I love this place. After a Not So Good service issue a few weeks ago we are back. Why? Cuz the food is really good here and we have Loved this place for so many years. And tonight was really good once again. Salad Tempranillo and Cesar rocked. The paella marisco was awesome as was the capellini with arugula and shrimps. I am giving you 4 stars because your food and atmosphere was AMAZING. You lost a star because Sabina was absolutely awful to us. Coming all the way from Vail, we may not be the regular Aspen goers you receive in your restaurant but our men were really excited to take us out to a nice dinner after a long week of working in Aspen. First she didn't introduce herself, (got her name off our ticket) rambled off specials so fast all we heard was lamb shank then someone at the table asked what beer was on tap, she responded "yep on the wine list if you read it". Please note we had ONE wine list to 7 of us. I had it at the other end of the common table. Passed it down, read it and ordered all while she stood there waiting. (You could of told him) Ok, moving on.. we got our food and it was so delicious I don't think anyone took a breath. Sitting there for about 45 min after our food was delivered we had our empty plates and wine glasses in front of us, just waiting to be asked if we would like another glass or dessert, she was sitting at the bar watching hockey then she came about and said check? Sure, I guess, we can go somewhere else for dessert and another glass of wine. As we were on a business dinner splitting the check was very important. We asked if that was ok, and she laughed and said it's doubtful. Ummm thanks? CHERRY ON TOP. Luckily she split the checks and we were out of there! No thank you for coming, no have a nice night. I honestly think the bartender saw what was going on so when we left, we received a very genuine smile and a thank you for coming in, have a great night. Finding an authentic Spanish Tapas Bar in the middle of Basalt was quite the unexpected surprise. Our meal was lunch. We ordered the daily specials; 1. Authentic Parma ham wrapped giant sea scallops on a bed of mashed sweet potatoes garnished with seared scallions. 2. Chunky Ahi Tuna marinated with pickled peppers & onions garnished with the same seared scallions 3. Lobster Ravioli 4. Wedge potatoes seared with butter and enveloped with spicy marinara and Spanish white cheese. Our thirsts were slaked with homemade MiCheladas. Service was superb and timely. The main reason I am writing this review is because although I have enjoyed this restaurant over the years, last night we had an interesting experience and I am quite shocked with how they handled it. My sister ended up severely choking on a bone in her salmon fillet. Our waiter even acknowledged that he had never had anyone find a bone in one of their fillets. I was in the bathroom with her for 15 minutes, and she was unable to finish her meal. Her husband found one more bone in the fillet and showed it to our waiter. And yet, when they brought us the bill, they charged us for her entrée. And at no time did they even apologize to her. This is shocking to me as someone who has been in customer service my entire life. read more

Wow. What an unexpected find in Basalt, Colorado. The beautifully restored hotel has an amazing restaurant open for lunch and dinner. A summer lunch on the cool veranda can't be beat. The menu had a wide variety of well thought through Spanish and Italian meals. The beer list was perfect and they even had cold Paulaner Pils on draft. Visiting Basalt from Denver with my mother wanting a nice dinner for the night. Immediately as we walk in we are confronted by the staff and forced to leave. Never asking once if we had a reservation just assumed we didn't belong. As we're leaving the owner confronts us speaking Spanish (assuming we speak Spanish...I only speak English) trying to tell us he's Hispanic too. So you notice the color of our skin? Historically one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. And I've been vocal about that to anyone who'd listen over the years. Today, however, I was rushed off so the staff could siesta. They claimed, after I had already ordered my first/main tapas, that the kitchen could no longer send anything more out. Why? The "hot water" heater was broken. But I just wanted a manchego plate??? Maybe a little jamon to boot?? And another drink? Then, after I reluctantly paid my bill before really wanting to leave, it was picked up by the server literally moments after signing. Message was clear: clear the heck out of here, NOW!!! To ownership: check your afternoon shift for 10/8/2020. And then make some personnel changes. I will not risk recommending you to anyone out of fear they'll suffer the same abuse as I did today. And I'll be looking for an "under new management" banner before seriously considering a return. So, so disappointed. (Oh, and others were turned away while I was seated - beginning probably at 2p! I live in Basalt, and have frequently made the mistake of forgetting quite how disgusting the service at Tempranillo is. Not 'can be' - IS. They are consistently rude to their customers. I have to say the tapas are pretty good. Their beer selection is small but well-chosen. After my last experience dining there I decided to publish my comments in the hopes that someone will fix what could be one of our favorite places to eat close-to-home. My wife and I arrived on the early side of dinner (5:30-6:00) and sat at the bar - I ordered an expensive foreign draft beer and some tapas. The bartender was curt, rude, and made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived (despite the fact that the restaurant was essentially empty). She poured a glass filled top-to-bottom with foam, and I was told that I'd have to wait for my beer because it was the first pour of the day and she wanted to wait for all the foam in the glass to 'settle'. While it's true that one waits for a Guinness to settle, I've never been asked to wait for the foamy beer that has warmed in over-temperature, uninsulated draft lines to 'settle', only to have it topped up with more foamy, too-warm beer. I have sold beer and cleaned tap lines - having worked in beer sales, I politely requested that she pour me a fresh beer. The server said something about not liking to 'waste good beer' and put the warm foamy beer into a pitcher, which she then put over ice behind the bar, (to pour and serve to the next unsuspecting patron unfortunate enough to order the same type of beer?) and treated us with thinly-veiled disdain and various degrees of hostility Throughout our meal we felt various degrees of hostility from the bartender, other servers. Food was fine, but the service has always left us with such a bad taste in my mouth that I will never set foot in that place again until they change ownership. read more

