When I say the proteins were over charred, I mean that's all I tasted on the exterior, just burnt dirty ash. For a place of this caliber and price, I expect execution to be on point. Also everything was borderline too salty. Notes: I really wanted to like this place more than I did. This place was a bit of a letdown I'm sad to say. Factor in price and execution and I've gotta give this place 3/5.

Prepared with citrus ponzu, serrano and garlic chili crunch, the Sea Bass Crudo is definitely refreshing with a bit of a kick! Looking for a shareable seafood type appetizer? Then you should absolutely try this out! Streak Frites This one felt like it would be a nice balanced healthy lunch. Marinated steak with bourbon peppercorn sauce sitting on a bed of fries featuring a nice portion of salad. Had the steak cooked medium and it was just perfect. I wouldn't mind ordering this dish again! Work nearby and want a balance of everything? Then this is the dish for you! Braised Short Rib Probably my favorite one. Meat easily melts in every bite. Paired with those whipped potatoes beneath? Forget it! It may seem like a small dish but it gets filling pretty quick. I think this is another dish I'll be ordering the next time we visit! Peach Butter Cake (Dessert) I seem to have found myself in trouble when taking that first initial bite because I couldn't stop myself indulging its rich flavor! I was already full at this point but this was too damn delicious. It's got the same concept of a pizookie and I'm a sucker for this type of dessert! Love pizookies? Peach jam? Then you should get this! Guarantee you'll have it all to yourself! OVERALL Actually glad we were able to try this place out as I just stumbled upon it a couple months before. Great establishment for dates, small hangouts, big parties or an after work dinner. Spacious interior with comfy seatings and a modern look to the place. I've never been in such an absurd situation--leave comfortable, shaded, air conditioned room and into misery. I was so embarrassed to put my friends through this and hope the manager at Zov's can learn some common sense.

I went to this cute little café with my husband last Saturday night and the place was packed! I didn't know they take reservations because I could not get a seat inside. The person at the counter told me that the party of 20+ people who took over the whole space just gave notice a few days in advance that they were coming, so they had to make accommodations. There were not even seats at the windows. Though it felt kind of chilly out, they did have heaters and the outside ambiance with candles were romantic. So we didn't mind. We were even lucky to get a seat right next to the beautifully lighted fountain (mind you that the outside seating was full as well). I ordered a Freesoul Salad which consisted of garbanzo beans, Kalamata olives, organic grape tomatoes, hearts of palm, and vegan feta cheese. The salad was a very generous portion which I cannot finish alone. It came with a wonderfully toasted side of batard bread and vegan butter. Now, the vegan feta cheese was amazing and I cannot believe vegan cheese can taste so good, without the overpowering and artificial taste like other vegan cheese available in the market. I had to ask one of the server where I can buy this if it was at all possible. The server told me that the vegan feta was made in-house in which they soak the blanched almond overnight and then mix it with rosemary, thyme, lemon juice and seasoning and baked them over very low heat. Wow, that explains the amazing, natural flavors and exceptional quality of food. I do some cooking myself and believe me, blanched almond or any forms of nuts used to make vegan cheese are very expensive ingredients. My husband had a Panini Caprese (hummus and pesto spread with roasted yellow and red peppers, sundried tomatoes, fresh basil, Roma tomatoes, and organic baby spinach). This Panini was huge and came with a wonderfully dressed organic baby spinach salad with Kalamata olives, super sweet grape tomatoes and candied pecan. I took a bite out of his Panini and I got to tell you, this was the best (vegan or not) Panini I've had in a long time. Very high quality and organic ingredients do make a huge difference in the wholesomeness of our meal. For dessert, we both shared a pumpkin pecan cake with sour cream ganache. The pumpkin cake was super moist and the flavor blended perfectly well with the chocolate ganache. Thanks to a friend of ours who have been raving about this place, the drive from LA was so worth it... great night, great food and great ambiance. This spot is quickly becoming one of our favorite places to visit the next time we're in the OC. read more

