This place has apparently been around for a long time but never heard of it. Came here on a whim from Irvine and it did not disappoint. The vibe and atmosphere was awesome. Small little restaurant with a few private areas to rent out for an event if you'd like. Service was great. The food was incredible. We had the shrimp and mushrooms as an appetizer which were both delicious. I had the blackened ahi for my main course which was to die for. Perfect flavor. Celebrated my beautiful wife's birthday here. It was perfect. Service was outstanding!! The food was amazing Appetizers included the meatballs bruschetta and garlic cheese bread. Highly recommend all three Misty recommended the blackened fish. She was t wrong. Great experience at SoL on a nice Sunday night. We had a reservation and arrived a bit early. They sat us near the entry door and soon was served with chips and salsa which is compelementary. I ordered the Vulcan chicken that was as spicy as advertised and finished every bit of the chicken and the delicious habanero sauce. Highly recommended if you like spicy food. My wife had their salmon salad. She was t super crazy about her food but we enjoyed the overall atmosphere and the great service. read more

I went tonight with my family and had the Lobster ravioli, Newport linguine, Sols bruschetta, and grandma Jill's meatloaf. The food was spectacular, and Misty was an amazing host who convinced us to try the butter cake for dessert; it was heavenly. The house sangria pitcher was also very refreshing. I didn't get pictures of everything though. I ordered the blackened ahi, which I felt was quite salty. It did come with sauce but I felt like it was just ok. The vegetables also had no flavor, I get they may be steamed but it needs some flavor to it. The pineapple salsa that it came with was probably the best on the plate, a little spicy but I like spicy. The clams and mussels were good. I also loved the rock shrimp, very flavorful! My husband said the bruschetta tasted great. Someone in our party ordered the blackened salmon and they loved it. Another person also ordered the rack of lamb which he loved as well. Next time I think I'll have to try something different as I was not too happy with the blackened ahi. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience at Sol Grill overall; the atmosphere and company were great. However, my personal food experience wasn't as enjoyable. I didn't have much of an appetite, so I decided to order just an appetizer: the Spicy Kung Fu Shrimp with rice. Unfortunately, the dish was overwhelmingly spicy; not just in heat, but with an overpowering flavor that didn't sit well with me. I only managed to eat two shrimp before my stomach started reacting. Others at the table tried it as well, and no one could quite figure out the flavor, it wasn't just spicy, but had something else that made it hard to enjoy. Wow I was so happy with the restaurant. The ambiance is so cute & romantic, loved the lighting & the vibe. The service was incredible, all of our servers were amazing and so personable. Lastly, the food was delicious, we got the ahi tuna for starters & then the sol salmon with pasta which was flavorful & filling as well as the filet which was delicious. I love the ambiance of this place and it feels homey. It seems like a lot of locals come here and are known by the staff. I didn't feel the attention that I saw others getting but I understand. I had the salmon and was told it was spicey. I can handle spice and the issue I had with this dish it was spicey just to be spicey. It was missing flavor. Maybe tone down the spice so it is shuttle and add some flavor. The mushrooms were good but needed salt. Loved the bread and our server was friendly. Definitely give the place a try read more

This cute cozy place offers the comfort of "home". It feels like the building was once a small cottage that got converted to a restaurant. It's a little claustrophobic and extremely hot inside. It seems there's no central air and that all the heat is coming from the kitchen, cooking. We came on a Saturday night and there was plenty of parking which is so rare for Newport. The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. Our server was a very bright and pleasant young lady, we adored her (forgot her name). She was kind enough to give each of us separate checks (went with a meetup group). They gave us the booth in the back, which was a private room (between the 2 single use bathrooms) and we enjoyed the privacy and never felt forgotten. Luckily there was doors to the outside that were left open so we got an occasional cool breeze to combat the hotness. The food was good, it was comfort food, everyone enjoyed their meals but it wasn't anything special. It was like going to moms house and having good food with loved ones. Though I want to support small businesses and I would definitely recommend this place to friends, I don't think I could return simply because the temperature was really just too hot for me. read more
