I'm not vegan, but this place has completely won me over. The food is so good that I honestly don't miss the meat. We always order the beer-battered tacos, purple taquitos, and the Brussels sprouts--they're all incredible. The jackfruit is top-notch and absolutely shines in the nachos. The outdoor patio is beautiful, the indoor décor is warm and inviting, and the whole restaurant feels like a welcoming community rather than just somewhere to eat. Been on a vegan-food binge lately and decided to give this place a try with my coworker. First of all, love the simple and artistic layout of the outdoor seating, we had a lovely view of the sunset. We started off with the fries and roasted brusselsprouts, a great suggestion from Tanner, our server. I ordered a Passionfruit Tea and added their agave sweetener, I loved how delicate the agave was and the tea was super refreshing. In terms of main dish I went with the So Cal Crunchwrap, and it was so light, but delicious! My coworker ended up ordering the Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese and it was also delightful with how gentle the tomato flavor was with the sandwiches. Some people have a preconceived distaste for vegan/vegetarian food... admittedly myself included (at times). Shame one me. The food here is amazing. The flavors of my Warm Cauliflower Salad - phenomenal. Roasted cauliflower has yet to fail me anywhere and my salad was so fresh and SAVORY. It was also huge so I took leftovers. Surprisingly still a delicious salad the next day. Tofu, arugula, lots of nuts and chili oil, pickled peppers, roasted cauliflower... yum. Grilled Mushroom Taco - I had higher expectations for but it was OK. My friends got the Taquitos... amazing as well. I will be ordering that next time! All the dishes are surprisingly very filling. I love Seabird's and am glad it's still around. Grilled Cheese & Tomato soup is an OG favorite of mine. I remember coming maybe 10 or so years ago, newly vegan, trying the grilled cheese- and having to stop and ask a staff member if Seabird's was fully vegan (I was worried the grilled cheese had dairy cheese because it was so mouthwateringly delicious)- it was and still is fully vegan. 10/10 recommend the grilled cheese!!! I got an email about The Porque Maria being a weekend special this weekend only so had to try it! Sadly I was disappointed. The arugula overpowered the rest of the features I was looking forward to. I wouldn't get it again. My fiance got the BBQ Burger and enjoyed it, a was pleasantly surprised by the battered red onions inside! I had a bite too, yum! We opted for outside seating since we were hoping for sun, but the patio was mostly shady at the time of day we went. Our server kindly turned the heater on for us and even let us move closer to it. I have been back since my original review but didn't think about updating my review until now. I am sticking with my 4-star review. Today we started with Brussels Sprouts. Those were good. We also ordered the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup, a couple of Beets Me Burgers, and the Breakfast Burrito. Before ordering we were notified that the Pancakes (which sounded so good) and Waffles were not available. Everyone with us has had the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup combo and was raving about it before ordering. Unfortunately, once it arrived, everyone thought that it was not one of the better grilled cheeses they had, noting that the pesto might have been different/not as good as it usually is. Unfortunately the Long Beach location closed, so when we have the chance and happen to be in the area we try and make a stop here. The food is all really good and they have beautiful presentation. I recommend all the food we got (Beets Me Burger, Zippy Fries, Purple Taquitos, and the Butternut Squash Enchiladas) and while not necessarily cheap, I still feel like their prices are very reasonable. They present their food so well that it looks a lot more expensive than it actually is. The staff is personable and they really make coming here an enjoyable experience. Seabirds is located in a super cool and unique shopping center with other fun little shops to check out. Beyond the standouts I mentioned in my last review, you absolutely can't go wrong with the Caesar salad (add the grilled tofu), the adobo jackfruit taco, or the SoCal Crunch Wrap. Ermagherd. On a Tuesday afternoon at 6pm, my friend and I walked right in. The outside was bright without being ostentatiously sunny, and perfectly weathered - not too hot, not too cold. There were folks indoors, presumably trying to escape the rays of sun that we too were trying to avoid by sitting on the same side of the bench outside. Our waiter was delightful and helpful and efficient. Nook had sadly closed at 6pm so the first order of business was some caffeine. The matcha strawberry with oat milk did not disappoint. We also loved the purple potato taquito, the mushroom taco, socal crunch wrap, and the chaffle. I was impressed with the burst of flavor in each bite. I would get all of these options again, but seeing how delicious these were I am intrigued by the rest of the menu. My sister and I decided to grab a quick bite at Seabirds after spending the afternoon walking around and shopping at The LAB Anti-Mall. Since it's a vegetarian restaurant, I was excited to give it a try, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. We