My sister told us to check this business out, so we did. It's in Old Town Tustin, and we were able to park at a lot nearby, but you can also park on the street if you're lucky. The restaurant itself is quite nice--modern, open, and friendly. If you want to dine outdoors, there's also a terrace. I got my mom the soup of the day, which was mushroom. It was simple to choose since she likes soup. I chose the usual size, and there was a lot of food (they also had a half size). My mom is quite picky, and if she doesn't like anything, you'll know right away. At first, the soup didn't appear so great, but she ate the whole bowl, which says all you need to know. I got the chicken panini and shared it with my mom. It had a salad on the side. And to be honest, it tasted extremely wonderful even if it wasn't "real" chicken. I probably wouldn't have noticed the difference if I hadn't known it was vegan. I ordered an iced coffee for myself and a ginger apple drink for my mom. She seemed to like it. That iced coffee was really good; it was almost like a slushy and was quite refreshing. We went there with some friends, and it seemed like everyone liked their dinner. One of my friends got a hamburger. The patties certainly looked extremely... vegan-y (not sure if that's a legitimate term, but you get the idea). You could tell it wasn't meat. She felt it was simply alright, but after eating a piece of her mom's Caprese panini, she stated it was much better than her own. Then it was time for dessert, and sure, we ordered four of them. It's apparent that this gang loves sweets. We had red velvet cake, peanut butter cheesecake, key lime pie, and coconut cake. I really liked the key lime pie and the coconut cake. The dessert servings are little, but not too small. They're just right for sharing at the table. The service was wonderful. You sit down, and a waiter or waitress approaches to collect your order. The guy who assisted us was incredibly kind and paid attention to us the whole time we ate. My sister told me they had great pizzas, but I guess you can't get them till after 5 p.m. Would I go back? I'm not a vegan at all, but the meal was very excellent. I don't think I'd be a regular, but I may come back at least once more just to sample those pizzas. read more

My parents and I went out to dinner at this newly renovated vegan restaurant in Tustin earlier tonight. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and the foods were outstanding to say the least. We had been here many times before, and not once were we ever disappointed with the place, the food, the service, its staff or management. So most, if not all, of the negative reviews that I've read here are completely unfair and downright untrue. We absolutely love Freesoul's new look. It just seems even classier and more elegant, while still keeping its usual charming, romantic, cozy and warm ambiance. This restaurant is simply awesome and, in my honest estimation, one of the very best in Southern California. We ordered a Panini Frittata (vegan scrambled egg sandwich), Freesoulini and Marinara pastas. Those were our main course. For appetizers, we had Sautéed Green Beans & Charred Brussels Sprouts. Our palates were utmost grateful for the foods were way beyond our expectation. Everything was so tasty and satisfying. As vegans, we're absolutely grateful that this lovely restaurant exists at all, let alone it being so close to where we all live. It offers exceptional vegan dishes at such affordable prices. Even if you were a non-vegan, I'm certain that you would enjoy the food here just as much as any other places. Freesoulcaffe is easily one of my most favorite restaurants. Period. Every time I have guests from out-of-town, I always take them here. Atmosphere cool hip with a touch of rustic!! Food average not super flavorful nor creative but all vegan. I have had definitely better places. We had the soup decent it was carrot lentil, fettuccine little dry not as saucy and creamy as it should, gnocchi was good and fluffy and delicious mushrooms. Panini good not super flavorful had the tomatoes with a pesto I think it was okay. I had an off menu vietnamese drink they stated it was strong but tasted like crap. it would be something you give someone who has had food poisoning and needs to drink this to continue getting the toxic food out of system, it's that bad!!! I sent it back but they charged me for it, this just makes me know they are not a good restaurant that shows exceptional customer service, they don't even say sorry she said told you so. I said you told me snip it of the drink and said it was good, well I rather drink Chlorine lol. I don't think they really described how it would taste like but it was the worst drink I have ever had close to a durian shake comparison!!! Would i come back, not at all!!! This cozy place offered up some good stuff. It wasn't the typical walk in walk out cafe spot. Also the desserts all looked good, but I limited this trip to two. This is the rundown Earth Salad: 4 - the salad was fresh and light. topped with artichoke, which i love, made it even better. Portabello mushroom Soup: 4 - this soup was thick and full of mushrooms. it was good, but wish it had a bit more flavor to it, but that's the nature of mushrooms as their flavor isn't intense. also note that the soup was HUGE. Pumpkin Pie: 3 - the crust was crunchy, and the pie soft and nutty. there wasn't much pumpkin flavor to it though which could be because of it's small size. Green Tea Cupcake: 5 - this was insanely good and better than i expected. i didn't even want to order this originally but was convinced and was worth it. cake was moist, frosting was sweet, the nuts were a nice crunch read more

