One of the most memorable pizzas I've had in some time. Their artichoke and white sauce pizza was so indulgent in the best way possible! They use imported Italian flour for their pizzas (not pastas though) and that gives the pizza base that airiness that American flour doesn't achieve. The avocado pizza was also good - a bit more like a flatbread but well-prepared. It was nice to be in a quieter section of the boardwalk while still enjoying the great views. Tried Skal Pizza with a group recently and had a really solid experience overall, with a few standout items. We ordered the regular cheese pizza, a butternut squash and sage pizza, a kale Caesar salad, and a pepperoni pizza with added sausage and mushrooms. My favorite was actually the pepperoni with added sausage and mushrooms--it had great flavor, really savory and well balanced, and the toppings just worked really well together without feeling too heavy. The table next to us asked what we ordered and I think that this combo would be a great addition to the menu! I also really enjoyed the regular cheese pizza. It was simple, but in a fresh, homemade way. The kale Caesar salad was another highlight for me. It felt fresh and well dressed, and it was a nice contrast to all the pizza. This pizza spot in Lido Village is very cute. It's right on the water, overlooking the harbor. It's mostly patio seating, and if it gets cold, they have heaters. The menu is small, but when the food is good you don't need to overcomplicate things. Parking is difficult. There is a lot that the restaurant will validate for you, but it's only 90 minutes. The lot fills up fast, but they do have valet. Kale caesar: The parmesan crisp over the top was fun to crack into - literally. I thought it was really good, but honestly, it was more fun with the crisp that you have to crack on top to get to the salad beneath. Spicy chicken sausage: This was the highlight of the meal. It's a white sauce pizza with mildly spicy chicken sausage. If you can't handle spice, don't worry, it's not very spicy. The tomatoes (which there could be much more of) tampers down the spice. But it's very tasty. If I were to come back, I would definitely order this pizza again. read more

We tried this place on Mother's Day. They were on Resy and had availability last minute. We were sat down about 30 mins after our reservation but kinda understandable given Mother's Day although the hostess told us that they had a 90min limit. The servers weren't particularly happy except the Latina one. We had their spicy chorizo and pineapple pizza (4/5) peperoni with pineapple pizza (3/5) we also had the kale Caesar that came with a big dome of baked cheese. Looked great but was 3/5. Carrots were good and nicely presented (5/5), saffron miso pasta (2/5) flavorless for a dish with two spices in that name and ratatouille with side of chicken (2/5). Cute spot for pizza and drinks with a view of Newport Harbor! They've got both indoor and outdoor seating, so you can bring your dog. Outdoor seating has patio heaters as well. Most pizzas are in the $20-ish range but if you add meat to it like I did, it can hit closer to $30. It was a little pricier than I would've liked, but the artichoke pizza with prosciutto did taste really good and the view is nice, so I'd still recommend the spot. read more

It's probably not the best situated place in that complex of restaurants because it's on the far end next to a wall (compared to Malibu farm which is open on both sides). It was freezing outside so we requested an inside table. The place is tiny but they gave us their booth in the rear of the restaurant. It was roomy and we were very appreciative. To start, we got the kale caesar and the wedge salad along with the meatballs and fire-roasted zucchini - nothing disappointed! The big ole "bowl" of cheese on top of the kale salad was a crowd pleaser. For entrees, we ordered the pineapple and Spanish chorizo pizza, the tomato pizza with nduja added, the saffron and miso pasta with nduja added and the pepperoni pizza with spicy sausage added. The pizzas were all well made, reminiscent of Neapolitan style. The pasta was also super delicious. For dessert, we got the lemon tiramisu as well as the caramelized bananas. Both were good but the bananas were out of this world. Who knew the humble nanner can be elevated to heights such as this! Hubby definitely enjoyed it. Extremely mediocre pizza. Came here with high hopes after a bunch of my Yelp friends sang high praises about it but was