ordered three different tacos, and they were all delicious. This area is absolutely gorgeous! There's an outdoor and indoor seating area (outdoor is significantly better and feels more private honestly.) If you get cold easily, you're in luck as they have outdoor heaters that are turned on upon request. The service here is always great. We're never bombarded with questions here. Every time I go here, it's always a nice calm experience. The hostess was kind and our server was helpful, to the point, and friendly. The food left a bit more to be desired unfortunately. For a BBQ burger, I barely tasted the sauce. That ketchup for the fries though? Sweet mother of mercy that's probably some of the best ketchup I've had. Combining it with the burger certainly helped but the patty needed a tad more seasoning. Overall, cute place with good food! The parking here is nonexistent so be prepared for that frustration. I got excited when i saw Belgium style & I thought they were going to be larger & fluffier. Still good but mot quite what I was expecting -avocado taco, ugh FIVE stars. Shoot how about ten! This taco is my favorite. The sauce alone, I had to ask for more...& more because it's so yummy & spicy & creamy (& no milk or cheese which is crazy?! Like how???) The fluffiness of the taco is unreal, the batter is just so decadent. So I'm not vegan. I would never come here as a first choice. I came here to celebrate my friends birthday. So my taste buds might be a little different. We came to Seabirds in Costa Mesa for a birthday celebration and overall I thought it was a good experience. I'll be honest, I love meat and wouldn't normally go out of my way for a vegan spot, but I have a couple of vegan friends who were excited to come here and I left pleasantly surprised. Service is the reason I'm knocking off one star. Our server, Lindsay, just wasn't giving the energy or attentiveness you'd expect, especially for a celebration. Maybe she was having a bad day, but it was a little early in the day for that vibe. Napkins and water are two simple details I always pay attention to, and they weren't handled well here. The girl who actually brought out the food, I don't know her name, was happy and bubbly, so it made the difference with Lindsay even more noticeable. By the time we were wrapping up and Lindsay asked if we had room for dessert, I was already ready for the check. The timing and lack of attentiveness just made me want to take my business elsewhere at that point. As for the food, it was definitely worth trying. The fried pickles were delicious and probably my favorite bite of the day. The banana bread was also really good, and the tacos had great flavor even if they came out more medium warm than hot. Everyone at the table finished their plates, which is always a good sign, and my vegan friends were really happy with the meal. For vegan food I'd even call it delicious, though for my personal taste I felt like something was missing. That's just me being used to meat, but I could appreciate the effort and flavor. Parking was fine, though there is construction going on around the area right now. It makes the aesthetic a little hard to appreciate since you are not sure what's permanent and what's in progress. Once that clears up I think the whole area will look much nicer. Still, the location is good with plenty to do nearby if you want to make a day of it. Overall I think Seabirds is a solid option if you're vegan or bringing vegan friends. The food is thoughtful and worth trying, the atmosphere has potential once the construction is over, and it's a spot where you can relax and enjoy something different. The service could use improvement, and hopefully my experience with Lindsay was just an off day, but it was noticeable enough to mention. I have previously been to Seabirds for weekend brunch, so this was my first time eating from the dinner menu! We were sat quickly and the vibe inside was great. I was able to have the Quesa Birria taco and it was AMAZING. 10/10 no notes. As someone who grew up with a Mexican mom who makes great food, I typically don't eat Mexican food out a lot. But let me tell you these quesa birria tacos are IT!!! The crunch of the taco with the consommé was perfect. The salsa it came with was perfectly spicy as well. Now in love with Seabirds! My boyfriend and I officially dubbed Seabirds as our "unofficial restaurant" lol. Long story short -- our first time meeting was at a coffee shop, but Seabirds was our first official "First Date." That evening was such a wonderful memory and even this time going with him as his girlfriend two months later... it was still a wonderful time and adding to my mind as good memories. On our "first date" -- I had the pesto pasta dish and even though dinner made us very full, another table near us ordered the Chaffle. It smelled so good and I love the smell and taste if cinnamon. As a result this time for a brunch date -- we ordered Chaffles for dessert! Huzzah!!! The Chaffle definitely did please the sensual smell buds of my initial foodie moment those two months ago! Not super spicy, but a delightful mini-kick adding an oomph! The texture of the burger patty was awesome! It was like a real burger. The sauce and pickles enhanced it. Wish there was a bit more sauce. Overall, yum! The only drag was by 11:30am they were out of coffee. But to make up for it, they let me get coffee from next door -- Good Town Doughnuts.
