and the wagyu was also cooked well. The red cake at the end was a bit too sweet for my taste so I couldn't eat much of it. At the end we were given what tasted like caramel fudge. It was quite soft and I was glad it was small because it was the usual fudge sweetness. This restaurant is inside Little Nell Hotel. It's a very nice posh hotel at the bottom of the ski lifts. We were greeting walking in and served right away. We came for breakfast because I love French toast. I can't remember what my husband ordered but it was delicious, but it didn't top my French toast. Probably the best French toast I've ever had, and I've traveled around the world and tried them all. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the Glenwood Springs or Aspen area. We had a superb breakfast here and would highly recommend visiting this place! We went here on a Sunday around 8:30am and it was almost empty (late September). You might be safe just walking in for breakfast if it's not skiing season. We opted to go with the menu rather than the buffet (even though the buffet looked good as well). We started off with zucchini cake as a compliment from the chef. Next we decided to go with the duck confit chilaquiles and the little nell omelette. Would highly recommend the duck!!! It was on the heavy side but very delicious. The omelette was ok but nothing special. For dessert we decided to share the almond brioche french toast and it was spectacular. Also the portion was very generous both in terms of berries and french toast. Finally I have to say the service was great and the outside tables would make a great atmosphere if the weather was warmer a bit. We've had one of the worst food experiences in Aspen at Element 47 last night. Upon check-in, the hostess asked for my husband's name, so he gave her his last name. From there on, everything was "please let me show you your table, Mr. H.", "are you enjoying the food, Mr. H." And so on. Meanwhile I (female, wife, mother) was going to take out the family for dinner and no one ever asked for my name (different last name, by the way) or if I (the one paying the bill) was enjoying the food. Which, in all honesty, I wasn't at all. The little appetizer that they brought to the table with "compliments from the chef, Mr. H." set the tone for a mediocre dining experience. There wasn't a variety in flavors, the fish tasted too fishy and the duck too gamey. Not enjoyable. At the end, the bill arrived and there were two extra charges for the desserts on it. I asked the waiter that I thought it was a Prix-fixe menu so why would we be charged for dessert and he said that he apologizes but he hit the wrong button on the register. VERY hard to believe that there would even be an extra button when the only menu option is Prix-fixe! It would have been an extra $38 and maybe the majority of the guests at the Little Nell don't check the bill so closely, but I would highly recommend making sure that you don't get charged extra. Overall, a highly unpleasant experience for a $300+ dinner. We ate at a place called "White House" in town the prior night and the food was amazing and the service highly pleasant. There are good places in town. Not sure why the presumably best hotel in town has such a mediocre restaurant. read more

My first meal in Aspen - ever! And wow! I definitely recommend Element 47 at the Little Nell when in Aspen Nothing on the menu disappointed. We had a lot of different plates to share family style, a highlight for me was the seafood dishes especially the Hawaiian Mero Bass with brussels, kuri squash, shitake, gigante beans, and the Black Bass with salsify, broccolini, mustard greens, ginger velouté. There were a lot of exquisite mushrooms throughout the night as well, I've never tasted such flavorful mushrooms! Chef @lucasgrocca is a master ‍ and the wait staff were impeccable! We enjoyed some excellent wines from Spain and France Seafood and wine are usually the healthiest choices if you are being health conscious while eating out. read more

We were visiting aspen for thanksgiving and decided to come here for thanksgiving dinner. They did a price fixed menu at $150 pp (which for the area isn't out of line but it's still pricy especially for what we received). Sadly, the experience was average at best. The restaurant is in a hotel, which is fine but the ambience itself is quite generic. The table settings were average. We had a reservation but had to wait almost 40 minutes before being seated after our reservation time which was a bit wild because we visibly saw open tables. We waited at the bar but their drink prices were definitely on the high side ($20 average for a cocktail but again, this is likely the norm for the area). The bar tenders were all incredibly lovely and they are worth a visit for sure (they provided great recommendations and tastes of things we were contemplating getting). The menu allowed us to choose a first, second and third course and then came with family style "thanksgiving" sides. The breads came out first and they were very disappointing. Cold buns and corn bread with some butter that had flower petals in it (please warm your breads and do a compound butter not just add flavorless decorations). Two of us had the salad for our first course (very good) and one person got the bisque (ok). Then our mains: one got the waygu (which was by far the best but also at a $15+ surcharge) , I got the salmon (average at best- I make salmon at home often and I probably do a better job to be honest), and then one got the Turkey - traditional thanksgiving (with mash and toasted veg) but the dish was VERY SALTY. The sides saved the mains - they were very homey and definitely left us stuffed but we did have to ask for more as we noticed a two top table got far larger portions than we received. Dessert we all got apple pie- it was very disappointing. Overly heavy cinnamon flavor and the ice cream was icy, not creamy and again the temperature of the pie itself was not hot. Overall, this place was very expensive and average at best, probably below average if I'm being honest (I've been to much nicer places in NYC and in Texas) but thankfully I didn't have to cook so that was a huge win for me on the holiday. read more

Ok, this place was just flat out disappointing. The tip off should have been that it was a hotel restaurant, but I thought we'd moved past that stereotype. Apparently not. Service was a major issue. Seated for 15 minutes before our server appeared to see about drinks. Wine was not poured until first course was being cleared from the table. Wine glasses not refilled leaving significant portions of the meal to be wine free. A la carte side dish completely omitted from main course (and subsequently removed from the bill). Lengthy period of being left completely alone following main courses leaving us to conclude a rapid exit rather than dessert was the wisest course. We did not have a spare two hours for dessert. Food was also not a great experience. The tartare was so salty as to be inedible - it was sent back. The Sourdough Rigatoni was a good, though not great dish. For mains both the Duck and Sea Bass were over cooked. By that point we were beyond sending things back and chalking the meal up to an error of judgement. The wine list is huge and I suppose one of those instances where the owner thought size was important. While there were many fine bottles on the list the size of the list could not overcome the inadequacy of the overall experience. It turns out size wasn't important and they should have focused on quality of restaurant instead of quantity of wine. read more

Order gnocchi for a group of 6 and received 10 pieces with some odd looking vegetables for $32 absolutely ridiculous. Would not have been enough for 1 person. Spring Salad was $28 and the portion could fit in the palm of my hand and was only given to 1 person. Not to mention cocktails were served roughly 35 minutes after they were ordered. I would be embarrassed if I was the owner of this establishment. Piss pour EVERYTHING. I would recommend any other restaurant in the area. This place will never have my business again. Located in the Little Nell hotel at the base of Aspen Mountain, this upscale modern French restaurant is worth a visit. It deserves a 4.5 star rating. From the cheese cart brought table-side, to the buttery salt topped fresh baked bread delivered in a skillet, this place has a lot to offer, albeit with a large price tag. The egg yolk infused ravioli was about as rich as a dish can be, but was bursting with flavor. The presentation of the poached lobster was a change of pace. They dispensed with displaying the tail on its shell, and instead, removed it and placed two small de-shelled claws on both sides of it. A much more appetizing way to present what looks like a giant sea bug. The sommelier looked like a teenager, but knew his stuff. The wine list is extensive, and includes some nice half bottles. The deconstructed banana cream pie with house made ice cream was the perfect ending to an excellent meal. read more