Despite the food being delicious, the service is AWFUL. The first time I went there, I had to leave earlier than my group so I found my server and requested to pay my portion of the tab. He got very upset and proceeded to lecture me on how it's inconvenient for him to do it. I felt so incredibly bad, but had no other option as I had to leave. Then last night...we had a large group, granted, but when we didn't receive a dish we had ordered to our table, we politely let the staff know... who ended up being the wife of the owner. She then went to her husband to tell him we were "complaining" even though we had not gotten the food we ordered. He then comes over and starts raising his voice and dropped the f-bomb at us. With his cursing, he said we should not complain as "HE'S DOING US A FAVOR" by having 50% off for ladies night. Needless to say... we're finding another place to go out. read more

Don't waste your time here. If there was a zero or negative star option, I'd give negative stars. The food was ok, but the horrible service makes this a place that I will never visit again. Nobody there cares that you are giving them your business. I wish I had read the reviews before going here as I expereinced the same attitude that Eileen expereinced where the entire staff is completely unattentive and could care less that you are there. Even when attempting to say something to an employee about how terrible the service was while leaving we were told that they "don't really have a manager" and acted like they could care less that we were less than pleased with the service. In nice weather, the outdoor dining area is lovely, and inside is very pleasant as well with tables spaced generously. Whether ordering tapas or full entrees, I have always been more than impressed with the excellent and imaginative menu selection. My wife and I went there for our anniversary dinner and ended up, in a room empty at 5:45 except for our selves (which we prefer) in the middle of a rock and roll concert provided by the recorded music (which ruins the dinner). The tragically hip never showed up, waiting for the results of their blood tests, no doubt, but we were obliged to endure the conversation-killing noise. I'm sure the bartender's too, too hip friends showed up hours later "grooving" on the noise we were obliged to endure. This place is very nice. The service is very slow if you sit on the patio, so plan on about an hour and a half for dinner. The food was delicious, we had fried artichoke hearts, truffle fries with Parmesan, and a couple of different pasta dishes. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate mousse and the crème brûlée. The appetizers and entrées were an A+, the dessert was B minus.It was a great atmosphere, the lighting on the patio was beautiful, and very friendly service. We did hear the table next to us get the wrong drink from the bar, and the server argued with them. We didn't say anything, but we distinctly remember the lady at the table noticing the server was probably going to get the drink wrong and was very careful to spell out exactly what she wanted, and he still brought the wrong thing. I think he was just rushed. We had no other problems that night, and even that couple seemed OK after they got it fixed. We did notice that the restaurant called Heather's just across the street had live music that night, and their music was quite loud. It was interfering with the music playing over the speakers at this establishment and it was a bit jarring. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant, with great outside seating, in a pleasant Basalt location. Obviously a lot of effort has gone into this place. So it astounds me that they allowed our visit to be ruined by perhaps the worst waitress I've ever encountered. Do the owners not place a priority on service, or are they simply too enchanted with their old-world concept to put themselves in the customer's shoes?* Much of the food was 3- or 4-star worthy, and the wine list was nice. If we'd gotten any acknowledgment from the owners, who were both right there in the same room with us, it would have made a big difference. But when (for only the second time in my life) I complained about the waitress to them, I received no apology, no "We hope you'll come back." and certainly no "Here's a gift certificate for your next visit." So it's doubtful there will be a next visit. *Apparently the waitstaff (not the bartender) was responsible for pulling espresso shots . What we were served after our meal was unbelievable. My husband had to track down another waitress and beg for a regular cuppa Joe. Our 3rd Christmas dinner here was a disaster. We never felt any connection with the restaurant or the staff as it would seem we meant nothing to any of them. The 6 of us came to our table only to notice a 2-top table jammed 6-7 inches from our table making it almost impossible to get seated or leave the table. Our waitress appeared to care less about our being there. Some drinks were not delivered, we were seldom checked in on and generally felt uncomfortable being there. Would have expected a heck of a lot more personal attention and appreciation for our $414 tab! This place also makes their waiters bus tables and sweep up the floor before taking care if active customers. Bad noisy scene. Food is average at best. Wine list is grossly overpriced. Too many great food choices in the Roaring Fork Valley for us to spend another buck at this spot. read more