left feeling meh about it. Waited forrrevvverrrrr for one pizza and one pasta to arrive, and it definitely got much less busy after we sat down at 2PM, so it wasn't an issue of the kitchen being backed up. The food was definitely not worth the wait. The Saffron miso pasta was very oily with not much taste to it, and the Pineapple & spicy chorizo pizza was quite "wet" (not sure if it was because of oil or from the pineapple juice). I'm not sure if today was understaffed but we ordered the cucumber ginger lemonade and was told, one glass would taste different because it was made the day before? It was an odd thing to say after we already noticed one was regular lemonade and didn't have the same coloring as the other glass. Loved the pepperoni and spicy chicken sausage pizza. We decided to try the artichoke one. It got a bit tiring but was unique and still worth trying, if you share it with a couple of people. The star of the show is definitely the saffron miso pasta. But, I absolutely love the bottles the lemonades come in, with the cute green and white straw. It is such a fun vibe! The last time at Skal I had the butternut squash and basil pizza and that was amazing! This time, I went with the charred wedge salad and I was surprised by how small it was. I'm thinking it was a 1/4 of a head of lettuce. It had a lot more dill than I'd prefer, but it was still very tasty! My friend got the kale cesar and I'd recommend that for sure - especially because of the crispy Parmesan topping! I finished the meal off with the coffee tiramisu and it was just ok for me. It was more like a parfait with layers of crème and sponge cake. I sadly didn't taste much espresso or coffee. Surprisingly awesome! I tend to be skeptical of restaurants in highly trafficked boujee areas since they can often be overpriced and mediocre in food quality. Not Skal! While in Lido on a busy Saturday, we stumbled upon this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The pizza, Cesar salad, heirloom carrot dish, and cocktails we ordered were all excellent. The salad in particular was a standout due to the crunchy parmesan shell over the top of the lettuce. Great food plus a relaxing location on the harbor! I'll be back. read more

My friend asked me to meet up at SKAL Pizza, and I'm glad I did , it turned out to be a lovely afternoon with delicious food and a fantastic view. We chose to sit outside, right by the water. The weather was perfect, and the fresh ocean breeze made the experience even more enjoyable. There were also some beautiful yachts nearby, adding to the relaxing coastal vibe. I ordered the Pineapple & Spanish Chorizo Pizza $23 to eat at the restaurant, and also got a Pepperoni Pizza $23 to go. Both pizzas were delicious , full of flavor and clearly made with quality ingredients. The crust was crispy, yet still had that nice chewy texture that makes a great pizza. The portions were a bit small for the price. Each pizza was just enough for one person, so $23 felt a little pricey. But considering the premium location in Newport Beach, the price makes sense Our server was very friendly and cheerful, which made the experience even better. Great food accompanied by less than great service here at Skal. Made a reservation for the dining room but our party of 4 was seated in the alleyway behind the restaurant. It was between 20-30 minutes before anybody came to take drink/food orders from us as well as offer to turn on the heater while we were sitting there quite cold until then. After taking drink orders our server informed us that we had been given the wrong menu (and looking at it for the past 30 minutes) and she would be getting us a "much smaller" menu. Prices on the new menu were about $3 more expensive per item as well. Not a great look here. Our food was brought before we were given silverware or napkins and had to wait on those as well. 10/10 to the kitchen because the food was delicious. We liked the unique pineapple pizza and miso pasta had a great sauce. Pepperoni pizza was good but more of your classic on that one and nothing special or different. Ah! Wow what a find! Other than the horrible parking that is the Peninsula :( This place is such a gem. Stunning view right on the dock/water next door to amazing places you could stay here for hours. Ordered the Arugula and Seasonal Fruit Salad- pears were the fruit and wow did we devour this salad. Perfectly naturally sweet and light. The avocado pizza was delicious, not too heavy but all perfectly filling. The jalapeño