I love coming here. My family and I come here about 1-2 times a month. I love there new "egg" sandwich (not sure what the actual name is but just ask the cashier for it). It tastes really good. My husband and kids love the BLT sandwich and their mushroom and butternut soup. I don't understand why people are complaining on yelp about not being able to study here. Don't come here if you are planning on studying- the library is down the street. Just because it's called a "caffe", it doesn't mean you should buy a cup of coffee and nurse it for 4 hours while you work on your computer (even if there is no one else in the place). It is a cafe/restaurant where you order food and drinks, sit down, enjoy your meal, socialize for a bit and go home. They DO serve food so I would imagine that others might want to sit down and enjoy their meal too. Enjoy!! read more

Food: I've worked by Freesoulcaffe since they opened in this location. I tried them many moons ago when their menu was still small and being developed. It's been years since I've tried them again (only because I'm not a huge sweets/coffee person). Now they they have a full menu, that's vegan to boot, I had to try! Came with my cousin for lunch and was not disappointed! I got the truffle burger and it was delicious. Granted this isn't like one of those burgers where you think you're eating meat. Regardless though, the truffle mushroom melody with a bouncy bun and light salad on the side was perfect, filling and delicious. Definitely looking to make this a more routine lunch stop! My friend and I each ordered one drink. The patio section was mostly full, but there were only 2 people inside. We were meeting to talk about a book we were writing. We each had a notebook out and a pen to jot down notes. Nothing else. About 30 min later, after we finished our drinks, a waiter came out and asked if we wanted something else. Planning on leaving soon, we said no. "Oh, well if you are not going to order anything else, I'm going to have to ask you to leave." "But we did buy something." "Yes, but we have a no studying policy." "We aren't studying. We are talking." "You have to order something else, or you have to leave." What is to not like We were there to look at some soccer on a thursday night and it absolutely was not-too crowded, but there were some truly loud talkers and folks screaming as they performed LCR (cube game)... I love LCR, but don't need to have somebody screaming in my own ear for 30-minutes right about this. But, their jukebox (frozen in time at 1974) performed all kinds of classic rock from the sixties around 1974 was a nice diversion from the screaming going on. Maybe I am just getting too old Anyhow, can come back and definitely try the hamburger that everybody brags about. I LOVE this restaurant! All of their food is fantastic and their portions are very generous. The Panini Portobello is amazing and their Earth Salad is also fantastic. I've been here quite a few times so far and have loved everything I tried. If you're going with a friend, consider sharing a sandwich and a soup - the portions are large enough - and then get a yummy dessert! The patio is charming and it is covered and has heat lamps, so regardless of the weather you can enjoy outdoor dining. What a disappointment for a place that projects itself as being spiritual. (1) The new BENCH seating is like a prison, Who's idea was that? (2) Rude and indifferent employees. (3) The prices keep going up and the portions keep shrinking. They used to serve a piece of bread THREE times what they now serve (when the first opened). Just tried their Potato Pizza tonight and it was really good. Their crust was chewy and light which I appreciate. If my friend did not recommend me getting this pizza, I would have never thought potato can taste so good on a pizza. Besides the potato, it had feta and rosemary which gives it such nice aroma. The ambiance inside is loft-brick style chic - very well designed. They have a wide range of teas and coffees, and outstanding bake goods. When I don't have time to cook for my family, I always take them to Freesoul. I love the foods here. Everything is fresh and healthy. i usually order the BLT, freesoulini pasta and potato pizza. I have tried many restaurant even ones in LA, but nothing could compare to this. The waiter and waitress at this place are so polite. They always say "thank you" and "have a nice day". Freesoulcaffe is a very good casual restaurant serving plant based food. Most menu items are tasty, but small portioned. This makes makes it somewhat expensive for big eaters to leave feeling satisfied. I usually order at least two entriees but many may find a single entree spot on. I particularly like their pastas, burgers, and the portobello panini. They have indoor and outdoor seating and an attentive staff. read more

We had a wonderful experience! The service was friendly, and the environment was lovely, especially the outdoor seating. I had the Hatch Burger, which had just the right amount of spice. The agave lemonade was lightly sweet and refreshing. The pizza had a yummy, fluffy crust, and the gnocchi was pillowy and absolutely delicious. First of all I am a meat eater. I love steaks, chops, ribs, roasts and especially prime rib. However I came across this place on Yelp and decided to try it with a coworker and his friend. Got the breakfast sandwich and it was pretty good! I'm personally not vegan and don't eat vegan food regularly. But it was still good. Recommend the sandwich!