A few minor glitches, but the food was phenomenal. Gluten free pasta with spicy chorizo in vodka sauce is incredible. Our server wasn't bad, but I did get hints of what previous reviewers mention with regard to feeling marginalized. I think it must be the touristy nature of most of their business. I will say large tables of older folks got more attention. In fact, it was an older friend and colleague that recommended this place, which she's over the moon for. I'd recommend a seat inside, as well. The patio is nice, but chilly, and there are even seats on the small, fenced-in lawn, but stray cats will approach you, and loud diners will necessitate you raising your own voice just for sound to reach your she-beau across the small table. I don't think it's fair, really, to dock stars for feral animals or obnoxious patrons, though. And I'm fine sipping old fashioneds and staring at my girl. She really is breathtaking. Went to Tempranillo solo on a Friday evening and completely enjoyed all that I ordered. I was quickly seated as I arrived earlier in the evening to avoid a crowd. Bread and water were delivered promptly and all was well. Sabina (the waitress) suggested a fantastic wine based on my personal preferences and I also took her suggestions on the most desirable tapas based on size and quantity. The tuna tartar was light and delicious as was the Spanish style Gazpacho. The mussels in a lemon cream sauce were also wonderful. All paired well with the bottle of Albariño that I ordered. All in all, the service and the food were excellent. Big mistake and no apologies. The food and atmosphere is what we expected. We sat outside on a beautiful evening with goaod food and nice wine. The waitress asked a lot of questions as one person in our party explained she was allergic to shrimp, lobster, and shell fish that turns pink when cooked. She felt comfortable ordering the paella withou shrimp. When we began eating, and our guest started she noticed shrimp mixed in with the paella. Fortunately, she did not react. As we finished our meal, she got hers. This was very disappointing as the server was very careful about the order. She questioned our guest to see if she was sure the shrimp came from her dish. We were disappointed that the staff showed no concern nor did they offer anything to make up for what could have been a costly error. read more

i give this place a negative 5 star! the customer service was horrible ; the waitress that served us was very unprofessional through out the dinner we noticed the bad service but continued to give her the benefit of the doubt. First we waited over an hour for our food and about 35 mins just for our drinks, my grandma's food was cold , she would spill water as she would pour into our glasses just little things that kept showing bad customer service. And to top it all off when we we're getting ready to pay we weren't being shown everything that would be charged on our card and she charged over $100+ then what the tab originally was she then continued to ask my husband why there was no tip on the receipt when we left it in cash on the table but it was very odd for her to ask as if WE NEED TO LEAVE A TIP! it started an argument and she even threatened to charge my card even though it was already signed by my husband then her other co-worker got involved she tried to say the waitress never said that even though my whole family heard her loud & clear. The other waitress that involved herself was even more unprofessional & still yelled at us and continued to tell us "if we can't afford it not to eat there" when she wasn't even aware of the situation and just kept being disrespectful. Gosh this place should be awesome! The food really is awesome! BUT, service is seriously beyond rude... our server sabina (/ sabrina?) was just cold and rude. We were there tonight with a party of 8 - a few lived in Aspen, a few from Denver and a few from Chicago. It was a huge inconvenience to order wine (and her reco was non existent - one option out of 20-30 or more on the wine list) .. how many glasses do you need was a major eye rolling question by her when we were counting. We wanted to order some tapas first and that wasn't ok - we had to place it all at the same time. Tried to substitute something that was on phase 4 of food rotation we were on phase 2, but that wasn't possible, she claimed it was in the oven already. No plates on the table for the different tapas - that was an annoyance to her. Just overall BAD service. read more

He was rude and aggressive after we asked for another table so that we could sit next to each other in our anniversary. There was literally nobody else in the restaurant except for wait staff.