ricotta was so delicious. We randomly picked a restaurant for a late lunch / early dinner while in the area and picked Skal based on Yelp reviews and their location on the water. The Chicken Sausage pizza was a white pizza base and was also very flavorful. Great crust and wood-fired pizza char taste. Pasta - We tried the Saffron Miso pasta. Opted to not add any proteins because we were already splitting 2 pizzas, too. It looked so good in the Yelp photos we had to order a dish to try. Tasted like butter noodles kicked up a notch. Drinks - We opted for their Raspberry Orange lemonade, which was flavored with house-made syrups. It was really good and not overly sweet. So good, we had them add a 2nd drink to our order - the Passionfruit lemonade. Parking - we opted for parking on one of the side streets. 2 Hour parking was $5, a lot cheaper than we were expecting. There is a structure nearby but it was full. The restaurant validates 1 hour for the parking structure. If we lived nearby, we would definitely be coming back as regulars! Title: We watched your kitchen wipe sauce off a pizza with a rag and re-serve it to us Today at approximately 2:00 PM, I placed a takeout order in person at Skal Pizza in Lido Marina Village. Our order was straightforward: * Pineapple & Spanish chorizo pizza -- with hot honey on the side only, as my husband cannot eat honey * Kiss cheese pizza -- very light red sauce * Cucumber mint lemonade -- which I specifically asked if it was fresh. The host didn't know, asked a waitress, and the waitress confidently guaranteed it was made fresh to order. We were quoted 20-25 minutes. After 30 minutes, we had to remind staff about our order. The restaurant was not busy. When the lemonade was handed to me, it was not filled to the top. I asked about it and was told, "that's whatever is in the can." This directly contradicted what your waitress had promised. Then came the pizzas. The cheese pizza was flooded with sauce, bubbling and spilling over the crust -- the exact opposite of light sauce. The chorizo pizza was covered in hot honey, despite my very clear instruction to have the hot honey on the side only. I politely handed the pizzas back and said: "I specified light sauce and no hot honey on the pizza. Could you please remake these?" The waitress responded with immediate hostility, aggressively snatching the pizzas out of my hands. When I calmly asked how long it would take, she responded with attitude: "It'll take as long as it takes." My husband waited by the entrance while I stepped away. From where he stood, he had a direct, unobstructed view of the bar area. What happened next was shocking. Instead of remaking the pizza, the staff took the same cheese pizza and used a rag to wipe away the excess sauce. They literally wiped the pizza. They did not make a new one. They did not discard it. They wiped it and put it back in the box. The chorizo pizza was also never remade. They simply added another container of hot honey on the side and returned the same pizza. A staff member then came out and rudely shoved the same boxes back into my husband's arms. We were told it was "fixed," but we had just watched the kitchen wipe the pizza with a rag instead of remaking it. This was not only dishonest, it was disturbing. We trusted your staff to correct a simple mistake, and instead, they chose to cut corners in full view of the customer. Between: * Being misled about the lemonade * Receiving incorrect food * Being treated with open hostility * And watching staff wipe sauce off a pizza and re-serve it instead of remaking it This experience was unacceptable. The pizza was great, but the real highlight for me was the perfectly roasted carrots paired with two unexpected ingredients; hot honey and dill yogurt dip. I would come back just for those carrots any day.The meatballs, however, were a bit disappointing. I wish they had a more authentic Swedish flavor, especially given the restaurant's name. I'm also a fan of budino, but Skål's version was unpleasant and tasted overwhelmingly like orange marmalade. My favorites were the Spinach and Pesto pasta and the Spicy Chicken Sausage pizza. The latter had a slight cumin flavor and was very flavorful. But everything was good. We also had the Pepperoni pizza, Butternut Squash pizza, Saffron Miso pasta, and Arugula Salad. Surprisingly, I didn't like the salad initially, but we had leftovers, and when I ate it the next day, it was delicious. It's what I had hoped it would taste like the first day.
